A/N: Hello there. This is the tenth chapter of Reckless Hearts, continuing Sasuke's story. Recently I received two reviews-one from prettypurpletiger and one from Chynna18rawrr-that really made my day. Especially you, prettypurpletiger, because there were some very good points you brought up. I realize that I've left some holes in the plot, which will be filled either during Sasuke's story, or the epilogue. Please stay with me!

P.S. Looking for a beta! I posted in the forum about it, but so far I haven't had any replies! If you're interested, send me an email at Chibi_Reaper_Death_Chan@yahoo.com. I'll give you a test to see how good you are, and we'll go from there.

Anyway, drop me a review! I really want to know what your thoughts are up til this point in RH. :3

Reckless Hearts

Chapter Ten

Waking up the next morning, it really sank in that he'd slept with someone other than Karin. In the light of day, he was reduced to a lying, cheating asshole.

He could smell the sex on his clothes, like the scent had been absorbed into the very fibers. He was so fucking disgusted with himself.

Sasuke finally opened his eyes and looked around his small office, frowning at the shadows on the wall. It looked to be early morning, but he wasn't completely sure. One look at his cell phone on the table told him that it had died some time after he fell asleep.

Sitting next to his phone was a few aspirin, a bottle of water, and a note from Ino. He didn't bother to read it, but he imagined it was about her gloating and a warning that he'd catch a cold sleeping in the office like that.

He popped a few of the aspirin and took a sip of the water to wash them down.

When he put the water bottle back on the table, he caught site of the number on his hand. His mind went back to the feel of Naruto's fingers holding his as the other man wrote his number down. His hands were unusually small for a grown man's, but it hadn't really bothered him.

He was too out of it to notice at the time, anyway.

"I thought you and Karin-chan broke up." A voice said from the doorway, startling Sasuke out of his thoughts. He glared balefully at Ino as she stepped further into the room, gripping the keys to the front door in her hand. "She's called me six times all ready looking for you, Sasuke. What the hell were you thinking bringing that guy up here?" She admonished.

"Weren't you the one pushing me to do it? Didn't you say that no straight man 'pops a tent for another guy'?" He spat back at her. It was her fault he'd made such a big mistake. It she'd only kept her mouth shut-!

"Since when did you ever listen to me?!" Ino snapped angrily, folding her arms across her chest. She huffed and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, and Sasuke finally noticed the love bites on her neck.

Ino caught his eyes and blushed, moving quickly to cover the marks.

"Don't suddenly make this about me, Sasuke. If I had known you were still with Karin-chan, I wouldn't have suggested you hook up with that guy." The blonde woman pouted, her eyes falling over his disheveled appearance. Sasuke knew how he must look, but right now all he could think about was the phone number inked onto his hand.

Ino sighed again from her spot by the door and walked over to him. She placed a hand on her business partner's head and ruffled his all ready messy hair.

"You have a knack for making people's life more difficult then it should be. Karin-chan doesn't deserve this."

"Ino-"

"Do you even still love her?"

Sasuke snapped his head up at the question, not expecting Ino to be so blunt about it. He shouldn't have been surprised, though. She was the type of person to say what was on her mind, without a filter, at any time. She never held back and that was something Sasuke wished he could do, without over thinking or sounding like a complete asshole.

He couldn't make himself be that honest with another person.

"I guess it can't be helped now, huh?" Ino mumbled, flipping her ponytail over her shoulder. Sasuke snorted and finally stood up to smooth down the wrinkles in his clothes. "At any rate, you should get back to Karin-chan and explain the situation to her."

"Hn."

"Oi, don't 'hn' me. That's just your way of saying something's too troublesome. You're not Shikamaru, all right?" Ino pouted. She rolled her eyes and turned towards the door, throwing Sasuke a serious look. "You might want to hide the marks as well, if you don't tell her right away." She said sweetly, as she disappeared through the doorway towards the stairs.

Sasuke dropped back onto the couch and closed his eyes, silently wishing that he could just hit rewind on the DVD player of his life. There were so many things he wanted to undo, so that he wasn't in this situation now.

How could he explain the marks to Karin if she found them?

Sasuke stood back up and grabbed his phone, tucking it into his pants' pocket and turning to head down the stairs.

He promised Karin lunch and he still needed to get ready.

*~*

The apartment was all ready empty when he got there. Karin's boxes weren't littering his living room, and her clothes weren't draped over his furniture. It was almost like she never moved in, like he'd imagined the whole thing.

Except, she was fast asleep on the couch and the TV was still on.

