Chapter 6
Overnight Confessions, and Adventures
“Sasuke, you okay?” Temari asked as he rolled over once again.
“Yeah I’m okay actually, just feeling awake. I’m sorry, am I keeping you up?” Sasuke asked as he looked at her.
“No, no of course not. I can sleep through anything.” she said. ’even my boy …’ the thought died as the pain in her heart blossomed again. ’DAMN IT!’
“Temari?” Sasuke asked, having felt the shift of her mood.
“I’m sorry, it’s nothing.” she said unconvincingly.
“You want to talk about it?” he offered.
“Not right now.” she said honestly. “Would you be willing to listen later?”
“Of course.” Sasuke said, with a smile. “I know now that no matter the time, talking about things, no matter how big or small can make a world of difference. To both the teller and the listener.”
“Thanks a lot Sasuke.” Temari said, feeling even more awake. “Hey, how awake do you feel?”
“Very.”
“Wanna play Go Digging?” Temari asked.
“Go Digging … is that anything like Go Fish?”
“Go … Fish?”
They looked at each other for a moment in the moon lit room.
“You have to collect cards …” Temari began.
“Of the same type and …”
“Then can put them down in sets of four …”
“Then once all the cards are gone …”
“You add up how many piles of four each person has and whomever has the most wins.” they finished together.
“Yeah that’s Go Fish, or Go Digging as you know it.” Sasuke said as he stood off his cot.
“Come on sit here.” Temari indicated to the foot of the bed as she scooted back and tuned on the head lamp, then dug the cards out of the drawer. “Lets play.”

Gaara wanted to kill Naruto, but he knew he couldn’t. He watched the sleeping form with narrowed eyes. ’How can a sound that loud come from that body?’ Then he remembered about how his sister would roll his brother over when they would camp when his snoring had gotten far too loud.
He reached out with his sand and rolled the blonde over. He stayed asleep during the whole ordeal and went quiet. ’I could have killed him and he never would have known.’ Gaara thought as he looked at him now. ’Hmm, quiet.’ he thought as he closed his eyes and began to meditate.
Gaara began to enjoy the quiet, and the feeling of the pale star light that shown in through the window. He listened carefully, he could hear Naruto’s light and slow breathes. Beyond that he could hear a slight snapping sound, and Temari’s as well as Sasuke’s voices. “Go Digging.” Gaara heard, meaning that the odd snapping sound must have been cards hitting each other.
The world around him felt light and free as it dropped away. His thoughts getting lost in his own mind, as a grey relaxing fog started to cover him. He could feel the demon within him stir slightly, but with his years; he had grown above it. He had grown to be able to control it, and to recognize when it would talk to him. It was the one that had wanted to kill all the people, had taken delight in doing it. Where as Gaara felt remorse and sadness, especially now; about the ones he had killed needlessly.
He had been able to overcome the demon inside for the most part, and he knew with extended practice with his meditation, he would conquer it’s will. One day he would sleep, not tonight, not tomorrow, but one night in his lifetime, he vowed he would sleep a night. Sleep a night without fear of harming others. Until then though, he would just practice, dreaming about that night.
Something moved.
“Why don’t you sleep?” Naruto asked.
“Huh?” Gaara’s eyes snapped open as he looked at Naruto, who was standing directly in front of him. “How did you-.”
“I’ll stay up and watch over you.” Naruto said, as energy coursed through his body.
“No, it doesn’t work that way.” Gaara said irritated.
“Have you tried it before?” Naruto asked, pressing the issue.
“You’ve seen what happens when I sleep, or have you already forgotten?” Gaara asked darkly.
“I have become stronger Gaara.” Naruto said. “I can make sure that doesn’t happen.”
“Why dose this mean so much to you?” Gaara asked, his voice rising slightly.
“Because I’ve helped you before, and I want to help you again.” Naruto said placing a hand on his shoulder. “Let me, you and I are so much alike.”
“Your helping by being here.” Gaara said in a low voice as he deviated his eyes from Naruto’s.
“Okay.” Naruto said, as he backed up until he bumped into the bed; then sat. “I’m sorry … maybe another time?”
“Perhaps.” Gaara said just to shut him up.
“Okay then!” Naruto smiled largely. “Good night!”
“Sleep on your stomach.” Gaara threatened.
“Oh … haha, I was snoring wasn’t I; sorry!” Naruto said as he flopped onto his stomach and promptly fell asleep.
Sigh. ’What an interesting individual.’ Gaara thought as he closed his eyes and began to meditate again. Vowing that if Naruto ‘woke’ him up again or began making more obnoxious noises, blood would be spilt this night.

