I do not own Naruto, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
first exam
Someone left a flame, but had not the balls to leave his address, or say if he’d written anything. Oh well. And to ease confusion, Akatsuki is one word, not a contraction; it means dawn, not red moon, though if you think about it, the two might be synonymous.
On to the story.

Ino, Gaara, and naruto sat in a corner of the exam room. It was filled with Genin from other countries. But most of that was unnoticed by the three.
Gaara was meditating, as he always did. Ino was spacing out, her mind on the morning.
She had not been pleased to wake up in the arms of The blond rammen junkie. She had been even less pleased when she realized that he had not moved from his position on the opposite edge of the futon.
Still, it hadn’t been bad until she fully woke up.
Naruto was staring at a single person in the crowd. He had black hair, pale skin, and dark eyes.
He looked like a younger version of his brother.
Uchiha Sasuke
The self styled Avenger was standing with two of the sound from the chunin exam years ago. Kin, the girl with the bells, and Zakku, who had apparently had his arms repaired.
The three were talking to a new face, who was also wearing a sound headband.
Sasuke looked around, then said something to the stranger, who pulled out a deck of cards.
So that’s why the new kid has no team, its Kabuto in a henge.
With a poof of smoke, Ibiki and the other examiners appeared.
“Alright brats, take your seats for the written exam!”
Naruto quirked his face.
Don’t tell me they have the same exam every year.
Ibiki explained the rules of the test, they were the same as the first time Naruto and the other genin had first taken the exam. Needless to say, they all sat through the first part of the exam doing nothing.
Then again, who wouldn’t, as the first question went like this.
How many kunai would a kunaichuck chuck, if a kunaichuck could chuck, kunai?
Eventually, the time came for the final question.
“Alright, I will now ask the tenth question.”
Most of the genin were hanging off hs every word, but a large group, thinking they already knew what was going on, were barely listening.
“The tenth question will be a competition within the three man teams you’ve worked with.”
At this, naruto perked up, he had heard this before, but where.
“The three of you will compete for the tenth question, but of the three of you, one will fail. Those who fail will remain genin forever, and will never be allowed to take the chunin exam again.”
Whispers were going through the crowd, but of the group who had taken the exam before, only Naruto was paying attention.
That’s right, Idate told me about this, but the others wont know. I guess I’ll have to show them how it’s done then.
He grinned, waiting for Ibiki to finish his intimidation.
“It is also an option to give up, and take this exam again in six months. Of course, if one person on your team gives up, all three of you fail.”
Ibiki looked up, grinning.
“Now, does anyone give up?”
A few people left, but none of the ones Naruto was interested in.
Here goes
He slammed his hand on the table, drawing everyone’s attention.
“Oi, you think the great Uzumaki Naruto would cast aside a friend for a stupid promotion! You’ve got another thing coming! I quit!” And with that, he stood up, and walked out the door.
Sasuke was torn, Orochimaru had promised to let him go after his brother if he won the exam tournament, but one of his teammates…
He looked at kin. In a fight between the three members of the team, she would lose, and be a genin forever.
He stood up, wordlessly; he walked out of the room.
Chouji looked at his two teammates, Sakura was a student of the great Tsunade, she would be fine. But Ichigo, he was a rookie, graduating a month before. If it came to a competition within the team, he would be left a genin forever, his dreams crushed right out of the academy.
He stood up.
“I’m out.”
Neji didn’t really care about the words Naruto had spoken. A genin in Konoha could still gain prestige; even go on A ranked missions if they were good enough. Rather, it was the fact that Naruto, the one who never gave up, the one who had defeated his perfect defense, had quit.
He still had that stupid grin on his face. And he winked, then gestured to follow him.
He thought back to his fight with Kidoumaru.
Following Narutos way got me through before, might as well trust him again.
He got up.
“I give up.”
Shino was generally called emotionless, but he did care for the other male on his team, in his own fashion.
“I give up as well.”
As the teams of those who had quit left, Ibiki grinned.
That kid inspired them to the right course, again, what a guy.
The Genin left to see Naruto leaning against a wall, calmly ignoring Gaaras stare, and his other teammates screaming.
A teammate many of them recognized. Especially Chouji.
“Ino-san, but, I though you were kidnapped by the…”
“Akatsuki, right.” Interrupted Naruto.
They all looked at Naruto, come to think of it, HE had been reported lost to them as well, years ago, as had Gaara.
“What are you three doing here?” the question was on everyone’s mind, the one to voice it was just the loudest.
Gaara was the one to respond, scaring the shit out of most people.
“Did you not hear, dog, the Akatsuki is now officially recognized as the village hidden in the dawn. We are here as the first genins from the new village to take a promotion exam.”
The conversation was interrupted by Ibikis shout from inside the classroom.
“All of you who remain, FAIL!”