Sasuke made his way into the bedroom and plugged his phone into the wall to charge. Next, he stripped out of his dirty clothes and threw them into the laundry basket.

After a quick shower and a clean pair of clothes, he sat down on his bed and dropped his head into his hands.

That guy had left more marks than he initially thought. He'd found four scratches on both of his arms, bruises on his shoulder blades, and a bruise on his neck where the idiot bit him.

There was no way he could hide the evidence from Karin, at least not for long.

Sasuke looked down at his hand, where Naruto's number was faded.

Without thinking, he grabbed his phone and quickly saved the man's number under his contacts.

As soon as he put the phone down, a pair of soft, thin arms wrapped around his neck.

"I missed you last night." Karin whispered against his ear, gently nibbling on his lobe. The action caused a shiver to go up his spine against his will, which the red head definitely felt from her position behind him.

She giggled and slid a hand over his belly, her fingernails scratching lightly against his shirt.

"We have enough time for a quickie before lunch." Karin smiled coyly, brushing her hand over his lap. She tilted his head to the side and kissed him softly on the mouth.

"Karin." He whispered, put off a little by her sudden aggressiveness.

Nevertheless, he let the woman pull him down onto the bed, let her climb on top of him.

She smiled again as she took off her glasses and set them down on he nightstand, like she always did before they had sex.

He let his mind wander briefly to what his father had told him and what the man expected of him.

"Sasuke." Karin breathed, her hair brushing over his cheek as she leaned forward.

He could feel the lust slowly building, but it was nowhere as intense as what he'd felt last night with Naruto. All he could think about were the small differences between Karin and him.

Her mouth wasn't as demanding and she wasn't as tight around him as the blonde had been.

Before last night, he'd never had anyone to compare to the woman on top of him. But after Naruto, he could tell.

Something didn't feel quite right.

*~*

Karin was humming as she set a turkey sandwich down in front of him, along with a glass of water and a small bag of his favorite chips.

He nodded his thanks and picked up the first half, eating with one hand while he read the morning paper with the other.

She sat across from him in a light pink bathrobe, with a bowl of grapes in front of her. She picked at them for a second before she popped one into her mouth.

Sasuke moved onto the other half of his sandwich and set the paper back on the table.

"Are you still going to see Kakashi-san today?" Karin asked, popping another grape into her mouth.

Sasuke simply nodded.

"I wish I could join you, but it's my shift at the hospital." The redhead sighed dejectedly, slowly eating another grape.

Sasuke finished the rest of his sandwich and washed it down with some water, forgoing his bag of chips for now.

"It's fine, Karin. You can come next time." He assured her, as he set his plate and cup in the sink.

The woman followed him and also put her empty bowl into the sink to be washed later.

"So will you be meeting his foster son finally?" She smiled wrapping her arms around his waist. Sasuke thought about her question for a moment.

Kakashi had mentioned the idea of fostering a child with his husband years ago. They hadn't spoken about it since, and he didn't know if the two men had gone through with it or not. That meant Karin knew something he didn't.

"I will find out when I get there." The Uchiha replied, bending down slightly to give his girlfriend a soft kiss.

Karin smiled into the kiss and squeezed his waist tightly.

"I don't want to go to work today." She pouted playfully, kissing him again. Sasuke touched a hand to the small of her back and rested his cheek against her forehead. "You make me so happy, Uchiha Sasuke." Karin giggled.

Sasuke stiffened for a brief second at her words, his mind automatically going over the other night's events. What the hell had he been thinking sleeping with that guy? There was more than just his family's dignity on the line.

"I need to get ready for work." She finally sighed, pulling away to smile up at him coyly.

She gripped his shirt and pulled him towards the bathroom, intent on getting him into the shower with her.

He didn't fight it.

*~*

It was one in the afternoon when Karin left for her shift at the hospital. The first thing Sasuke did was wash the dishes.

The second thing he did was go through the contacts on his phone, until Naruto's name was highlighted. He called the number and only waited a half a ring before someone actually answered.

"Hello?"

"Hey." Sasuke said, unsure of what to say. He didn't even have a specific reason for calling. He was just curious about how the man was feeling, if he was feeling any kind of discomfort.

"Oh, um, hey. I wasn't expecting your call. We only just met last night, and I assumed you wouldn't be calling."

Obviously this guy didn't feel the need to ask who he was.

"Hn. I just wanted to make sure you weren't too sore from last night. I know how that feels." Sasuke lied through his teeth, He couldn't even begin to understand what having a cock up your ass felt like, and he wasn't going to find out anytime soon.

