Pebbles and a New Mission
Over the next few weeks Raven and Hinata meet almost daily for lunch between missions. Sometimes their teammates joined them but most of the time they ate alone. One day as they’re finishing up with their picnic Kiba and Akamaru come racing towards them. “Hinata-chan, Raven-san” The dog-nin says. “Hokage-sama wants us in her office in five minutes.
Raven nods as he begins to clean up after them. “Give me a minute then I’ll take us there,” he replies.
“Sorry but I don’t have time,” Kiba tells him. “I still have to find the rest of your team.”
“I’ve got it covered.” Raven says as he pulls out two red pebbles from one of his pouches. He closes his eyes while holding a pebble in each hand. Opening his eyes he finishes cleaning up. “They’ll meet us there,” he tells them.
“What did you just do?” Kiba asks.
“It’s a system we set up when we became Genin.” Raven answers. “Red means emergency, yellow means urgent, blue means important and white means standard.”
“But how will they know where to meet us?” Hinata asks.
“By the location of the pebbles,” Raven states. “Forehead protector means Hokage’s office, left sandal means by the gates, right sandal means in front of the compound, left glove means hospital, right glove means training grounds, the back of shirt means Academy, and front of the shirt means Hokage Mountain.”
Kiba chuckles, “I wonder what a pebble in the pants would mean.”
“Sapphires room,” Raven answers picking up their things.
“WHAT?” Kiba yells as he eyes nearly pop out of his head while his jaw hit’s the ground.
“Sapphire is always having relationship problems of one kind or another so when she needs to talk about it she puts a pebble to our pants.” He tells them. “Red for breakup, yellow for rejection, blue for new conquest, and white for new crush.”
“Interesting system you three have,” Kiba says rather harshly. “What of your own love life?”
“None of your consern,” Raven answers flatly. “Now grab hold of me and we’ll get going.” Hinata takes his left arm as Kiba grabs his right arm leaving Akamaru to hold on to his right pant leg. With a few seals the four of them fade into the shadows of the tree they were under and out of sight.

As they step out of the shadows and into the hallway outside Tsunade’s office Kiba and Akamaru nearly fall over as a wave of nausea over takes them. Raven holds Hinata up until her own dizziness passes. “Sorry Kiba-kun and you too Akamaru-kun,” she tells them over Raven’s shoulder. “We should have warned you about the after effects.”
Kiba only growls as Akamaru whimpers softly. Raven walks over and opens the door for them. “Shall we go in?”

As they enter the Hokage’s office Raven notices that they are not the last to arrive. A few moments later bot Jade and Sapphire step out of the shadows on either side of him. They give him back the pebbles before taking their places behind him and Hinata.
“Now that everyone’s here we can get started,” Tsunade says as she hands Raven a scroll. “There have been reports of a band of missin-nin terrorizing villages near the border of Fire country and Wind Country. I want the six of you to asses the situation and find a way to resolve it. Normally I would assign at least one if not two Jounin to your team but there are currently none available at the moment. Those not already on missions are required for the defense of Konoha. Raven you’ll be the leader for this mission.”
Raven nods before turning to the others. “Gather enough supplies for three days then meet me in front of the gates in thirty minutes.” They nod before turning to walk out the door. Raven turns back to look at Tsunade after the others leave. “Capture or kill?” is all he asks.
“Because of our treaty with the other villages this will have to be a kill mission.” She tells him. “I’m trusting you to ensure that nothing is left of the bodies for anyone to study.”
Raven nods as he leans against the back wall. “Understood,” he tells her before performing a few seals before fading into the shadows behind him and out of her office.

Five minutes later Raven is leaning against the inside of the gates as he waits for his team to gather. He stopped by his room and added four pouches to his belt before grabbing his thick black traveling cloak, that doubled as a sleeping bag in a pinch. One of the extra pouches contained healing ointment, flint and six soldier pills while anthers contained bandages and the rest held extra shuriken, exploding tags and smoke bombs.
Hinata arrived first carrying a small pack with a change of clothes, a few cooking supplies, healing ointment and bandages. Shino, Kiba and Akamaru arrived next carrying nothing. Sapphire and Jade were the last to arrive, each with the same supplies as Raven.
Raven couldn’t help chuckling at the six of them. “Light it is,” he says before changing back to business mode. “Our targets are a full day away and we’re under orders not to leave any alive.” he informs them. “We’ll travel hard till night fall then camp for the night. Little is known about these missin-nin so we’ll proceed with caution. Now let’s move out.”

The travel quickly through the trees as Raven divides his attention between traveling and watching the bandits they are to destroy. Hinata notices Raven’s distraction and falls in beside Jade to ask her about it. “Raven-kun seems to be distracted is something wrong?”
Jade shakes her head before looking into Hinata opal eyes. “He’s using ‘Shadow Vision’ to observe the bandits’ camp.” she answers. “His mind is linked to the shadows of the forest allowing him to see everything that goes on around and ahead of us.”
“The problem is that the longer he maintains the link and the further he looks the quicker his chakra is used up.” Sapphire adds. “It’s easier at night when there’s nothing but darkness and shadows but during the day,” her voice trails off as Raven signals for them to land.
“We’ll camp here for the night,” He tells them. “Kiba, you and Akamaru will help Shino gather the firewood. Jade, there’s a stream twenty feet south of here see about catching something for dinner. Sapphire, take Hinata with you and scrounge up some herbs and mushrooms to go with the fish. Everyone is to be back here in an hour.” They all nod before heading off to accomplish their assigned tasks leaving Raven to lean against a tree as he sighs knowing what waited them once they reached their destination. “Kami help us.”
