The Chemicals Between Us
Sasuke sighed, pressing the pads of his fingers against his forehead, his other hand flipping a few pages over. It had been a full week since his half lunch with Iruka and all he had done since then was work.
"Sai!" He called for his assistant.
The short haired man came into the Uchiha's large office, carrying a stack of papers. "Yes?"
Sasuke looked up at the smaller male. "Where's the copy of their signed agreement? It's not here." Dark eyes glanced back down at the stack of papers in front of him.
"I'll go get another," Sai quickly darted out of the office, the door clicking closed behind him.
Sasuke shook his head and closed the folder, hiding the offending paperwork under the manila covering. He stood and backed away from his desk ready to retrieve a soda out of the machine down the hall when his cell vibrated in his pocket. Pale fingers wrapped quickly around the device and flipped it open.
"Hello?" Sasuke addressed the man on the other line politely, walking over to the large windows that aligned one walls of his office, giving him a wide view of the city, as they spoke.
The man excused himself a few minutes later after boring stock information before hanging up. Sasuke pushed the end button and was about to close his phone when he noticed the tiny phone receiver icon on the top of the screen. He went to his missed calls and noticed two from a number he didn't know, but knew the area code was inside the city.
Sai opened the door and walked over to Sasuke's desk and setting down the paper the raven had requested a little while before.
Sasuke quickly glanced over his shoulder at the other. "I need you to look up a number for me." He waited for Sai to walk over and read the number off his phone.
"Alright." Sai answered cheerfully then walked out of Sasuke's office again, leaving the raven to stare out of the window at the city for a few minutes longer before going back to work.
Sai was soon distracted by Neji's girlfriend as she sat herself down on the edge of his desk and crossed her long legs. The dark haired man smiled for no reason as he took his seat.
"Hello Miss Beautiful," he said.
Sai didn't really think she was beautiful of course, but if he called her that enough, sometimes she'd go away early without yelling.
"Is Sasuke in his office?" She pressed her finger under Sai's chin, lifting his face so the well dressed man could see her cleavage perfectly.
"He's working." Sai's dark eyes rolled under pale lids as he reached for the phone book, not wanting to call information, at least this way he'd have a bit of easy work for a while.
The blonde slid from his desk once the man didn't give her a second look, scoffing lightly as she wiggled her way towards the Uchiha's office.
Ino knocked once on the door before walking in without waiting for permission. She smiled fully as she sauntered over to Sasuke's desk, a coy look on her face.
"Oh, I thought for sure Neji would be here," she laughed lightly, cocking her head.
Sasuke glanced up from what he was writing.
"Why would he be in here when you knew that he's on site?" his tone was cold and flat.
"Oops, my mistake," the woman said as she took a seat in one of the chairs across from The Uchiha. "Would you mind keeping me company then?"
"I have work to do. You can wait for Neji outside." Sasuke pointed the back end of the pen towards his door, dismissing the pestering bleached blonde.
"But your creepy assistant keeps looking at me and smiling like an idiot," Ino complained as she crossed her smooth legs.
"Sai is gay, so I doubt it." Dark eyes darted up to see the woman picking at her nails.
The blonde rolled her eyes and tossed a flirty look in Sasuke's direction. "Well anyone could tell that just by looking at him. It just makes it creepier."
"Hn." Sasuke went back to writing, effectively ignoring the blonde until she spoke again.
"You're too busy all the time," Ino leaned forward to rest her elbows on her knees and display her cleavage. "How will you ever find a nice girl to date if you're always behind that desk?"
Sasuke reply was short, and snappy. "I'm not worried about it."
He never looked up, knowing exactly what the woman was trying to do. The blue eyed girl narrowed her sharp gaze, suppressing a growl of annoyance.
"But Sasuke...people are starting to talk about you," she said slyly.
"Ino." Sasuke finally looked up, dark eyes narrowed. "I don't care. Get out."
The blonde made a rude snorting noise and got up from her seat in a huff, glaring at the billionaire. "You don't have to be so cold!"
Sai came in before she left, giving her a wide and extremely fake smile that made the woman shudder.
"Uchiha-san," he said happily as she narrowed her eyes at him. "That number was for Umino Iruka."
Ino blinked. "Professor Iruka?"
