Parent Trap: Chapter 6
_________________________

Sasuke tried to calm his heartbeat and his breath as he reached the entrance to the restaurant. All he wanted to do was get the hell out of the place, go home, and scream his misfortune to his pillow. Why, oh why, did that man have to be Uzumaki-sensei? Fate loved to throw shit at him and laugh it up, apparently.

Leaning against the wooden frame of the elegant door, Sasuke closed his eyes and was assaulted by images he had never before wanted to forget that now he wished he’d stricken from his memory long ago.

The throbbing beat of the club’s music. The sweat on his body from the heat. Strong hands that glided over his skin like they were trying to map out his most intimate places. Hot lips stealing his breath as they melded to his over and over again. Hips grinding against his erotically, creating a mind numbing pleasure that dulled the sweet buzz from all the alcohol he’d imbibed. His pants being pushed from his thin frame, golden blonde hair in his face as a head dipped to bite and suck at his neck…

Sasuke’s eyes popped open as he found his breath growing short once again. He glared at nothing and moved to open the door, only to realize he had no idea where he was going. His parents had taken them in the limo, and the driver was told not to return until his mother called. And, he realized belatedly, he couldn’t even call a cab because in his rush to get away from that man – that gorgeous, wonderfully talented man, his thoughts added for him against his will – he’d left his cellphone at the table.

He could either get the staff here to call one for him, or he could march over to the table and get his cellphone. The first one made him uncomfortable, and the second one was almost out of the question. It just depended on how much he wanted to be out of here.

His eyes tracked his mother and father dancing around the floor, and then landed on the strange sight of Itachi dancing with the very elegant woman that had been with Uzumaki-sensei. He searched the area for a gleam of blonde hair, to see if that man was anywhere near his table. When he saw no signs of him, Sasuke decided to just head back and quickly grab his phone, but a voice stopped him before he could move.

“I think you forgot this, Uchiha-san.”

Sasuke turned to his right, almost startled by the man’s close proximity. Uzumaki-sensei stood grinning at him good-naturedly, Sasuke’s cellphone held in his outstretched hand. His blonde hair shone golden under the dim lighting, and his tanned skin looked like warm honey. The nicely tailored suit couldn’t hide the outline of a magnificently muscled body, and flashes of that body pressing him into a wall whipped across Sasuke’s mind.

Sasuke almost couldn’t say anything for a minute, surprised that the man had snuck up on him, and equally surprised at the feelings of intense want that tried to break through his guard. But he collected himself into his usual state of Uchiha-ness and thanked the man as he reached for his phone.

The man’s skin was as warm as he remembered, and to keep his thoughts from broadcasting too much, Sasuke turned back toward the inner restaurant, watching the dancing figures. Itachi and the sensei’s lady friend flowed gracefully across the floor and into his field of vision. Itachi was elegant and emotionless as he always was, save for a strange spark of enjoyment that Sasuke could glean from his eyes. The lady was likewise nearly emotionless, but Sasuke could tell she was almost angry from the way she held herself.

“June isn’t going to be happy with me later, sacrificing her to Itachi-san like that, but it was worth it.”

“What do you mean, Uzumaki-sensei?” Sasuke couldn’t help but ask.

“Please, call me Naruto. And may I call you Sasuke?” He knew those dazzling blue eyes were gazing down at him without even looking, and it sent shivers down his spine.

“Alright, Naruto-san. What do you mean about a sacrifice being worth it?”

Naruto chuckled lightly. “Ah, you see, June doesn’t do well with other people, and I can tell just by looking at her that she’s pissed as all hell at me for forcing her to dance with your brother. But it’s worth it,” Naruto continued, shifting just a little closer to Sasuke, “because now Itachi is too distracted to come after you and taunt you about running away, and so I won’t be blamed for any embarrassment you may feel. See? It’s worth it because now, you won’t be mad at me.”

Sasuke raised a fine black brow and shot a glance at the blonde. “And what makes you think I was running away?”

Blue eyes gazed at him seriously before they lightened into amusement, and Naruto’s lips curled into a charming smile that took Sasuke aback for its resemblance to Kei’s disarming smile. Though Naruto had definitely had more practice at it, for while Kei’s smiles made him smile as well, this one of Naruto’s almost made him melt.

“No reason.”

There was silence between them as they watched the dance come to an end. Sasuke’s parents returned to the table, his mother’s confusion over his and Itachi’s absence showing on her lovely face as she sat down. Then Itachi returned to the table with Naruto’s date in tow, and his parents rose to greet her as Itachi started introductions.

