Chapter4

/* AN: The fourth chapter of my rapidly growing Naruto fanfiction. At this point I'm going to be getting more into the story arch so if you're here for the smut, check in a few chapters from now and I'll post a warning in my Author's Note. Either way, be sure to review, it's what helps me pump out the story faster. ^^ Reviews are my fuel, and the more I get, the further I can go. ^^ */

*DISCLAIMER: I do not own any of the characters in Naruto. If you have a problem with male/male content then you probably shouldn't read this story as it will eventually be coming to that.*

Lexicon:

Icha Icha Paradise: Come Come Paradise, Flirting Paradise, whatever you want to call it. It's the naughty book Kakashi is always reading.

Moshimoshi: The way a telephone tends to be answered in Japan, it's very colloquial.

Dobe: Literal Translation is Dead Last.

There was a loud banging, trying to tempt Naruto from his deep sleep. Incessant banging. It almost sounded like a door. It wasn't until it stopped and he heard a small pop next to him that he knew there had, in fact, been someone at his door, and that someone had been Kakashi.

“Ne, Kakashi-sensei, why are you here?” Naruto cracked open a single eye and looked up at his teacher with his sleep-bleary blue eyes.

“It's ten o'clock.” The silver-haired man simply stared at the boy on the bed.

“Ten?” It took a few moments for the words to penetrate his sleep-muddled mind. “WHAT?!” Naruto sat bolt upright before promptly regretting it. “Oh god, my head,” he groaned and held his head in his hands.

Kakashi knelt down onto his knees to be eye level with the blond and the grin was visible in his eye, “Too much to drink at Sakura's party last night?”

Blood rushed to Naruto's cheeks. “No,” he hastily answered, “I was training last night; I lost track of time and I never made it to the party. Ask anyone.”

His sensei's expression quickly changed to a much more worried look. “You used up all your chakra... even Kyuubi's. What were you doing last night?”

Naruto search for a moment before dragging up a suitable response: “I was perfecting a jutsu.”

“Well, we're not leaving for the mission for another two days. Tsunade-sama sent Gai's team on ahead of us when Sakura and Sasuke reported that you didn't show up at eight.” Kakashi ruffled the blond's hair. “Take it easy for the next few days. You look like you need the rest.”

“Hn.” Naruto seemed lost for a few seconds, “Ne, Kakashi-sensei?” Kakashi smiled in acknowledgment. “Did Sasuke seem ok?”

The silver haired man seemed confused by this. “Sasuke was Sasuke. Sakura was Sakura... Although she was rambling about how she and Sasuke were meant to be more then normal...” The older man trailed off and pulled out his copy of 'Icha Icha Paradise' before turning and walking away, disappearing in a could of smoke.

Naruto flopped back into his pillows and groaned loudly, “I have to talk to Kiba.” The blond blinked at his ceiling a couple times. “After I sleep some more.” He rolled onto his side for a few more hours of sleep.

The phone rang its generic tone in Naruto's ear while he leaned against the counter in his kitchen. “Moshi moshi? Inuzuka residence.”

“Hello, could I speak to Kiba, please?” Naruto hopped up onto the counter and leaned on the cupboards.

“One moment, please.” Kiba's mother put down the phone and called for her son. A few seconds later Kiba's voice came over the phone, “ Moshi moshi?”

“Hey, Dog-boy.” Naruto grinned.

“Hey, Fox! How'd last night go?”

“It was... different. I used all my chakra though, and now our mission's been pushed back.”

“Well who's fault is that?”

“Mine, I suppose... Hey, listen. I told Sasuke you were Naruko's cousin, so if he asks, just say she lives a few towns over or something.”

“I don't have any cousins.”

“So? I'll be in shit if he finds out it was me.”

“Okay, okay. You owe me one though,” Kiba paused for a second. “Listen, I gotta go train with Akamaru; did you want to come?”

“Nah, Kakashi said I should get some rest since I used too much chakra last night.” He scowled. “It's like being grounded or something.”

Kiba laughed. “Yeah well, I'm off. Give me a call when you get back.”

“Sure thing.” Naruto hung up the phone and laid his head back against the cupboards as well. “You might be in deep shit, Naruto.”

He hopped off the counter and returned the phone to the receiver. He turned to go look over some scrolls when there was a knocking at his door. He turned back and curiously looked through the peep hole. “Shit.”

“My name's not 'Shit,' dobe.” Sasuke's voice came from the other side of the door.

“My name's not 'dobe' either, asshole.” Naruto swung the door open. “What do you want?”

“I came to make sure you were alive. It's not like you to not show up for a mission, and you weren't at the party last night either.”

Naruto swallowed nervously, “I was training last night and lost track of time. I used all my chakra; that's why I didn't show up. You can leave now.” He made to close the door in Sasuke's face.

“No.” Sasuke caught the door as it was flung into his face. “I don't believe you. You were more excited about this party then anyone, said you had some huge costume planned. Where were you really last night?”

A faint blush colored his cheeks to see the Uchiha worried about him. He used it to his advantage, “Are you, the Almighty Uchiha Sasuke, worried about little ol' me?”

A scowl graced the paler boy's face. “Of course not. Just curious is all.” He crossed his arms over his chest.

“Odd, you're supposed to smile at jokes. Besides, I'm fine. I perfected a jutsu last night, that's why I was gone for so long and why I have no energy today.”

Sasuke smirked. “Sure. Whatever, dobe.” He turned and started walking away as he waved over his shoulder.

“See ya later, asshole! You better be ready for me the next time we spar!” Sasuke started to turn to say something, but Naruto slammed the door so he wouldn’t get the last word in. Naruto grinned and headed back to his bedroom to get some more rest.
