Chapter13

/* AN: I'm sorry that it's taken so long to put this chapter out. I've gotten a full time job at a call center here so money won't be an issue once I start at the end of the month. Time however will be. For the first month the only free time I'll have will be spent sleeping, except on weekends. I may have enough time on the weekends to put out chapters but I don't want to put up sub-par work either. Bare with me, I have no intention of allowing this story die.*/

*DISCLAIMER: I do not own any of the characters in Naruto. If you have a problem with male/male content then you probably shouldn't read this story as it will eventually be coming to that.*

Naruto slowly woke. His head was pounding, his stomach hurt, and there was dirt rubbing roughly against the side of his face. This was very odd, even more odd then when he woke up in the hospital half way through a mission. Opening his eyes was useless, there wasn't even a tiny shaft of light to see wherever he was. All he knew was that there was dirt around him and however big this room was, he was alone in it. There was no indication as to the direction of the door or what time it was. An hour, a day, or even a year could have passed and he would have no way to tell.

The darkness was oppressive; it was in this pitch black that all the darkest ages of his life came back to haunt him. He could see the angry faces of all the villagers; as far as they were concerned HE was the reason they would never see the one's they loved again. Even as a small child, barely able to walk, he was shunned, his Nurse maid at the orphanage had only paid attention to him when he pretended to be asleep. He'd once heard another care taker say that she would rather die then look into his eyes. She had said that when she looked at him, all she saw was the family she had lost to the Kyuubi and wished that he would just die to spare everyone the reminder.

Of course at the time, Naruto had no idea what Kyuubi was; but when he was told about what happened to the Yondaime, and how it had involved him, everything clicked into place. He understood why people hated him, why he had the strangest birth marks of all, why the people would rather pretend he didn't exist then to even look at him.

He had been so close to being like Gaara, to living only to kill people, to ensure his own existence. He had also been very close to how Sasuke was when he left for Orochimaru; he would have done anything to make the villagers look at him, accept him. What he wouldn't have given at that time to just run down the street to play ninja games with the other children his age. But that wasn't his destiny.

All at once recent events came back to him; he was carrying Sasuke's child. He'd been abducted by Itachi. His hand ran over his abdomen, there was a baby in there, a small smile graced his lips. Even in this hell, imposed on him by the baby's Uncle, this small life inside of himself was a little piece of heaven. He would never be alone again. He would always have this child, and Sasuke's friendship.

This child would grow wanting for nothing; it would be loved, beyond any child before in Konoha. It would be save too, with Naruto and Sasuke always there to protect it, it could never be safer. Loved, cared for, safe, everything that Sasuke and Naruto had never had themselves when they grew up. Another smile graced the inky blackness of the room.

He pushed himself up to sit, and swiped an arm around himself to try to find a wall. His wrist crashed into one behind him so he leaned on it as he found his feet. Once standing, and shaking the slight pain from his wrist, he began to follow the wall, hoping to find a door. He wandered along the wall for what, to him, seemed like an eternity. He stumbled upon it, and managed to map out the room while he was at it; a rectangular room, with the door set into a small alcove, probably to provide cover as a guard entered the room. He didn't dare explore the interior of the room for fear of hurting himself. There was nothing on any of the walls, as far as he could tell, just bare concrete walls.

In his walk he found that the room was about three paces by five paces; not very big. No sign of anything to use to clean himself, or to use the bathroom, this was a true dungeon, all that was missing was the shackles. Finding that he'd been stripped of all weapons and clothing down to his pants, he tried reaching out with his chakra to find anything of use inside the tiny room.

Then it hit him. He didn't have any chakra, or at least he couldn't use it. It was like Neji had hit all of his openings, he couldn't feel it anywhere in his body. He knew that the Kyuubi was still in him, even if he couldn't feel the energy, he could feel the presence sleeping in the back of his mind the same way he could feel his hands and feet.

"Kyuubi?"

"What do you want, Brat?" The voice echoed through his head.

"Where am I?" He slowly sat, leaning against the wall across from the door.

"A dark room, probably underground."

The blond deadpanned, "Really? I never would have guessed that myself."

"Well that's all I want to tell you. If Neji were here though, he might be more inclined to tell you that the walls of this place have sucked out all of your chakra, the same way that monster from the Sound's Four did way back when you went after Sasuke."

"The baby isn't in any trouble is it?"

"Funny you should ask. I thought you would have asked a long time ago if I could handle keeping this kid alive."

"Well?"

"This child is as much mine as it is your's or Sasuke's. I intend to have my offspring survive, and I'll do whatever I have to, to make it happen. This room can't reach my chakra since it isn't emitted from you automatically like your own is. The baby will be fine."

"Thank Kami-sama."

There was a growl, "Thank me." Naruto could have sworn he saw yellow eyes narrowed in front of him for a second.

It was a long time before there was any sign that anyone even knew Naruto was in this small dark room. He hadn't heard anyone or anything for so long, he was beginning to think he'd simply been left here to die. There was a bang from a far distance away, sounding like metal on metal. Probably a door opening as far as Naruto could figure. Then two voices that got closer and closer.

The blond slid into a corner as far away from the door as possible, so he could prepare himself for any attack should there be one. A small access hatch opened at the bottom of the door and a small tray with a dish was slid in. In the brief moment of light he noticed the room was in fact empty, the floor was dirt, and the walls were gray concrete as he had thought.

The flap shut and with it went the light. The two voices went away talking congeneally one another, then the same bang signaling the door had been swung shut again. This time though, he heard the distinct sound of a bolt being thrown and a key in a lock. Even if he could get out of this room, there was another door he'd have to break through, and without chakra that was a virtually impossible feat.

Sighing in momentary defeat, he moved along the wall to the alcove of the door, and to the small tray of food. Reaching, his fingers sunk into what felt like soggy bread, it turned his stomach, but he knew if he was to keep his strength up he would need to eat, as long as it wasn't poisoned anyway.

Of course it would take a lot of poison to kill the blond, he still didn't want to take the chance of getting sick in his condition. Taking a deep breath he called on the kitsune demon again, "Kitsune! Can I eat this?"

"I don't care."

"Will it kill me, yarou?"

"No. That's not their plan. They want me, and they need you alive for the time being to get me."

The blond sighed, they would abuse him in every possible way, to break his spirit in order to drag the demon out of him, he already knew that; but at least they weren't going to kill him for a while anyway; hopfully it would give Baa-chan a chance to get a rescue force together.

He pulled his fingers from the substance and brought them to his face. It smelled like sugar, it was probably just a protein/starch paste to keep him alive, but nothing else. Barely reaching his tongue out to his finger tip, he tasted it. It felt like tapioca pudding but tasted like... pasty whole wheat.

He'd never liked whole wheat, but this was his only choice. He reached out and felt for utensils, there were none. With a resigning breath he brought the bowl to his lips and dumped the soggy poragde substance into his mouth. He swallowed as quickly as possible so he wouldn't taste it.

This was it, this was one of the lowest points of his life. He was being held captive because of the beast inside of him, like an animal he was being fed through the bars of his cage and there was nothing he could do about it but wait to be rescued. He didn't bother to wipe his hand off before falling to his side. He might as well get some rest.