“I had thought that I’d never see you again, Sasuke-san.”

Sasuke tensed, but turned to look at Naruto anyway. “We weren’t supposed to meet ever again.”

“Hm, I thought that, too. But here we are, both, apparently, still haunted by those memories and brought together under more advantageous circumstances. I’m starting to think that perhaps we were.”

“Nonsense.” And yet, that want from earlier was still trying to tear at his walls, and he had a sinking feeling that Naruto was quite aware of it.

“Regardless, we’ll have to see each other more often, as I am your sons’ teacher. And you owe me a conference.” Naruto’s face just beamed amusement, and it irked Sasuke.

“Why can’t we have it right now?”

“No can do. I’m not here in a professional capacity. How about tomorrow, during my lunch break? I’m sure you can manage it.”

Sasuke was set to refuse until he remembered his parents’ admonitions about putting it off. “Fine. What time is your break?”

“Noon. I look forward to seeing you then, Sasuke-san. Now, shall we return to your table?”

Sasuke scowled at the arm Naruto offered him and walked away, back towards his table. If the blonde had done anything right today, though, it had been giving Sasuke the opportunity to save face. Because if Itachi started any shit about him leaving the table like he had, Sasuke would just have to remark how wonderful a dancer his brother was. He’d be damned if he was the only one humiliated tonight.

~*~

Sasuke glanced over the playground, remembering the times he’d played there in his youth. Well, the times he’d tried to hide from his chibi fangirls. And looking out now, he could see it was his sons’ turns to dodge the ‘cute cooties,’ though Kei looked like he rather enjoyed the attention.

When Kei tripped over his untied laces, Sasuke nearly moved from his spot to help before he thought better of it. The boys needed to learn how to defend themselves sometime.

Touya turned around to help him to his feet, but those girls were nearly upon them, and they were about to be glomped to death, or a reasonable facsimile thereof. Sasuke couldn’t help but smirk.

Then, to his surprise, a young girl in an outrageously orange jumper stepped in front of his boys and addressed the girls in a very loud voice.

“No one will get the Uchiha boys as long as ninja Uzumaki Ayame is on the mission! Back off enemy nin, or I will be forced to use my awesome chakra to unleash an untold amount of jutsu to render you helpless!”

The girls were distracted enough by the little ninja for Sasuke’s sons to get away unscathed. They ran back into the building, leaving the orange-clad child to defend herself. And even though she looked quite capable of doing so, Sasuke would still have a talk with his sons about leaving a girl in trouble.

“Argh! Ayame! You let Touya and Kei get away!”

“Yeah, we almost had them this time!”

Sasuke watched the little ninja Ayame flick a pigtail over her shoulder. “That was the point. I am their bodyguard, and so I am, uh, guarding their bodies!”

Sasuke raised an eyebrow as he walked over to the gathered girls. He might as well do what his sons left undone. He knew what girls blocked from their goal could do in their anger.

“Girls, let’s calm down,” he said, settling his hand on Ayame’s head. “I’m quite thankful to this young lady for protecting my sons. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have an appointment with Uzumaki-sensei.”

“You’re going to see Tou-san?” Ayame asked him excitedly. When he looked down, he was greeted with bright blonde hair and brilliant blue eyes, almost an exact replica. “Then we can go together!”

Ayame grabbed his hand from off her head and started to tug him to the school building. She began telling him about her adventures as a ninja here in Konoha, and how she was a lot busier than she’d ever been in Suna, most of her time used to protect his sons from the ravenous horde.

“Tou-san said I’m not allowed to beat them up like I used to in Suna because I don’t have my friends from Suna who used to play ninja with me to keep me from going too far.”

“He let you beat people up?” Sasuke asked incredulously. Then again, it didn’t really surprise him that the man didn’t know how to parent properly.

“Well,” Ayame turned her eyes up to him, a sly shadow in the blue pools, “He didn’t let me, but I never really got in trouble for it because Sakura-chan would always lecture Tou-san about how a girl should be able to defend herself and that I’m just ‘exploring my right to say no’ at an early age.”

Sasuke had a feeling he didn’t want to ever meet this Sakura.

They finally came to a stop outside a room, greeted by Naruto’s light laughter as Kei told him about being saved from the girls by his daughter. Ayame let go of Sasuke’s hand and threw the door open, racing in to join in on the story.

