How to Love a Mother

This is dedicated to all my readers who are mothers.

~~

The room was quiet as little heads bent over desks, small hands scribbling and coloring on the paper they were provided with. A small child in the back was busy making the best card he could, even though he didn’t have a mother to give it too. He didn’t cry at the thought anymore, not like he did when he was younger.

Naruto Uzumaki was an orphan, the only one in his class. All the other children had parents and enjoyed making their cards. Well, everyone except Sasuke Uchiha. The other eight year old had declared that his mother was mean and that she wasn’t getting a card this year.

Naruto had glared at his fellow classmate throughout the whole day after the comment. Mothers were meant to be cherished, not treated like garbage. He had tried to tell Sasuke that, but the other child had pushed him into a water puddle and laughed in his face.

Naruto had stayed away from him since the incident. He didn’t feel like receiving a lecture from the orphanage head again for getting into a fight, so he had let the other get away with it. Blue eyes gazed up from the card and took in the fact that Sasuke wasn’t even drawing, his head was on the desk and it seemed as though he was napping.

Anger welled up in Naruto at the sight, how many times had he been hit on the head with a ruler because he fell asleep? Catching the teacher’s sharp gaze on him, Naruto went back to his card. It was a mix of colors, but the most prominent was orange. He liked to be original, so he had stayed away from the pinks and reds that the other children were using.

He finished up his last flower and admired his work. It wasn’t bad, better than what he knew some of his classmates could do. But the thought that he didn’t have a mother to fawn over it, broke his heart. This card would be thrown into the trash after the Mother’s Day lunch and he hated that all his hard work was for nothing.

He set the card back down and smoothed it over as the teacher announced that it was time for lunch. The other children eagerly colored in any spaces that needed it before the teacher opened the door and let them out.

Naruto hid his card under his shirt, maybe he could find Sasuke’s mother and hand her the card since her son was such a brat and ungrateful that he had a mother. He shuffled out of the classroom, the teacher’s eyes on him as he left.

When Naruto made it to the cafeteria, he let out a sigh of relief. He had made it with no problems and the card was still safe under his shirt. All the tables were filled with mothers and their children, all having a good time.

It was easy to spot Sasuke and his mother, the eight year old was sitting apart from his mother, his arms crossed as he wouldn’t look at her. Naruto thought that she was the most beautiful mother he had ever seen, including the ones at the orphanage that visited time from time.

He gathered his courage and approached mother and son, the card clutched in his little hand. He smiled brightly, it was hard to frown in the presence of such a pretty mom. Naruto shyly held the card out to the woman, blushing as she took it.

“I made it, but I don’t have a mom to give it to,” Naruto said lowly. “Mom’s are precious and I wish I had one as pretty as you.”

He didn’t expect to be pulled into a hug, the woman gushing about how cute he was. Naruto could see Sasuke’s scowling face over her shoulder. Apparently, the other child didn’t quite approve of the development and Naruto couldn’t help the smug look that passed over his face.

Mrs. Uchiha let him go and rested her hands on his shoulders. “My, what a cute little boy you are! Who wouldn’t want you?”

“A lot of people, ma’am,” Naruto answered sadly, glancing at the floor. His left foot scuffed the back of his right one.

“That’s absurd! What’s your name?” She asked sweetly with a small smile. Naruto couldn’t help but wonder just how in the world this nice lady had a son like Sasuke.

“Naruto Uzumaki.”

“Uzumaki?” She asked, surprised. Naruto couldn’t understand it as the woman scooped him up once again and examined him closely. “I can’t believe I haven’t seen it before! You’re Minato and Kushina’s son! I have to call Fugaku!”

She carried Naruto with her as though he was a precious object. He had never been held like this in his short life and he couldn’t help but bask in it. Naruto didn’t know how long this would last, but he would enjoy it while he could.

