Affairs in Tutelage
Affairs in Tutelage
Brief Description of this series: Rather than a story, this is merely going to be a series of one-shots I will be writing that just happen to be in the same timeline. They will not be written in chronological order, so they do not need to be read in order. I will try my best to make it so that each chapter can be read independently of the rest, but I will also attempt to have an underlying plotline for those of you who do read them all. Since this is not a story, I feel no need to work toward a specific ending point, which means that this may be discontinued, with or without notice, at any time. The chapters that I do write will mainly consist of YOUR requests, suggestions, etc, so make sure you tell me what you'd like to see happen with this series! More details can be found here: http://spiralmonster.deviantart.com/journal/43370836/ I HIGHLY suggest you read it.

-:- Time pass or scene change Experimentation Every day in sixth period, the class period right after lunch, Naruto Uzumaki took his afternoon nap. Normally, the teacher didn't bother him. Almost every teacher in the school had heard of Naruto Uzumaki and his aptitudes for disrupting the class and neglecting homework. Really, the class as a whole was better off with Naruto asleep. But today, about halfway through the class, a messenger from the administration office came into the room and handed a yellow dismissal slip to the teacher. The teacher read over the note as the messenger exited the room. He checked the time on his computer screen, then looked out at his class to see that the student the slip was for was fast asleep in the back row of desks. "Naruto," the teacher called in a raised voice. Every eye in the room turned toward the blond, but he didn't budge. The teacher called out his name a second time, also to no avail. The girl sitting next to Naruto reached over to tap him on the shoulder, but the teacher stopped her. "I have a better idea," he announced to the class as a whole, then opened a drawer on his desk and pulled out a whistle. A few students started to giggle quietly as they caught on to their sensei's idea, and all eyes watched in awe as the teacher quietly crept to the back of the room, bent down with the whistle between his lips, and blew as hard as he could, right into Naruto's ear. The blond jolted awake immediately, jerking upwards and almost falling out of his seat. The entire classroom erupted in laughter, and a few students in the next room over could be heard laughing as well. Naruto looked confusedly around the room a few times before his eyes settled on his teacher, whistle still between his lips. Naruto smiled sheepishly, one hand reaching around to scratch the back of his head in a nervous gesture. "Hey, sensei," he said shakily. "What are you doing all the way at the back of the room?" "Trying to deliver a note from the office to you," the teacher replied in an unamused tone. He set the yellow slip on Naruto's desk and made his way back to the front of the classroom and immediately resumed his lecture. Naruto looked down at the note in slight bewilderment, only somewhat caused by his rude awakening. It was barely three weeks into the school year. He hadn't done anything wrong yet and there were no grades in the computer. Why on earth did he have a dismissal slip sitting on his desk, telling him that he was supposed to report to the office of the Dean of Academics immediately? You only got summoned to see the Dean of Academics if you were in danger of failing the year at the beginning of the last quarter of the school year. "Naruto," his teacher's voice cut through his confusion and the blond looked up to the front of the room. "I believe that slip had the 'Immediately' box checked." "Oh," Naruto replied, standing hurriedly. "Uh, right. Sorry sensei." He shoved all of his supplies haphazardly into his backpack, threw it over his shoulder, and exited the classroom quickly. Out in the hall, he resumed his train of thought as he slowly made his way toward the administration building. He was certain that he didn't have any grades yet for any of his classes because the teachers hardly gave out any work at all in the first month or so of the year. The only thing he had been doing so far was review work from the previous year, which was ungraded. The blond tried to think of anything he had done wrong so far in this school year. Sure, he talked a lot, and yeah, he sometimes fell asleep in class, but that didn't warrant a trip to the Dean's office. And even if it did, he would be going to see the Dean of Discipline, not academics. 