Chapter 2: Of Fairies and Kabuki

Chapter 2: Of Fairies and Kabuki

"Well, come on Sasuke," sighed Naruto, trying to be optimistic. "We won't get to the maze, let alone get through it, by just standing here."

Sasuke snorted. "Yeah. I really want to get to that snake-like bastard faster than we all ready are."

Naruto rolled his eyes before tugging on his best friend’s hand, pulling Sasuke along to make their way to the beginning of the maze. Naruto stopped abruptly as they reached the courtyard before the labyrinth, and Sasuke, not paying attention to anything besides his daydreams, ran into the blonde. The both toppled over, and Sasuke rose on his hands and knees as Naruto turned over. They were both in a compromising position. Naruto’s breath hitched slightly as Sasuke stared into his eyes, but the moment was broken by a splash. Naruto remembered why he stopped as Sasuke raised himself to his feet, before helping Naruto up.

In the courtyard, in front of a large pond, a silver-haired man with glasses who looked to be in his mid-twenties was dumping a body into the pond. “Oi! Sumimasen!”

The man blinked his surprise at seeing the two, one blonde with bright blue eyes and a somewhat happy face, the other with black-blue hair and cold onyx eyes. “Ah! Sumimasen! Matte… It’s only you.” He returned to lowering another body into the pond, smiling in satisfaction as the dead human slipped into the water with a soft splash and a few bubbles. The man picked up a spray can and returned to the sparse but glittering tannish foliage. Naruto noticed the glittering beings flying around. “Kawaii!”

Sasuke rolled his eyes, asking, “Can you help us get through the labyrinth?”

“What do you mean, ‘it’s only you’?” growled Naruto as he remembered the silver-haired man’s words, stomping over to the silver haired man.

But before Naruto could turn the man around, he sprayed a glittering thing, exclaiming, “Fifty-seven!”

Naruto looked aghast, hurrying over to the fallen fairy while Sasuke stood by the pond with a raised eyebrow, looking at all the bodies on the bottom. Picking up the small being, Naruto glared at the man. “How could you?!” The man’s slight upturn of his lips was the only response Naruto got. Sasuke sighed and picked up the fairy. “Poor thing…” Naruto cooed. He glared at the man. “You monster!”

“Itai!” Sasuke exclaimed, dropping the fairy and clutching his hand. “It bit me…”

“What did you expect it to do? Grant wishes?” The man chuckled darkly, looking at the two out of the corner of his eyes as Naruto tended to Sasuke’s hand. “Shows what you know!” He sprayed two more fairies. “Fifty-eight!”

“You’re horrible!” hissed Naruto, clasping Sasuke’s uninjured hand and tugging him along, albeit gently, while following the man. Naruto stopped, causing Sasuke to run into him, as the man stopped and looked at them.

“No, I’m Kabuto,” the man replied with a smirk, pushing up the glasses on his nose. He raised the spray can again, eyes lingering on the blonde. “Who’re you two, again?”

“I’m Naruto,” the blonde one said. “And this is my…”

“I’m his boyfriend,” coldly snapped Sasuke, wrapping his arms around Naruto’s waist and bringing the smaller blond flush against his chest, “Sasuke.” Dropping his head onto Naruto’s shoulder, Sasuke glared at Kabuto, a bit overwhelmed by the wave of possessiveness that struck him. Sasuke ignored the faint warmth staining his cheeks, but the damage was done as Kabuto’s leering gaze backed off of his Naruto.

Wait. Where did that come from? ‘My Naruto?’ Sasuke thought. He liked the sound of that, and began to form a plan in his genius mind. ‘My Naruto-kun…’

“I thought so,” sighed Kabuto, spraying another fairy down. “Fifty-nine.”

Naruto rolled his eyes and relaxed back into Sasuke’s arms. He was only playing it up. Yeah. That’s all it was. Naruto was NOT enjoying his time with Sasuke’s arms around his waist and Sasuke’s firm, toned chest against his back or Sasuke’s breath on his neck… Of course this was only for show…Right? “Do you know where the door to the labyrinth is?”