They entered the principal’s office and Mrs. Uchiha demanded to use the phone. She quickly dialed her husband's number, Naruto firmly held in her grip. The woman ignored the looks that people were giving as the phone rang and she smiled as Fugaku’s voice filled her ears.

“What has Sasuke done now?” He asked, the sound of shuffling papers reaching over the phone.

“It’s not Sasuke, love.” Mikoto answered cheerily.

“Then why did you call me?”

Mikoto rolled her eyes and made a grouchy face at Naruto. “I found Minato’s son.”

The sound of papers hitting the desk hard roared in Mikoto’s ear, but she didn’t push the receiver from her ear. “Say what?”

“I found him! Naruto has been under our nose all this time! Can you have him in our custody by the end of the day?”

“Who do you think you married?” Fugaku asked with slight amusement to his tone. “He’ll be ours by the time school lets out.”

“Lovely, I’ll see you at home.” She hung the phone, not needing to say the three words that other couples did on a daily basis.

“You’re coming home with us, Naruto.” Mikoto smiled sweetly as she hugged the bewildered child.

The rest of the day passed quickly with Naruto being coddled by Mikoto and Sasuke glaring at him. He was waiting for the ball to drop and that this was some sort of sick joke. But Naruto enjoyed the attention while it lasted.

When the last bell of the day rang, Naruto grabbed his bag and went to head to the bus that would take him home. But he was stopped by Sasuke’s mother, he looked up to her, blue eyes blinking in surprise.

“Didn’t I say you’re coming home with us?” Mikoto said sweetly as she steered Naruto away from his path and led him to the part of the parking lot where parents picked their children up. A SUV was waiting for them and Naruto watched as Sasuke climbed up into it, batting his mother away as she tried to help him.

Naruto was smaller than Sauske and knew he wouldn’t be able to climb up into the big vehicle by himself, so he shyly tugged on Mikoto’s skirt. The smile that lit her face was amazing and he couldn’t believe that Sasuke was so ungrateful.

When Naruto made it in, he realized that Sasuke had an older brother. The older boy was the most beautiful person he had ever seen and Naruto’s cheeks lit up. He shyly stayed on his side of the car while the older boy tried to engage him in conversation.

Naruto knew that Sasuke didn’t like that he had the attention of his brother, but he ignored him. The attention that Itachi was giving Naruto was positive and the small child couldn’t help but smile shyly as he talked with the older boy.

--25 years later--

Naruto smiled as he watched the two people he had considered his parents renew their vows. It was their fiftieth anniversary and they celebrated it in true Uchiha fashion. He had hung back at the end of the decorated chairs, not wanting to be seen just yet.

He hadn’t told anyone that he was going to be here, not even his lovers. He had been on assignment in Spain and didn’t want to get hopes up that he could attend. Naruto had been photographing a very important event and didn’t know if he’d be done in time to make it to the ceremony.

As it stood, he was only about twenty minutes late, and it was easy for him to sneak in unnoticed. He smiled as he watched Sasuke twitch in his suit, it was no secret that he hated them. It made Naruto wonder just how Mikoto had talked Sasuke into wearing it.

Itachi was standing still as if he were a statue and Naruto couldn’t help but roll his eyes with a smile on his face. As if sensing he were being watched, Itachi turned his head slightly and caught sight of his supposedly absent lover.

Naruto brought a finger to his lips and smiled as Itachi narrowed his eyes in what he hoped was acceptance. He didn’t want to ruin the surprise for Mikoto, knowing that she was the one who hated that he was supposedly not able to attend her ceremony.

The ceremony was over in a few minutes and the couple walked down the aisle, Mikoto’s hand resting on Fugaku’s arms. As they neared the end, Mikoto’s face lit up even more as she spotted whom she considered her youngest son. She let go of Fugaku’s arm and rushed to the tall blond, burying herself in the strong arms.

“You said you weren’t able to make it today!” She accused as she pulled back, Fugaku standing behind her.

“I wanted to surprise you,” Naruto answered, his deep tone filled with adoration for his mother.