Sasuke took the post-it he was offered, the dark haired man having written down the professor’s home number as well as his cell and work numbers. The raven ignored Ino's comment and looked up at his assistant.
"That's all for now," he dismissed them both.
Ino raised a sculpted brow. "What do you want with a Language Professor?"
Sasuke eyed Ino before going back to writing, Sai pushing past the blonde to return to the work he had been doing before. The woman curled her lip in disgust before storming out. She had class with a certain professor in an hour anyway. She might as well get some answers from him at least.
Sai peeked back into the Uchiha's office.
"Make sure to tell Neji." Sasuke said not looking up for the papers. The other male nodded and left the stoic Uchiha alone.
"Ino you've never had problems in my class before, what exactly do you not understand about the assignment?" Iruka asked kindly as he sat behind his desk.
The blonde had come to him after he'd finished his lecture and the class was emptying out. Never one to ignore his students, Iruka invited her back to his office when she'd asked for help. Ino smiled slyly as she sat down on the edge of the desk, wrapping a strand of hair around her finger.
"Professor," she uttered smoothly. "I was wondering what was going on between you and Uchiha Sasuke...."
Iruka adjusted his glasses and frowned lightly. "You've been gossiping with Anko-san haven't you?"
He rubbed the bridge of his nose, wondering how many people already knew they had gone out.
"Nothing's going on between us, if that's what the others sent you to ask," he said strictly.
Ino blinked at his tone, not expecting it. The brunette had been in a bad mood for the last week. He'd called twice and even though he knew Sasuke was a busy man, being ignored for this long gave him the wrong idea.
"Did you sleep with him?" Ino asked quickly.
Iruka blushed a furious shade of red. "Ino-chan! No, now stop this, I don't make it a habit of talking to my students about my personal affairs!"
The blonde knew when to run and she did so, getting out of the way in case the usually docile professor started feeling like he wanted to yell at something. Iruka sighed, already feeling guilty for being so harsh and packed up his briefcase and went home.
After all the incoming paperwork and a presentation to a few smaller companies who had been expecting to be speaking to anyone else but Uchiha Sasuke himself, Sasuke finally got a small break. His presence alone seemed to rattle a few people's integrity and any hostility they had harbored before.
He was on a small private company jet, heading back toward Konoha, the pilot diving down as they were about to land when Sasuke pulled out his phone. He highlighted the professor’s name in his contact list, having added the numbers to his phone's memory earlier on in the flight.
Neji and Sai were talking quietly between themselves, the Uchiha was sure of the topic, as the short haired man had explained about Ino as they were boarding the plane earlier without their clients.
Once they were off the plane Sasuke hit call, hearing the ring from the other line.
Iruka ignored his cell after seeing who it was and making sure to turn off his answering machine in a spiteful way as well. He adjusted his glasses and glanced up, watching his assistant fix some light bulbs he hadn't been able to reach.
Lee was tall and muscled and extremely polite. He didn't have the extremely handsome looks that Sasuke did, but he was still appealing to look at. Of course Iruka would never say that to him, he didn't think of the younger man in that way. No matter how many times Anko suggested they get together for a one night stand.
She was in his apartment too, lounging on the couch as she flipped through a magazine, casting longing glances in Lee's direction.
Anko was known throughout the staff to have a tendency to sleep with her students and Iruka often found himself protecting Lee's dignity by reminding the promiscuous professor that he already had a girlfriend and that Sakura would maim the older woman if she knew.
Sasuke hung up when Iruka’s voice mail picked up, giving a quick glance over his shoulder at the others. Neji was dialing Ino's number while Sai pleaded with the long haired man to be nice. The Uchiha punched in Iruka's home phone number, remembering it from the paper Sai had handed him earlier that day.
"Who's calling you that you don't want to talk to?" Anko asked in a bored tone not looking up from her magazine.
"Uchiha Sasuke," Iruka mumbled, not bothering to lie as he jogged up the stairs to help Lee.
The woman blinked widely and then grinned as she rushed to the now ringing house phone to snatch it up, moving so that Iruka couldn't see what she was doing.
"Umino Iruka's residence, how may I help you?" she simpered as she picked up the phone.
"Is Iruka there?" Sasuke asked, easily picking up on the woman's tone as he entered the airport.
A bustle of photographers and reporters waited for him, taking pictures and asking questions all at once, the noise making it harder for him to hear the brunette’s coworker.
