Chapter 2
Same night, across the village…
A small blonde boy sat huddled in his closet under a mountain of blankets and his worn pillow. He didn’t need to see the lightning to know that the storm was still raging outside.
Tears stained his scarred cheeks and his breath came in ragged gasps.
Thunder rumbled causing shivers to pass through the child’s body.
He could do nothing but hope the storm would be over soon. He hated thunderstorms.
There was nowhere for him to go and no one he could go to. Even if there was, he probably wouldn’t. Everyone hated him. This would give them yet another reason to despise and torment him.
‘Ha! It’s afraid of thunder.’ ‘Maybe if we’re lucky, it’ll run away.’ ‘That monster deserves it.’
Naruto could hear what people would say if they ever found out. He slapped his hands to his ears in the vain hope of stopping the words entering his head. He let out a sob as renewed tears trailed down his cheeks again.
He had always been alone. Well, except for Kyuu-chan. But she didn’t really count since she lived inside his stomach. She couldn’t touch him or comfort him like mothers did. All she did was tell him bad things that she wanted to do to people.
But she wasn’t all bad. Sometimes when people made Naruto cry, she would try to comfort him. He really appreciated that, but sometimes he wished that he could feel her, have her hold him and make all the bad things go away.
“K-kyuu-ch-chan,” Naruto whimpered. “I’m scared.”
‘It’s only a storm. There’s no reason to be frightened.’
“But…”
‘Naruto, stop whining. It will pass soon enough.’
Naruto quieted and took a deep breath. It didn’t look like she would be helping him tonight.
Thunder shook the apartment and Naruto yelped in surprise and fear. ‘Go away. Go away. Go away. Go away.’ Naruto repeated this in his head over and over, hoping that the storm would listen to him.
Unfortunately, just like the people in the village, the storm wasn’t going to listen and it continued throughout the night.
Hours later, the small child finally fell asleep after the storm seemed to lose pleasure in torturing him and left as quickly as it came.
Naruto slept underneath the blankets in the closet with tears that seemed to permanently mar his face. Maybe the day would be better. That’s all he really had. The only thing the people of the village had yet to take away. His hope.

A/N:
Alright. The next chapter. This should be the last short chapter. Promise. The next one will be longer.
Hopefully you were able to tell the slight differences between this chapter and the last. Sasuke is, in a sense, mature for his age; thus a little bit more mature in his thoughts since he is surrounded by older people, while Naruto hasn't had any influences in his life, so his thoughts are probably more or less right for his age, if not simplistic.
Things will move a little quicker now. I just wanted to set things up so that you have a better understanding of why they are the way they are.
Let me know if there are any questions.

blugirlami21: Lol. I guess I should have waited a few chapters before asking for critiques. But thanks for reviewing without anything to really go off of. From Ch. 3 and on, it will be longer and hopefully more character development and plot and SasuNaru goodness.
Midnight Essence: Thanks. All will become clear eventually. I'm not sure when, but at some point you will know whats going on, and hopefully I will too. I do believe that I may take you up on that offer. I will let you know.
