Naruto Uzumaki sat on the edge of his bed in full wakefulness. It was currently three in the morning and the blonde shinobi had no desire or ability to sleep any. His mind raced with dark thoughts, mainly about Sasuke and how far the Uchiha had fallen into that same darkness. What had happened to him, how could Sasuke even consider destroying his home?
Not only that, but the clear disregard shown by Sasuke toward him put Naruto at an unease that he couldn’t explain. It was no surprise to either one of them how they felt about each other. It had been blatantly obvious to both individuals even before Sasuke had betrayed the village. The two just never had the courage to admit those feelings and Naruto felt that if he had just taken the initiative, he could have prevented all of this from happening. Maybe it just never was meant to be.
With a sigh, the blue eyed jinchuriki lay down, hoping sleep would come to him easily. He wouldn’t hold his breath though, even if he did fall asleep his dreams would be plagued with the one he had lost.

Sasuke Uchiha looked up at the dark sky just outside of his current Akatsuki hide-out. He had to admit it was much better out there than inside, Madara was really pushing his last nerve with his demands and Holier-than-thou attitude. Sasuke knew his path and didn’t need anyone telling him how to go about it.
Although being away from others was nice, it did tend to make him think a bit more. Thinking for the most part was dangerous territory for the youngest Uchiha. He tended to think of things he’d rather have soon forgotten. The blonde idiot for instance was a constant in his mind at the moment. Why now? Why did those feelings have to surface again; wasn’t he over it already?
His body didn’t think so as thoughts of the fun-loving blonde shinobi stirred awake Sasuke’s still developing hormones. Usually the raven was able to keep those at bay but tonight was different, something seemed different about tonight. He couldn’t tell what it was but it was pulling at him, almost as if someone was calling to him…
Without a second thought Sasuke stood and disappeared from sight reappearing instantly in Naruto’s bedroom. He must be losing it, why was this pull so strong? The blonde wasn’t even awake, how could he be doing this to him?

Naruto’s immediately roused from sleep, having felt something utterly dark and dangerous by his side. He turned with half fear and half hope in his heart and he almost cried out at the image of the one he had been dreaming about standing right by his bedside. “S-Sasuke…?”
Sasuke merely said nothing and began to walk toward the shaking blonde and slowly sat on the edge of the bed. He couldn’t control his actions, Naruto must have been doing something to him because the next thing he knew he was pressing the other boy into the bed, and his lips were devouring the other’s.
Sasuke wasn’t frenzied about it, he was slow and careful, he wanted; no he needed to give Naruto as much pleasure as he could, to somehow show the blonde how he felt. There was no chance of him ever saying the words out loud, action s would have to suffice.

He shook his head after another fleeting moment of thought and quickly got dressed before heading toward the door, slipping out as quickly and quietly as he had come.

Naruto’s eyes snapped open just as the door clicked closed and he bolted out of bed, wincing at his sore body as he did so. Flinging the door open he ran down the hall half glad that Sasuke was nice enough to put some pants on him. Even so, he would have run outside naked if he had too.
He ran out of the apartment building and down the street a ways. Where did he go? He had just heard the door shut as he woke. He couldn’t have gotten that far…
Naruto felt tears prickle at the back of his eyes and he sank to his knees, letting them fall without shame. It was the most horrid and empty feeling… to be left by the one you couldn’t live without, it tore his very soul apart.

Closing the door behind him he sank to the floor and let the tears come again, this time he let all the anguish out, mourning the loss of his best friend. He knew Sasuke would never come back again…

He knew what a huge mistake it had been to go to Naruto, how stupid he was for thinking nothing would change inside him. Something changed alright, his feelings for the blonde grew that much more. The physical connection ensuring the bond between them would never be broken…
The raven hated that, the fact that even at a distance Naruto still had control over him. But at the same time, he knew how deeply he cared about him. But no more, it would never happen again. His goals were too important to him to let anything deter him from them, even Naruto couldn’t pull him away from the darkness completely.
His heart ached at the decision he was making, the need to see Naruto would come again; Sasuke would just have to avoid it. He could imagine how lonely Naruto will be without him but it was inevitable. Sasuke knew it when he left the village and it was still true. They may have a unique and powerful bond, but they can never be what each other wants.
His footsteps carried him further and further away from the one he knew deep down he truly loved. He saw the hide-out just ahead and dreaded going back, but knew that he must.
“I love you too…” he whispered just loud enough for himself to hear, knowing that those words would never be spoken again in that lifetime.
Soul Mates can’t always be lovers…