"Thanks for the concern, but I have thicker skin than that. It's just a slight limp." The man on the other line sounded smug.

"That's good news, but that's not the only thing I called about. Can I see you tomorrow?"

Wait, what? He hadn't meant to say that!

"I'll let you know, okay? I'll call or text."

"Sounds good." Sasuke mumbled, shaking his head although Naruto couldn't see it.

"Mmmhmm."

"All right. See you, Naruto."

"Bye, Sasuke."

Sasuke hung up the phone and set it down onto the counter, surprised with himself. He didn't know what was wrong with him, making plans when he'd had no intention of ever seeing that man again.

He was startled a second later when his phone started to ring, flashing Hatake Kakashi on the ID screen.

Sasuke cleared his throat and answered it, wondering what the man wanted.

"Hatake." He greeted, trying his best to sound polite when calling someone by their last name without the honorific attached. "To what do I owe the pleasure of this out of the blue call?" Sasuke taunted.

"Hello to you, too, Uchiha." His old teacher greeted back. "I was just calling to make sure you were still coming over for dinner. Unfortunately, our son will not be joining us tonight."

"That is unfortunate. Some other time, then." Sasuke murmured, looking absently out the kitchen window.

"I'll see you tonight at dinner. Iruka will be happy to see you." Kakashi said in closing, clearly ending the conversation. They both said their goodbyes and Sasuke hung up.

He looked at the clock on his phone and sighed, wishing it was a little later. He was tired and his head was starting to hurt.

Sasuke moved back into his bedroom and set his alarm for five hours time, where he would be expected at Kakashi’s house.

He crawled onto his bed and got cozy under the covers, and quickly fell asleep.

*~*

Kakashi's residence was located two mile from his bar, down a street with a funny name. The house was relatively small, but it looked comfortable.

Sasuke stepped up onto the small porch and rang the doorbell. A man with a ponytail was the one who answered a minute later, flushed and smiling nervously.

"Sasuke-kun, welcome to our home." Iruka greeted him, stepping aside to let him into the house.

Sasuke slipped his shoes off and set them next to the pairs on the floor.

"Pardon the intrusion." He told the man, stopping to slip his feet into a pair of fuzzy orange slippers. They were hideous, but he supposed it could've been worse.

He followed Iruka into the front room, and then into the kitchen where Kakashi was all ready waiting at the table. He was a few minutes late, it seemed, because dinner was all ready done.

Sasuke took a seat at the table and prepared himself a plate of food, which included a few sushi rolls, shrimp fried rice, and some assorted vegetables.

It all smelled so good.

"You look well." Kakashi said conversationally, not even looking up from his own plate.

Sasuke tried not to let the man's bored tone make him angry like it used to back in high school.

"I see you still wear the long turtle necks and eye-patch." Sasuke muttered as he slipped a sushi roll into his mouth, smirking haughtily at the silver haired man.

Iruka smiled genially as he poured the three of them some warm tea, and Kakashi tilted his head to the side.

"It's good to see you again, Sasuke-kun. Your hair is longer." The man smiled, pulling down the neck of his sweater so he could drink his tea.

Sasuke nodded curtly and dropped another sushi into his mouth with his chopsticks.

"We were eager for you to meet our son, but he;s out for the night." Iruka said, finally sitting down to join them for dinner.

As they ate, Sasuke's eyes wandered around the small kitchen, taking in every detail.

There were magnets all over the refrigerator, holding up coupons for groceries or little notes to the rest of the house. There were dirty pots in the sink from dinner, and clean dishes in the rack on the counter.

It didn't look as if they owned a dishwasher.

"Ah, that reminds me! I ran into Karin-chan at the grocery store a week ago." Iruka burst out, blushing in embarrassment. He looked over at Kakashi and the man just started back stonily. "Well, she mentioned you moving in together very soon. Is this true?" The scarred man asked Sasuke.

The Uchiha nodded slowly, looking between the two men.

"She moved in with me just yesterday." Sasuke replied suspiciously, wondering about the sudden paleness to Iruka's face. The man looked about ready to pass out. "Is there something wrong with that, Iruka-san?" He asked in turn, trying not to let his temper get the best of him.

"Sasuke." Kakashi interrupted before Iruka had a chance to answer his question.

His old sensei stood up and leaned over the table, his palms flat on the surface.

"What exactly happened between you and my son?" The man asked the question in such a way that Sasuke felt a cold ball of dread form in his stomach.

There was no way, no fucking way that idiot-!

"Tell me, Sasuke-kun, what is your relationship with Uzumaki Naruto?"
