~Epilogue~
Noise poured softly over the little bar. A murmur of happy voices just barely overriding the music. The light was dimmed down so that the only real source of light came from the little candle lights standing on each table. The darkness of the room making colours hard to distinguish, every table was full, not a single stool free. The long bar standing alongside one wall was littered with people trying to get another beer or another fluffy drink.
It was Saturday night, and people were riding high on the alcohol clouding their minds, making the night pleasant. In a table far back in the corner two ravens sat silently and watched how the crowd pulsated with the music. Crimson eyes scanning the crowd for....something. Something that could irk a memory, something that could give him a sense of long longed for familiarity. Something that could make that throb flash through him again.
Sasuke sighed at his older brother and laid his hand on top of his, smiling softly before leaning forward. Sasuke smiled with mocking curiosity before he whispered just loud enough for Itachi to hear; - "Don’t tell me you’re still looking for that golden tuft of hair?"
He was shoved harshly backwards. "Don’t you fucking dare to even mention him!"
"It’s been over two years Itachi! When are you going to get over it?"
"Two years since you fucking killed him Sasuke, I- I liked him... or even more than that. I lov... fuck! It’s not something you just "get over" as you so fittingly put it. “Anger filled Itachi’s crimson eyes.
Sasuke sighed and pulled his hands back, gripping his beer instead staring at the brown liquid. Focusing on the cool feel of the glass against his skin. "... I thought I was loosing you. How many times do we have to go over this Itachi?"
"Seemingly never enough...” Itachi leaned back and studied his brother’s solemn face. Sasuke did look sorry. He always did... and Itachi wasn’t sure who had cried the most. Him or Sasuke? But something told him Sasuke had regretted what he had done, even if his Uchiha pride never would allow him to admit it.
They had taken the game a bit to far this time. Usually they never fell in love. Usually they killed their little prey after the first months... and then went back to just being the two of them
Usually... Itachi sighed and stared down into his empty glass. Swallowing hard.
Naruto had been the golden exception. He had enthralled them both with his dazzling smile, and sky blue eyes. Gods, Itachi missed that smile. That happy energy that would wash over his cold body and make him feel alive again. He couldn’t remember the last time anyone had been able to give that to him. And he missed the feeling of that golden skin under his fingers... those soft lips against his... that tight ring of muscles clamping down around him. Gods... he missed his blond so, so much. And most of all he missed that smile, that laugh.
He had hated Sasuke for what he had done. He had hated him so much. Still did... to some extent.
First it was shock. Utter dread when he saw the stark red river of blood running from the hole in Naruto’s chest. Sasuke had put an exploding bullet straight through his heart. Death was instant, not even a hope of healing.
It had felt like the slug went into Itachi’s heart not Naruto’s. The pain that wrecked his body and soul had been so painful... too painful.
Sasuke had thrown up seconds after Naruto’s limp body had fallen to the ground. Blood soaking into the white carpet. Not from the sight... probably just from the realization of what he had done... the impact it could have on Itachi and him... probably. Itachi had never asked...
"Itachi...?” Sasuke’s voice sounded frail, but it ripped him from his musings. The memories disappearing when he looked into Sasuke’s eyes, those black eyes looking at him from behind a curtain of black hair.
He had only managed to touch his brother as of lately. Only these last months had they had sex again, and oh god... it had felt so good to sink into his little brothers tight flesh again. He couldn’t hate Sasuke... not to that extent. It took to much energy to keep away from this fallen angel...
Itachi sighed and reached for his brother, brushing a black strand away from Sasuke’s forehead, out from his eyes. "You need a haircut little one...”
Sasuke smiled and leaned into his brother’s touch... "I know... uncle says so too..."
"Hn...” Itachi looked over the crowd once again.
"You won’t find anyone...”
"I know... "
"So why do you keep searching?"
Itachi leaned back in his chair and nodded thanks to the "soldier", or zombie as his blond had called them, when he received a new drink, smiling at the memory. “You know I love to play games Sasuke... it`s just a passing of time."
"Yeah... I know." Sasuke sighed and looked over the crowd, scanning the cluster of bodies. Swallowing back the lump creeping up his throat. He wanted to remind Itachi of the royal clusterfuck they had entangled themselves in the last time...wanted to ask him if it really was a good idea to play this "game" again. But he held his tongue. He had just gotten his brother back after two years... he wasn`t about to risk that again. He would just have to pray to whatever god that wanted to listen that Itachi wouldn’t fall again, but then again; ` What’s the chances of the cold bastard falling in love again?` Sasuke snorted to himself and smirked.
`Slim to none...`
"What about that one there?" Sasuke pointed towards a blond man wearing tight leather pants and a pink tank top... at least it looked pink, it was hard to tell in the dimmed light.
Itachi just shook his head like he had done with the last ten million people Sasuke had pointed out.
"You’re hopeless...”
"No... I’m picky...”
"You won’t find anyone like him Itachi...” `God I hope you don`t...`
"Don’t go there again Sasuke...” Itachi growled, slamming his drink down in one go, motioning for the "zombie" to get a new one.
Sasuke waved his hands up in defeat, smiling before leaning back in his chair, crossing his arms. His eyes widening as a familiar voice washed over him in a wave of cold dread. `Holy shit! `
The voice was loud and boulderous; easily overriding the soft murmur of the others around them "It’s fucking true. I swear on freakin Godzilla’s grave!!" the outburst was followed by a thrilling laugh. So, so achingly familiar. It made Itachi’s heart stop for a brief second. Both ravens froze in their seats... turning slowly around. It seemed like time had stopped for a second, every sound distant. With only that voice dancing in Itachi’s ears. He felt numb... thousand needles piercing his skin at once. That voice... it sounded so much like Naruto, but still it wasn`t. was it? No... But he had heard it somewhere before. But where?
And then he saw it... that smile. It was the same... only, still not. He had seen that smile before, he had heard that voice before... and he could recognize those red triangles anywhere, that brown unruly hair. He smirked to himself, as Kiba burst out laughing again.
Oh yes... this game was indeed one of his favourites.
