Ten days later the three of them were moving Shikamaru’s stuff to his new apartment. Both the others hade made it to the third round again and were supposed to be training, but as Neji had said, caring boxes was also training, and if Shikamaru’s mother caught them, they would have a lot of running to do as well. Shikamaru had decided that he should move first and tell his parents later. Neji hade called him a cowered, but Shikamaru called himself careful. He knew his mum would flip, and therefore he wanted to be sure that his stuff was safe... He had chosen this day to move since his parents were away and it would give him a day to get out.
Shikamaru had forcefully kept his mind of Kakashi since their talk before the exam’s start. That the man had been on a three week mission had helped of course, but he had seen the copy-nin reporting in early this morning and knew that he’d soon have to face his own feelings. But for now, he had to focus on moving.
In the afternoon, once they were finished, they were indeed joined by Kakashi and Genma, and to their surprise, Iruka. The six of them were seated on the bare living room floor in the two room apartment among the still packed boxes and were listening to Gaara’s and Neji’s stories from the second exam. All of them agreed that teaming with Lee must be a drag, but Neji insisted that once you learned how to make the crazy taijutsu-ninja do what you wanted him to do he was a great asset. As long as Sakura wasn’t around…
Genma and Neji excused them self as the sun started to set to the great amusement to the others. Once they were gone Kakashi decided that they needed food and dragged Shikamaru with him to go shopping, leaving the two others behind in tense silence. Gaara was silent because he had never known any adult to even take notice of him, other then being afraid of him. And Iruka because he had no idea of how to approach the green eyed youth, but he was still determent to do so. He had after all been the first to recognise Naruto for who he was instead of what he was. But there was a great difference between Naruto and Gaara, and that was even if Iruka left all the obvious things out.
“So… How are things going back home now?” He finally managed to ask.
Gaara was shocked by the question, why did the brown haired Sensei care? He had talked to the man some when he and his siblings had helped out at the academy. But that was a long time ago now. Or at least it felt like it... And it had only been work related. He tilted his head slightly to look at the other, searching for any lies, and was slightly surprised when he only found curiosity.
Iruka on the other hand saw a lot. Not only the confusion, but also heartbreak, loneliness, doubt and pain. More clear than it had ever been in Naruto. The way he tilted his head made Iruka just want to wrap his arms around him and kiss away that frown on his face and… What was he thinking!?! He mentally slapped himself. It had not been a week since Genma had told him about his relationship with Neji and his head already become this screwed up?!? He adverted his eyes from Gaara but couldn’t stop the faint blush that had appeared over his nose.
Gaara’s frown increased, Iruka was confusing… Troublesome even, to use Shikamaru’s word. He had briefly seen want pass in those deep brown eyes, only to be replaced by shame. It made no sense to him at all. And being the person he was he had still a lot to learn about others feelings, therefore he decided to ask about it. He knew that Naruto loved Iruka and Shikamaru and Neji both seemed to trust the school teacher and Gaara saw no reason for him not to do so too.
“What is that you want so badly that you’re ashamed of it?”
Iruka’s eyes snapped back at him, holding confusion and fright. “What do you mean?” Iruka asked with a shaking voice. Had he really been that obvious?
Gaara frowned and tiled his head to his side, not understanding why his simple question had brought out fear in Iruka.
“I mean the way you looked just now, one second your eyes were shining with a desire and then they became dull with shame. What is that causes such reaction in you?”
Iruka adverted his eyes again and the blush deepened. “Forgive me, I must have spent to much time with Genma-san. I’ll leave you alone…” The teacher was gone in a flash, leaving behind an even more confused Sand Ninja. When Kakashi and Shikamaru returned sometime later he was still staring at the spot where Iruka had been. He excused himself and left as soon as he realised that the others were back.
“What the heck was that about?” Shikamaru said when the door slammed after Gaara.
