Absent minded

"FREE YOUR MIND"




Zabuza made it to the river, stripped down and got in. The r war was chilly and made him shiver slightly. Goosebumps formed on his body as he doused himself with water. He looked down and watched the ripples in the water slowly fade away. Haku's voice still ran through his head "Zabuza-sama...." He wondered why he waited so long to do the things he did. A thousand different thoughts ran though his head in what seemed like seconds. Had he always felt this way? Did Haku? Will he always feel this way? He scowled and angrly punched his reflection in the water. "Dammit!"

He gathered his things, got dressed and went back to join Haku. Haku began to pack up his stuff. He left the rest of the blueberries on the rock where he was sitting. Zabuza scooped them up and shoved them all in his mouth. Zabuza gathered his stuff as well and called to Haku "C'mon Haku let's go!"

"Coming Zabuza-san!"

The two walked side by side for over 2 hours, not really talking to much. All Zabuza could think about was what Haku had said eailer "Well, there's always tonight Zabuza-san...." He wondered if he was serious. Again a thousand thoughts ran rapid through Zabuza's head. He remebered when Haku was little and how he used to look. His clothes never fit, they were always baggy and his hair was shorter too. Now look at him. He's filled out in all the right places, his clothes fit to his body now and his hair was long and beautiful. Zabuza turned his head and looked over Haku. Not paying attetion he stumbled over a rock in his path, luckily he saved himself at the last moment. He growled and Haku giggled. Zabuza blushed "That's not funny Haku, I could have fallen!" Haku still giggled "Don't worry, I would have caught you." Zabuza mumbled something back, but Haku couldn't make out what it was. More then likely it was an insult. A few steps futher Haku noticed a trail of blood on the ground. "Zabuza-san look!"

"What is it Haku?"

"It's...it's blood."

The ninjas the two had been sent to hunt had already been in a fight and were still lingering around. "Be on your guard Haku" The two continued their walk when Zabuza heard some rustling in the bushes. Seconds later a dazed and bloody ninja lungged at the two hunters. "HAKU GET DOWN!" Haku ducked and with one swift movement of his hand Zabuza sung his mighty sword slicing the renagade ninja in two. Haku's jaw dropped as he witnessed the blow. Suddenly the other ninja threw a kunai directly at Zabuza. Luckily he moved just enough to get hit in the shoulder instead of the neck. "Zabuza-san!" The ninja darted off "Haku go after him!" Haku nodded and pursued the ninja. Zabuza sat down and removed his shirt to look at his wound. "Shit." Minutes later Haku emerged from the bushes with the renagade ninja's head band in his hand. It was covered in blood. He throw it to the body of the other ninja and ran over to Zabuza. "Are you ok Zabuza-san?" "Yea, it's just a cut. Get the bandages from my b" H" Haku did and he offered to clean off Zabuza's wound, but Zabuza pushed him away. "I got it Haku!"

"...Sorry...I was trying to help you."

Zabuza said nothing and got up and brushed himself off. They had completed what they came to do; destroy the renagade ninjas. "C'mon we got a long way to go to get home."

"Are you upset with me Zabuza-san?"

Zabuza sneered and waved his hand over his shoulder "Nevermind about it Haku." Haku was confused and disappointed. What happened? Had the night before been a mistake or did Zabuza just fake his feelings for his own pleasure? Haku didn't know what was going on. The walk home was tense and unsettling. Night fell and the two finally made it home. Zabuza threw his stuff down and head for the bedroom. Haku stood in the doorway and watched Zabuza. A gust of wind blew and made Haku's ebony colored hair sway. He had an expressionless look on his face. He lowered his head and walked into the house closing the door behind him. Haku went to his room and laid on his bed. He buried his face into his arms and closed his eyes and sighed deepely. Within a few minutes he was asleep. A few hours later Zabuza entered his room and watched him sleep. Zabuza crouched beside him. His shoulder still hurt, he didn't do a very good job dressing it, maybe he should have let Haku do it. Zabuza didn't know what was wrong with him. One minute he's kissing Haku the next he's pushing him away. He brought his hand to the back of his neck and rubbed it. He thought long and hard about Haku...Did he have deep feelings for him? Was it just a silly attraction? What did this all mean? He began to grow more angry at himself, he stood up and left Haku's room to go back to his own. He fell onto his bed and starred at the ceiling. Haku's voice still ran through his head "...Zabuza-sama.." "Zabuza-sama..." All Haku ever wanted was to see Zabuza's dreams come true, so why was it so hard for Zabuza to let him. Obviously Haku's feelings ran deep for Zabuza, but Zabuza couldn't relay the message back. He didn't seem to have a problem letting go of his ambitions the other night. He never formally told Haku he loved him even though he tried to express it to him on several occassions. Zabuza thought silently to himself "If only it wasn't so hard to tell him...tell him...I think I love him." Zabuza's eyes widened. "Wait..." Zabuza's mouth parted slightly. "I just said...." Zabuza sat up "I love him?"