"Oh he's extremely busy with an attractive man..." Anko sneered rudely. "Here...let me see if I can pry him away."
She held up the phone in the direction of the two men standing on top of the professor's bed. Iruka was grunting with the effort of trying to reach the light fixture, Lee helping to steady him as they both grappled with the bulb.
"Lee, that's too big, it won't fit," Iruka said as the tall boy tried to fit in a bulb that was obviously three times as large as what it was supposed to go into.
"Iruka-san!" Lee grunted. "Would you move to the side just...yes, that's better. Just let me try to push it...!"
"Lee it won't fit!" the professor scowled. "Trust me, I've done this before."
Lee frowned. "Should we try to pop it in from another angle?"
"No, just let me do it, hold me steady."
Sasuke shook his head remembering Iruka said he would get his assistant to help him change the light bubs.
"I can wait until he’s finished. It sounds like they are almost done anyway."
He looked up, giving the photographer in front of him an ominous glare that left his features completely unmarred, other than a slight crinkle to his naturally perfectly shaped brows.
"Or if you'd inform him I calle-" Anko interrupted Sasuke.
"Oh, I wouldn't want to bother you," the woman said, already bored and picking at her nails. "I assume you're very busy if it takes you a week to return a simple phone call."
"If creating jobs is being busy, then yes, I was." He answered in a flat tone, climbing into the back of the limo waiting for him, Neji, and Sai.
"Blah, blah..." Anko rolled her eyes. "I'll be sure to tell him you called."
"Yeah." Sasuke snapped his cell closed, receiving a questioning look from both Neji and Sai.
"It's nothing." He answered before they pulled away from the curb.
Anko snorted and hung up and turned around to watch as Lee steadied his mentor with his large hands on the smaller man's waist while Iruka put in the new light bulb. She grinned and sauntered over to give her own version of help, quickly pushing the Uchiha out of her mind.
Sasuke yelled for the driver to stop, opening the door a few blocks from the professor’s apartment building.
"Where are you going? We have a meeting at eight." Neji stated.
"That's two hours from now, I'll be there."
He climbed out of the car and slammed the door behind him; the driver taking off once Sasuke ducked down and told him to. He walked, hands in his pants pockets, to Iruka's building. The doorman recognized him and letting the Uchiha in. Sasuke took the elevator up to the higher floors, leaning against the back of the metal car.
Iruka brushed a stray lock of hair that had escaped from his loose ponytail as Lee went on and on about his glorious future fiancé.
He had surprised them both when he'd deemed them worthy of his secret, popping the glittering engagement ring from his pocket with careful fingers.
Anko had started laughing immediately and Iruka had been quick to praise the younger man. Lee's chest swelled up with pride as they complemented his new purchase.
That was half an hour ago.
Now Iruka was tying his hair back into a neater knot as Anko roared with mirth while he and Lee tried to get the ring off the taller man's finger. The poor bowl cut boy had been convinced by Anko that he should try it on and he had actually cried when it became stuck.
The woman snorted with laughter and stood up to answer the knocking on the thick metal door. She opened it widely when she saw who it was through the peephole, glancing over to where Iruka had run out of ideas and had just slipped Lee's finger into his mouth, loosening the ring's hold with spit and trying to ease it off with his teeth and tongue.
Sasuke's eyes were already narrowed and seeing the woman he had spoken to on the phone be just as rude to him in person gave the stoic man another reason to be glaring.
"Is he here?" Sasuke asked flatly, the woman not having asked him in, and being the man he was, he wasn't just going to walk in uninvited.
Anko pointed as she opened the door wider and leaned against the frame, giving Sasuke a clear view inside.
"He's busy," she said with a rude smirk.
Iruka made a few muffled noises, trying to calm the taller boy down as Lee blushed, watching his professor's lips work over his finger.
Sasuke peered around the threshold of the door, seeing the smaller man with another man's finger in his mouth, brows furrowed in concentration.
"I'll wait." Sasuke leaned back so he was standing straight again, eyeing the woman.
Anko snorted, "Iruka!"
The brunette looked up as he slipped his lips from Lee's hand, eyes widening in surprise as he spit out the engagement ring.
"Sasuke?" he asked.
Lee took the offered ring with a wide grin, thanking the professor profusely and promising to run as many laps and errands as he could between doing any tasks Iruka could ask of him.