Sasuke watched from the door as Ayame, Kei, and even Touya actively interacted with Naruto and Naruto genuinely responded. And then those blue eyes caught him in the door, and a pleased smile was aimed at him.

“Ah, Sasuke-san, you’re right on time.” As Naruto stood to greet him, he noticed Touya eyeing him intently. Giving his son a raised eyebrow in return, Sasuke strode forward to meet Naruto halfway, bowing when they stopped before each other.

Naruto smiled at him as they came up before turning his attention to the children. “Ok, you guys, head back to the playground. If all three of you need protection from the scary girls after this, Iruka-sensei should be out there.”

“Tou-san!”

“Sensei!”

Ayame and Kei pouted indignantly at the slight, while Touya ignored the jab altogether. Naruto chuckled, ushering them out the door, and then turned and offered Sasuke a seat at the front of the classroom.

“Let’s make this quick, Uzumaki-sensei. I need to return to work,” Sasuke said as he pushed away the indignity of sitting in one of the small desk chairs.

“I thought I told you to call me Naruto, Sasuke-san,” Naruto replied mischievously, his voice in a low register, but still somewhat normal. It was in no way husky or sultry, and so Sasuke couldn’t for the life of him figure out why it had such a profound effect on him, causing desire to race down his spine and pool in his stomach.

Sasuke covered with a smirk. “Last night you weren’t in a professional capacity. Today is quite different, Uzumaki-sensei,” he stressed the name.

“Aa, then Uchiha-san, we’ll keep this as professional as possible. Quite a shame, though,” Naruto trailed off, eyeing Sasuke from the corner of his eye as he sat down in a chair next to his.

By all rights, Sasuke should have felt awkward with a man from his past not only talking so casually with him, but also doing what could only be termed flirting both inside and outside of his ‘professional capacity.’ But instead, it felt… good. Fun, even.

When was the last time Sasuke had even looked for someone to share this kind of flirty banter? Though, if anyone accused him of bantering flirtatiously, he’d deny it with a swift hit to his or her head, or other, more precious areas.

“Alright, Uchiha-san. The first thing I point out to all the parents is that I will not deviate from Kurenai-sensei’s original curriculum. We may have different teaching methods, but rest assured, your sons will be afforded the best education for their grade level.”

Sasuke effectively tried not to stare, but this Naruto was so different from the boy he’d met in Suna, different even from the man he’d met last night. There was a professional air that, even after requesting it, seemed completely out of place on such a bright young man.

Sasuke brought forth the memory of first meeting Naruto in that club in Suna, watching him from across the floor as the flashing lights dyed that blonde hair a myriad of other colors, that tight and muscled body grinding against someone or another, men and women alike.

That punkish boy, rebelling against the decorum of a university student that Sasuke had been raised to believe in, had struck such a hard chord within him that Sasuke had thought he’d never forget him.

And he hadn’t.

But the man before him and from last night was so far gone from the boy he’d secretly admired all those years ago. What had happened to him?

That wasn’t to say that the charming Naruto from last night was anything bad, but…

And why the hell did Sasuke even care?!

Scowling to himself, Sasuke pushed such thoughts from his mind, resolving not to think them again. What happened in the past was done, and he didn’t care what had happened to the fun-loving blonde of back then.

Snapping his eyes to a still-talking Naruto, Sasuke abruptly stood, causing Naruto to pause and frown up at him in confusion.

“Is this all you wanted to discuss today, Uzumaki-sensei? Because I do have more important matters to attend to.”

Naruto scowled and stood as well. “Nothing should be more important than your children’s education.”

“I’m sure the school wouldn’t hire a complete moron to teach our children, so I leave them in your capable hands. Now if you’ll excuse me.”

Sasuke gave a stiff bow and began to walk away.

“Fine, be that way for all I care. But the next time I call for a parent conference, I do expect you to be available, teme!”

Sasuke paused at the door, his hand reaching for it but paused in his surprise at being addressed like that. Turning slowly to look at Naruto over his shoulder, Sasuke gave him a chilly glare, deigning not to waste The Look or Look II on such a moron.

“I’d watch how you address your betters, usuratonkachi.” Great, now the idiot had him resorting to name-calling. Sasuke scoffed and continued on his way out.

“What did you call me, bastard?!” Naruto yelled after him as the door opened. Sasuke almost ran into Touya standing just on the other side. Sasuke was immediately afraid that the boy had heard their childish spat.