“You know… If I didn’t know better I’d say that the two of them had had a lovers quarrel…”
Shikamaru growled in annoyance and shook his head. “They better wait until after the exam, one couple to protect is enough…”
Their eyes met and suddenly both broke down laughing, none of them really noticing how close they had become. Not even with Genma did Kakashi let his guard down like this… The strain from the last months finally took its toll. Three hours and a lot of sake later the still broke down in giggle fits every now and then.
Kakashi had allowed Shikamaru to have sake on their very first mission toghter and had soon found out that not only was the Nara a responsible drinker but could also take more alcohol than most people he knew, making him the only one that could actually keep up with Kakashi when it came to drinking. But tonight Kakashi had the advantage of having slept the entire day, while Shikamaru had hardly slept at all…
Shikamaru’s eyes narrowed slightly as he realised that even though they had done a lot of missions toghter, even though they had spent more time toghter then Shikamaru did with anyone else, he still hadn’t seen Kakashi’s face… He couldn’t be falling for a man he hadn’t even seen, could he? He had to know… Not what the man looked like, he had to know what this weird feeling was. What it was he felt every time he saw Kakashi, why his skin tingled every time Kakashi touched him. He could remember even the merest touch the copy ninja had placed on him, and he had to know why!
Suddenly Shikamaru lounged himself at Kakashi and pinned the older man to the floor. Not really knowing what he wanted to do now when he had this closeness that he had longed for he took a shaky breath before opening his mouth.
“You’ve been gone for weeks… I’ve missed you Kakashi-kun.”
Kakashi was lost for words, his hands pinned over his head and with this beautiful boy on top of him… Who wouldn’t be? Wait! When had he started to think of Shikamaru as beautiful?!? But in his drunken state he really didn’t care. Nor did he bother with the slight tingling in his mind at being called Kakashi-kun again… Beside Orochimaru’s mockery it had been a long time since anyone called something so intimate… Genma’s –chan just didn’t count.
“I’ve missed you too Shika-kun…” He breathed, not knowing what else to say right now.
Their eyes locked with each other… Shikamaru shifted his hold on Kakashi’s wrist so that he could hold them with one hand and used the other to gently push the forehead protector up. Kakashi’s eyes flickered slightly, not knowing what to focus on right now. As Shikamaru’s finger traced the outline of the mask Kakashi was close to panicking, should he really allow this to happen? But as Shikamaru’s dark eyes seemed to plead him for permission, he found himself unable to deny the request and nodded numbly.
Shikamaru let out a breath he hadn’t realising he had been holding and slid his fingers under the fabric, gently, slowly pushing the cloth down. His eyes widened and he gasped, making Kakashi blush under his intense gaze. As if hypnotized he ran his finger over the pale, almost feminine face. He traced the scar that sliced over the Sharingan eye and then moved to the second scar on the otherwise flawless skin. He bit his lip as he traced the scar that went almost along Kakashi’s jaw line. But this scar was pale, not red as the other was and it didn’t take a medi-nin to realise that this pale one had been placed there first.
Shikamaru felt Kakashi stir slightly under his touch, as if he was trying to get away from him and his eyes snapped back up to meet the mismatched ones and for the first time ever, he saw uncertainty there. Shikamaru kept his hand on Kakashi’s cheek as he leaned down and captured those pale, thin yet at the same time oddly marked, lips in a soft kiss. “You’re gorgeous…” He murmured into the kiss sending Kakashi’s mind swirling. Fear, want, need, panic and a lot of other things that Kakashi couldn’t even name at the moment, swirled inside of him. But he wanted this, God, he want this…
He twisted them around so that he was now on top and slowly deepen the kiss, running his tongue over Shikamaru’s lips, begging for entrance. Shikamaru gasped and opened his lips as a shiver, more powerful then anything Kakashi had provoked in him so far had been, went through him. The gasp turned into a low moan as Kakashi’s tongue explored his mouth. The alcohol so evident in both mouths, but their heads was buzzing with something even more intoxicating… That thing called love, even though none of them were able to understand it yet. They pulled apart when air became too important and this time it was Kakashi’s fingers that traced a tanned cheek below him. “Beautiful… You’re so beautiful Shika-kun…” Their lips met again in a soft, short kiss and their fingers in twined with each other. They broke apart and rolled to their sides, still facing each other and fingers numbly continued their exploration. Kakashi ran his fingers up Shikamaru’s bare arms, wondering if his fingers had ever experienced something as delicate as this.
