And It's You

I wrote this a few days ago and was debating whether or not to post it here. I decided what the hell and did it anyway. This is the first time I've written NaruShika so please enjoy and feel free to comment.

Shikamaru sighed as Kiba, Akamaru, Chouji, and Lee left after the little rumble they had with the new kid Sora and Naruto. He was partially upset with Naruto because he let that kid Sora get to him. But he was mostly upset with Kiba, who had let the kid from the fire temple rile him up.

Shikamaru sighed again as he looked at Naruto. The blond still had a lot of energy he could tell, and there a few options as to how to diffuse that energy, the lazy genius ran through them before settling on one. “Naruto, since it’s been awhile since I’ve seen you, why don’t we catch up over ramen.”

Naruto seemed to brighten up at the mention of his favorite food. “Sure Shika! But we have to bring to him along. I’m supposed to watch him.” Naruto jerked his finger over his shoulder pointing at Sora.

“Fine, but I’m not paying for him. And you only get one bowl of ramen. I’m not wasting a whole paycheck on your appetite.” Shikamaru said as he started to walk towards Ichiraku.

Naruto looked back to Sora and motioned for the monk in training to follow. Naruto then ran to catch up to Shikamaru. He put his hands behind his head and laced his fingers together. “So…what have you been up to lately Shikamaru?”

“Not much Naruto. Just the missions I’m assigned.” Shikamaru wanted to tell Naruto that he knew about Akatsuki and the nine-tailed demon, but now wasn’t the time since Sora had tagged along. Maybe he could invite Naruto over to his new place later, when someone else was watching the kid. That might be a good plan.

“Ah, you still watch the clouds?” Naruto asked. Since he had come back from training with Jiraiya he was busy with missions as well and didn’t have a chance to talk with Shikamaru or any other of his friends. It was nice to actually be told he’d be staying in the village for at least a few days to a week.

“When I have time, what about you…still chasing that dream of yours?” Shikamaru asked as they passed through the entrance to Ichiraku. Sora was behind, being strangely quiet.

“Yeah I am. But the bastard is just damn stubborn. I won’t be heading out again until all this with the Guardian Twelve is finished. Sometimes I think I should just let Sakura beat the shit out of him with her monster strength.” Naruto replied.

The three of them sat down with Naruto in the middle, Shikamaru on the left, and Sora on the right. Naruto didn’t even glance at the menu when he ordered his miso ramen. Shikamaru glanced over it for a moment before ordering a pork ramen. Sora just stared at the menu like it was going to attack him. He decided to order the same thing as the blond.

“There might not be anything left if she did that. I hate to tell you to give up on him, but you got to have patience and yes I know the three years is about up. But you do have one thing going for you, Itachi is not dead yet. I don’t see Uchiha giving up his body until that goal is met.” Shikamaru patted Naruto on the shoulder.

“Yeah I know. But he’s my best friend. I want him back here in Konoha. I want to see him revive the clan with Sakura.” Naruto nodded his thanks as a bowl of ramen was placed in front of him. Shikamaru and Sora followed his example and then broke their chopsticks, murmuring “let’s eat” before they dug into their food.

Naruto didn’t shove the ramen down his throat. It was a surprise to Shikamaru. Normally the blond would just inhale it without chewing sometimes. “So Naruto, where’s Sora staying tonight?”

Naruto paused as he brought the ramen to his lips. He hadn’t thought of that, but there was no way the pompous ass was staying with him. “I have no idea yet. I’ll have to go ask the hag I guess.”

“I’m not staying with someone like you. I’d rather stay with Yamato. He seems like the only sane one out of all of you.” Sora stated.

“Whatever. You wanna tag along Shikamaru?” Naruto turned to look at his friend.

“Yeah, I want you to come see the new place. We can head there after you’re done with Lady Hokage.” Shikamaru answered.

Naruto grinned and turned his attention back to his beloved ramen. Shikamaru glared at Sora over Naruto’s head. The lazy genius didn’t like the boy, he had already upset Naruto. He would keep an eye on him, just for Naruto.

Naruto glanced around the living of Shikamaru’s apartment. There was a small T.V. under the window and a green couch placed in front of it. There was also a bookshelf that held many books and scrolls. Naruto quickly scoured it for any signs of the Icha Icha series. He was satisfied when he didn’t find it. The kitchen was separated from the living room by a half wall that gave way to a counter on the side and a way to get into the kitchen.