'Well,' Naruto thought to himself as he neared the office, 'I guess I'll find out what's going on soon enough.' -:- "What do you mean the school is assigning me a tutor?!" Naruto shouted, jumping from his seat. He couldn't believe his ears. "The school year just started! There aren't any grades in the computers yet! I haven't even had a chance to slack off!" Rather than shouting back, or even showing the slightest sign of annoyance, the dean merely sighed in what sounded like defeat. "Look, Naruto, this is for your own good. We're giving you the tutor before you have a chance to slack off because we know you will slack off if left to your own devices." The blond crossed his arms over his chest defensively. "Oh yeah?" he asked. "And how do you know I'll slack off? You're not even going to give me the benefit of the doubt?" "No, we're not," the Dean replied. "And do you know why, Naruto? Because you've just barely scraped by with enough credits to be promoted to the next grade level every single year. This is your last year of high school. If you don't buckle down and take it seriously, you're not going to graduate. The school board isn't going to let you just barely hit the minimum credit and GPA requirements for graduation, and even if you did get away with that, it would look terrible on your transcripts. The school is providing you with its best student tutor, free of charge, so that you can excel in your senior year rather than drifting down to the bottom of the barrel." Naruto bit the inside of his cheek as the Dean spoke. "Well, when you put it like that, I kinda feel like crap for being angry about it." He laughed nervously and uncrossed his arms to scratch the back of his head. After a few seconds, though, he paused and once again took a defensive tone. "But still, how do you know I can't buckle down by myself? Why do I need a tutor?" The dean chuckled, then stood from his seat and walked around to the front of his desk. He patted Naruto on the shoulder and said, "Just accept the help where you can get it. Your first session with your tutor will be this afternoon. You're to meet him in the school library directly after seventh period. He has already been informed so he'll know that you're coming." Before Naruto had a chance to ask who his tutor was, the bell signaling the end of the sixth period rang. "You'd better get to class," the dean said with a smile. "And don't forget to wait for your tutor in the library after school!" "Alright!" Naruto called back, already halfway out the door. He could tell the Dean wasn't planning on writing him a late pass to seventh period, and he only had five minutes to get to the other side of campus. Thankfully, Naruto's last class of the day was Art. The teacher was young and she didn't really care what her students did as long as they got their work turned in. If the Dean hadn't told Naruto that he had to meet his tutor in the school library at the end of the day, he probably would have just left school after leaving the Dean's office. His Art teacher more than likely would have marked him present without even checking to see if he was really there, just because she had seen him at lunch. But unfortunately, Naruto couldn't skip last period today. He just had to stick it out. The blond doodled lazily all throughout seventh period, mind still mulling over who his tutor might be. He bounced back and forth between desperately trying to figure it all out in his mind and telling himself he didn't care who his tutor was, as long as it was another senior. 'It would be humiliating to be tutored by an underclassman,' he thought morosely, then checked the clock on the classroom wall for about the hundredth time that class period. Thankfully, there were only ten minutes left until the dismissal bell rang. He started packing up his things and putting supplies back early, only to find himself standing by the door with five minutes still left until the bell rang. Naruto glared impatiently out the small window in the door until the teacher asked him to sit back down until the bell rang. Naruto sulked back to his table, muttering about how the whole class stood by the door at the end of the period every day and she only ever yelled at him. When he got back to the table he sunk into his chair, backpack still on, and crossed his arms over his chest with a pout on his face. Naruto felt a tap on his shoulder and jumped slightly, turning around to see it was only Hinata Hyuuga. "W-what's wrong, Naruto-kun?" She asked quietly, concern apparent on her face. "You seem anxious, and you h-haven't said a word all period." Naruto sighed, uncrossing his arms and sitting up in his seat. He always felt so guilty around Hinata, to the point that he almost hated talking to her nowadays. They'd gone out for so long, she trusted him with every personal detail of her life, and he still couldn't confide in her his only real secret. She laid a comforting hand on his upper arm and he shook the thought from his mind. "Oh, it's nothing Hinata," he said, putting on his best fake smile. "It's just that.." he paused, sneaking a peak at the three other students who sat at his table. They all seemed to be immersed in conversations of their own, but just to be careful he leaned toward Hinata and whispered, "I'm essentially on academic probation this whole year. The school took the liberty of