His son just gazed at him, unreadable as always, and Sasuke felt a small smidgeon of pride. But it was aimed at him, and that he didn’t like. Touya took a small breath and opened his mouth to say something, probably something Sasuke wasn’t going to like and would certainly blame on the blonde idiot.

“Recess is over, Otou-sama. You should probably return to work.”

Not just a little stunned by that, Sasuke could only nod at his son and continue past him. But as he started down the hall, he realized he couldn’t let his anger at the idiot get in the way of his fatherly duties. Besides, he liked his fatherly duties.

Turning on his heel, he knelt before Touya and brought the boy forward for a hug. “You have a good day at school, Touya.”

He was rewarded with a squeeze and one of his son’s small, soft smiles. “Will you be home early?”

Sasuke laughed, missing the startled look Naruto sent him from his desk. “I do believe I can deliver on that. When Uncle Tachi gets to leave early, so do I.”

Touya nodded and turned into his classroom. Sasuke stood, wiping invisible dirt from his pants, and walked down the corridor to the exit. He’d just say goodbye to Kei on his way out and get back to work and make sure nothing happened that would have him break his promise to his son.

~*~

Sasuke’s face was stuck in a terrible glower as he drove his own car into his garage, just barely managing to keep his derogatory thoughts about his lazy ass valet to himself.

It didn’t abate any when he walked in and his maid was nowhere to be seen. So he hung up his own jacket and put away his own briefcase, wondering if he was paying his employees too much.

He didn’t even smell dinner cooking! What the hell was going on?

He walked through the rooms one by one, trying not only to find his staff but his sons and parents as well.

Sasuke finally came to the salon, where his mother used to enjoy her afternoon tea parties in the winter, and stopped in the doorway when he found everyone he’d been looking for, except for his children.

Shikamaru, Ino, Chouji, Kakashi, his mother, father, and brother all stood before the wall of windows that looked out onto the backyard gardens, silently staring outside. It kind of freaked him out, to be perfectly honest.

Clearing his throat, he walked into the room, smirking in bitter pleasure when Ino gasped and began to stutter out an apology on both her and Shikamaru’s behalf. She pulled her husband out of the room by the arm, harshly whispering to him about doing his job better before they were both fired and kicked to the curb.

Chouji apologized as well, leaving to prepare dinner. His mother turned to him smiling, kissing his cheek as she greeted him.

“How was work, hijo?”

“If you were there long enough to do work,” Itachi mumbled with a smirk.

Sasuke scowled at him. “I may have taken a long lunch to talk to the boys’ teacher, but I was at least there longer than you were, Itachi.”

Itachi just continued to smirk, while their father turned to raise a brow his way. It was only then that Sasuke realized how childish it had been to point out Itachi’s ‘failing.’

Wanting to change the subject, Sasuke gave a last glare at Itachi and turned back to his mother. “What are we so occupied by out in the gardens?” Twining his arm with his mother’s, he turned to the window and widened his eyes in surprise.

Touya and Kei were in the gardens, screaming and laughing, as a bouncing ball of orange and gold chased them. Blinking, Sasuke realized it was the little Uzumaki girl, Ayame, and that she was being equally loud as his sons retaliated and chased her around the gardens.

“We were just so enraptured with our grandsons. It’s the first time we’ve seen them having so much fun,” his mother explained quietly.

“Yes, even Touya has been lively this afternoon,” his father added. And indeed, Touya looked as if he was having just as much if not more fun than Kei, and Sasuke could hardly see in his son the stoic and quiet boy of the past six years.

They watched as Ayame took off after Kei. She ran even with him, and just as she shot her little hand out to grab him, Kei sped up, laughing evilly as he teased her for being a girl and for being slow.

Well, Ayame apparently hadn’t liked that. They kept watching as Ayame veered off to her right, nearer to the elegant table and chairs in the pagoda. His mother gasped and Sasuke, Itachi, and their father’s eyes widened comically as the little girl jumped up onto one of the chairs, twisted her body, and flung herself atop Kei, toppling him to the ground.

Mikoto started laughing and flung open the French doors, walking out onto the grounds, Fugaku right behind her, smiling good-naturedly.

Itachi chuckled under his breath, and Sasuke smirked, watching his mother and father commend Ayame on her acrobatics and pat Kei on his head as he pouted on the ground.

“So you met the boys’ teacher today, little brother? And how did you find the charming blonde?”

Sasuke scowled. “I don’t see how that’s any of your business.”

“Really? I didn’t think I needed special permission to be interested in the boys’ education.”

