Secrets: Behold, the Full Moon
Chapter 1
Looking around, Gaara sighed. It was the beginning of another year and he didn’t think he’d be able to take it. Not only had his brother and sister become worse when he came to beating him, he also had to deal with a bunch of happy-go-lucky idiots again.
Gaara looked at his schedule. His homeroom teacher would be Mr. Iruka. When he reached the classroom he found he was the first one there. Of course, it was only seven-thirty and most people didn’t get here until around seven-forty-five.
Pulling out a book, Gaara began to read, not noticing when a bubbly blonde walked into the classroom a moment later. With a grin, the blonde made his way over to Gaara and peered over the top of the book.
“Watcha reading?” the blonde asked with a grin.
Gaara just ignored him, knowing that he, like everybody else, would just go away. But the exact opposite happen.
“Watcha reading?” the blonde repeated.
Gaara clenched his jaw and looked up from his book. He glared at the blonde who seemed unfazed. Why doesn’t the blonde just leave him alone? Why doesn’t he run off in fear like everybody else?
But then a rather delightful sent reached his extra sensitive nose. It smelled like… well, he didn’t know what the fuck it smelled like but it really turned him on. Maybe… no way! There was just no way… but his thoughts were interrupted by the annoying blonde boy.
“Watcha reading?” the blonde asked again.
With a sigh, Gaara put down his book. There was no way he would be able to read with the blonde there. Said blonde’s grin widened.
“I’m Naruto Uzumaki and I’m new. And you are?” the blonde asked; he was still grinning.
“Gaara Kazekage,” was all Gaara ever wanted to say to the blonde boy in front of him.
Taking that as permission to talk to Gaara, the blonde, Naruto, started to talk away about random subjects. Gaara took this time to study the blonde in front of him while ignoring whatever the boy said.
The boy’s hair was spiked and, you guessed it, blonde. He had beautiful azure eyes that seemed alight with happiness but a deep down sadness that made Gaara furrow his nonexistent eyebrows in thought. There were three whisker-like scars on each side of the boy’s face as well, a sign that somebody didn’t like him to much.
And just then somebody else arrived. This time it was a girl. Gaara studied her as well. She must also be new as he’d never seen her here either.
She had shoulder length straight blue-black hair with bright green highlights. She had an angular face and eyes just as black as her hair. She was pale and thin and had on tight black pants and a black and red Atreyu shirt on. Her ears were pierced four times on each and her left eyebrow and lip were pierced. She walked over and sat down two seats in front of Gaara.
She didn’t know what hit her when a rather energetic blonde suddenly appeared in front of her. That, of course, was the reason she flinched when the boy’s grinning face was inches from hers. Gaara furrowed his nonexistent eyebrows at this.
“I’m Naruto Uzumaki! I’m new. What’s your name,” the blonde babbled at the girl.
The emo looking girl scowled but said nothing. She sank into her chair and looked at the ceiling; probably praying that the annoyance would go away. But the blonde boy didn’t. He repeated his question about the girl’s name.
She scowled, but answered this time. “Tsuki Mayonaka(1). I’m new too.”
“Cool-“ was all Naruto could get out because other people were arriving. “Anyway, as I was saying before they came in, that’s cool. All three of us can hang out and stuff. Ooh, what are you drawing?” Naruto asked as Tsuki started to draw something in her journal in an attempt to ignore the babbling blonde.
Naruto sat in a desk in between Gaara and Tsuki. Peering over Tsuki’s shoulder, he watched as she drew a demon with horns and wings. It was covered in blood and had what appeared to be a human arm sticking out from the teeth showing in it’s evil grin. Though Naruto was somewhat disgusted by the drawing, he couldn’t help but stare at it.
“Wow. That’s amazing. What is it anyway? It’s so cool,” Naruto said in awe.
“It’s a demon. A favorite I like to draw,” Tsuki said, blushing slightly from the compliment.
Then Naruto turned back to Gaara. “Hey again.”
“Hey,” Gaara said quietly.
Damn, won’t this dobe just leave him alone? Why was he talking to him? Didn’t he realize he didn’t need some idiot around? Apparently not as he was still talking.
The blonde kept on talking, only getting the occasional grunt, shrug, or glare from Gaara. All of the other kids talked among themselves while the teacher, Mr. Iruka, let them. They ignored Gaara though a few made an attempt to talk to Naruto and Tsuki, though they learned that the latter was somebody to avoid, just like Gaara.
Luckily for Gaara the bell ran and he finally got to get away from the blonde dobe. Maybe now he would be able to get ignored. It’s not like Naruto would even want to be near him after he heard the rumors. Gaara sighed. Naruto Uzumaki was just another person that would leave him alone because of what he was. A demon.
Gaara snorted quietly as he made his way to his first period class. Of course he was a demon. There was no doubt about that. In fact, he really was a demon; a monster. It was one of his most precious and best kept secrets though.
On his way to class he could feel people’s eyes on him. He could hear the whispered insults and the not so whispered insults. The jeering and the taunting; he ignored it all. After so many years of it, he was well used to it.