assigning me a tutor!" "I d-didn't know high schools could do things like that," she whispered back, also glancing at the other students at the table. "Who's going to be your t-tutor?" "I don't know yet," Naruto replied, leaning back and letting his voice return to a normal volume. "I have to meet him in the library right after this class." "Do you want me to c-come with you?" Hinata asked, sensing that Naruto was dreading the big reveal. "No thank you, Hinata-chan," Naruto said with a true smile. "It's my fault I have to have a tutor, I can battle the dragon by myself!" He struck a heroic pose and Hinata giggled. "Besides," he continued, "I don't want you to miss your bus." Before Hinata had a chance to respond the final bell rang and Naruto jumped in his seat again, not expecting the loud chiming that came over the loud speaker. The two of them stood with the rest of the class and pushed and shoved their way toward the door. "I'll see you l-later then, Naruto-kun," Hinata said pleasantly at the door, and gave him a hug. Naruto hugged back half-heartedly, and made a break for the library as soon as she let him go. Naruto walked around the library for a few minutes when he got there, searching for anyone who looked like they might be waiting for someone, but all he found were after school clubs and a few kids wasting time on the computers until their parents picked them up. Eventually he decided to sit in one of the arm chairs up by the entrance to the library and wait for someone who looked smart. For a good fifteen minutes nobody came into the library. Naruto wound up finding a random book to skim through while he waited and would perk up hopefully every time he heard the quiet ding! that meant someone had opened the library doors, but every time he looked up he would just see another person leaving. Finally it got to the point where he didn't even look up when he heard the doors open. The only thing that made him look up was when the bell went off and he heard the librarian say, "I'm sorry, Sasuke, but I was just about to make the announcement that the library is closing." Naruto froze when he heard that name. 'No,' he thought, looking up slowly. 'There's no way. After all the fights we've been in? There's no way the Dean would make him my tutor!' "Oh, it's okay. I'm just looking for..." Sasuke Uchiha rotated slowly and scanned the room as he spoke. His movements and speech both froze when his eyes landed on Naruto. A small smirk made its way onto the Uchiha's face. "I'm just looking for him." He smiled pleasantly at the librarian and she nodded her approval for him to enter the closing library. "No," Naruto uttered, still in slight shock, as Sasuke approached him. "No," he repeated, louder and firmer, when his mortal enemy stopped right in front of him. He shook his head back and forth, not wanting to accept what was now obvious. "There's no way you're my tutor." "And yet, I am." Sasuke's smirk returned full force. "No!" Naruto said yet again, standing and crossing his arms over his chest. "That doesn't make any sense!" "Of course it does," Sasuke replied. "You're the worst student in our grade. I'm the best. It's only natural that they'd pick me to tutor you." "But how many fights have you and I gotten in over the years?" Naruto asked. "How many times have we both been suspended from school because teachers had to pry us off of each other and drag us both to the infirmary? Why would the school think it's a good idea to force us to spend time together after all that?" "Maybe they'd like us to reconcile our differences," Sasuke suggested, shrugging. "I really don't know what they administrators had in mind and I won't pretend that I do, but I am your tutor for the rest of the year, whether you like it or not. You're stuck with me for the next nine months." Naruto felt all of the color drain from his face. He had always imagined that his senior year would be the best year of high school. Now it was going to be his worst. -:- By late September, about a month later, the two boys had gotten used to their unexpected and initially unpleasant situation. Their judgements of each other had always been superficial, the two had never really gotten to know each other. Sasuke thought Naruto was annoying and unintelligent, as most other students did. Naruto resented Sasuke for his god-given good looks and intelligence and the fact that he was born into a rich family and would never have to work a day in his life if he didn't want to. The fact that Sasuke treated Naruto like a lower species never really helped the matter. When the two boys started spending time together, however, they wound up getting along better than they thought possible. It didn't take long for them to realize that they enjoyed a lot of the same music, movies, and even a few television shows. In the beginning the only time the two saw each other was in the public library after school, three days a week. As they started actually talking more and found out about all