Unfinished Business

Hey everyone! This is a really busy week for me so this may be the only update you see until Sunday (I’m going out of town one final weekend). I’ll update as soon as I can upon my return.

“It’s positive?” Anko asked.

“It’s positive.” Kurenai repeated. She couldn’t help but smile, however she tried to hide it from Anko.

“You’re smiling….you wanted to be pregnant, didn’t you?” Anko asked her, grinning all over.

“Hell, who am I kidding….yeah I did. Asuma will be thrilled. He...well, we…wanted this to happen. The truth is we’ve been trying for 3 months now.” Kurenai glowed.

“Oh my god! I get to corrupt your baby!” Anko said delighted. She hugged Kurenai and they proceeded to tell Shizune what had just happened.

“Okay, now that I’m pregnant, let’s cook.” Kurenai said beginning to pull pans out of the kitchen cabinets.

“Alright, that is it! You said you would go sleep on that rug! Can’t you see I’m going to slice this eggplant! Dogs don’t eat eggplant! So what is it!” Anko demanded of Pakkun. Well, it was obvious that he wanted something else to eat so Anko gave him a piece of the eggplant to prove the point that dogs didn’t like eggplant.

Asuma, Gai, Iruka, Kakashi, Genma and Hayate had returned from the hike. They were outside taking off their shoes do mud wouldn’t end up all over the house. Gai was the first through the door.

“Well, it smells good in here, but your girls missed it.” He said. He was heading upstairs to get in the shower before anyone else.

“Did you have a nice hike?” Kurenai asked.

“It was great!” Gai yelled down from the top of the stairs. Asuma, Kakashi, Iruka, Genma and Hayate filed in after Gai.

“I smell eggplant.” Kakashi told Anko walking over to the bar that surrounded the kitchen. Pakkun decided it was time to leave Anko alone and so he hopped up in Kakashi’s lap. Asuma and Iruka headed upstairs to take advantage of the other two showers. Kakashi told Anko all about the hike before finally deciding to go upstairs and take a shower, of course he and Anko had habits of being slow so he would actually end up being last in the shower even though Gai was already almost finished. Kurenai quickly left the kitchen to find Asuma, she couldn’t keep the news to herself, she wanted him to know.

Asuma was upstairs in their bedroom. “Asuma.” She called to him as she entered their bedroom. He wrapped her up in his arms and kissed her. “Hey, I took the test again today.” She said.

“Yeah?” Asuma said watching her intently.

“I’m pregnant.” There. She had told him.

“Oh my god.” He squeezed her. He was excited, even though he had come off uncertain to Kakashi earlier in the mountains. The truth was he wanted her pregnant, but he wasn’t about to let that completely show. “I’m happy that you are, Kurenai.” He reassured her. Now, the next step was to tell everyone over dinner. This was most definitely a trip to be remembered.

Anko finished cooking the eggplant; she tasted it, just to be sure. She would let Kakashi taste it whenever he came back downstairs. Asuma and Kurenai came back downstairs, Anko gave them both a hug, she knew what Kurenai had told him.

“You know, me hugging you doesn’t mean that I’m thrilled about babies; it just means that I’m glad you two got what you wanted….which is one knocked up Kurenai.” Anko had such a way with words. They couldn’t help but laugh at her.

Kakashi was the last to come downstairs. Iruka and Gai were getting plates out for dinner. Anko took a piece of the eggplant to Kakashi for him to taste test.

“Perfect.” He told her. And so dinner was served soon thereafter. And Kurenai made the announcement. The reactions were expected from Gai and Iruka, Gai couldn’t believe it and Iruka couldn’t wait to baby-sit since he loved children. Kakashi’s comment was typical of him,

“You know Kurenai, you can’t have sex in your last trimester, how are you going to handle that.” Kurenai laughed.

“I’ll call you and bitch about it.” She answered.
It had been a great evening and a great meal. However, there was still unfinished business on this trip. Kurenai had gotten her wish. But she wouldn’t be the only one with news to reveal…

“You know what I’d love to have?” Anko asked Kakashi. It was late at this point and they were bundled up under the covers of their bed.

“What’s that.” He asked her.

“Chocolate chip cookies.” She said dreamily. Kakashi hugged her tightly in to him.

“If you want chocolate chip cookies, I’ll go find you some.” He told her.

“Nah, I’m just talking. I’ll make Shizune get me some tomorrow.” She said. Kakashi laughed at her. She hugged him just as tightly.

“You know, Kurenai gets a baby so I can get you the cookies they would cost less and they don’t break your heart when they’re older.” Kakashi told her. Anko thought this was funny.

“Good point.” She said.

“I love you, Anko and there’s something I want to talk to you about.” Kakashi told her.

“We aren’t making babies. Oh no. I refuse to grow things in my uterus.” Anko insisted. Kakashi laughed at her.

“No Anko, don’t worry, I don’t want you to grow children.” He reassured her. “But there is something I do want from you.” Kakashi took a deep breath.

“What’s that? Anko asked. “You know, you can ask me to do just about anything for you except make babies.” Anko said. “So, what is it?”

“Well, I want you…” Kakashi paused. He swallowed hard. Was she really ready for this? This was the part that made him nervous, he loved her so much and he would probably go crazy if he lost her and her answer could be the demise of him. So, he had a solution.

“Will you go downstairs and get me a glass of water.” He asked her with soft black and red eyes.

“Sure.” She smiled and hopped out of bed. Kakashi could have slapped himself a hundred times…another missed opportunity.
