Reckless Hearts

Chapter Five

The months passed by in a blur, one after the other, until Summer vacation was right at his bedroom door. Iruka actually took him off punishment last week, and he was looking forward to seeing Sasuke again, without the restraints.

He'd said mid-July, and it was only a few weeks away.

But he hadn't talked to Sasuke since the night they had phone sex.

"Would you stop twitching?" Kiba sighed for the hundredth time, punching Naruto in the arm because he was starting to get irritated. They were waiting in line for the new Iron Man movie, and the little idiot wouldn't sit still. It was a wonder he hadn't strangled the other boy by now. "God, you're worse than a three year old!" The brunette barked out.

Naruto glowered and hit him back.

"Shut up, man. You know I'm excited for Summer vacation." The blonde grinned.

Kiba fought not to roll his eyes, but it was a losing battle in the end.

"Yeah, yeah. Uchiha Sasuke, the sequel." Kiba muttered sarcastically, his animosity towards the older man growing a little. Ever since Naruto had met the older man, he'd become more of an idiot than usual. It was sad. "Look, dumbass, just let it go for tonight. I want to get through one movie with you not sighing every five seconds."

"I'll try." Naruto said wickedly, flashing Kiba a full toothed grin before moving up in the line to the concessions' stand. A little girl somewhere up ahead cried, and her mother tried to sooth her with a hand on her head. The blonde cocked his head to the side, watching the two as they turned to a man just coming into the theatre. "Holy crap, that's Sasuke's brother!" Naruto hissed under his breath, fighting with himself over what to do next. Hide or check for Sasuke?

"No, it's not. His brother had a ponytail, remember? This guy has short hair." Kiba said distractedly, frowning as he pulled his wallet out of his back pocket. That was another thing that annoyed the brunette. Naruto was too jumpy. "Seriously, Sasuke said his brother wasn't yakuza. I don't think ministers carry guns, anyway."

"You don't know that!" Naruto hissed out.

Kiba rolled his eyes again, and the line moved up once more.

"Did Sakura say why she couldn't make it tonight?" Kiba asked absently, his eyes glancing over the concession menu, and deciding that a large popcorn and a Dr. Pepper was the only way to go. Naruto could pay for his own shit.

"She had a date." Naruto sighed, almost wishing she could be there. It was lonely without her, especially when Kiba was too engrossed in his popcorn to really talk to him.

"You're such a girl." Kiba snickered, reaching over to smack Naruto on his shoulder.

The blonde winced and rubbed the sore spot, ignoring Kiba's comment.

"Let's just get the damn snacks." Naruto sighed unhappily, taking another step up to the counter, his thoughts once again turning to Sasuke and his inevitable return home.

*~*

It was nearing midnight when they finally left the theatre, walking because Kiba had totaled his car a few days ago. Apparently Hinata was very distracting in a mini skirt and a low cut top. Naruto could see the appeal, but he wasn't stupid enough too appreciate it in a car he was actually driving.

Unless he was in the passenger seat.

"So, what's going to happen when Uchiha comes back?" Kiba asked in a subdued tone, not happy at all with the way his thoughts were turning sulky. He didn't like Sasuke, and he had it on good word that Sakura wasn't too fond of him, either.

That was probably a lie, though.

"Well, I can only guess we'll be sneaking around again. Kakashi would kill me if he found out we were still sleeping together." Naruto shrugged, absently fingering the pocket Sasuke's phone was currently in. He'd gotten his own back, too, but he'd left it at home. It was a good thing the phones could share a charger.

"I don't like him." Kiba sighed, tilting his head away from Naruto, because he could feel his friend's glare. "Look, dude. He's just...not your type?" The brunette said weakly, knowing that if he told Naruto the truth about why he hated Sasuke, they wouldn't exactly be friends anymore.

"We've been through this, Kiba. I'm not dumping him just 'cause you and Sakura don't like him." Naruto rolled his eyes and finally pulled Sasuke's phone out of his pocket, making a point of flipping through the contacts just to piss Kiba off.

"Sakura's right, though, idiot. You're still young. You'll get bored of him, like you do with everything else. You'll break his heart, eventually." Kiba said stubbornly, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Just shut up, Kiba."