Sakura couldn’t sleep. She was trying hard, but with feeling hot and sticky; it just wasn’t coming. Also she was trying very hard not to fidget. She didn’t want to bother Kankuro. And didn’t want to think about him being this near to her. This was the first time in her life where she slept next to a male that she didn’t know. It felt a lot different than when she would sleep between Naruto and Sasuke, or even next to Kakashi.
“It’s okay to move around so you can get comfortable.” Kankuro said as he rolled over onto his side to face her.
“I’m so sorry again.” she muttered quietly. ‘Thank the gods that it’s dark, he can’t see me blushing.’
“Why are you blushing?” he asked softly.
“AH!” Sakura cried as she pulled the sheet up to her face. “How did you know?”
“I could just tell … don’t worry. Like I said, it’ll take time to adjust.” Kankuro favoured her with a smile. “Trust me.”
“Yeah.” Sakura tried. ’God I feel like an idiot. Here he is, letting me sleep in his bed, and I’m all nervous and flustered like a little girl. He probably thinks I’m a dork.’
Sakura sat up for a moment, tiredness and light-headedness coursing through her body. Through very sleepy eyes she saw something in the corner. She leaned forward a moment trying to look right at whatever it was. The movement coming off as heavy and uncontrolled. ’Eyes and teeth … Oh my god!’ she was looking at somebody sitting menacingly in the dark corner of the room. Her heart started to pound as she heavily but still swiftly rolled out of bed, grabbing a kunai from her strategically placed bag and lunged forward. She stopped mid air.
“Sakura.” Kankuro started as he looked at the severely sleep deprived girl. “It’s Crow.” He reached back and turned on the lamp, a pale light filling the room. He could feel Sakura’s shaking and pounding heart through the charka strings that emitted from his right hand. ’Poor girl, all she needs is sleep, even I can tell that much.’ As Kankuro started to get up, to retrieve her from where he had her hanging he could tell that she was on an edge and was about to snap. ’The desert heat really wasn’t good for her.’ he thought as he started to walk past the bed. ’She’s too strong to be unconscious, but not strong enough to not be delirious.’ Although why a girl from Kohona would be able to handle desert heat made Kankuro take back the last of his thought. ’She is strong, just this particular set of circumstances has made her appear otherwise.’ As he reached out to collect her into his arms, Crows jaw dropped; and Sakura screamed.
Kankuro managed to place a hand over her mouth as her body dropped against his. He hoped that they were far enough away from Sasuke and Naruto so they wouldn’t hear.
“Shh, it’s okay Sakura.” he began as he carried her over to her side of the bed. “Come on, just lay down.” she was shivering and covered in a cold sweat. “Sakura?” he asked as he looked at her closely. Now with the light on, he could see the red rimming her eyes. He touched her forehead and drew it back ‘God she’s hot.’
Quickly he went down the hall and opened his sisters bedroom’s door. “Temari, I think Sakura‘s poisoned.” He didn’t even know how, but Sasuke was already past him and entering his rooms door, being followed by Naruto.
“Let me look at her.” Temari said as she went into the bathroom and grabbed the desert medical kit she had.
Both boys looked down at their friend with extreme worry. Her skin looked very pale as well as taught and fake. Her hair was plastered to her head, and her pyjamas clung to her body. She looked like she was going to die.
“Move.” Temari instructed as she walked between both boys. After a moment of looking she announced what she knew. “I know what this is.” Temari said reassuringly as she pulled out a deep purple liquid in a vile. “She’ll be fine.” she assured the boys as she spread the liquid across her lips. “It’s an allergic reaction to the Kinoc Root that we had for dinner.” she spoke in comforting tones as she spread the liquid across Naruto’s and Sasuke’s lips as well; just in case. “I’m sorry, being from the desert, and having only my family to cook for; I’m not used to people being allergic to it. I‘m aware of it, but not used to it.” looks down ashamed. “It’s not deadly or anything but it can cause, well.” waves her hand over Sakura’s now sleeping form. “Her being smaller than you two, it ran though her faster. Just think, at least she got it first; to save you two from the possible consequences as well?”
“Yeah.” both said disconnectedly as they looked at her. “Your sure she’ll be alright.”
“Yep, absolutely positive.” Temari said. “Kankuro will be here, she’ll be fine.” gently leading the two boys out. “It’s okay. Really.”
Both the boys looked defeated as they walked down the hall and into their respective rooms. Both of them suddenly feeling very tired. “Goodnight.”
For the rest of the night, Kankuro watched over Sakura. He knew Temari was right, but still he wanted to make sure. Also, he knew that once she was ‘out of the woods’, at least in his mind he would go to bed and sleep in. He yawned tiredly as he bunched his pillow up and watched her. ‘I wonder what Gaara would have done had she been in his room?’ Kankuro began to think. ‘He probably would have been meditating, he might not have noticed.’ He really didn’t want to think about what state she would have been in the morning had this been left untreated.

Sasuke had fallen right to sleep, having conceded defeat to Temari. He had two piles of cards and she had nine; there was no way to win.
Temari had also fallen to sleep, feeling utterly exhausted by the time she had put the cards back into the box and had turned off the light. The coolness of the sheets and fabric of the pillow lulling her into a deep restful sleep.
* * *
Well it hadn’t been Naruto who had made the noise, so he couldn’t kill him. Gaara watched the form again, hardly a sound coming from the sleeping boy. He could tell that this was the sleep that Naruto had been searching for; the type of sleep that Naruto needed.
‘One day I’ll sleep like that.’ Gaara thought as he closed his eyes again. ’One day, my dream will be realized.’

Mehla Seraphim - Well it is odd. Well, Sakura (and I) both don’t do well with ‘Heavy duty’ cots (x.x) especially for 6 months …. Oh goodness … but awkwardness is fun! I hate it when people snore too *playful glare at fiancée* but I’ve gotten used to it. So the question is, will Gaara get used to it? Will Naruto be there for the rest of the time? Will Gaara just kill Naruto then everybody else so they wont complain??? OHHH big questions. ^^

XGIRLROUGUE - Poor Gaara indeed. I really don’t think Kankuro would sleep with Naruto … even though he clearly stated that he didn’t care about the gender and that they can be adults about it. I think now that the only way that Kankuro would get Sakura is if Gaara told his brother to switch. I will tell you that there is a 50 - 50 chance that Gaara will get a little love (gosh I’m a bitch) and he is cute.