Shikamaru on the other hand was still mesmerised over the sight that all wanted, but few, if anyone before him, had seen. He bit his lip slightly before leaning in again and this time he didn’t wait for Kakashi to initiate a deeper kiss, this time he was the one that coaxed Kakashi’s lips open with his tongue and his eye’s fell shut as he slowly were let in. Kakashi’s hand was suddenly on his hip, pulling them flush against each other and Shikamaru made a sharp intake of air before he managed to remember what he was supposed to be doing. His tongue started to explore. It felt so good, so real to be this close… But before the kiss had even started to get really heated Shikamaru hissed in pain and withdrew, clasping a hand over his mouth as a coppery taste started to fill his mouth. His eyes wide in shook looked for contact with Kakashi’s. But Kakashi was pulling away, his eyes down cast as if in shame and it wasn’t until Shikamaru grabbed his arm that the retreating stopped.
“You have fangs…” Shikamaru half stated, half asked and Kakashi nodded without looking at him. Shikamaru smirked as he leaned in again as he at the same time tilted Kakashi’s face up to face him and once again kissed him. This time careful of the sharp teeth, but still tracing them with curiosity and a low moaned escaped Kakashi and Shikamaru heard himself whimper as they were forced to break apart.
“I like them, and don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone.” Shikamaru grinned and Kakashi smiled and shook his head.
“May I ask how come though? I mean, that’s some serious deadly weapon you have.” Shikamaru teased slightly and Kakashi shrugged.
“Family trait unfortunately. Not all Hatake’s get them, but many do… Or rather, did.”
Shikamaru nodded, knowing that once again he had been trusted. He couldn’t help but wondering how many people Kakashi trusted like this… If this was as rare for Kakashi as it was to him…
“Where does this place us Kakashi?”
“I’m not sure Shika-kun… What do you think?”
“I’m not sure either… I think about you all the time, but I’m not sure that it is love or what it is…”
”Then I think we should just leave it as it is for now… We’ll know eventually…” Inwardly Kakashi was shaking with fear, this was not planed, and this was not the way he had decided that his life would be.
Shikamaru yawned and nodded.
“Maybe that’s for the best… It seems that we have enough of love sick people around us to become some ourselves…” But inside Shikamaru knew that it was already too late and he felt his heart freeze as he understood that he knew EXACTLY what he wanted with Kakashi. But that only made him more insecure about what he wanted. “Troublesome…” He murmured as his eyes fell shut.
Kakashi watched the boy fall asleep and then carefully picked him up and carried him to his bedroom. He placed the boy down so gently that it looked as if he thought that the boy would break if he wasn’t careful.
“And that’s what you’ll do if I’m not careful, isn’t it, you troublesome boy…?” He kissed Shikamaru’s forehead and then pulled his mask back up and left in silence. What would this lead to he wondered as he made his way home, but as he unlocked his door he had made a hard decision. He would stay away from Shikamaru.
He headed straight for his shower with every intention of having a REALLY cold shower, but as he stripped out of his clothes a small voice inside of him, that sounded a lot like Genma’s, told him that it was ok to indulge for one night… He closed his eyes as he stepped under the hot spray of water and smiled lopsided to himself, he guessed he could be human too, even if it was just for tonight… He bit his lip to keep quiet as stroked himself to the memories of that agile tongue rolling in his mouth, tracing his detested fangs… And as he came, the soft sigh that escaped his lips sounded a lot like ‘Shika’…
He crawled into his bed and closed his eyes, forcing himself to remember who he was and why he shouldn’t even think about Shikamaru in that way… He would leave now, before either of them drowned in this. Before the Hatake’s caused the Nara’s more pain…

A/N This was the hardest chap to write so far, and I know that Kakashi is OOC, but he just wouldn’t work with me. Hope you enjoyed it anyway.
