Over the Edge and Through the Wall:
Chapter One- Fear and Longing Teenage Assassin Style
The scars should have made him ugly, but they didn’t. They just made him sexier in a completely subtle way. They didn’t completely mar his face and the rugged handsomeness they accented was still exposed. The lines and angles of his features would never have been described as elegant, but rather they were tough and masculine and they perfectly complimented the rest of the man. Here was a man who had obviously been through hell and been tough enough to walk away, and he wore the proof proudly on his body like medals of honor.
And that was a whole other subject altogether. Ibiki had a body built for sex and Sasuke desperately wanted to become more acquainted with it. Even under the bulky jacket, the dark haired teen could tell that every part of the man was finely sculpted and well muscled. The man carried himself with confidence and power, and he exuded authority. Sasuke couldn’t help but respond to that authority. The deepest, darkest, most confused part of his psyche that was looking to be mastered, as well as the alpha male in him, recognized that here, finally, was someone worthy of his submission.
Sasuke had to focus on breathing steadily as the voice washed over him. That voice, the voice on the phone every time he had a mission or needed to report in, settled over him and calmed him. Suddenly it didn’t seem so hard to keep himself in check like it normally was. He’d fantasized about this voice before; in fact it was always the voice his mind supplied for his faceless master in his dreams. The voice held inflections and intonations that suggested that Ibiki was everything Sasuke had been looking for, tough and authoritative, and aware of it, but never abused that authority and so was trustworthy.
The voice continued on, but Sasuke wasn’t really listening. He was too busy trying to recover from the shock of having everything he wanted dropped in his lap. He was convinced that things between him and the older man would be perfect, now he just had to find a way to convince Ibiki to give him what he needed. His mind was spinning and churning, analyzing the situation and trying out possible solutions in his head when one word from Ibiki’s mouth cut through his lust-induced haze.
Ibiki could tell Sasuke wasn’t listening, and he couldn’t figure out why. Since he’d known the younger boy, he’d always been the most focused of his operatives. Well, known wasn’t really the right way to describe their situation. He was simply Sasuke’s boss. Kakashi had recruited the young man which meant he had trained him without any involvement from Ibiki, and then after that, it was only phone calls and faxed reports that had connected him to Sasuke. But he felt like he knew the younger assassin well, he certainly knew enough about him, and the only member of their squad that he had more direct contact with was Kakashi.
So it was this knowledge of the boy that made Ibiki confident that he knew how to snap Sasuke’s attention back to the matter at hand, even though they’d never met face to face. Out of his mouth came the one word guaranteed to have all of Sasuke’s energy focused on him, “Orochimaru.” There was no explanation offered and it caused Sasuke’s dark hair and his impossibly dark eyes to both snap up and focus intently on Ibiki.
Despite all the years since they had been separated, the name still paralyzed him with fear. He’d missed the rest of what Ibiki had said about his former guardian and so it was with a weak and pitiful voice that he whispered “W-what?” He hated this guttural instinctual reaction to even just the man’s name, but he couldn’t help it. His mind automatically reverted back to the frightened and confused five year old boy he’d been when he’d gone with Orochimaru.
Ibiki wished he knew what was going on behind those dark eyes. The voice he’d just heard was not the confident, brash and oftentimes arrogant one he was used to. He’d known that Sasuke’s past with the man had been bad, and he’d pried out the pertinent details when he’d been brought on as an assassin, in fact he’d just reread the report stating all of them before this meeting. But not even his superior skills at interrogation had been able to pry everything form the child all those years ago. Now Ibiki wondered what part of that past had Sasuke looking like a frightened animal.
Taking care to keep his voice the same as before, and not to soften it which he was sure would only insult Sasuke’s ability to handle himself when the young man though back on this meeting, he continued with the briefing now that he had the teen’s full attention. “We’ve known ever since you came to us that Orochimaru wouldn’t let you go that easily. Since that time we’ve cast a wide net of feelers looking to intercept any information about his whereabouts. Recently we’ve received information that leads us to believe he might know where you are. The logical conclusion is that he would be coming after you then. We haven’t been able to get anything else information wise. We need to come up with some sort of plan in the event that he finds you.”
Ibiki hated that it had come to this, but there was no other way around it. Kakashi had insisted that they not tell Sasuke about Orochimaru’s whereabouts for all these years, something about the boy had raised all of Kakashi’s protective shields, and he’d put himself between Sasuke and all knowledge about his former guardian. But now Kakashi had to step aside and Sasuke had to become aware of all that they were protecting him from for his own safety. Ibiki was not looking forward to dealing with either assassin, Kakashi was almost frantic with concern (well frantic for Kakashi anyway) and Sasuke looked like he was about to pass out at the news.
