Celebrations and Confessions
A/N: I know that this is supposed to be feudal Japan, well kind of, but honestly I know very little about the proper clothing for that time period. So since this is my Alternate Universe I’m going to have the characters wearing more modern clothing for this chapter.

The next evening finds Raven in his room preparing to go out with his friends. They were to meet for dinner at the Konoha’s finest restaurant to celebrate not only his promotion but also Hinata’s new job at the Academy. As he finishes getting dressed he looks at the box sitting beside a dozen cosmos on his bed.
Earlier that day he had stopped by Ino’s family’s flower shop and bought the flowers, thankful that Ino had been had out at the time. On the way home he had noticed a beautiful jewel encrusted gold butterfly hairpin that he thought would be perfect for Hinata.
Picking up the gifts he walks outside and finds Jade waiting impatiently in the courtyard. “Sapphire is taking her sweet time again I see,” he says as he walks over towards her. Jade is wearing an emerald satin dress with a modest neckline that reaches down to her ankles with a slit on each side that comes up to mid-thigh. Her emerald teardrop earrings match the emerald teardrop necklace she is wearing.
Raven is dressed an all black suit he had tailor made for a formal dinner that his father had insisted he attend last year. His dress shirt has a banded collar and black pearl buttons and black onyx cufflinks the character for “Kage” done in silver. His jacket is single breasted with a gray handkerchief perfectly folded in the breast pocket. His polished black dress shoes and uncovered face complete the whole young aristocrat look he is going for.
“Damn,” Sapphire whistles as she walks out of her room to join them. “And I thought I was going to turn some heads tonight.” Sapphire is dressed in a very low-cut sapphire silk dress that reaches to the top of her knees with a slit on each side that comes up to her hips. Here jewelry is nearly identical to that of her twins except that the stones are sapphires and not emeralds.
Raven smiles at his cousins, “You both look very beautiful tonight and are going to break many hearts.” He looks down at his watch and notices the time. “Now if you ladies will excuse me I need to go pick up my date. I’ll see you both at the restaurant.”

Raven arrives at the Hyuga compound and slowly makes his way towards the main mansion. He ignores the glares and whispered conversations around him as he nocks on the door. A few moments later a young servant girl answers. “Hinata-sama will be a few moments longer Raven-sama.”
Raven nods, “Would you please give these to Hinata-chan for me as the flowers need to be put in water anyways.” The girl nods as she takes them from him and bows before leaving to give her mistress the gifts.
Hinata comes out a few minutes later wearing the hairpin he bought her. She bows in greeting before looking up at him. “Thank you for the gifts Raven-kun but you didn’t have to get me anything.” she says softly.
“It would have been inexcusable to pick you up for dinner without at least bringing flowers,” Raven tells her as she smiles at him. “Besides,” he adds as he offers her his arm. “I knew the hairpin would look perfect on you.”
She blushes as she takes his arm. He can’t help thinking that her pale blue dress suits her. The style and cut of the dress is modest yet elegant in its simplicity. Her diamond studded earrings and gold locket complete her look.

They arrive at the restaurant and find their friends waiting for them at the large table he had reserved for them. As the walk over towards the group Raven notices the way everyone is dressed. Shino is wearing his usual clothes which suit’s the others fine since the thought of the bug-nin in anything else is slightly weird. Lee looks a bit out of place in his green turtleneck sweater and matching green pants while Kiba’s black shoes, slacks and black polo shirt seem to suit him.
Neji is dressed in a gray suit double-breasted suit and appears to be waiting until etiquette permits him to politely make his escape. Sakura and Ten-ten are both dressed in more traditional Japanese style dresses though Sakura’s is fire red while Ten-ten’s is royal blue. Ino is wearing a dark red halter-top with a black miniskirt and has a simple gold hairpin. Shikamaru, who just got duty before arriving is still wearing his Chunin uniform while Choji is dressed similar to Kiba but with a dark blue polo shirt.
They order dinner and begin to talk about current events after everyone congratulates both Raven and Hinata. As dinner arrives Raven observes that the topic of conversation takes an uncomfortable yet expected turn. “So what exactly are you two to each other?” Ino asks. Causing the others to stop eating for the moment, except of course Choji.
“Aside from the obvious,” Raven says looking at her. “For the moment we are really good friend.”
“Meaning what exactly?” Neji demands picking up Ino’s line of questioning. He can’t help but notice they way Hinata’s hand reaches for Raven’s under the table.
“If you are asking are we dating then the answer is no.” Raven tells them. He gives Hinata’s hand a reassuring squeeze as if silently asking her to let him handle this alone.
“Then you would not mind if someone else were to ask Hinata-chan out?” Kiba asks with a grin. Hinata’s face reddens as she looks down at her plate. She knows that he’s only teasing but it is still embarrassing to her/
“If Hinata-chan wishes to go out with someone then it is not my place to stop her,” Raven answers noticing Hinata‘s reaction out of the corner of his eye “Although I would hate to think about what unfortunate accidents might happen to anyone brave enough to try,” he says with a grin of his own.
“So you do care about her?” Sakura asks noticing the possessiveness in Raven’s tone and the protective way he’s holding her hand under the table.
“Never said I didn’t,” Raven responds. He knows that this is getting him nowhere so he decides to lay his cards on the table in hopes of ending the rumors about him and Hinata. “I’m not going to play twenty questions with you guys all night so listen up cause I’m only saying this once.
“While Hinata and I are to be married we don’t feel that should have any effect on our lives right now. As for the exact nature of our relationship, we are still working on figuring that out ourselves. We like each other and enjoy spending time together but so far we are just friends and are currently not dating. That all may change in the future and personally I hope it does but until then I’m happy with the way things and am not going to do anything that might jeopardize that.”
The remainder of the even progresses nicely without any further discussions about raven and Hinata’s love life after Raven’s little speech. After dinner he walks Hinata home and gives her a good-night kiss on the cheek, promising to meet her for lunch the next day.
As he walks home Raven smiles thinking to himself that all in all it had actually been a good month. Everyone he cared about was alive, he was a Jounin and with Hinata just being a part of his life everything seemed just a little bit better.