their shared interests, they started hanging out after their study sessions were over, and occasionally even on days when they weren't scheduled to meet. One Friday afternoon Naruto asked Sasuke if they could study at his apartment rather than the public library, because he was pet-sitting for a friend. "Kiba told me that his dog knows exactly when he gets home from school every day, and if he doesn't get home on time his dog will freak out and sometimes breaks things," he explained. "Sure, no problem," Sasuke replied as the two of them left campus for the day. Rather than leading the way to the library like he usually did, Sasuke instead allowed Naruto to lead the way to his apartment. It was a long walk, and Sasuke wondered at the back of his mind why Naruto walked to school every day when it was such a long way. He almost certainly lived in the 'more-than-two-miles' range that allowed for bus transport. They talked a little on the way there, but mostly Sasuke just followed and watched where they were going. At long last they came to an apartment complex, at which point Naruto turned toward his follower and smiled sheepishly. "Don't judge me too much based on where I live, okay?" he asked. "I'll try to restrain myself," Sasuke smirked, trying to put the blond at ease. Naruto chuckled, but still looked a little bit anxious. The two were quiet as they weaved through the maze of apartments in search of Naruto's home. When they finally stopped in front of a door and Naruto pulled out his keys, they heard a chorus of loud barks coming from inside the apartment. "Hopefully we're not late." Naruto said it as a joke, but his nervous laugh told Sasuke that he was genuinely worried that they might walk into a mess of broken lamps and shredded upholstery. Thankfully, when the blond opened the door, he found his living room just as he had left it that morning. He only got a few seconds to look around, however, before an enormous mass of white fur jumped on top of him. Naruto yelped as he fell backward and Sasuke heard a loud knock as his head hit the pavement outside the apartment. "That's okay, Akamaru," Naruto said in a sarcastic tone, pushing the dog's licking snout away from his face. "It's not like these floors are concrete or anything." "This is Akamaru?" Sasuke asked in surprise, kneeling down to help Naruto push the massive dog away. "As in the same Akamaru that Kiba brought in to Show and Tell in third grade?" "Yep," Naruto replied, finally freeing himself and sitting up. "This is the tiny puppy that used to ride around on Kiba's head." Sasuke held out his hand for Naruto to grab, and the two boys pulled each other up. The dog was more impressive standing up than it was stooped over while licking Naruto. His back came up to the boys' hips, and his head hit about mid-torso. Sasuke gave a low whistle, impressed. "If he could stand on his back legs he'd probably be taller than either of us." Naruto nodded. "Get back now, Akamaru," he said, ushering the beast back into his apartment. They followed the dog in and he shut the door behind him. "Do you want something to eat or drink?" he asked, turning to Sasuke. Before Sasuke had the chance to respond, Akamaru gave a loud bark. Naruto turned back toward the dog and said, "Well, I wasn't talking to you, but I guess I'll get you something to eat too." Sasuke chuckled as Naruto rolled his eyes. "Sure, I'll have something," Sasuke said. "What do you have?" "Uhh..." Naruto turned slowly and looked toward what Sasuke assumed was the kitchen, then quickly turned back to face the Uchiha. "Ramen. And probably peanut butter and jelly." "I guess I'll have peanut butter and jelly, if you have it," Sasuke replied. He looked around the living room for a few moments before asking, "Where can I put my stuff?" "Oh, yeah." Naruto, already halfway to the kitchen, stopped and turned back to Sasuke. "My bedroom's right over here." He changed direction and led Sasuke through a door off to the right of the entryway. Sasuke was actually a little surprised at how clean Naruto's bedroom was, especially compared to how cluttered and disorganized his backpack and school folders were. Naruto dropped his backpack on his bed, told Sasuke to make himself at home, then rushed off to the kitchen and a waiting Akamaru. Sasuke set his backpack on the floor and sat on the bed, looking around the room. It was a pretty empty room, overall. A small twin-size bed with a night stand next to it against one wall, a short dresser against the opposite wall with a medium-sized television sitting atop it, a desk holding an old computer against the wall with the bedroom door, and another door that Sasuke assumed led to the closet on the last wall, with a clothes hamper next to it. Despite the lack of furniture, the room still had a lot of Naruto's personality in it. The sheets on the unmade bed were a deep green and the comforter was bright orange. Posters of all of Naruto's favorite bands, video games, and movies littered all of the walls and the clothes hamper was orange with red spirals in a random pattern. 