A Chibi Story

The Hokage stared in abject horror at what lay before her. Turning to Neji, she growled with a slammed fist. “EXPLAIN!”

A single brow rose. He was completely unworried about the fury being focused toward him. “Why, they’re children.”

“Very funny Hyuuga. I’m a medic nin and a woman, I can SEE that they are children. Why do I have a mess of chibi ninja in my office?” Tsunade felt a headache coming on. Narrowing in on a quiet blinking little blond, she pointed. “This is your fault isn’t it? What did you DO Naruto?” That kid knew more ways to get into and cause trouble than anyone she knew and that included Kakashi and Jiraiya. She blinked in shock, noticing the masked face and shock of silver hair… Kakashi was a chibi too? Oh, she was so fucked. Where was Iruka? Crap he was a child too.

A scowling, angry looking little raven haired child stepped in front of the innocent looking blond. “Don’t yell at my Dobe.” He crossed his arms, glaring at her. Her brow ticked as she recognized the Uchiha. That kid was still skating on thin ice with her.

“He’s not YOUR Dobe.” The sudden snap of a child’s voice came from the center of the group where the young Nara had seemingly blended into the group of eight chibi’s. They all turned to look at him and the thin tanned fingers wrapped in Naruto’s over sized shirt and pulled the blond to his side, glaring at the now shaking Uchiha.

Grabbing Naruto’s hand, Sasuke gave a vicious jerk making the blond stumble toward him. “Let go.”

“No.” The deep brown gaze narrowed and he pulled Naruto back toward him.

Hinata quickly extracted herself from the group of other children, tugging at Neji’s pants and holding her chubby arms up to him. Sweeping his cousin up into the safety of his arms, he sighed. She had been such a painfully shy child. This could get very ugly. The rest of the children watched the two dark haired boys arguing as they pulled the blond boy back and forth between them, heads turning left then right and back again as if watching some bizarre human tennis match. Kakashi and Iruka were blinking in shock while Kiba and Sakura watched with mouths hanging open. Finally Tsunade stood up and snatched Naruto up and away from the two boys before they could pull his little arms out of socket. “What is the matter with you two!? Naruto is not a toy!”

Grinning suddenly, arms tightened around Tsunade’s neck. “BAA-chan!” Her heart caught in her throat, caught between throwing the blond ball of child into a wall and hugging back.

“Do any of you remember anything?” She looked over at the group. They all knew their names and that something was wrong. There were fragments of memories of being grown up. Of people and places and of course there was Sasuke and Shikamaru’s assertion of ownership over Naruto. She was probably going to have to separate them. Shikamaru, Sakura, Kiba and Hinata still had families who would take care of them but Kakashi, Iruka, Sasuke and especially Naruto would need safe places to be kept. As of this moment, four of their most prized and powerful ninja were useless and in a great deal of danger. The other four were not much better off.

Shikamaru volunteered his home to keep Naruto safe while Sasuke stepped closer to Tsunade’s chair insisting that he went wherever his Dobe went. “Stop calling me Dobe, Teme!” The blond shouted before the two were smiling happily at one another. Looking over, the blond sighed, “We gotta be fair with S’ske, Maru.”

Crossing his arms, the Nara’s chin pushed out turning mulish. “I don’t wanna. Uchiha cheats.” Shaking her head, Tsunade wondered how long this little rivalry had been going on.”

“I’ll stay with Shikamaru!” Kakashi raised his hand quickly, smiling almost shyly at the ponytailed boy.

“Hn.” Sasuke nodded. “You take Kaka. I’ll keep my Dobe.” Shikamaru just blinked in complete shock at the silver haired boy.

Seeing Iruka shrinking back sadly, Naruto hopped down rushing to hug the other boy. “I stay with Ruka-niisan.” He insisted, smiling as Iruka’s arms came up to hug Naruto and he gave a firm nod. Tsunade groaned. This was going to be much more difficult. The boys’ behavior was all wrong, as if they were all unfiltered teen agers in bodies too small for the feelings they were feeling.