“That’s not what you were asking, and we both know it. Look, I don’t know or really care how you found out, though since he’s hiding in his book and not saying a word to me,” Sasuke cocked his head towards the oddly silent Kakashi, “that he has something to do with it.”

“My, Sasuke, you deeply underestimate my observation skills. But anyway, how did you find Uzumaki-sensei?” he asked again.

Sasuke said nothing.

“If I were to ask you how you two knew each other, could I expect an answer?” Itachi asked slyly.

Sasuke glared at nothing. But if he didn’t answer Itachi, his brother would just bring it up at dinner and get his mother to dig into it. Huffing and noticing that Kakashi’s ears had perked quite a bit at the question, Sasuke tried to figure out a suitable answer.

“I happened to meet him in college, when I took a trip to Suna.”

“And this meeting happened to cause such a reaction as you running away from the table in fear when you’re reunited?”

“I wasn’t afraid,” Sasuke rounded on his brother. “This is none of your business, and if you bring it up again, I will have no qualms throwing you out of my house.” When Itachi just smirked, ready to say something else to rile him up, Sasuke continued, “And if I have to, I will make it so that you never see your nephews again.”

Itachi blinked at him in shock, and even Kakashi brought his head up out of his book. Sasuke wouldn’t even call his outburst childish, though it may have been. He was so on edge about meeting Naruto again, and now Itachi was prying to try and use it against him, no doubt. That’s just what Itachi did.

“I see. Well, little brother, I hope you know that I would never joke about your happiness.”

Happiness? Sasuke scoffed and turned around, walking away from the deep and far too perceptive eyes of his brother. Through the French doors, on his way out, he heard the childish giggles of Ayame and the returned laughter of his sons and parents.

His family was his only happiness. He had no need for anyone else.

As he reached the stairs, the doorbell rang. Sasuke paused at the foot to see who would be at his home at this hour as Ino rushed out to open the door. What greeted him shouldn’t have been as wholly unexpected as it was, after the day he’d had.

Naruto was politely introducing himself to Ino, who gestured to Sasuke just behind her. Naruto caught his eye and smiled good-naturedly.

“Good evening, Sasuke-san.”

“Naruto-san,” he returned, oddly pleased when the use of the man’s first name granted him a wider, pleased smile.

Ino gestured the man inside and closed the door behind him, excusing herself and disappearing through the hall door.

“What brings you to my home?” Sasuke asked.

“Tou-san!” a girlish voice yelled from the hallway, and that bright orange ball bounced into the entrance.

“Ayame! Don’t yell in other people’s homes,” Naruto admonished even as he bent down to scoop his daughter into his arms. “I came to pick up my daughter,” Naruto supplied.

Sasuke’s parents and brother, even Kakashi, joined them, smiling at Naruto and his daughter. Well, his mother was smiling. His father and Itachi seemed rather emotionless, as usual. And Kakashi was reading his damn book.

“Uzumaki-san, your daughter is a joy to have around, especially with this house full of broody men,” Mikoto said, putting forth her hand elegantly for him to shake. Before he could, however, she laughed and retracted it. “Sorry, old habits and all.” She bowed to him instead, which he returned.

“She’s certainly the light of my life,” Naruto said with a laugh. “Thank you for having her over. I was never worried about her not making friends in Konoha, but I’m certainly glad she’s gotten on so well so soon with Sasuke-san’s boys.” He bowed again. “Now, if you’ll excuse us, I need to feed the little one and get her to bed.”

“Oh, please, why don’t you stay for dinner, Uzumaki-san?”

Sasuke had always hated how her word was God in this house, back when it was hers and even now when it was his.

Naruto met his eyes, and Sasuke carefully kept how nervous and irritated the invitation made him from showing on his face.

“Tou-san! I want to eat with Touya and Kei!”

Mikoto laughed and offered once again, assuring him it was no problem. The bitch.

Sasuke winced inwardly, apologizing silently to his mother for the insult. But still. She was killing him here, and he could just feel Itachi’s eyes burning holes into the back of his head.

“Um, then we’d be delighted. Thank you,” Naruto said, bowing once again.

“Then I’ll inform Ino to set two more plates at the table.” Sasuke turned from the scene and began to ascend the stairs. “Sasuke, where are you going?” his mother asked.

Without turning, and in a chilly voice, Sasuke answered, “I’m changing for dinner.”

I might as well be comfortable if I’ll be attending dinner in hell.