Sasuke didn't move from where he was standing. Dark eyes locked on the smaller man's as Iruka straitened, heading over to the door.
Anko stared back and forth between them before deciding to go see if she could convince Lee that the ring would definitely fit on his other fingers. Iruka put a hand on the heavy door, adjusting his glasses with the free one as he raised a questioning eyebrow. His stomach fluttered at the sight of the Uchiha, but he ignored it.
"What are you doing here?" the brunette asked.
"Apparently you aren’t getting your messages. I called to apologize for not returning your call sooner."
Sasuke eyed Anko as she talked to the green clad man who was furrowing his large brows in concentration as she spoke. He looked back at Iruka.
The professor stared back.
"I turned off my cell and Anko turned of my answering machine," he said a bit stiffly, dropping his gaze to the side.
Iruka didn't appreciate being ignored for a week and then being asked to forgive the treatment. He felt bad for being rude, but he didn't feel like being told to directly that nothing was happening between them and that would he please not talk about it to the reporters. Anko was good at getting her voice stuck in his head and he rubbed his scar to hide his scowl.
"I would have called but I was completely surrounded. I do owe you a lunch." Sasuke said in a less bitter tone, softening the glare that he had earlier.
Iruka tried to hold onto his displeasure a bit longer, but found he was unable to with the taller man's smooth voice surrounding him. He noted the sincere tone and was unable to stop his smile from spreading across his lips.
"I think you owe me a diner instead," the brunette said, adjusting his glasses again as he met Sasuke's glance.
Sasuke's lips curled upwards slightly.
"Dinner it is." He glanced over at the loud sound, the boy sporting the bowl cut was crying again.
"Just when you aren't....busy." An elegant brow arched when Lee came running towards them.
Iruka narrowed his eyes and puffed up.
"Anko stop doing that!" he snarled, planting his hands on his hips.
Lee bowed his head as the smaller man started chastising him, his voice becoming muffled as he dived on his assistant's finger again. Anko quickly started laughing and Lee frowned at this, proclaiming his love for Sakura and telling the older woman that this would not set him back!
Iruka sighed and glanced over at Sasuke as his tongue worked on surrounding the long digit, coating it with saliva. He blushed a dashing shade of red as he watched the Uchiha eyeing his mouth.
"There is an ...easier way to do that." Sasuke said moving his eyes back up to Iruka's, noting the blush both he and the other had.
Anko was laughing while walking back over to the couch, having had her share of amusement with the whole thing.
"Iruka-san suggested running it under cool water, but I was afraid it would fall down the drain," Lee explained as he shifted nervously.
They stared at each other for a few seconds before the taller man brightened suddenly.
"We've not been introduced!" he exclaimed. "I am Rock Lee, Iruka-san's assistant at the University. Are you perhaps a student of his?"
Sasuke looked the other over. "No, I'm not a student." He answered. "Uchiha, Sasuke." He stated, knowing the boy couldn't shake his hand at the moment.
Iruka pulled back with the ring between his teeth. He plucked it from his mouth and handed it back over to its owner.
"Lee, please don't try putting it on again?" he asked lightly.
The taller man nodded firmly as he took the ring and put it in his pocket.
"Yes Iruka-san!" he said with determination. Iruka smiled as his assistant sprouted flowery words and left before turning back to Sasuke.
"Sorry about that," he grinned. "Do you have time to come in?"
"For a little while." Sasuke glanced down at his watch before stepping into the apartment, Iruka closing the door behind him.
Anko eyed the raven cautiously before turning back to the TV.
"She was just leaving," the smaller man said pointedly as he adjusted his glasses.
Anko snapped her head around, looking distinctly affronted. She opened her mouth to argue, but Iruka's glare cut her short and she scowled before getting up.
"Fine, when he doesn't call you again then don't complain to me," Anko bit out before starting to leave.
The brunette sighed and walked into the kitchen. "Do you want anything to drink?"
"No, I'm fine, thank you." Sasuke answered following behind the smaller man, Anko slamming the door behind her.
"As I said, Dinner is yours when you have the time." the taller man reaffirmed the professor as he waited by the breakfast bar while Iruka got himself a glass of water.
The brunette shot an annoyed glance at the door after Anko left before sighing and leaning against the opposite counter, facing Sasuke.