Sasuke tried several times to come up with some sort of response to Ibiki’s words, but nothing happened. His usually active brain had scattered thoughts to all corners and they were now under lockdown. It was a protective measure he’d taught himself while under Orochimaru’s care, but it didn’t work so well now, because he’d only taught himself to control thoughts; feelings, which he’d never had back then, were never dealt with. So consequently, he was currently sitting in a chair in Ibiki’s office watching the man wait for a reaction and he was frozen with fear and despair.
But as he continued to stare at the handsome face he’d just earlier been admiring, a new emotion surfaced in his brain. The ever present anger he normally felt resurfaced. Who was Orochimaru to ruin his life? Why did he let a man he hadn’t seen in nine years taint an encounter in which he’d felt hope for the first time since his parent’s deaths? How could the man still touch him with his icy presence even through miles of separation? As he sat there and thought, panic receded and the anger swirled and blossomed, growing deeper and bleeding into hatred.
“Plan, you want a plan? Fine, I’ll hunt the nut job down and kill the stupid fucker.” Sasuke spat out in a voice seething with hatred. He was on the verge of losing control and now that he’d voiced the deeply buried secret desire of his heart, fantasies of a very different sort than usual flooded his mind. Images of Orochimaru’s death at his hands flickered like a movie projector through his brain and a wicked smirk formed on his perfect lips.
Ibiki watched the change come over the boy and was fascinated beyond what he considered to be healthy. He couldn’t understand why Sasuke’s anger and his devilish expression had caused the beginnings of an erection, and he didn’t want to explore the possibilities and find out. He was still on shaky ground within his own mind after his meeting with Gaara a month and a half ago, and he was not about to relinquish control of his mind and body long enough to feel arousal for the nineteen year old in his office. He’d been down that road before, and it always dead-ended with disaster.
Sasuke’s blood was pumping, and his system began to flood with adrenaline. As he watched Ibiki’s subtly graceful movements and simultaneously planned Orochimaru’s death, he couldn’t decide whether he wanted to fight or fuck more right now. Both seemed like they would be immensely satisfying right now. He could feel his walls slipping, could fell his carefully maintained control evaporating and he welcomed the release with open arms. He couldn’t be sure what he’d do if he lost control right now, but he knew the results would not be good in the long run. It was Ibiki’s voice that stopped the breakdown in its tracks and allowed Sasuke to reinforce the cracks in his composure.
“Ok, we’ll kill him, but I mean we. I’ll be accompanying you on this mission.” Ibiki ordered, sighing mentally when he saw the gleam of madness fade from Sasuke’s eyes. He wasn’t sure exactly what had been on the teen’s mind, but whatever it was, it was sure to be counterproductive to their objective. “And we can’t do it now either.”
“And just why the fuck not?” Sasuke snarled. Ibiki might be in charge around here, but Sasuke would be damned if he let him play around with his life. Sasuke wanted Ibiki to play with him, but he wanted it to be in a bedroom with whips and chains, not in his head with his feelings and fear, and the man was treading dangerously close to that territory.
Ibiki didn’t flinch when the brunt of the teen’s anger came on him full force. He’d known that the reaction was coming; in fact he was counting on it. If Sasuke was inhumanly pissed at him, then he would be too busy to freak out over Orochimaru. “Because you have another mission, and before you even say it, the client requested you specifically, so I can’t send someone else.”
Sasuke growled in indignation. Some stupid fuck that he’d already killed for had deemed that it wasn’t enough, and was now asking that he put his own goddamned life on hold and do it again. Oh sure, it was no big deal, he’d just put his emotional breakdown and homicidal fantasies on the backburner because you caught yet another hot young pool boy fucking your wife and you want me to bury the body exactly where I buried the first one.
“Fine, but charge the asshole extra and tell him that it’s holiday pay.” Sasuke muttered.
“And what’s the holiday you’ll be working through?”
“Orochimaru Is Dead Day.”
A/N: God! Another short one, I didn’t even break 2,ooo words! I don’t know what the fuck is wrong with me! I promise it will get better though, set up is always a drag. I’ve fully outlined this story though, and I think you all will be pleased with the twists and turns on this wild thrill ride! Anyway, to my Gaara fetishist- sorry if you’re disappointed about the pairing in this story, but I promise I have something very special in mind for Gaara, so if you stick with me through this one, I promise to make it worth your wait. Also, I plan to post another chapter or two of this before I put up another oneshot introducing a new character, but I’m going to let you guys vote on who you want to see next. Your choices are Kakashi, Naruto or Zabuza.
