Authors Note: I like the idea of Kakashi and Shikamaru together, and thought I’d go with the feelings from there. This may be crack to some of you, but it is what it is. I have only read the manga, and check it every week, so beware... there may be spoilers. I hope you

Kakashi’s
arm stretched out over his bent knee, relaxed until the ticklish prairie grass
took a swipe at him. Irritated, he pulled his arm backwards, efficiently class=GramE>itching the obnoxious spot and then starting a new page in
his Icha Icha book. His eye was drooped, just enough
to hide any apparent emotions. A tangle of wind came up to ruffle his hair and
pick up an edge of the fresh page he was now trying to read. Even with a new
novel at his disposal, he could not shake the feeling that it somehow felt a little
too hushed on this hillside. Their hillside. He knew
in a few months, this feeling would fade. “The
quicker, the better,”
he thought, wrestling with the new page and urging it
to stay flat. As flat as his eyes, and as flat as his
demeanor had been for the past few weeks.
It seemed that the same ol’
Kakashi was back.

As
the grass went back to tickling his wrist a little more than his liking, he
quickly plucked a piece to play as a bookmark and disappeared in an instant.
Kakashi hadn’t noticed the pair of eyes that watched him. It was very unlike
him to be so oblivious. And in that instant, the man who watched him knew that
he had much more on his mind than his novel. He knew that Kakashi was thinking
of him, in their place.

Once he felt
assured that Kakashi was completely gone, he defiantly stuck up his chin a
little bit before shoving his hands into his pants pockets. He stepped out onto
the road, and then started down the hill. He stopped, several feet from where a
Kakashi sized butt print had woven itself into the grass. He saw it out of the
corner of his eye, but snorted and tilted his chin farther upward. He kept his
eyes up as he sauntered down the hill a little farther. Lower on the horizon
than he’d usually like, but he sat; eyes to the sky, arms behind his head. And
he let his body melt into the Earth.