"I'm usually free on the weekends," he grinned wryly. "I think it depends more on when you're not busy."
"I would have called sooner..." Sasuke paused when his phone vibrated in is pocket but he decided to ignore it. "I have a meeting at eight tonight. After that, I'm free."
"I'm free tonight as well," Iruka frowned lightly, his expression growing worried. "But I don't want you to ignore your work for me Sasuke."
"The Hyuuga wouldn't let me." Sasuke answered. "If you'd like, I'll call you once I'm out of the meeting." he added with a slight questioning arch to his brow.
The smaller man nodded with a smile and walked forward to lean against the counter closest to the young billionaire. "I'd like that."
Pale lips curled up into a small smirk.
"Alright." Sasuke nodded, liking how the professor scooted slightly closer to him. "Anywhere in particular you'd like to go?"
"I decided where we ate lunch," Iruka said lightly. "You should get to pick this time. It's only fair."
"Alright." Sasuke nodded again in agreement then shifting so he was facing the smaller man completely.
The brunette smiled as he walked around the Uchiha, retying his hair in a tighter ponytail as he started cleaning up the mess of magazines Anko had made. He wanted a kiss from Sasuke, and guessed that the younger man probably knew it, but Iruka wasn't about to ask for it.
The Uchiha followed Iruka into the living room, standing by the end of the couch. He watched the smaller man clear off the plush sofa, stacking the magazines up on the coffee table.
"I do have a place in mind." Sasuke waited for the brunette to turn around and face him.
Iruka sat down on the plush couch, shifting comfortably as he looked up at the younger. "Oh? Is it in the city?"
"It is."
Sasuke sat down after the professor gave him a soft nod saying it was alright. He left enough space between them so the smaller man wouldn't feel crowded in his own home.
"It's a small place, good food."
Iruka wasn't used to taking the initiative, so he didn't move closer like he wanted to and instead wasted a few seconds with cleaning his glasses. "What's it called?"
"Hanaoki." Sasuke answered shifting as he got a bit more comfortable on the plush cushions. "Unless there is somewhere else you'd prefer." Dark eyes looked the brunette over.
Iruka smiled. "I said it was your choice didn't I? I've been there before and I liked it."
"Alright, Hanaoki is it." The raven turned more towards the other. Sasuke’s phone vibrated in his pocket again and he quickly slid his hand into it, shutting the device off.
"If you need to go, I won't be angry with you," the brunette lifted a brow in amusement.
Sasuke sat up, looking at his watch. "I still have a bit, that was probably just my driver, letting me know he's waiting."
Iruka frowned in concern. "The reporters aren't going to follow you here are they?"
Sasuke shook his head, "I don't think so, there's a premiere downtown."
Iruka glanced away and adjusted his glasses. "I'd rather not read about myself in the tabloids if you can help it at all."
"I can understand if you would rather not go. I have no control over what they do." Sasuke leaned forward, his brows furrowed slightly.
The professor looked up with a smile, blushing faintly. "No, it's alright. Anko's probably worse then the tabloids anyway."
Sasuke chuckled before turning to the smaller man. "Possibly, though I'm sure that blonde went to the press already..."
"Blonde...?" Iruka asked.
"Ino." Sasuke replied. "I believe she's a student of yours."
The brunette blinked in surprise. "Yes she is, what does she have to do with this though?"
The raven wasn't one for bad mouthing people. "It's nothing. She was just in my office." he answered.
Iruka didn't press the matter, though he waned to. It seemed he wasn't doing a lot of things he wanted to tonight. He shifted into a more comfortable position, tucking a leg underneath his body as he leaned back and stared at the TV.
"When will your meeting end?"
"I'm not sure, though I assume it will be short since it's late." He looked up at Iruka, the other's brown eyes glued to the TV, though the sound had been muted.
The smaller man adjusted his glasses nervously. "Would you rather meet at the restaurant?"
"Alright." The Uchiha agreed knowing the professor would be less likely to be hassled by the press this way and it would give Sasuke a more pressing reason to leave. "I'll call ahead and tell them you're coming."
Iruka nodded in relief and stood up, fixing the sweatpants higher around his waist as he walked into the kitchen so he'd have something to occupy his hands with.
"Are you sure you don't want anything to drink?" he called as he got himself a soda and a glass of ice.
