5. The illusion
Chapter 5: The illusion
“Huh? Where am I? Why am I no dead… and all my wounds are gone?” Naruto walked through the knee high grass on the endless green fields. His blue eyes caught a sudden movement to the left and turned towards it only to be stunned at the sight in front of him.
“…. What’s going on? I saw you die… didn’t I?” He stuttered as he stopped in front of the raven-haired figure.
“You are correct, my beloved angel…. This is only an illusion… created with the last remaining chakra from my dying body. This genjutsu won’t be of pain and torture but a place where you will have the time to rest and I’ll have the opportunity to say a proper goodbye to you.”
“Why?” Tears ran down whiskered cheeks as he stood unmoving; staring at his former lover.
“To save you from the pain of my last attack… to allow your body to be calm as the black flames of the Amaterasu will burn inside of you for a week.”
“How is this possible if you...?”
“If I´m already dead? Well…. I´m not entirely sure… but I somehow managed to give some of my chakra to you, that stored enough energy to keep this last genjutsu active for hopefully a week or at least long enough for you to recover.” The Uchiha smiled and softly wiped away the younger blonde’s tears with his thumb.
“Oh god Itachi…. I never meant to… The Kyuubi just took over and launched at Sasuke and….Oh god… you stepped in front of Sasuke… you saved him… didn’t you?”
“I did it for you, because you love him so much .I loved you with all my heart, but no matter what I did… you never stopped loving him more than me. Oh before I forget it…, Kakashi-san sealed your wound and stopped the black flames from spreading through out your body…. And the Sakura-girl saved your life; by pushing herself to the limit to bring you back from the dead… you should remember to thank both when you wake up!” The Uchiha wrapped his arms around the trembling blonde and kissed his golden hair.
“I don´t want to wake up from this illusion… For once I want to stay like this… ”
“You know that’s impossible… besides your friends brought my stupid brother back to Konoha-Gakure… he’s probably already waiting for you along with your friends at your hospital bed.”
“Yeah right… The only thing on Sasuke´s mind is how to get more power and to run away from me… “
“He can’t help it…. You could say It´s my fault because I killed our clan… He wanted to be stronger because I forced him to be… He loves you as much as I did and I think you should give him another chance to prove it to you… after all he followed you and wanted to save you as he thought you were in danger.”
“Why didn’t you let me die out there…? I would happily have left this world with you!”
“Sorry Angel, but I couldn’t allow you to give up that easily… especially because our plan worked… The Kyuubi is gone and my foolish little brother is back where he belongs… right next to you in Konoha!”

“Please wake up…. Please come back to us… to me Naruto-kun.” The pink-haired girl stroke the blonde hair away from his closed eyes and let her fingers grace over the tanned teen’s whisker marked cheeks.
She had grown so attached to the blonde boy throw the years as his teammate. She felt so stupid for drooling after Sasuke for all these years; never even granting the blonde as much as a single smile. Sasuke had never been interested in her or any of the other of the fan girls that always begged for the slightest of the Uchiha´s attention even if they deep down knew that he would never give it to them.
Naruto had always been there for her, protected and caring for her, always begging for the pink-haired girl to look his way so he could show her just how much he loved her.
She wondered if it was too late to ask him to be her boyfriend… Naruto had changed so much after Sasuke had left, after she made him promise to bring Sasuke back to her.
With a sad smile, he had given her the good guy pose and even though he loved her more than life he went to bring the boy of her dreams back to her…. And almost lost his life trying to fulfill that promise.
Once more Naruto had been close to dying to fulfill that promise to her…. To bring back Sasuke…
“Why did you keep on trying? Never willing to give up on Sasuke-kun even after he hurt you so badly…. Was it because of that old promise? No I released you from it a long time ago as I didn’t want to loose you as well…. I wish I knew why he’s so important to you!” Sakura wiped away the tears from her pink cheeks before kissing Naruto´s cold forehead.
“He just can’t give up on people, can he?” The pink-haired medic-nin jumped in surprise at the male voice behind her.
“Gaara-sama?”
“I´m glad that he’s dead or I would have personally ripped that Itachi apart… limb by limb!” He placed his hand on the blonde’s and gave it a light squeeze. “How is he?”
“His wounds are healing just fine… and the cursed black flames died this morning, now he just has to wake up from his coma… so that we can examine him to see if everything is as it should be.”
“How long?”
“I don´t know how long it could take for him to wake… the mind is a fragile thing and sometimes It´s reacting like this to protect itself from the outside world…. Sasuke is the same!”
“It´s that idiots fault’s that Naruto was hurt like this in the first place… suits him just right if you ask me!” Sakura raised her brows at the Kazekage’s remark.
Gaara looked up to the cheerful blonde who had saved his life in more than one way, and he wanted to keep his friend safe from harm. Sakura even suspected that Gaara wanted the blonde to move closer to Suna so he would be able to see him more often. Naruto had been his first real friend who didn’t fear him and believed that there existed something good inside of him even though no one else did.
“Do you think he would mind if I stayed here by his side and talked to him?”
“No I think he would appreciate it Gaara-sama… Sometimes it helps to talk to coma patients…or at least that’s my opinion.” She smiled at him and walked towards the door.
“Sakura-chan… Thank you for saving his life…. I owe you for that… he’s…. my best friend!”
“I guess we have that in common then Gaara-sama… He’s my best friend too!” She was happy that the usually so quiet Kazekage finally began to allow himself to show his emotions so openly.
´Naruto... you really have a way of changing people into something better! ´