But something surprised him. Naruto was following behind him, he probably had his next class with Gaara, and was scowling at people who insulted Gaara or pointed. To say the red head was shocked would be an understatement. Nobody had ever stood up for him. Hell, Naruto was even snapping at some people to make them shut up. Gaara’s lips twitched but he didn’t smile.
When in class Gaara sat in the farthest corner from the door with Naruto sitting in the desk beside him.
“Thank you,” Gaara whispered, almost inaudibly, but Naruto heard.
Naruto looked at the redhead beside him with his eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “For what?”
“For defending me in the hallway. Nobody’s ever done that,” Gaara whispered.
“Oh! That was nothing. I know what it’s like to be talked about. Nobody deserves anything like that, no matter what they’ve done,” Naruto said, his usual grin softened into a sad smile.
Gaara looked into the azure eyes of the blonde next to him. There was no pity at all in the depths of those blue eyes. There was only kindness and understanding, along with happiness but a deep down sadness. But that was nothing. If the boy knew the truth he’d stay away from him and he’d be alone again.
“What about somebody that’s killed?” Gaara said quietly.
Naruto looked shocked and didn’t talk to him the rest of the class period. Hell, he didn’t talk to him the rest of the day. And by then Gaara was sure he’d probably heard the rumors. There was no way the pretty blonde boy would want to talk to him ever again.
Gaara was writing in his notebook in eighth period. His thoughts always came back to Naruto Uzumaki. That was what probably prompted him to write the poem he was writing down.
He never leaves my thoughts,
They go ‘round and ‘round,
Never stop.
The image of his blonde hair
Brought up in spikes,
His azure eyes
Drive me wild.
He’s in my thoughts all the time,
I wish he was mine,
But I can’t have him,
What do I do?
Gaara stared at the words in shock before ripping out the paper, balling it up, and throwing it away. Why couldn’t that Uzumaki kid just leave him alone? With a sigh, Gaara sat down. Why did this all have to happen to him?
And then the last bell rang. Finally. Gaara gathered up his books and went to his locker. At his locker he met a smirking Ino and Sakura.
“Well, looky here. Looks like we got ourselves a freak. Don’t you agree Sakura?” Ino asked with a malicious smirk.
“I agree. And what do we do with freaks?” Sakura said, the same smirk planted on her face.
Oh shit, this wasn’t going to end well at all. But Gaara ignored them the best he could. He opened his locker and put all the books he didn’t need to take home into his locker, and took out books he needed. But Ino and Sakura just wouldn’t be ignored.
“Don’t ignore us you freak!” Ino screeched, her smirk gone.
Sakura slammed the locker shut as hard as she could with Gaara’s hand still in it. This caused a lot of pain for Gaara, as three of his fingers were now bleeding and he suspected one was fractured.
“Fuck you,” Gaara growled.
“No thanks,” Sakura said before leaving with her best friend, happy that she caused Gaara a lot of pain.
“Here, use these. I’m clumsy so I carry them around wherever I go,” Naruto said, handing Gaara a few band aids.
Naruto smiled sadly at Gaara but the redhead didn’t smile back or act grateful in the least. In fact, he felt a little embarrassed that the blonde witnessed what Sakura and Ino did to him. He just snatched the band aids from Naruto and put them on quickly.
“I’ll walk you home if you like,” Naruto said, his eyes looking at Gaara hopefully. “Keep away mad bitches, you know.”
Gaara almost smiled. Almost. Somebody actually wanted to protect him instead of hurt him. It was a good change. But what he couldn’t stand were the odd feelings he had. He wasn’t sure what they were and wished they would just go away.
“I’m fine,” Gaara said and left a disappointed Naruto standing there in the hallway.
Because of the little encounter with Sakura and Ino, he was late getting home. He was to be home by three-thirty or he would get punished and it was three thirty-five. Shit, shit, shit!
“And just where have you been?!” yelled Temari when he entered the house.
Gaara ignored her in favor of going upstairs to put away his school things. But she would have none of it. He was on the second step when she pulled him by the back of his shirt, causing him to fall to the hard ground below; his books landed on top of him, no doubt his math book would leave a bruise.
“Don’t you ignore me you dobe! Why were you late? You sure as hell don’t have any friends to hang out with. Nobody would want to hang out with you anyway, you demon!” Temari screamed before kicking his side.
It hurt, but Gaara didn’t answer. He knew it wouldn’t make any difference. She would just hit him for back talking or something. Either way, she was mad and he was going to get hurt.
When he got upstairs that night, Gaara was sporting bruises and cuts all over his abdomen. Not wanting to deal with anything right then, Gaara forced himself to sleep. And sleep he did. He got about three hours of dreams featuring a certain blonde kid.
A/N: And I’ve started yet another story! Why? I don’t have a fucking clue. I really just wanted to write something other then Harry Potter so here’s a Naruto one. And please excuse any misspelled Japanese words; I’m American and have no knowledge of the Japanese language. By the way, I want to make this story a bit different from the others like this so please feel free to make suggestions about what you want to happen.
Can any of ya’ll guess what Gaara is? And no, it’s not really a demon. Here’s a hint: look at the title of this story! And about those suggestions… please, please suggest something! I have no clue where I’m going with this and I need your help!
