------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Silence filled the area as Kakashi and Sakura waited for what Tsunade was about to say. Kakashi and Sakura pulled off their masks silently. Tsunade leaned back in her seat, lips thinning into a line as she looked up at the ceiling. She held up a scroll.

“Read it, memorize it, complete it.” She said to them. Kakashi opened the scroll silently, eyes skimming over the contents. He then nodded his head before handing it off to Sakura, and she read over the kanji quickly. Her cherry-blossom eyebrows furrowed slightly into a small frown.

“Now that you’ve read it, I’ll give you my input about it...” Tsunade said as she leaned forward into her seat again.

“You need to take this with utmost care…It seems easy enough, but I think there’s more to it then that…like, looking beneath the underneath.” She said to them and Kakashi’s eyes crinkled slightly at her use of words. Sakura nodded her head.

“But it’s only a recon….” Sakura said slowly.
Tsunade rose her hazel colored eyes to look at her with a slight frown.

“That’s all the more reason for you to be on guard. This isn’t child’s play.” She stated. Sakura bowed her head.

“Erm…sorry Godaime-sama…” she muttered. Kakashi looked to her in silence before looking to Tsunade.

“So we’re going to the area where there have been rumors that Akatsuki has been seen…?” he asked slowly.

“Yes.” Tsunade said with a small nod of her head. “And sources tell me that Naruto is safe and sound….where ever he is…” she said slowly. “He may not be in this village anymore, but Akatsuki continues to be a threat to us, and other hidden villages as well.”

Sakura lowered her head and her expression hardened. It was still a touchy subject for her. The girl that had been unable to stop both of her teammates from abandoning their homes in Konoha.

It was hell, and she knew it to be even worse for Tsunade, because even after two years, the council was breathing down on her, saying that the Kyuubi’s vessel needed to be found. Even though they could care less about the blonde that held the 9-tailed demon creature within them, the underlying fear that he could be used against them was their only reason for concern.

“Want him caught and detained” is what they were always saying to the Godaime. They hadn’t classified him as missing or anything of the sort, because then, that would only make it harder for them to locate Akatsuki, and their base of operations.

Sakura, for the umpteenth time, couldn’t help but hate this village with her very being. Wanting Naruto back only as a weapon; it made her sick to her stomach, and she hoped that Naruto would never be found. She was silent as she watched Tsunade rub at her temple with a look of annoyance on her face, eyes focused on the paperwork before her.

Sakura knew what the woman honestly wanted to do. Drink a bit of sake and take a nap. The workload was endless, and Sakura couldn’t help but feel pity for her every time she saw the woman. Tsunade finally looked at them.

“Oi…what are you still doing here? You’re dismissed.” She said to them as she set her hands on the table calmly, papers fluttering slightly as she picked up her ink pen. She turned her head this way and that, and she began reading and signing off paperwork.

Kakashi and Sakura immediately bowed their head to her in respect. Just as they were making their way to leave, Tsunade looked up.

“Hold on a moment Sakura.” She said. She turned her hazel gaze to Kakashi.

“You may start off, Dove will catch up.” She said and Kakashi nodded his head, pulling on his porcelain mask once again. He stepped out of the room and the door shut. Tsunade watched Sakura silently.

“What’s going on through your mind Sakura?” she asked her softly and Sakura looked back at her with a faint smile on her lips, hiding what she was truly thinking. She looked off to the side and ran a hand through her strawberry colored hair.

“What do you mean Tsunade-sama?” she asked her.

“How’s everything at home?” Tsunade asked with a small sigh, frowning slightly.

“Everything’s fine, I don’t know why you worry so much.” Sakura answered with a smile on her pale pink lips. Tsunade shook her head with a small smile.

“…I just can’t help worrying about both of you..” she muttered. Sakura knew who else she had been referring to. Naruto. She saw Naruto as the son that she never had, and it must have hurt her deeply when the blonde teen had left. Sakura swallowed thickly as the memory tried to pull her back in to relive it, but she wouldn’t allow herself to do that in front of Tsunade. That would only make her worry more.

“Well don’t, me and Kakashi’ll be alright.” She said grinning at Tsunade, trying to cheer the Hokage up, as well as herself.

Tsunade nodded her head a little.

“Alright then.” The blonde female replied. “But…when the mission is completed…I want to give you a proposition, alright? When you come back.” She said to her. Sakura nodded her head slowly. She probably had a feeling she knew what it was.

The title of Hokage. She had a feeling it had something to do with that. That’s probably why, she had become the older woman’s apprentice, to take her place. Well Sakura had an answer for that if that’s what it really was. She would not accept, because, she would not accept being the leader of fools. She hated this village. She would not want to rule over such simple minded people. Not that Tsunade was simple minded. Sakura would always respect the Sannin.

Tsunade was still smiling a little at her and nodded her off.
“Get going now, alright?....and be careful.” She said to her. Sakura nodded her head again and pulled on her mask.

“Yes Hokage-sama.” She said with respect and she walked out of the room, shutting the door.

Tsunade didn’t know why, but when that door shut, she had a very bad feeling. About letting them go off on this mission. But she just chalked it up to stress. So with that thought in mind, she opened the drawer to her desk, pulled out a bottle of sake, took a swig of it before laying her head down on the table to take a nap.