“Maybe,” Kabuto replied cryptically. He snuck up on another fairy.

“Well then where is it?” asked Sasuke, swaying with Naruto a bit, caressing the little patch of skin between the shirt that had ridden up and pants. Naruto could barely keep from the tempting distraction… But he did.

“Oh you little!” Kabuto smacked a fairy down, harder than necessary, and sneered at it, “SIXTY!”

“Why are you spraying them, anyway?” questioned Naruto, quirking his eyebrow at the silver-haired man. He reluctantly slid out of Sasuke’s warm embrace, shooting a heated look at the taller teen, his hands lingering on Sasuke’s arms. “You’ve done what… sixty today?”

“Sixty this last hour, baka,” Kabuto said, sweatdropping.

“Anou, I asked where it is,” interjected Sasuke, coming up behind Naruto. He was a little closer than normal, but Naruto wouldn’t admit that he didn’t mind.

“Where is what?” asked Kabuto, with a small amused smile. Naruto rolled his eyes. This guy was playing with them. ‘He’s smarter than he seems,’ Naruto inwardly sighed.

“The door!” snarled Naruto, getting annoyed.

“Which door?”

“Oh, it’s hopeless asking you anything!” Sasuke groaned, turning around.

“Ask the correct questions, then,” chuckled Kabuto with a mocking voice.

“How do we get into the labyrinth?” asked Naruto, still trying. He needed to get Kono-chan back… Konohamaru was probably so scared.

“Ah!” said a smiling Kabuto, looking at the couple behind him. “Now, that’s the right question. You two get into the labyrinth…” He pointed behind them, back at the courtyard they had come from. “There.”

Naruto and Sasuke turned around to see a large, wooden door surrounded by green ivy and hanging plants open before their eyes. It wasn’t there before… was it? Sasuke swatted at a passing fairy as it tried to bite him again.

The silver-haired man paused. “You’re really going in there, aren’t you?”

“Yes,” sighed Naruto, rubbing his head. “I’m afraid I must. I need to get my baby brother back.”

Kabuto laughed as Naruto and Sasuke stepped through the doorway. “Cozy, ne? Now, would you go left, or right?”

The teens looked each way, eyes lingering on each pathway. Where to go? Left or right, indeed. “They look the same, Katobu.”

“It’s Kabuto,” sighed the silver-haired man, running a hand down his face. “Well, you’re not going to get very far with that attitude.”

“Which way would you go?” Sasuke asked in a very bored tone. He was nervous though; Sasuke was in a place where he was at a disadvantage. He wouldn’t show his inner turmoil, even if it killed him. Such was the stubbornness of Sasuke.

“I wouldn’t go either way,” smirked Kabuto, narrowing his eyes at Sasuke. His eyes flitted to Naruto, and Sasuke glared when he saw Kabuto’s eyes move up and down, almost staring through Naruto’s clothing.

“If that’s all the help you’re gonna be, you can leave now,” Sasuke growled, annoyed and irritated by Kabuto. Checking out his Naruto… The inner-Sasuke was pounding Kabuto into the ground. With a spiked metal club.

“You take too much for granted,” Kabuto sighed, leaning on the stone doorway. “That’s you problem. Think about this: even if you do get to the center, you’ll never get back out again. Never.”

“That’s your opinion,” huffed Naruto in disbelief. “We will.”

“My opinion’s a hell of a lot better than yours,” Kabuto shot back, still leering at Naruto.

“Thanks for nothing, Kabuki,” Naruto sighed, pulling Sasuke along by their entwined hands to the right. Kabuto’s eye twitched.

“Man, my name is KABUTO!” he yelled. “Don’t say I didn’t warn you!” Kabuto stormed off.

Sasuke looked at the retreating man and shook his head. “Bah and good riddance.”
