Chapter Thirty-Two
The interrogator headed for the Kazekage's office, intent on filling Gaara and Raidou in on the events of the day. “Ah, Kazekage-sama,” he said with a bow. “I need your help.”
“Of course Hatake-san,” the redhead replied. “What can I do for you?”
“I need to take Kakashi back to Konoha. He can't stay here any longer. Would it be possible for you to spare some guards for the trip. I'm a bit nervous about traveling overland with 'kashi unable to fight,” Ibiki explained.
“Why are you leaving? I thought Kakashi was confined to bed?” Gaara asked. “Certainly nothing is worth risking the lives of your husband and child?”
“There was an 'incident' at the hospital this evening,” the scarred man hedged. “'kashi finds it untenable to stay there any longer. He wishes to be in his own house, so that's where we're going.”
“What type of incident?” the Kazekage probed. “Did someone harm Hatake-san?”
“Apparently the doctors got their hands on a DVD that used to belong to the Mizukage. 'kashi was the featured performer,” the interrogator gritted out. “He can't stand the thought of dealing with anyone who's seen it, and I can't blame him.”
“We may have a problem then,” the redhead admitted. “Raidou found them selling those DVD's in the market yesterday. We confiscated as many as we could. He's in Konoa now, apparently something similar has turned up there.”
“We can't go home then.” Ibiki decided. “What am I going to do? I promised we'd head out tomorrow.”
“You could call Iruka and see what they've found out,” Gaara suggested. “If not Konoha, perhaps you could go stay with Itachi for awhile. Then Kakashi would be present for the birth of his other child.”
“True,” the interrogator agreed. “But Itachi and Jiraiya are fighting about something and he doesn't need the stress. Besides, I believe Kisame may be the source of the problem to begin with.”
“You think Kisame is the one circulating those DVD's?”
“It's certainly a possibility. After all, he worked for the Mizukage and the recording is from his private collection,” Ibiki explained.
“I don't know what to suggest,” the Kazekage admitted. “Can you think of any other viable options?”
“None that provide for adequate medical care,” the interrogator explained. “Let me think about it for a little while. For now, I suppose I'll tell 'kashi we're still making arrangements.”
“That ruse won't hold up for long.” Gaara tapped his fingers on the desk as he tried to decided what to do. “Bring him here for now, no one will bother him inside the palace. If they try, it will be the last thing they do.”
*^*^*
Kakashi shook his head hard enough to make his hair stand out in a smokey cloud. “No, I want to go home,” he insisted. “Moving back to the palace won't change the medical staff. We need to leave Suna. After the baby comes I'll be happy to come back and visit, but I can't stay here now. I feel like a sitting duck.”
“There's a little problem with heading for Konoha,” Ibiki temporized. “I thought perhaps we'd head to Oto for a visit first. I know you're worried about Itachi.”
“Mmhmmn, what aren't you telling me?”
“Nothing?” the interrogator ventured, shoulders slumping at the withering gaze the copy-nin sent his way. “Fine. Apparently some DVD's have shown up in Konoha also. I don't want you to feel threatened while you can't defend yourself.”
“I can defend myself just fine,” Kakashi snapped. “You're the one who lacks confidence in my abilities. I just don't want to stay here. Now, are you going to take me home, or do I need to get Genma or Iruka to help me?”
“You can be a real prick sometimes,” Ibiki muttered angrily. “I'm getting a bit tired of having my head bitten off every time I try to help you.”
“But you're not trying to help me,” the copy-nin insisted. “All you're doing is trying to protect me. It isn't the same. I want to go HOME. Not Oto, not anywhere else, home. Either take me there or get out of my way so I can find someone who will.”
“Who else do you think would put up with this shit?” the interrogator bellowed. “I spend my life walking around on my tiptoes trying not to upset you. I was better off on my own.”
“Fine, as you wish,” Kakashi spat. “I'm sure Kurenai will be glad to travel with me. I assume you'll have your things moved out by the time I arrive.”
