Her Influence
It's been so long since I've updated on this story. I've got to write more on my other one as well. Gah. I'm such a loser. *chews on a riesen* I want some soup.
Anywho, continuation!!
Ch. 1
Her Influence
“YOSH! The sun is shining! The air is warm! And the spirit is willing! Now, my students, let us continue to train!!”
Everyday. Everyday the two of them would have to put up with it. Those idiots in their green jumpsuits hopping around like a bunch of morons. Ten Ten looked over at Neji who just sat their stoically.
“Neji, it’s so annoying to put up with them.”
“Hn.”
Ten Ten let out a huff. Time after time she had tried to get close to Neji, but nothing ever came out of it. She knew his heart belonged to someone else, but she couldn’t help continuing try to win his admiration.
Neji ran a hand through his long hair, scratching his brow in frustration. He stared up at the sky, seeming to glare at the clouds. It was a hotter day then usual, and his long, dark hair made his head warm and irritable. He was stuck with his annoying teacher, annoying team-mates, and a stupid, annoying sun. He thought it couldn’t get any worse.
“PAPA!!”
Neji snapped his head back to the top of the hill he was under. Hinata was walking down with large bento boxes in one hand. Her hair had grown in the past years and was now tied in a loose ponytail with an eccentric, purple ribbon. The bow itself matched her Kimono that made her look more like the head of the Hyuuga’s then the shy girl she had been.
In her other hand, she held onto the tiny grasp of a little blonde girl.
“Haruka-chan!! You’re looking glorious today!!”
Lee waved enthusiastically at the duo.
The little girl pulled on Hinata’s sleeve.
“Can I play with Lee-Oniisan, Ten Ten Oneesan, and Uncah Gai?!”
Hinata giggled lightly and let go of the small girl’s hand, giving her permission. With a squeal of delight she ran down the hill.
Haruka was truly the mirror image of her mother, even at the age of four. Her golden blonde locks with pulled into pigtails, tied in place with pink ribbons and curled into loose ringlets. She wore a pink jumper that held the icon of a cute trademark kitty on the front* with a white blouse underneath. Her white sox were under her plastic sandals that flopped as she continued to run at her father.
“Papa! Papa! Papa!! Aunty Hina and I made lunch for you!”
Lee smiled as he watched his teammate practically glow. Haruka had been a joy to everyone’s lives. There was hardly a person who did not adore the little girl. Tsunade had done nothing but spoil her. Unfortunately, Jiraiya was the same way. The two of them were just like doting grandparents.
Neji was incredibly surprised when his uncle had taken a fondness to the child. There were nights when Hiashi was found telling the youngling stories at bedtime. Haruka always struggled to stay awake and never heard the end of the story; thus the story was repeated the next night so she could try to hear the ending once more. Also there were days when Hiashi would take his adopted grand-niece on strolls through the garden, telling her about each and every plant and tree. No matter what, she was always fascinated with what her great-uncle would have to say. And whenever she had worn herself out from playing he was always there to carry her to her room for an afternoon nap.
Everyone in Konoha loved Haruka. And it was because of Haruka that many people mourned. They were sad to see the little girl without her mother.
It seemed as though Naruto shined through Haruka. She had his same enthusiasm about life, about others, and about herself. Even the most stoic of people had given her smiles.
Chouji and his father, Chouza, were one’s regularly seen sneaking her pieces of candy behind her father’s back. Ayame and Ichiraku-san were often volunteering to baby-sit, seeing that the girl had the same enthusiasm for ramen as her mother did. Even the ever silent Aburame’s loved her. Shibi often chatted her with and had taught her how to give her father Butterfly Kisses*. Shino loved the little girl, and had taught her how to make origami butterflies. She had latched on to him happily after he made one for her, where she then proceeded to show her father her new present. Afterwards she immediately put it on her nightstand where she could see it everyday.
It seemed that the only one who had not taken a shine to Haruka was the ever stoic Hanabi. Ever since Haruka had joined the household, the attention she had gotten from her father had been lacking. Hiashi was even spending more time with Hinata, even though he had always claimed that she was better then her older sister! She constantly frowned at the little girl, smirking to herself when the child flinched or shook.