The brunette knew perfectly well that he was acting like a school boy with no experience but Sasuke threw him off a bit.
Sasuke stood, walking into the kitchen after the smaller man. "Whatever you're having is fine." He slid onto one of the stools at the breakfast bar.
Iruka fixed another glass and slid it to the Uchiha. He propped himself up on the same counter, leaning the small of his back against it as he stared at his drink.
The professor shook his head and laughed at himself, glancing over to Sasuke. "I'm sorry, usually I'm not so tense."
"It's alright. I don't mean to make you uncomfortable." Sasuke took a long sip of the dark, carbonated liquid.
"You don't," the brunette said with a small grin. "At least, not in a bad way."
Pale lips curled into a sly grin before the glass was pressed against them, Sasuke taking another drink. "Good. I'd hate for our dinner to be cut short."
He glanced at the clock on the microwave, noting he only had about forty-five minutes before the meeting began. Time seemed to be going faster than it felt.
Iruka chuckled and tossed Sasuke a playful glance. "Diner could be cut short for other reasons," he quipped.
"It could." Sasuke smirked over the rim of the glass, eyes watching the brunette closely.
The professor's gaze widened in surprise at the invitation he'd just put out as well as the answering reply.
His blush spread quickly and he turned away before it could fully spread. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be so forward."
"It's alright." The Uchiha set down his now empty glass. "I hate to cut this short…" His eyes were on the digital clock.
"Your meeting," Iruka looked back. "It's alright."
The taller man slid from the stool. "I'll call you." He added to his previous statement, Iruka setting down his glass before the two walked toward the front door.
The brunette opened it for the other and smiled warmly. "Until then I guess."
"Until then." Sasuke stepped past the brunette, giving the other a second glance over his shoulder before continuing down the hall to the elevator as the smaller man closed his heavy door.
Iruka rubbed his scar as he slid the lock in place, rolling his eyes at his nervous behavior before starting to undress on his way to the shower.
Neji gave most of the presentation with Sasuke only having to give the figures and minor details he had been reworking for the past week. After their brief report their clients asked to be left alone and the men were now sitting in the sound proof room discussing their decision.
Neji and Sasuke were waiting outside, watching them through the glass.
"Don't even think about it." Neji warned.
Sasuke turned to look at the other man. "Don't think about what?”
"Skipping out on me. I have plans too." The Hyuuga turned to look the raven in the eye.
"Then go." Sasuke answered.
The pearl eyed man looked at his boss surprised. "Excuse me?" He wasn't sure he heard Sasuke correctly.
"Go." Sasuke repeated. "Before I change my mind."
He glanced back at Neji through raven bangs. The slightly shorter man didn't question the Uchiha again.
"Thanks." He pushed off from where he was leaning on the desk next to Sasuke, to make his way to the elevator.
Once Neji disappeared from sight, Sasuke straightened from the desk, slipping back into the room as he was waved at.
Iruka suppressed a sigh as he glanced at the large clock hanging on his wall over the TV. It was nearing midnight and the restaurant had no doubt closed by ten. He rubbed his eyes tiredly, having not gotten a call for a rain check.
Anko had come to sit with him an hour earlier. She didn't say 'I told you so', but the small man knew she had wanted to. Instead she had only remarked that at least he wouldn't have to go out and buy condoms. She then had left.
It was Saturday and her boyfriend-for-the-night at least knew when to call her.
Iruka wasn't used to not being pursued more aggressively and wasn't sure if this was Sasuke's way of telling him he didn't want a relationship or not. At this point the brunette was ready to settle for a one night stand. Just not for someone who was too busy for him.
The professor rubbed his temples and changed out of his clothes, giving it up as a lost cause. Staring at the phone wasn't going to make it ring, and Iruka didn't want to call Sasuke because the man was probably extremely busy. He took off his glasses and turned off the lights, trying not to sigh in disappointment as he slid into bed.
Sasuke pressed the call button as soon as the last man had exited the room, growling in annoyance. It was really late. The line rang a few times before Iruka's voice mail picked up. Sasuke hung up and hit redial, heading for the elevator.
The brunette burrowed further under his blankets and pillows, wondering why his dream suddenly had an annoying buzzing sound mixed in with it. A few minutes later and he realized it was his doorbell, ringing throughout the large apartment, echoing off the walls.