It was more spacious and nicer than Naruto’s own. He wanted to ask Shikamaru about rent. This was a nice apartment. “Hey Shika, does this apartment have a balcony?”

Shikamaru came out of the bathroom. “Yeah, it’s attached to my bedroom. You want to see?”

“Yeah. How’s the rent on this place?” Naruto asked as he followed Shikamaru down the hall.

“It’s not bad. It’d be better if I had a roommate. It’s still a little too steep for my pocket, but I like the view it gives me of the clouds.” Naruto wanted to laugh at Shikamaru’s answer.

“That’s too bad. I want to move out of my apartment. It’s getting too crowded in there. How many rooms do you have?”

“Two. I’m using the extra room to store weapons, supplies, stuff like that.” Shikamaru opened the door to his bedroom and led Naruto over to the glass doors. He opened the door and stepped out onto the balcony.

It was a nice balcony. It had wrought iron closing it in so no one wouldn’t fall over. It was also spacious and long. Naruto wanted to put a chair out here and just stare over
the village. Shikamaru was now leaning on the railing and gazing into the sky. Naruto just stared at Shikamaru, watching the setting colors of the sun play over his body. He just stood there and watched and then he made his move.

Naruto moved up behind Shikamaru and placed his arms around the others waist. He then placed his head on Shikamaru’s shoulder and gazed at the clouds that were changing colors with the sunset. He breathed in the scent of Shikamaru. The smell of bar-be-queue and spice hit his nose. He then nuzzled Shikamaru’s neck.

“Naruto, what you are doing?” Shikamaru asked, smiling.

Naruto just grinned, knowing that the other could feel him doing so. Naruto then turned his face back toward the sunset. “Just watchin’ the sunset with my favorite person.”

Shikamaru didn’t say anything and returned his gaze toward the sunset as well. He could feel Naruto rubbing his stomach softly in a comforting gesture. It was something that Shikamaru felt he could get used to. He had no problems with Naruto showing him affection, heck he had been looking forward to it ever since the blond returned. Naruto was precious to him and he hoped that it was the same with the blond.

“Hey Shikamaru, since I’m going to be here for at least a week think we can spend some time together? I miss you.” Naruto admitted, tracing patterns on Shikamaru’s stomach.

“Why don’t you just move in? I know that’s what you want. It’s so unlike you to hint at something; normally you just demand what you want.” Shikamaru turned in Naruto’s arms and looked at him.

Naruto gave him a large grin. “Yeah I know. But I wanted to see what it was like to hint at something. I want to see if it worked.” There was a mischievous glint in the blue eyes.

“You’re gonna hint around to people to buy you ramen aren’t you?” The brunette accused.

Naruto did have the decency to look sheepish. “Yeah but please don’t tell anyone. I want to see if it works.”

“Fine Naruto but you owe me.” Shikamaru answered.

Naruto smiled, leaned in and kissed Shikamaru. He let his tongue traced the seam of the other’s lips before nipping them. Naruto then pulled back, the smile back in place. “You make me happy Shika. I know that even if I don’t bring Sasuke, you’ll still be here waiting for me and it’s you that keeps bringing me back.”

Shikamaru smiled back at Naruto. “I knew that idiot. That’s why I won’t take longer missions. Move in with me, that way I won’t have to search half the village for your ass when you return.”

Naruto laughed. “That’s just like you. I’ll move in so we won’t waste anymore time. But you will help me pack and move. I’m sure we can get the others to help too. We have the next few days to get it done. Right now, I just want to be with you.”

Shikamaru pulled away and grabbed Naruto’s hand, leading him back in the room, all thoughts of the conversation he wanted to have with the blond gone. He pushed Naruto onto the bed and closed the doors, pulling the blinds down as well. He didn’t want any perverts to peek in.

He turned around and Naruto was staring at him with those bright blue eyes of his. The brunette climbed onto the bed and kissed Naruto, letting the blond take control of the kiss. Naruto nipped at his lips until Shikamaru opened them and let him plunder his mouth. It was heaven to Shikamaru that he had Naruto right here with him. He had been feeling jealous of the youngest Uchiha for taking all of Naruto’s attention away from him after they had been assigned to genin teams. But he had this reassurance that Naruto would always return to him no matter what, even if the Uchiha was brought back to Konoha. He didn’t need the words ‘I love you’ spoken to him. He already knew that Naruto loved him because it really didn’t take a genius to figure that out.
