Chapter 5

Sleeping Arrangements

There was a brief silence after Gaara had sighed. The sleeping arrangements had been talked about by the three of them, but had yet to be discussed to with the Kohona Ninjas.

“Well about sleeping arrangements.” Temari began as she hopped and sat on the counter. “We only have three bedrooms, and three beds. So what we had agreed, if you would also agree to this …” ‘Oh here it comes.’ her mind told her. “Is that one of you sleep in each of our rooms.” she just continued, hoping that they would listen to the end. “Gaara has a bed, that he never uses. I have a heavy duty cot, and Kankuro,” shoots him a glare. “Agrees to …”

“I agree to share my bed.” Kankuro said. “No matter who I’m bunking with, we can be grownups. It’s a big bed, so there’s room.”

“So, are we to choose among ourselves who will sleep with who?” Sasuke asked the Sand siblings.

“Yes, that’s what we’re hoping you’d do.” Temari said.

Sasuke looked to Naruto and Sakura. He had no idea who’d he bunk with. Or for that matter, who he’d want Naruto or Sakura to bunk with. On second thought, he wanted Sakura to bunk with Temari. ‘Yes that’s my goal. Is to get Temari and Sakura to bunk in the same room.’ eyes Kankuro and Gaara. ‘Even though they have changed, they are both men … and I don’t trust them with Sakura.’

“Your open to choose any room.” Kankuro said. “Except …”

“Except, I will not allow the Uchicha to ‘bunk’ with me.” Gaara stated flatly, his tone held no room for argument.

“Okay.” Sasuke said.

“Why don’t you three talk it over, the three of us will start on…” Temari looks at the time. “The three of us might as well start on dinner.” ‘Wow, where had the time gone?’

Team 7 watched the three of them walk over to the kitchen, then they themselves settled on their place to sit. Naruto and Sakura sat on the couch as Sasuke sat on the edge of the coffee table.

“Okay, so what are we going to do?” Naruto asked.

“I don’t want Sakura staying with one of the guys.” Sasuke said, looking right at Sakura. “I don’t feel comfortable with the idea.”

“Neither do I.” Naruto said, honestly telling his feelings.

“Well neither would I but …” Sakura began. “A ‘heavy duty cot’ doesn’t sound like it be too pleasant for me … you guys can sleep on anything anywhere and be perfectly fine.” looks down as if ashamed. “I don’t do that well.”

“Hmm.” Naruto and Sasuke both sounded. She did have a point, and years of camping and Inning to back that up. She had never had problems with their missions but this would be for a long time, and a long time of not sleeping well would create difficulties.

“Sasuke, you can’t be with Gaara, and Sakura can’t be on a cot, so that leaves you with Temari.” Naruto figured.

“Hmm, that’s true.” Sasuke muttered. “Guess Temari’s mine.”

“So Sakura, it’s your choice, Gaara or Kankuro?” Naruto asked gently.

Sakura furrowed her brow, she didn’t want either, but; six months on a cot. That just wasn’t going to be happening. “Let me think it over for a bit.” Sakura said already deep in thought. “I promise I’ll tell you after dinner.

“Okay.” Sasuke said as he patted her shoulder. “You’ll think about it until then.”

Sakura nodded. ’Once again I’m the problem.’ she thought. ’No, that’s not it. They only want the best for me, and it’s not like me not bunking with Temari made them upset. They just didn’t want to see me sleeping with one of the boys. But I’ll be fine, Kankuro and Gaara agreed to do this too. It’s not like they’d hurt me. Their good guys.’ Sakura closed her eyes in thought, there were so many different things to consider. But then it came down to one simple question, and that question only had one answer. Which one of the two would she actually be able to sleep with or around? ’Well I have my answer. I’ll tell them after dinner, so they can’t make a fuss about it being too fast or anything.’ she doubted that they actually would do anything like that, but she just wanted to make sure.

A couple hours later, with the three of them napping together on the couch, dinner was ready. Sasuke had told them that they were going to rest together, and that they would know who would be with who after dinner. As well that they wanted to be woken once dinner was done.

“Come on, up n’ ‘attem.” came Temari’s voice sweetly. “You asked me to wake you up when dinner was ready right?”

“Yeah, thanks.” Naruto said as he stood and stretched.

Sasuke and Sakura followed suite, then the three of them headed together to the table.

“Wow, it smells great.” Sakura said.

“Yeah.” Naruto managed his voice passing the pooling drool in his mouth.

Everybody sat around the nice dark wood table. Upon it sat ham and steak, along with assorted desert vegetables that none of them recognized. Nice tall glasses of water stood near the plates, that had a starting helping of food on each. Everything was amazing, it felt like home.

“Thank you very much.” Sakura said with a smile at the siblings. “This is so great.”

“Your welcome. We are hoping that there will be leftovers.” Kankuro said as he eyed Naruto.

“I know that I could eat it all. But I also know I can’t and I shouldn’t.” Naruto said as he rubbed his chopsticks between his hands. “Having not eaten too well yesterday, and none today, I have to take it easy.”

The siblings actually looked blankly at Naruto. They were realizing that he had really changed in certain areas.

“I am going to eat.” Naruto said, as he looked at them, making sure that he wasn’t going to be the only one.

“I’m going to eat.” everybody said as they started eating.

Dinner came and went. Everybody had gotten their fill, but hadn’t had to much. Which, despite his speech, Naruto had nearly done. The Kohona ninja’s were tired, and the siblings could tell that much.

“So who’s sleeping with who?” Temari asked, not wanting to rush them, but she really did want to know who had who. Or more importantly, who she had.

“I’m with you Temari.” Sasuke said. He could see the semi-surprise cross her face, but that melted away into a pleasant smile.

“Okay.” she said as she looked between Sakura and Naruto.

