Debriefing and Promotion
Raven woke up in Konoha Hospital two days later feeling like he had been run over by the proverbial truck only to smile when he found Hinata sleeping in a chair by his bed. He later learned that she had refused to leave his side once he had been admitted.
He almost laughed when he learned that the normally shy and quiet kunoichi actually had to be restrained by Sakura, Lee and Ten-ten when Neji had tried to make her leave. He was also surprised to find out that not only had she brow beaten Tsunade into allowing her to stay with Raven but had also stood up to her father when he had come to personally take her home.
==============================
A few hours after waking up Raven finds himself in the Hokage’s office along with the Special Jounin that had tested him only two days ago. Tsunade is leaning on her desk with her hands folding in front of her face as she stares intensely at a slightly nervous Raven. “I have reviewed the accounts of what happened the other day from everyone but you. I am interested in what your views on the subject.”
Raven nods as he begins his account of what happened in the training field two days ago. “To be honest I was scared at first.” He notices the looks of understand he gets from the adults in the room. “When I found out who my opponents were I thought I was in more trouble then I could handle,” he admits.
Even his mask is unable to conceal the smirk he has as he continues, “Once they split up I knew that I had a change because if everyone had stayed together then I would have been forced to waste valuable time waiting for night fall before I could even form any type of strategy. As it was even with the situation being divided into a series of one on one fights I still needed to determine the most logical order to systematically neutralize the threat potential of the test.
“Shizune was of course the greatest threat to my plans as her medical Ninjutsu could allow her to heal those I had already beaten while I was busy fighting the others. That was unacceptable since it would have drawn the fight on far longer then I would have been able endure. Anko was next simply because she was the closest target once Shizune had been captured.”
“WHY YOU LITTLE SHIT… I’LL FUCKING KILL YOU.” Anko roars as she lunges for Raven’s throat. Kakashi, Gai and Fei struggle to restrain the furious kunoichi until she goes completely stiff in their arms. As she slowly turns her head to look behind her their gaze follows hers until they all see the detached hand holding a kunai sticking out of the shadows in the corner behind her.
As they turn back towards him they watch as Raven pulls his hand out of his pants pocket holding a kunai. A quick glance back to the corner reveals that the hand and the kunai are both gone. “What the hell just happened?” Asuma asks. “How the hell did he just do that?”
Raven returns his kunai to its holster as he explains. “I’m sure that Fei-sensei told you all how I can Shadow Walk individual body parts without having to actually shadow walk myself.” They all nod in the affirmative. “Well what he didn’t know, or rather failed to realize until the end of the test, is that I can also Shadow Walk items that are already completely surrounded in darkness.”
“That’s how you did it,” Kakashi says as his visible eye stares in amazement at Raven.
“Aye,” Raven answers. “While I was putting my bandages way I Shadow Walked the scroll from your vest pocket into my first-aid kit.”
“I’m impressed,” Kurenai tells him. “Not only were you able to carry yourself like a true shinobi in the face of seemingly impossible odds despite your fears but even after sustaining such heavy loss of both blood and chakra you still had the presence of mind to pull of a truly inspired plan.”
“Yeah,” Asuma agrees. “Way to use your head,” he chuckles as he rubs the bump he still has from Raven’s head butt two days ago.
“I think we all agree," Tsunade says as all eyes turn back towards her. "That you have proven yourself to be an excellent fighter, a clever strategist and a leader that values the safety of his men more then his own.” She pulls out a piece of paper and signs it before handing it to Raven. “Raven Hiroku, I officially declare you a full fledged Shinobi and am pleased to confer upon you the title of Jounin. Congratulations.”
Raven is left speechless while the others shake his hand and pat his back as they too congratulate him on his promotion. After a few moments he bows to Tsunade. “Thank you Hokage-sama,” he finally says. “I give you my word of honor that I shall not disappoint you nor give you pause to reconsider your decision.”
“I’m sure you will continue to do fine,” she replies with a smile. “Now get going, I’m sure that a certain heiress who will want to congratulate you herself.” She gives him a wink before he makes his way past the other Jounin and fades into the shadows.
“That boy’s truly something special,” she says as they watch him leave. They all agree and bid her good-bye as they decide to make their way to their favorite bar to drink to Konoha’s newest Jounin, even if he’s not there to join them.
=============================
A/N: Raven made Jounin after all, of course you knew that he would. I would like to thank Darkened Naruto for his review and hope to hear from the rest of you in the future. There is only one chapter left in this story. After that I’m going to start on the second story in my Naruto series. I hope those of you that are enjoying this story will read the next as it will reveal more of Raven’s past and explain why Raven and Hinata’s marriage was arranged, what happened to Raven’s mom and why Raven’s father blames the Hyuga clan for her death. Stay tuned and please remember to review.
