After the Rain
Chapter 6, Almost in the Land of Waves
Sasuke sat in complete silence underneath a tree. He had been in the land of waves for quite some time and he knew that
Orochimaru wouldn't follow him here. He wanted just a little time to himself. He desperately needed a change of clothes.
Those garbs that looked rather like Orochimaru's had to go. He was tired of looking like that pale sannin. So, he decided
to head off into town, to find some clothing, in order to blend in with the locals. His mind drifted to that blond
shinobi he had shared some intimate moments with. Naruto was special to him. The curse mark took completely over him in
the beginning, it clouded his mind. He was now strong enough to fight it off, but still being able to use his power. He now
knew what he had to do to get to Naruto. He was going to hide out from Orochimaru. He was going to enjoy freedom from
him and from everything for a while, until Naruto came for him.
Walking through the town, he saw all kinds of things he hadn't seen in a while. He hadn't seen anything quite like it in
three years. Those long three years. He wondered how much Naruto had grown in those years. He knew that Naruto was much
more of a man. He knew that Naruto's boyish features had grown into stronger, more manly features. He stopped at a clothing
store. The need to change clothes was seriously evident.
He looked through all the items of clothing, looking for something that matched his personality, but also made him look
inconspicuous. He saw some tight black jeans hanging on a rack. Very tight. He knew if Naruto saw him in those, he would
melt. Sasuke smiled to himself. 'Would Naruto just take him back with open arms?' Sasuke thought. He did almost try to
kill him, all for some power. If he would have realized what he knew now, that would have never have happened. He hated
the way Orochimaru treated him. He was going to get past that and he was going to live free of him from now on and
forever.
The picked the pair of jeans from the rack that matched his size and now he went off in search for a shirt. Of course, he
needed more than one outfit, but that would have to wait. He would have to find some way to earn money here. He was going
to start his life over again. He could never return to the Hidden Leaf Village. He was branded as a traitor, just like his
brother. There was no way that the new Hokage would let someone like him walk into the village.
*Flashback*
"Sasuke," Kakashi told him quietly, "The Hokage requests your presence."
"Yes, Kakashi-sensei. Do you know what he wants to see me for?" Sasuke asked curiously, hoping it had nothing to do with
that curse mark that plagued him.
"I don't know. He wouldn't tell me," Kakashi explained. "You need to see him right now."
"Hn," Sasuke grunted and headed off to see the Third Hokage. He tried to make the trip as quick as possible. He really
wanted to know what was going to be said. He just had to know. He quickly ran up the stairs and waited outside the Hokage's
office. He knocked twice.
"You may enter," said the Third Hokage.
Sasuke quickly walked into the office. "You requested to see me, Hokage?"
"Yes, I did, Sasuke Uchiha. I know that you have been plagued with the Curse Seal of Orochimaru. So now, I have come to
ask you a favor. I have one last mission for you."
"What is it, Lord Hokage?" Sasuke asked, a tremor of fear in his voice.
"I need you to go with Lord Orochimaru after he kills me. I need you to be his student. Do everything he would expect of
a student. Then, I need you to kill him. I don't care how long it takes you. I will leave secret files about this mission
for the next Hokage, but even they will have to do some digging. You will be looked upon as a traitor here in the Hidden
Leaf Village. You will be a traitor just like your brother."
"I'm not Itachi," Sasuke yelled.
"I gave Itachi the mission to kill the Uchiha clan. They were planning to eliminate the Hidden Leaf Village. After that,
Itachi left the village and became a traitor."
"How come no one ever exposed the truth?" Sasuke asked, seeing how all this just filled his plate suddenly.
"Itachi wanted it that way. He wanted you to hate him. That way you will kill him for sinning in the way that he did. He
wanted to be killed by his little brother," The Third Hokage explained to him. "We need you to eliminate Orochimaru. Do
you accept this mission?"
"Yes," Sasuke said softly, unknowing of what he was getting himself into. Little did he know, he was getting himself
entangled into a deep web of deceit and trickery that would take him years to get out of. Sasuke's eyes looked rather sad.
He just found out the truth about his brother, but it hadn't really sank in yet. He didn't understand anything now. There
were so many unanswered questions. He was going to find Itachi and ask him, even if he searched for decades.
*With Kakashi and Iruka*
"Do you think Naruto know that we followed him?" Iruka asked.
"Not a chance," Kakashi assured. "I bet Neiji thinks that the ANBU Black Ops are on their tails. I bet he's devised some
kind of plan to stay away from that."
"How do you know all this?" Iruka looked at him curiously.
"I don't, I just have a feeling," Kakashi laughed, taking out his Icha Icha Paradise book.
"You know, I really don't know what you see in that book," Iruka giggled.
"Why not read it with me?" Kakashi invited, offering to sit with him together. Iruka took him up on that offer and Kakashi
ended up sitting behind Iruka with legs stretched out and his arm wrapped around Iruka. The other arm was holding the book
that way they both could read it. Iruka leaned back onto Kakashi, who was leaning on a tree.
"Don't you think we should be following Naruto?" Iruka asked, still wanting to follow the mission.
"We can catch up fairly quickly," Kakashi told him. "Let's just enjoy this time together."
*On Naruto's Journey*
"We should be in port by nightfall," Neiji informed the team. "We need to get ready. We will need to be on our guard. By
now, Orochimaru already knows we are coming. He will have spies watching us wherever we go. Be on your toes. We might not
always be together as a team. We will have to split up."
"I would want to search for him alone," Naruto informed them. "He would be more likely to talk if it were just me, rather than
a whole group of people."
"I agree with you, Naruto," TenTen remarked, but what if something happened to you?"
"I can handle myself. Believe it!"