Iruka groaned, knowing it probably Anko coming in from her date to check in on him before she took Mr. Right-Now back to her place. He didn't really feel like getting up and watching her and her choice of man sneak gropes on each other, but he knew how stubborn his friend could be.
The professor sighed dejectedly and pushed himself out of bed, grabbing a shirt on the way and throwing it on to hide the fact that his pajama pants were two sizes too big. He flicked on the lights and pushed on his glasses, frowning as he saw the time.
One in the morning was a new record for Anko, usually she was out much later. Iruka jogged down the stairs, rubbing his face to wake himself up before fixing his disheveled ponytail.
"I'm coming," he called sourly.
The brunette unlocked the door and pulled it open, blinking in surprise at his unwelcome guest, his mood not improving.
"Oh," he glanced at Sasuke. "I thought you were Anko."
The Uchiha wasn't offended by the other's tone. "I owe you two." He held up the bag containing food from the restaurant in it. "Though I'll understand if you'd rather not..."
Iruka closed his eyes and pulled open the door further while stepping to the side. "It's...I'll just have to get used to it."
Sasuke noted the professor’s choice of words as he slipped in past the smaller man and headed towards the kitchen. The brunette frowned and closed the door. Mostly he had let Sasuke in because he was hungry and tired and those factors seemed to play with his reasoning.
He joined the Uchiha in the kitchen and started getting them drinks. The food smelled delicious and Iruka glanced into the bags to see what Sasuke had brought.
Sasuke noticed Iruka had two glasses, getting them both some iced tea. He lifted the boxes from the bag, opening them once they were all out: fried rice, beef, chicken and vegetables as well as shrimp and a few dipping sauces.
"I hope this is suitable." He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a bottle of Sake, setting it down on the counter.
"Isn't it a little late for that?" Iruka asked, giving the younger a wary look.
"Save it for another day." Sasuke took the glass he was handed.
The smaller man frowned, trying not to blame the Uchiha for his foul mood as he picked a take-out container and went into the living room. He sat down heavily on the couch, crossing his legs over the cushions before turning on the TV.
Sasuke stared at the area the professor had just been occupying before turning around, feeling his welcome had been over stayed.
Snatching up his long coat Sasuke headed for the door. "I hope you enjoy the meal."
Iruka's frown deepened before he sighed and set down his carton, standing up and taking a few steps toward Sasuke.
"No, you don't have to go," he said rubbing his scar. "I'm sorry for being rude."
The taller man stopped, looking Iruka over. "It's alright, I understand your frustration." Dark eyes watched every move closer the brunette made.
Iruka adjusted his glasses and smiled with guilt as he scratched the back of his head. "Well yes, but you had a good reason and I shouldn't have held it against you."
"If you'll let me, I'll make it up to you." Sasuke shifted his coat into his hand, lowering it so the garment wasn't between them.
"Of course I'll let you," the brunette said earnestly. "You can start by eating with me. You must be just as hungry as I am."
The Uchiha nodded, letting Iruka take his coat and put it up while he retrieved the other take out boxes and his glass from the kitchen then joining the smaller man on the couch.
"What are we watching?" He lifted a brow as Iruka got more comfortable.
"Infomercials apparently," Iruka said as he shifted closer to the Uchiha.
He flipped passed cartoons and commercials for stronger, longer lasting erections, trying to find something to watch before just deciding to order a movie. After a few minutes of both of them were trying to figure out the complicated remote with Iruka laughing at their failure. They looked up when the channel suddenly changed.
The brunette's smile vanished in an instant as a heavy blush took over. The text over the screen read: 'Scheduled program now playing'. Two men were moaning with pleasure as they screwed over the back of a black leather couch.
Sasuke slid the remote from the brunette’s lax grip, arching a brow at the position the next couple was in before changing the channel to one of the late night movies on a regular station. He cleared his throat, setting the remote on the coffee table in front of them.
"Anko..." Iruka gritted his teeth and shut his eyes tight.
His so called friend must have programmed the TV while she was there earlier, thinking the small man might need a pick-me-up if Sasuke didn't show.
The brunette's entire face was a brilliant shade of red as he stared fixedly at the screen. He just wouldn't look at Sasuke for the rest of the night. It certainly didn't help matters that the man that had been bottoming looked a bit like Iruka.
