“LEE LET THE POWER OF YOUTH EXPLODE!!!” Gai shouted pumping a fist in the air as the boy struck out at the doll filled with sand.
“YOOOOOOOOSH!!!!” Lee screamed back with just as much obnoxious enthusiasm that would make even the steadiest people nauseous.
After a few more powerful kicks the doll literally exploded sending the grayish grain every where covering the youth and his teacher with the evidence that he had indeed defeated the dreaded doll menace.
“HA HA! Lee you have increased your speed tenfold!” Gai dusted himself off before doing a ‘Nice Guy Pose’ to his beloved student.
“Thank you guy sensei! I shall keep on training until I become a great ninja!” Lee punched the air a few times to imply his point.
“Yes! And to do that Lee I think you should be sparing with your peers more.” Gai turned to Lee and nodded as if agreeing with himself. “Yes I think that would increase your power and strength much more then a training doll could.”
“But sensei who would I-“
*SWHISSSSSSSSSS*
Lee heard the familiar sound coming from behind him and barely had time to dodge a tendril of golden sand as it darted past him and struck the snow covered ground instead.
“Ara?” Lee looked over his shoulder and gasped.
“The only way you’ll get better is with sparing with someone who you’re pretty well matched and requires extreme speed and strength to get through their defenses.” Gai explained in a relaxed manner as he looked at the two opposing nins, remembering back to a familiar scene in a certain stadium. Gai swallowed uneasily as he recalled how a fight between these two had ended before…Lee had almost died.
“I won’t kill him.” Gaara said stoically as he looked Lee over critically before returning his gaze to Gai knowing what the older ninja was fearing. ‘I wouldn’t harm a hair on his head.’ Gaara looked back at Lee and softened his glare slightly.
“Gaara-kun?!” Lee stared unbelievingly at the Kazekage remembering the intimate position they had shared the night prior. ‘How long did we stay like that..?’ Lee had woken up in his bed that morning and had not known how he had gotten there. ‘He must’ve moved me when I fell asleep.’ Lee blushed a tomato red as he thought of it.
Gai quirked an eyebrow at his student at his sudden giddiness and change in behavior. Thinking that Lee was just nervous about sparing with Gaara, an arrangement he had set up with the young Kazekage earlier that day, he slapped Lee on the back and told him that Gaara wouldn’t harm him.
Lee stood there dumbly looking at his teacher then back at Gaara as he finally took in that he was actually going to spar with the other nin.
Gaara smiled mentally on how cute Lee looked just then head jerking from him to Gai, face flushed and bewildered on what he should do. Raising his hand and focusing his energy Gaara thought to make his first attack to get Lee out of his daze.
Lee barley dodged it as the sand went whizzing past his face before it curved around and started back like a tan boomerang. Unfortunately for Lee he didn’t see that one coming… Then sand wrapped around his shoulders from the behind before jerking upward and sending him sky high.
Gaara smirked visibly with his small victory on catching his Lee off guard, which was a feat not many could honestly claim to have done. He would have been more enthusiastic about it if he didn’t notice that Lee had disappeared.
‘Perhaps I threw him out of orbit-‘ Gaara’s mental joke was cut off quickly when he felt a blast of energy from behind him…to late. The Kazekage’s face made contact with Lee’s fist and he went flying in the opposite direction.
Lee panted as he brought his fist back to his chest and smiled as Gaara went soaring through the chilly air before landing in a puff of snow and sand to cushion his fall about 17 feet away. Lee pulled his punch even though he knew all to well that a small tap like that didn’t even faze the other nin, it was just to unnerve him slightly.
Gai smiled approvingly as Lee made the successful contact with his fist but couldn’t help but frown when he realized that Lee had pulled his punch if he hadn’t Gaara would’ve flown a lot further backward. Gai had thought that given the opportunity Lee would like to beat the stuffing out of Gaara for putting him through the hell of recovery.
“How was that?” Lee was in his infamous stance as Gaara got slowly back up on his feet, his face cracking off with sand pieces as he looked up at the green nin with a smirk. It wasn’t insane like the toothy ones he had flashed during their battle in the exams but almost like a proud grin that Lee was taking the sparing seriously even though Gaara was a little angry Lee was going light on him.
‘We’ll have to change that now won’t we?’ He crossed his arms and allowed more sand to flow from his gourd and swirl around him menacingly.
Lee frowned and shook his hand slightly, something was wrong it felt odd like the feeling was dissipating from it. Shaking his head he fixated his eyes back on his opponent and waited for Gaara’s next move like a skilled player at chess.