"You know what, do whatever the hell you want. Don't come crying to me when everything goes to shit." Kiba growled out, abruptly splitting from him at the fork in the road, muttering angrily to himself as he pulled his cell phone out of his pocket, no doubt to call his sister.

"You're a fucking hypocrite, you asshole!" Naruto yelled at him, stomping off in the opposite direction.

He checked Sasuke's phone again, just in case, then shoved it back into the pocket of his jeans.

Naruto couldn't wait to see him.

*~*

"I believe these belong to you." Irkua grunted, as he set a large garbage bag on Naruto's bedroom floor. The blonde grinned as he jumped off his bed, immediately going for his precious cable cords and hooking them up to his TV.

He sighed in contentment before turning it on, Iruka smiling at him from his side.

"You've been good, so we agreed to give you back your stuff." The brunette said happily, reaching down to mus the teen's hair. "Keep it up and Kakashi might give you your birthday present early."

"Eh? He all ready got my present?" Naruto asked absently, setting his TV menu on cable so he could find his channels.

"Yesterday, actually." Iruka nodded, but Naruto wasn't listening. He was now trying to fish his Wii out of the bottom of the bag. Everything else was on top of it. The man chuckled to himself as he pulled Naruto's cell out of his pocket, waving the small device in his foster son's face. "This is yours, too, right?"

"Ah, my baby!" Naruto sighed, grabbing the thing and proceeding to rub it against his cheek. He grinned as he flipped it open, turning it on and not noticing when Iruka silently slipped from the room. He checked a few of his messages, and noticed one of them was from his missing boyfriend from a few months back.

He deleted them.

Naruto jumped a mile high when the phone in his pocket started to buzz, quickly pulling the thing out of his pocket and eagerly flipping it open.

"Sasuke?" He whispered after he answered it, quietly closing his bedroom door so his foster parents wouldn't hear them talking. "Hey, bastard, is that you?"

"You have a very interesting pet name for my little brother, Naruto-kun." A voice that was definitely not Sasuke's chuckled, sending unholy shivers of fear down the blonde's spine. "I had my suspicions about who Sasuke was calling, but I guess this confirms it. You should listen to your parents and leave my brother alone, before you get him into more trouble."

The blonde swore under his breath, and even though he should've hung up right then, he was too angry.

"Big words for a hypocrite, Itachi-san." He said quietly, trying to keep the smugness out of his voice. If anything could unsettle Itachi, this would be it. Maybe then the guy would leave him and Sasuke alone. "How can you sit there and judge us, all high and mighty, when you were the same way with Kakashi at my age?"

"Tread lightly, Naruto-kun. One phone call and Kakashi will be sending you far, far away from my little brother. Perhaps back to that filthy orphanage he pulled you out of?" Itachi murmured back, his voice nothing but cold steel.

Naruto growled into the mouthpiece, "Don't threaten me!"

"He will end up hurting you. I guarantee it." The man said, before the phone went 'click' and Naruto was left with the dial tone.

He snorted as he hung up the phone, and shoved it back into his pants' pocket.

'Bring it on, asshole.'

*~*

Sakura burst out laughing as soon as he told her what happened with Itachi, but Kiba deicded to keep his opinions to himself. It was a good thing, too, because it looked like he wanted to say something unpleasant.

"How is any of this funny?" Naruto scowled, jamming buttons on his own cell phone, sending yet another text message to Hinata's phone, too scared to touch the tainted one in his pocket. He didn't even think the bastard had her phone anymore, seeing as Kiba was calling it twice a day. "Dammit, Sasuke, where are you?" The blonde growled out, fighting not to scream in frustration. The whole point of Sasuke handing over his phone had been so they could talk.

Sakura stopped laughing abruptly, her eyebrows furrowing as she snatched Naruto's phone out of her hand, tucking it into her knee high, rainbow socks.

"This infatuation you have with Sasuke-kun isn't healthy." She said softly, meeting his eyes with determination. Naruto just rolled his eyes and sat back against Kiba's bedroom wall, grinding his teeth together. "I know you won't listen to us, but we're really worried about you. You're not acting like yourself anymore."

He'd finally had enough.

"I'm going home." He muttered under his breath, picking himself up from the floor and dusting off the back of his jeans.

Sakura wordlessly handed him his phone, and Naruto left the room without another word.

His phone started to ring as he made his way down the stairs, and he quickly checked the ID. It read 'Home', so he just tucked it in next to the tainted phone, and shoved his feet into his shoes.