Sasuke noticed the smaller man's discomfort. "Is there anything else you'd like? I should put the Sake in the fridge...."
The professor leapt at the chance to busy himself and went into the kitchen quickly. "Did you want anything more?"
He glanced at the sake. It was a good brand, one that he had tried and found he liked very much before. Iruka rubbed his scar nervously, closing his eyes for a brief moment. He was going to kill Anko in the morning.
"Sasuke...maybe a few drinks wouldn't hurt," he suggested, looking for something to calm his aching nerves.
"I'll have some as well." Sasuke shifted on the couch as Iruka passed him with two glasses and the bottle of Sake.
He looked up at the brunette with a sly grin on his lips. "Thank you." Slender fingers curled around the glass he was offered.
It took only two cups of the warm sake for Iruka to get over his embarrassment and he had once again shifted closer to the younger man. Their thighs now brushed against each other as the professor leaned deep into the plush cushions while they watched the movie.
The younger man was previously aware of Iruka's low tolerance. Once the smaller man seemed to be more relaxed, Sasuke scooted his glass just out of reach. The Uchiha was still eating the last of his meal, having had much more of the slightly sweet liquid himself.
Iruka leaned his head against the Uchiha's shoulder, a low blush spreading over his cheeks from the alcohol as he got more comfortable. He shifted until his legs were folded at his side, stretching his arms out before wrapping them around his stomach, slowly growing drowsy as the movie ended.
Sasuke shifted to put his now empty carton on the table, Iruka lifting his head as the raven moved then settling back against the couch with the remote, turning off the TV.
"I'll help you to bed." Sasuke shifted again, turning to face the smaller man.
"Anko's the one that watches porn you know," Iruka pointed out coherently as he was pulled to his feet. "Not me. At least not with company."
An elegant brow arched with the almost random statement. Iruka took a step and fell against him.
"Mmm,” he responded, lifting the smaller man into his arms instantly deciding that carrying him would be much easier.
The brunette smiled widely as his feet dangled over Sasuke's arms. "Why didn't you kiss me?"
Dark eyes dropped down to look at the professor as Sasuke made his way up the metal stairs. "When?"
"Before you left for your meeting," Iruka muttered as he shifted his gaze. "I wanted you to kiss me and you didn't."
The raven laid Iruka down on his bed, pulling the covers back and then over the smaller frame. "I wasn't aware that you did." Sasuke replied in a deep whisper.
"Sleep with me," the brunette said. "You have to be tired."
Sasuke was taken aback by the professor’s choice of words. "Are you sure?"
He wasn't about to take advantage of the intoxicated brunette, instead Sasuke planned on driving home once the smaller man was asleep. Though, in his own inebriation he had forgotten that he had had a few too many drinks and opted to sleep on Iruka's couch until he could drive again.
"I'll stay on the couch."
The brunette furrowed his brows and grabbed Sasuke's wrist, pulling with his weight to make the taller man slip forward on top of him in the bed. He closed his heavy lids and swept his glasses off his face, hearing them clatter onto the floor a few feet away. Iruka shifted under the Uchiha's body, enjoying the warmth that spread through him.
"Make it up to me," he reminded as he pulled away, rolling from under the billionaire. "Sleep here."
Sasuke blinked a few times, making sure that he had heard the other man correctly. Iruka tugged on his wrist again, reaffirming the Uchiha that he had heard the professor just fine.
"Alright."
With the simple agreement, Sasuke's wrist was released. The taller man turned to remove his shoes, sitting down on the edge of the bed to do so. His suit coat was lying over the back of the couch where he had placed it earlier while they were eating.
Iruka shifted under the blankets and tossed off his shirt, moving onto his side as he watched Sasuke undress. The taller man took off his shirt as well, setting his watch and wallet on the bedside table before pulling off his socks.
The brunette's blush turned to one of arousal as he watched Sasuke's back and shoulders flex with every movement. When the Uchiha laid back, Iruka let his gaze fall shut, listening to Sasuke's movements as he rubbed his face against the pillow and drifted off.
The younger man lay under the covers, Iruka's regulated breathing almost hypnotic to him as his eyes slowly closed. With the smaller man already snoozing next to him, Sasuke shifted again getting more comfortable in the plush bedding before allowing himself to fall asleep.
