Later that day, Kakashi found himself lounging on a bench reading Icha Icha, the three scrolls meant for his team strewn haphazardly on the ground. To the untrained eye, it might have seemed as though he was idly wasting his valuable time. In truth, he was waiting. The silver haired man began a slow countdown in his head. 3, 2, 1.... Right on time, he heard Naruto Uzumaki yelling something idiotic about training and ramen, followed by Sakura Haruno’s overbearing demands that her teammate be silent, or at the very least, a bit more quiet. Naturally, Sasuke Uchiha ignored the both of them. And luckily for Kakashi, the teen wonders were heading straight toward him.
When they were in range Kakashi raised one hand in a lazy, halfhearted wave, beckoning his students closer. “What’s going on, Kakashi-sensei?” Of course, Sakura was the first to ask a question. Wordlessly, Kakashi pointed at the three scrolls on the ground, waiting until the teenagers had each bent and taken one. He’d been about to speak when Sakura decided to read her letter aloud.
“You have been selected to take part in the Chuunin Unification Program. Participation is mandatory. At nine pm on October 4th, you will need to be present at the reserved location. The leader of your cell will escort you. Pack only what you will need for the next two days. After that time, everything that you require to succeed will be provided. It is not recommended to bring any possessions that you value greatly. You will receive further instructions upon your arrival at the camp.”
As one, the three teenagers looked at their sensei, the same bewildered expression on each of their faces. Sasuke quickly hid his puzzlement, dark gaze sharply trained on the man before him. “ I suppose you can’t tell us what this is all about, right now, so I’ll ask questions I think you can answer. The 4th is tomorrow, Kakashi-sensei. When do we have to leave to make it on time?”
The Jounin stretched and yawned, then stood, stashing his book in a handy pouch he’d bought for just that purpose. “We leave tomorrow morning at 6am. It’s going to be a hike, up into the mountains, so get plenty of food and rest tonight. You’re going to need your energy.” As soon as Sakura opened her mouth, Kakashi held up his hand for silence. “That’s enough questions for now. You know what you need to know for now. Have a good day, guys.” Leaving Naruto and Sakura both staring after him slack-jawed, and Sasuke brooding, Kakashi went on with his day.
