“Gaara you better take good care of Lee!” Ten ten crossed her arms and eyed the redhead, seemingly sizing him up.
“I’ll be fine Ten ten really.” Lee smiled warmly at his team mate feeling a few tears threaten to fall.
“I’m going to miss you so much Lee.” Ten ten pulled the green nin in a tight hug while letting a few tears escape her brown eyes.
They were at the gates of Konoha and saying goodbye was proving to be a bit more tearful then Lee had thought it would. He was still a ninja but now he would be doing missions for the sand village as well as Konoha.
“LEE!!!”
Lee whirled around and finally broke down into tears.
“GAI SENSEI!!!”
The two green beasts embraced dramatically both sobbing like children; if Gaara had eyebrows he would’ve raised one in question.
“LEE!!!! MY BEAUTIFUL YOUTHFUL STUDENT!!!!”
“GAI SENSEI!!!!!”
“OK stop you two before I throw up!” Naruto appeared from behind the gates smiling.
“Naruto-kun!” Lee stood up and wiped his eyes frantically, embarrassed by his display of emotion.
“You will defiantly come back to visit and not forget about us right?” The blond asked sadly as he stood in front of the slightly older nin.
“Hai of course!” Lee did the ‘pose’ even though inside he wasn’t so sure of himself.
“Lee-san….”
All eyes turned to see Sakura standing slightly awkwardly at the gate entrance looking down.
“Sakura-chan! You came to say good bye?” Lee walked toward the pink haired nin.
“Hai have a safe-“
Lee enveloped her in a warm hug cutting her off abruptly.
“I’ll come back soon.”
“H..hai. I’m glad.” Sakura said shakily pulling out of the green nin’s embrace.
She wouldn’t meet his eyes and that made Lee frown with uneasiness until he understood.
“Sakura-san keep searching.”
“Huh?” She finally looked up and he had been right she was crying.
“You’ll find that someone just for you.” Lee nodded and turned back to the others, not missing the small smile that formed on her lips at the words.
“Ready?” Gaara asked as he nodded to his AMBU to prepare.
“Hai!”

The sun had fallen behind the trees and the moon had risen, though one couldn’t see it from the thick clouds.
“Gaara?” Lee asked inclining his head slightly to look at the redhead behind him.
“Mmmm?” Gaara pulled Lee closer to his chest, smiling secretly at how right it felt.
They had set up camp long before sunset but nether had gotten any sleep yet…..
“You never said it back.”
Lee sat in silence for a long time before Gaara replied.
“You know I do.”
“Say it.”
“Why?”
“Gaara!!” Lee wined.
Snow started to fall out side again but by the look of the clouds it was only going to be a dusting, travel conditions would not be interfered by the white dust. Gaara pulled Lee even closer and wrapped the heavy blankets around them a bit more securely, thinking about the future and how he was actually going to be ok….better then that he was going to be happy. Gaara placed his lips on Lee’s bare neck and smiled when the smaller boy shivered from the contact.
“I love you Lee.”
Lee let out a sigh and settled against Gaara contently, relishing in the warmth. He closed his eyes and slowly drifted off into a peaceful sleep knowing that he was completely safe with his hero close by.