Both Lee and Neji were suddenly snapped out of their reverie. Haruka’s sandal caught under her foot, causing her to stumble and fall on her face at the hills ending decline.
“Haruka!”
Neji sprinted towards his daughter, fearing she might be hurt. Hinata quickly shuffled down towards them while the rest of the team followed after Neji. Haruka struggled to get up, her front slightly dirty. That was a nasty scrape on her knee that was starting to bleed, but it was evident that Haruka was forcing back her tears, not wanting to look weak to her father.
“P..Papa….I hurt myself….”, she sniffled.
“Lemme take care of that,” Ten Ten cooed. She pulled out her first aid kit to take care of her scrape. While Neji pulled out a handkerchief. Dampening it with his water bottle, he wiped the small specks of dirt off her face.
“You have to be careful, Haru. Daddy, doesn’t like to see you get hurt.”
“I’m sowwy, Papa!!” she wailed. Flinging herself onto her father, she bawled into his shoulder. Ten Ten was just glad she had been able to get the band-aid on before she whacked her.
“It’s not your fault, sweetie. But try to be careful. I don’t want you getting all banged up.”
“Never fear! You shall never fall again whence in our presence!” Gai proclaimed loudly.
“Gai Sensei! You are the epitome of virtue!!”
Neji rolled his eyes while still holding onto his daughter. He used his kerchief once more to wipe away her stray tears. Bringing himself down to her knee, he gave a quick kiss to the band-aid covering her open wound.
“Is that better?” he asked her sweetly.
She nodded.
“Then give me a kiss too.”
Haruka leaned her pudgy face in to kiss her father on the cheek.
“I luv you daddee.”
Neji beamed.
“Same here, baby.”
Neji’s face dropped when he heard sniffling behind him. Gai and Lee were currently in a hug.
“Oh, the beauty of parenthood!! If only Sakura-Chan would have my children!!”
“It is indeed wonderful!!”
Neji sweat dropped at the two in front of him and heaved a sigh.
“Uncy Gai!! Fly me! Fly me!!”
“At your request, M’lady!”
Neji laughed, not surprised at his daughter complete change of attitude. Slipping his hands around her waist, Gai flung her up in the air, spinning her around like an airplane.
“WHEEEEEEEEE!”
The group laughed at their antics.
{They never change}
~~~~~
Neji felt a slight tug from behind.
“Papa…I’m sleepy…”
The sun was starting to set after it’s long day filled with training and fun. After lunch, Haruka and Hinata had stayed to watch Team Gai train. Haruka had wanted to train as well, but Hinata held her back saying “When you join the academy you’ll get as much training as you want”.
Neji stopped walking, turning to pick his daughter up in his arms.
“You’re getting big, Kiddo.”
“Will dat mean I get to go to ‘Cadmy soon?”
Hinata patted the girls head.
“Soon enough. You’ll get there soon enough.”
Haruka rested her head on her father’s shoulder, falling into a light doze. The cousins started along their trek once more, heading back to the Hyuuga compound. Hinata glanced at her elder cousin.
“You do want her to go to the Academy. Don’t you Neji-Niisan? If I was out of line by saying so, then-?”
“She wants to go to the Academy. Why should I deny her?”
He couldn’t deny being excited that Haruka wanted to go to the Ninja Academy. Although she was lighthearted and faire, she had a strong spirit and was amazed by the ninja arts.
“She should go to the Academy, Hinata-San. After all..,” he readjusted his hold on the sleeping toddler, “ ..she is a Hyuuga.”
Hinata smiled happily at her cousin as they walked through the gates of their estate. The two of them continued to chat, not realizing that someone was watching them in the shadows.
Hanabi scowled as she watched her sister and cousin carry the blonde girl off to bed. It deepened when her father came to meet them, the three of them chatting happily. Hanabi felt as though she was going to explode when she watch Hiashi give the sleeping girl a kiss on the forehead.
{Mark my words! I will get that kid out of this house and out of our lives!}
She tightly clenched her fist, gritting her teeth.
{I will never let that girl carry on the name of Hyuuga!!}
