The Price We Pay

Well, it certainly had been an interesting past few days, Sasuke mussed. Very interesting indeed.

First he had arrived early in the morning at Naruto room to find an Security Guard there at his loves door. Turned out after the 'incident' Gaara had contacted an ex-cop friend in the security business now and asked him, as a favor, to be there to guard Naruto when they weren't around.

Apparently she was receiving regular payments by an 'Orochimaru Sanin'. After much heavy investigation the name was matched to 'the asshole'. Before now they had been unable to go forward with the case and prosecution because not only was their star witness in a coma but they were unable to identify the accused, no one could identify him and he refused to give his name other than 'The Master of the new race.'

Now they had a name they could proceed and every day new information on his working came in.

Like he had been using the money from the bank holdups to pay people off in high positions, including law and law enforcement. It was turning out to be the biggest bust in history.

As for the nurse, she had worked in various hospitals around the country. She would transfer to one, win the trust and friendship of her co-workers and superiors, then get hold of the children and young adult files and send 'The Asshole' the special cases.

It was HER who had worked at the hospital near Naruto's family property and leaked them to 'The Asshole' and Naruto had sobbed brokenly when he realized if she hadn't his parents would still be alive today.

Sasuke had shuddered while he had held his love close. They had discovered that even HIS and ITACHI'S had been given to HIM, but they had been rejected for some reason. How would he have handled it if both his love AND HIS BROTHER had been taken? If Itachi had of ended up like the children, or worse, Naruto?

How would he have survived mentally in tact without his brother's strength, without his brother to 'lean on'?

The next thing was connected to the last.

All eyes turned to find a pair of red slitted eyes watching them calmly.

"Kyuubi" Sasuke greeted "haven't seen or heard from you since we organized the plan for rescue."

"I have been here, I watch what goes on, but it is hard to awaken one almost dead and I was so tired" his eyelids drooped and for a second he looked about to sleep. But then they opened again.

"So we have you to thank for getting Naruto out of his coma" Iruka said. "He is MY kit, I could not let him fade away." Iruka ignored the obvious possessive shot at him in favor of asking "what IS this Sharingan and how do YOU know about it being some sort of inherit ability?"

Madara added "I have researched our family line going back generations and never heard of this thing."

Kyuubi glared at him "you went back as far as the written word, I am talking eons ago, before humans."

"What are you...?"

Those red glowing eyes moved to Sasuke and to his shock and horror the face was twisted in hate, the eyes filled with fury as he snarled thickly "I knew who and what you were from the moment I first saw you, even before hearing your name and I was furious! You were, and are Uchiha and I hated you! I wanted you no where near my kit, I tried to warn him away from you but he refused to listen! He knew from the moment he saw you who you were to him, that you were his chosen one, his mate."

"Why?" Sasuke managed to rasp "why did you hate me so much when you didn't know me? What did I do to you?"

"It's not WHAT you did, but who you were, you were Uchiha and my hate knew no bounds for them."

"Why?"

Kyuubi suddenly sighed heavily and closed his eyes briefly, the anger and hate slowly fading from it "You remember what I said about the end of the Earth souls? How they died?"

"They just died or were killed."

"I wasn't entirely truthful. The entire race-or so I thought until my kit was born-were hunted down and slaughtered like the animal souls they came from. Betrayed by two brothers whose names I have long forgot, all for sexual favors, killed my brother race off all for the attention of an female, an HUMAN female at that!" Kyuubi sounded disgusted.

"I may not remember the brothers names but I will NEVER forget their clan or animal. Wolves, the Earth Souls of the wolves, clan name-Uchiha."

Kyuubi went on "that is why my kit was pulled and attracted to you, as an Earth Soul, no matter how distant an ancestry, you are his fated, his only one.