“Well, come on then,” Mikoto said as she pulled away, but kept her right arm locked with Naruto’s. She held her other arm out for Fugaku and together they left the ceremony area and headed for the reception.

It wasn’t long before Itachi had caught up with Naruto and pulled him to a private area, both brothers giving him looks that demanded an answer for his presence. Smiling, Naruto pecked them both on the cheek before opening his mouth.

“I didn’t want to get my hopes up in case I wasn’t able to make it,” he said before he was squished between two bodies, Sasuke at his back and Itachi at his front. He relaxed in the arms and rested his head against Itachi’s shoulder, sighing contently.

“Don’t take another assignment like that again, moron.” Sasuke mumbled irritably.

Naruto chuckled at Sasuke’s tone. It had taken the younger brother years to warm up to Naruto. Their younger days had been spent with fist fights and sabotaging one another. Sasuke had accused Naruto of stealing his family and was doing his best to get the other boy kicked out of the family.

It wasn’t until Itachi had locked them in a room when they were fifteen that Naruto had discovered that Sasuke was jealous of him. After hours of yelling and fighting, they had come to an understanding and that day forward a friendship had began.

“And what would you have me do?” Naruto asked as he pulled his head from Itachi’s shoulder and rested it on Sasuke’s.

“Stay here, there are plenty of stories for you to cover. You don’t have to go so far away.” Sasuke said before attaching his mouth to Naruto’s neck and sucking.

Naruto tried to answer his bastard of a lover back, but Itachi had dropped to his knees and deftly undone his zipper, pulling his cock out. A low moan left his lips as Itachi used his hand to bring his dick to full attention, the strokes were smooth and barely there, just the way Naruto liked them.

“Mmm, how long do you think we should tease him, Itachi?” Sasuke asked as he took his mouth away from Naruto’s neck watching with lidded eyes as his brother licked the erection.

“Naruto has been gone for a week, I’d say a few hours should suffice,” Itachi answered, pulling away and reaching for his pocket, pulling out an orange cockring and slipping it over Naruto’s erection.

“What, you just didn’t do that!” Naruto protested rather loudly as Sasuke’s hand slammed over his mouth.

“Be quiet, moron! This is your punishment every time you decide to take a job out of the country.” Sasuke hissed into the other’s ear. “You’re ours and this is how things will be done. You knew that from the beginning.”

Sasuke had been right, ever since they started this relationship he had known the rules. Naruto belonged exclusively to the Uchiha’s brothers and no one else. They were very possessive of him, not that he minded. But sometimes Naruto forgot what his absences did to them and how much they needed him.

“You’re right, I am yours, I’ll see what I can do about my assignments.” He was giving in without a fight and was curious as to how they would react. Normally he fought them when he picked his assignments, but he just didn’t have it in him anymore.

“You’re starting to see things our way,” Itachi murmured as he stood and pressed himself against Naruto’s body as he adjusted the other’s cock and zipped the pants. “You are to get through this reception without seeking relief. If you do, you’ll be rewarded tonight.”

Naruto’s reply was drowned out by harsh knocking on the door. The three men froze as they realized just who that was, turning to the door their suspicions were confirmed as a familiar voice drifted through the door.

“I have no idea what you three are doing in there, no wait, I do. You better behave and come out this instant!” Mikoto didn’t sound amused at all. “Naruto better be in one piece!”

Groaning, they disentangled their bodies and Naruto gave each one of his brothers a kiss before the door was opened and Mikoto’s smiling face was revealed. She immediately inspected each of her sons and decided that too untoward had happened in the closet.

She grabbed Naruto’s arm and led him away from Itachi and Sasuke, knowing that this would irritate her normally calm sons. Mikoto told Naruto that were a few people she would like him to meet as he stared over his shoulder and gave the brothers a ‘help me’ look. They only shook their heads and Naruto narrowed his eyes, already plotting his revenge on them.