“You can't travel all the way to Konoha with just Kurenai,” the scarred man insisted. “You won't make it out of Suna.”
“Thank you so much for your confidence,” the jounin hissed. “Do you think I'd risk the life of my friend and my godchildren if I wasn't confident it would be alright. I don't know why you think I'm suddenly useless. I'm sure I can still kick your worthless ass.”
“'shi-kun, what's going on?” Kurenai asked warily. “I could hear you two all the way down the hall.”
“Ibiki won't be traveling with us,” the copy-nin declared coldly. “So the trip should be a lot more enjoyable. How soon can you be ready to leave?”
“Uh, the twins are still asleep,” the kunoichi stammered. “They should be up and fed around eight I guess.”
“Wonderful,” the copy-nin declared. “I'll see you then.”
Kurenai tried to surreptitiously signal Ibiki to meet her outside. “I'm going to go call 'suma and let him know we're headed back . . . if that's okay?”
“Of course it's alright. It should only take about three or four days to reach the village,” the copy-nin explained. “The kids will enjoy the sights. They have no idea of the places they've traveled teleporting all the time.”
“I'm sure you're right 'shi-kun. I'll see you later.” The minute the door swung shut behind her Kakashi fixed his husband with a withering glare.
“Why are you still here?” he asked coldly. “I thought you were tired of all my demands? I think you should go figure out where you'll be staying.”
“I'm not going anywhere, sweetheart.” The interrogator leaned close to plant a kiss on a pale cheek, only to be thwarted when Kakashi twisted out of reach.
“Fine, I'll stay with Kurenai,” the jounin grumbled. “Or maybe Genma and Iruka will take me in.”
“They will not,” Ibiki growled. “You are not going to stay with them.”
“I'll stay wherever I like.” The copy-nin crossed his arms and turned his back on the irate torture master, heading into the bedroom to start packing.
“I'm still talking to you,” the interrogator snarled as he grabbed a bony arm and spun the jounin around to face him. “You are my husband, and I'm not letting you run off to stay with someone else.”
“Letting me, letting me, you don't own me asshole,” Kakashi shrieked. “I'll do as I please and you can learn to live with it.”
“Sounds good to me,” Ibiki exclaimed. “I'm out of here.” He slammed the door on his way out. The copy-nin watched the flakes of plaster drift down from the crack that blossomed across the wall, unable to stop the tears that trickled down his face.
“Fine, just great, I don't need you,” he shrieked at the empty room before throwing himself on the bed and sobbing as if his heart would break.

“Otokage-sama,” the interrogator began deferentially. “I need your help locating Kisame.”
Itachi desperately tried to orient himself. There had to be a good reason why his sometime lover's husband was in his bedroom, in the middle of the night, dripping blood everywhere.
“You're bleeding,” the Uchiha noted. “Would you like a medic?”
“No, just Kisame,” came the angry retort.
“I need to know what's going on,” Itachi insisted. “Where is senpai? Does he know you're here?”
“He threw me out,” Ibiki explained. “Are you going to help me or not?”
“What do you mean he threw you out?” Jiraiya piped up from the bed. “Where the hell is he now?”
“Still in Suna, although he and Kurenai are leaving for Konoha in the morning,” the interrogator explained. “Do you know where Kisame is or not?”
“He doesn't stay here anymore. He's been living with his lover Zetsu, I'm not really sure where,” Itachi explained. “He usually drops by in the morning, I'm sure you could catch up with him then. May I ask why?”
The torture master related the events of the evening, leaving out any details of the scene on the DVD. “So you see,” he continued earnestly, “Kisame worked for the Mizukage, and this is from his collection. Add to that the tension between he and 'kashi and it's clear he's the only logical suspect.”
“I'm afraid senapi has many enemies. Still, it does look suspicious,” Itachi agreed. “Let me show you to a guest room for tonight. I promise we'll get all this straightened out in the morning.”
The interrogator headed for the Kazekage's office, intent on filling Gaara and Raidou in on the events of the day. “Ah, Kazekage-sama,” he said with a bow. “I need your help.”