Something moved underfoot and Lee had just enough time to push off to the left as the sand exploded out from the snow and swerved toward him. Quickly taking out a Kunai, Lee cut off the bulk of it in the middle watching as the dismembered sand fell downward as he was still suspended in mid air. Looking down he saw more of the stuff shooting up toward his feet, unfortunately one cannot ‘swim’ through the air so Lee was helpless at the sand wrapped around his feet.
‘Got you.’ Gaara pulled his hand downward and watched as Lee came spiraling back to earth and finally landing in an explosion of snow. Gaara did not release his grip on Lee but actually tightened it as more sand bound his arms and waist in Lee’s moment of dazed disorder.
Growling as he came back to reality Lee struggled angrily agenized the bonds eyes darting up as Gaara walked calmly toward him. That’s when an idea struck him… it was risky but if it worked Lee would gain two things, winning the sparing match and knowing exactly how Gaara felt about him. Lee quickly laid his head back in the snow and made his expression appear in a slightly hurt manner before closing his eyes pathetically.
‘Looks like the compact knocked him out.’ Gaara thought walking a bit faster toward Lee as a little bit of worry gripped him. His mind flashed back to the exam, Lee’s scream as he crushed his left arm and leg… now Gaara felt a cold sweat break out over his body.
Gai looked nervously at his student as Gaara drew closer and closer, he didn’t know what the redhead had planned but seeing Lee still bound and helpless was making the older nin a little uneasy. But Gai told himself that Lee might have something up his sleeve so he restrained himself from rushing forward to see if his student was alright.
Gaara had finally reached Lee’s form and was trembling as he took in Lee’s face. He quickly released his sand and kneeled down to Lee’s smaller form, he reached out tensely with a trembling hand until his fingers lightly brushed the youth’s cheek when..
“YOSH!!!! THE POWER OF YOUTH EXPLODES WITH SUCCESS!!!” Lee grabbed Gaara’s hand and jumped up dramatically.
Gaara stood there stunned like a deer in the headlights even as Lee flipped him over his shoulder; he was still frozen with shock. He went flying into an oak tree making the snow which covered the branches come crashing down on him burying him in a white heap. Covering him completely which he was thankful for due to the embarrassment of being tricked in such a simple way.
“LEE!!!! YOSHH!!!!” Gai sprinted out on the training field and embraced his student happily as Lee relished in his victory.
Now Gaara was pissed….
*SHWISSSSSSSSSSS*
Sand flew at Gai and Lee had just enough time to push his teacher out of the way and take the hit himself. Crying out Lee went flying back before crashing into a tree himself.
Gaara had gotten out of the snow and after seeing Gai embrace Lee he had been over come by a serge of jealous rage, from Gai touching his Lee and for being embarrassed in front of the one he held so dear. So in a moment of anger he had attacked Gai or had meant to attack….horrified as Lee got a stomach full of his complete strength and wrath.
Pulling back his sand quickly Gaara looked horrified as Lee picked himself up, his green jumpsuit was cut at the abdomen and beneath it ran a long burn like cut across his belly from where the sand had swiped. Lee doubled over and clutched his stomach with a pained moan as blood seeped through his fingers and splattered onto the snow before falling to his knees, he hunched over and placed his other hand in the snow to keep himself from falling on his face.
Gaara realized he had gone to far….
Gai started forward to help Lee only to be thrown back by a wall of sand, looking up he met Gaara’s eyes. They told him silently and deadly….stay back.
Gaara made his sand gently wrap around Lee’s shoulders and pull him back and up to a standing position, more sand supported his waist as Gaara made his swift way to the other boy.
Lee hardly noticed the sand as his arm continued to clutch his belly, if he had been on guard he could have easily blocked such a basic attack but he had been cocky and had claimed his ‘victory’ too soon. Lee only opened his eyes when he felt a hand on his cheek, he expected to see Gai but instead of meeting black eyes like his own he was surprised by orbs of teal that were filled with deep worry.
Gaara didn’t say anything but made a cloud of sand form under Lee as the green nin started to fall back in pain. Gaara walked forward back to Konoha with Lee on a sand cloud at his side, they passed Gai who was to stunned to move from his position on his butt and with a side ways glance from Gaara he was warned to stay out of it.
Gaara looked down at Lee sadly silently asking for undeserved forgiveness and Lee merely smiled warmly, even in his pain and nodded. This however didn’t make the Kazekage feel any better it only increased his guilt as he stopped to lay his jacked back over Lee’s form before he and Lee continued toward Konoha’s hospital.
‘At least now….’ Lee thought as he closed his eyes feeling the warmth of Gaara’s jacket. “I know how he feels about me…’ He then sighed as he passed out into a comforting blackness.