"Naruto, wait!" Sakura called from behind him, taking the steps two at a time to catch up. She latched herself onto his elbow to stop him, her cheeks turning red. "Wait, wait! I have an idea, okay? We don't know Sasuke-kun that well, right? Well next time you're together, we'll make plans to meet or something."

Naruto raised both of his eyebrows in surprise.

"Yes, I'm serious. We'll get to know him better that way." The pink haired girl nodded, squeezing his elbow gently. "If you really like him that much, I guess I can give him a chance."

Naruto grinned so widely, she was afraid his face might split open.

"Thanks, Sakura-chan." He said affectionately, leaning forward to kiss her on the cheek. "Talk to Kiba for me, will you?"

"Promise." She smiled, crossing her fingers over her heart. She patted his cheek before pushing him towards the front door, unsure if she was doing the right thing for him. "I'll call you later!" She called after him, feigning a smile as he disappeared down the sidewalk. As soon as the door closed, she locked eyes with Kiba and he shook his head.

*~*

It was mid-August and Sasuke was still missing in action. Naruto was starting to get frustrated with the lack of communication between them, and he was afraid that Itachi had something to do with it. The older man had threatened him, and he wouldn't be surprised if the bastard had blackmailed Sasuke into staying with him for a longer period of time. Now school was just around the corner and he was starting to think Sasuke wasn't coming back.

*~*

Naruto was pulled roughly out of his sleep by the sounds of something hitting his bedroom window, and it was a sound he was all too familiar with. Kiba liked to sneak him out of the house nightly, and the brunette used the tiny gravel in his driveway to do so.

But he wasn't talking to Kiba at the moment, so...

"Sasuke!" He felt himself grinning, suddenly wide awake as he pulled his curtains back and peeked out the window. Sure enough, Sasuke's car was sitting on the corner down the street, and the man himself was looking up at his window, hands shoved into the pockets of his jeans. He was out of bed so fast, his legs got tangled in his sheets, but he caught himself on the bedpost before he could fall over and wake his foster parents up.

He tiptoed down the stairs, trembling with excitement. He didn't care why Sasuke was gone so long; he just wanted to see the bastard. He knew Sasuke felt the same because as soon as he opened the door, the older man was kissing him like it was going to be their last day on Earth.

"Fuck, I missed you." Naruto breathed in between kisses, pushing his hand up Sasuke's shirt, feeling muscles shift as the raven moved into the house and shut the door behind him. He lifted the blonde until Naruto was wrapped around his waist, and carried the teen up the stairs, nodding when Naruto pointed towards his bedroom.

Sasuke set him down on the bed, kicking his shoes off before he followed Naruto up towards the headboard.

"Still eager as ever, I see." The raven smirked, leaning down to nuzzle his cheek into Naruto's hair, a move that confused the blonde a little. He rolled his eyes and brushed it off, grabbing both sides of Sasuke's face and pulling him back into one of those intoxicating, passionate kisses. The raven just pulled away again.

"Quit it, bastard. No talking right now." Naruto growled out, spreading his thighs wider and thrusting up, smirking when Sasuke's breath hitched from above him. Hands finally started pawing at his pajama pants, a hot mouth found his through the dark, and Naruto reached down to unzip the older man's jeans.

"I turned twenty-four while I was gone." Sasuke muttered against him, rolling one of the blonde's nipples between his fingers. Naruto hissed and shoved his hand into Sasuke's boxers.

"Happy belated birthday, then." He said absently, running his tongue over the other man's bottom lip.

Sasuke, the infuriating bastard, pulled away again, his mouth turned down at the corners.

"Did you hear me, dumbass? I turned twenty-four. That's eight years older than you now." Sasuke told him in a soft voice, stopping to rest his forehead on Naruto's chest, breathing softly against his skin.

Naruto felt his heart sink. He swallowed nervously as he wrapped his fingers around his boyfriend's length, relieved to find it hard still, and slowly started to pump his hand.

Sasuke didn't stop him.

"After tonight, we need to start going on dates." The raven said matter-of-factly, smirking as he leaned back in and proceeded to bring the passionate mood from before straight back.

Naruto wondered if he missed something, but he didn't have time to ask before Sasuke's tongue was invading his mouth again.