'This is definitely Naruto's room,' Sasuke thought, smirking. For a while he sat on the bed listening to the sounds of Naruto talking to Akamaru as he made their sandwiches. Occasionally Akamaru would reply with a bark, and Naruto would keep talking as if the dog had actually contributed something to the conversation. Sasuke chuckled, then went back to looking around the room. It didn't take long for his eyes to settle on the night stand. 'It seems kind of odd to have a night stand right next to your bed with nothing on it,' Sasuke thought. There wasn't even an alarm clock there. Curiously, Sasuke scooted over on the bed, closer to the night stand, and pulled open the top drawer. What he found didn't really surprise him at all: a stack of Playboy magazines. 'Of course that's what the unnecessary night stand is for,' he thought. 'It's for hiding porn.' He reached into the drawer and pulled out the first magazine at the top of the stack. When he saw what the next magazine in the stack was, his eyes widened. The second one was a Playgirl. Sasuke smirked, put the Playboy back, and instead grabbed the Playgirl. He had just started flipping through the pictures of naked and half-naked men when he heard, "What the hell do you think you're doing?!" Sasuke looked up calmly at an enraged Naruto. He glanced at the open drawer, then back down at the magazine in his hands. He tilted the magazine back so that Naruto could see the cover. Instantly, all of the color drained from the blond's face, as did all of his anger. "I didn't know you were into this sort of thing, Uzumaki," Sasuke stated simply, then set the magazine back down in his lap and continued flipping through it. "I'm not!" Naruto insisted. He stammered for a few moments, looking for the right words to say to fix the situation he was in, until he stopped and realized exactly what was going on. Sasuke Uchiha, the boy 90% of their school's girls were absolutely in love with, was sitting on his bed reading a Playgirl magazine. Sasuke looked up, cocking an eyebrow at Naruto's silence. "Do I look like I'm going to tell anyone?" Sasuke asked, then patted the bed next to him. Naruto shrugged, set their sandwiches on his desk, and sat down next to Sasuke on the bed. "I don't think I am, anyway..." Naruto muttered, looking down at his lap. Sasuke closed the magazine and put it back in the night stand drawer, and pushed the drawer closed. "Have you ever experimented with a guy before?" Sasuke asked, trying to tread lightly. Naruto shook his head. "No, the only person I've ever done anything with was Hinata." He paused, kicking his feet back and forth in front of him. "And it was nice, I mean, I won't tell you exactly what we did or anything, but I just think, it could have been better." Naruto rambled, as he sometimes did in awkward situations. Sasuke merely nodded quietly as the blond spoke. "I never told Hinata about liking guys," he whispered after a few moments of silence. "I've never told anyone before." "Well, if you're still not sure," Sasuke said, "maybe you shouldn't tell her. I'd suggest experimenting with another male before you 'come out' to anyone. Just to make sure you actually are attracted to other guys." Naruto nodded. "That's what I was thinking, too. The only thing is..." He trailed off and looked at Sasuke awkwardly. When the Uchiha raised an eyebrow, Naruto looked away and continued. "The only thing is, I don't know anyone else who'd be willing to... do stuff like that with me." Sasuke felt his face flush lightly as he replied, "I would." Naruto's eyes widened as he looked over at his new friend. Sasuke had always been a little bit attracted to Naruto, although he would never admit it to anyone other than himself. Now that he had his chance to make something happen between himself and Naruto, he definitely wasn't going to let it pass him by. "Really?" Naruto breathed. "You would do that for me?" Sasuke nodded. "I know what it's like to go through something like this. I'm here for you if you ever want or need me." Naruto smiled, swallowed thickly, then leaned in and pressed his lips against Sasuke's. -:- A/N: This was mainly written as an introduction to the series, so it was written a lot more quickly than I usually write things. I think I put enough effort into it for it to stand on its own though. c: I'm debating whether I want to have Naruto and Hinata dating, and Naruto going behind her back with Sasuke, or have them already be broken up because he felt guilty about being attracted to men. What do you guys think about this? Give me your opinions in reviews! And remember, this series will primarily be made up of your suggestions and requests, so give me your suggestions and requests! If you don't want to leave a review you can always feel free to contact me through my deviantART page, spiralmonster.deviantart.com, or email me at spiralmonster@yahoo.com. See you next time! ^^