“I …” Sakura began. ’Okay we’ve thought this over for hours. We’re sure of our choice. Arighty then? Yeah alrighty then.’

“I’ve chosen Kankuro.” Sakura said looking at the older male.

“Alright.” that was the last thing he had expected. She’d rather sleep with him in his bed than sleep with Gaara in his room.

“Sooo, that leaves me with Gaara.” Naruto said pointlessly. “Hey we’re bedroom buddies!”

“I’m overflowing with glee.” Gaara said with a steady look that matched his deadpan voice.

“Everybody fine with who they’ve got?” Temari asked, wanting to be considerate to her little brother.

“I’m fine.” Gaara said flatly. He knew that the question had been aimed at him. He was fine with the whole thing. It’s not like it bothered him, he knew it would have only some years ago; but now it was okay.

“Alright, I guess we should turn in.” Temari said with a yawn. “Wow, I’m tired as well.”

The six of them headed up the stairs with Temari in the lead. Once in the hall team 7 saw their bags lined up against a wall. They each picked up their bags and waited patiently.

“Sasuke, the room is the one on the left, Naruto yours is first on the right, and Sakura yours is at the end.” Temari instructed. She watched as the boys stepped forward to their doors, then watched as Sakura made her way down the hall.

“Uhh, Kankuro?” Sakura asked somewhat shakily. “Can I quickly change in the room?”

“Yeah sure.” he said. Just open the door when your done.” he watched her nod then disappear into the bedroom. ‘Well wont this be an adventure.’ he thought as the boys also closed their doors. He watched disconnectedly as Gaara opened up the door Naruto had just closed and walked in.

“Hey what are you doing?” rang Naruto’s voice. “I’m trying to change.”

“We are both men. You have nothing I have not seen before.”

Kankuro and Temari held in their snickers.

“Just not Gaara’s day today is it Kankuro.” Temari said quietly, knowing if she spoke any louder she would burst into outright laughter.

Temari watched as Sasuke came out of the bedroom wearing only dark sleep shorts. “I hope you don’t mind.” he asked as he walked past her into the bathroom.

“No of course not.” Temari said as she watched him. ‘Wow, he’s good looking too.’

Kankuro was about to snort something when he heard his door open. He watched as Sakura hesitantly walked out. She quietly skittered down the hall on her toes, toothbrush in hand. He caught her blush, as did Temari. When he looked to his sister, she had a raised eyebrow. He gave her a tired face, trying to show that he wouldn’t do anything. The last thing he wanted was for the next year to be uncomfortable and awkward just because he did something stupid.

“Sakura you okay?” Sasuke asked as he finished cleaning up.

“Yeah, sorry; just a little nervous.” she said honestly.

“Well you know where Naruto and I are okay.” he hugged her tightly across the shoulders. It had been years since he’s seen her look so uncomfortable. “We’re right here.” he said quietly as he kissed her cheek gently.

“Thanks Sasuke.” Sakura said as she smiled broadly. She knew that the kiss was to help her relax, that’s what they all were for nowadays.

Quickly she brushed her teeth and used the facilities, then headed back towards the bedroom. Not wanting to embarrass herself she darted inside quickly.

“AH!” Kankuro said as Sakura came in.

“AHH! I’m so sorry!” Quickly she left the room and shut the door again. ‘Damn it, damn it, damn it!’ her mind scolded. ‘Way to get off on the right foot.’ she told herself. ‘I wonder if he gets off … pshhhh! I wonder how MANY times he gets off.’ Inner Sakura added. ‘Stop it!’ Sakura told herself. When the door opened again, she just wanted to die right then and there. Would have given ANYTHING to be assassinated right there.

“It’s okay.” he said with a comforting smile. “I think this’ll be the most difficult on you, so don’t worry. I’m not upset.” Kankuro said as he patted her on the head gently.

Sakura watched as Kankuro made his way to the bathroom which Temari had just vacated.

“Good night everybody.” and with that she disappeared into her room with Sasuke.

“Don’t give me that look.” came Naruto’s voice as he walked out into the hall.

Gaara believed that he would kill Uzumaki Naruto in his sleep. Within seconds his room was already a mess. He looked down the hall idly at Sakura, all decked out in what he knew his sister would call ’cute’ pyjamas. ’I bet she doesn’t cause messes.’ Gaara thought as he looked at Naruto waiting patiently for the bathroom.

“Gah!” Kankuro exclaimed as he opened up the bathroom door.

Had Gaara had a camera, he would have taken a picture of Kankuro’s face when he saw what Naruto wore on his head.

“I’m going to bed.” was all Kankuro could muster. As he turned to go down the hall, he saw the flash of pink disappear into the darkness of his room. ’It’s going to be a long night.’ he thought as he shot his little brother a look. “Everything will look better in the morning?” he tried.

“Morning will have a lot less blonde it if he keeps it up.” Gaara muttered under his breath.

“Just hold out one night okay, he’s just excited.” Kankuro tried as he patted him on the shoulder. “Good night Gaara.” a little bit louder. “Good night Naruto.”

“Gwed neegt.” Naruto said as he opened the bathroom door, toothbrush in his mouth.

“Good luck.” he mouthed to his brother. “And no killing.”

“I hate you.”

“I love you too Gaara.” and with that Kankuro went to his own room.

“Okydoky.” Naruto chimed as he dashed into the room. “Hehehe!” ’I get a bed all to myself.’ he thought happily.

“Make any obnoxious noises tonight and I’ll kill you.” Gaara said.

“Huh?” Naruto asked, having not heard him.

“Nothing.” Gaara mumbled as he shut the door. “Good night.” he said as he went over to the chair that he meditates in.

“G’night!” Naruto said as he jumped onto the bed and almost instantly started snoring.

Gaara twitched.
