Last Time
Looking on Naruto straightened just as Cloud did, hearing each others harsh breathing. Chuckling Naruto shook as his frame trembled. Cloud echoed the laugh, wiping sweat from his brow. And too think they were only weak monsters.
Waiting
The second floor was just like the first, more rooms with old furniture and paintings. Cloud had decided to go left while Naruto and Kyo had opted to go right. Now much more cautious of things that liked to lark in the darkness.
Each looking into rooms and trying to spot Cloud’s tattered box or the idiot. Cloud had just reached the last room, when he had bumped, literally into a small safe. Thinking that he had got it he started to try different combination's on it with his sweaty palms.
Naruto on the other hand had come to a room that had more foot prints than usual and they were apparently leading in several places around the room. Some were going in circles, while others were going horizontal.
Puzzled and a little amused Naruto tried to pick one pair of prints and see were it would lead him. Turning around and facing a cream colored wall with no pictures on it, he continued his little game.
Smiling when he had finally found that it led right back out the door Naruto lifted his head up only to jump and yelp with indignation, pointing his finger at the smiling blonde on the other side.
“Asshole don’t scare me like that.” Naruto muttered a little peeved that Cloud had been there for awhile now.
Watching him look like an idiot, following foot prints. Straightening Naruto leaned against the white cream colored wall, “So did you get it.” Naruto said casually, inwardly though he just wanted to get out of this house as soon as possible. He didn’t like this room because it was different, there were no mirrors nor rugs like every other room just prints.
Cloud brought up a small tattered box into view.
“Yeah I got it after I remembered where it was.”
Cloud said, already heading towards the stairs. Trying to leave before Naruto questioned why he would forget where he left his possession.
The truth was he had forgotten the damn code to the safe. Naruto uttered a sigh before he pushed off the wall, only to fall right on his ass a second later with a dull thud.
“What the fuck.” Naruto cursed rubbing his backside.
Turning around to see what had happened. Perplexed he noticed that the wall was slightly tilted inward. Frowning Naruto got up slowly turning a little to see actual light coming from behind the wall.
‘A secret passage’ He thought.
Turning his head Naruto stalked the length of the small room to pull on Cloud’s shirt in the small hallway. Cloud whipped around ready to demand what had gotten into Naruto but he was silenced by a hand covering his mouth. Naruto shook his head before quietly telling him to follow.
Cloud did although stiffly only wanting to go back home. Naruto walked back into the room placidity as possible, while Cloud just marched in with his hands crossed. “Come here and look.” Naruto said annoyed. He had wanted to be stealthy but Cloudy had to go and wreak it with his big ass feet.
Cloud came over and examined the door critically, ‘Yeah it’s a passage alright,’ he thought soundlessly. Nodding his head outwardly Cloud turned to leave.
“What are you doing, don’t you want to know what’s down there. Think of the possibilities.” Naruto stressed.
“No I don’t because I just know we are going to get in trouble.” Cloud said, seeing as Naruto had yet to be convinced he went on.
“We are supposed to leave tomorrow and we got what we came here for.” Cloud finished.
“Come on just one peek and then we’ll leave, I know your curious too Strife.” Naruto taunted, already beginning to open the hidden door a little more.
Cloud shook his head and cursed as he too helped Naruto with the door. When they had slipped through, there was nothing but darkness. Blinking away they had to wait for some clarity to come back to their sight. When their eyes cleared they both saw a long stairway leading down into some kind of basement. Going slow and trying not to make a sound, the two traveled down the cold stairs. There were no pictures on the cold damp brick walls, there was hardly any light until they were about half way down. Cloud stopped and tugged on Naruto’s shoulder, listening for any noise that might give someone else’s presence to them. When nothing was heard but a dull mechanical noise they proceeded down again. More then ever Naruto wanted to know what was making that sound and by the looks of it so did Cloud.
They reached the bottom that was filled with old dirt and dust as they slowly started to creep around the cold stone corners. Naruto did this more then Cloud just making a game out of it more then anything. Imagining himself as a secret ninja on a mission.
Naruto suddenly pulled to an halt, while Cloud continued on ahead. His boots clinking along the traversed infested floor.
Naruto was puzzled as he turned a little to the right to see a small room like area. It was filled with glass bottles of different sizes. There were also some tables scattered here and there. Walking in he absently noticed that there were wooden flooring instead of dirt. He turned ready to get Cloud when something caught his eye. In a far corner there was some sort of box like crate. Writing was on it that Naruto couldn’t decipher and there were strange carvings painted on top. What looked like a sun or moon and maybe trees with a cross. The coloring was warped so he couldn’t tell but it could have been black, gold, and maybe red. He also caught a glimpse of silver on the side of the box.
It looked like a lock of some sort with numbers on it. Walking closer to the dark shape, Naruto tapped on the lock curious, only to jump away when the damn thing crumbled. There lying scattered on the disused ground was the locking device.
“Shit I broke it.” Naruto muttered, still staring at the broken lock like it was a mystery all in it’s own.
Shrugging his shoulder not that interested in the box anymore Naruto headed out to find Cloud. Maybe when they left this place he could come back with Cloudy. Rounding the last corner he found the other blonde and Kyo who was next to another door. This time instead of a wooden door like all the others, this one was solid steel.
“Oi looks like you found something.” Naruto said, walking up to the door, examining it.
Grinning Naruto started to pull and soon Cloud silently joined in not wanting to argue a losing battle. The door itself was a lot heavier than it had first looked. It had taken a lot of their strength to just open the damn thing. Grunting Naruto pulled again, slipping through the small indent they had just created. Looking around in awe Naruto went over to some glass bottles near the door, while Cloud and Kyo had opted to walk around. The fox went towards the right where some crates were stacked and Cloud had headed over to a large computer that was right in the middle of the room.
To Cloud it looked like there were four different computers including the larger one all appearing to be connected. Picking up his hand, before turning to Naruto, who was still messing with some of the clear colored beakers. He was going to warn Naruto to not break anything when he dropped his hand on the system board computer on accident losing his footing. Cursing Cloud whipped around frantically but nothing seemed to have changed.
Breathing out loud he smiled towards Naruto, “Don’t drop that...”
However a high pitched sound started to go off cutting into Clouds statement, along with flashing red and orange lights. Cloud backed up as far away from the computer as he could, while Naruto who had been holding said glass breaker until it fell from his hand in fright, started to yell and curse out loud.
Slapping his hands over his ears and glaring at Cloud as he flipped the blonde off. Which looked ridiculous to Cloud since Naruto’s hands were by his ears. Kyo had also been frightened for now his fur was standing on end, slightly snarling at nothing in particular and jumping all around like a jackrabbit.
“God dammit Cloud. What did you do.” Naruto shouted over the noise, heading for the metal door.
Cloud narrowed his eyes right back at Naruto. “It was all your fault in the first place.” Cloud shouted back..
“Let’s go down and have some fun.” Cloud mimicked Naruto flying his hands about and all.
At the same time trying to get to the metal door and away from the high pitched sound.
Giving the evil eye to Cloud, Naruto reached towards the door trying to open it. Frowning, he was trying to figure out who had shut it closed.
‘It was probably Cloud,’ Naruto thought rationally. No need to start panicking and run around screaming. The blonde thought frantically.
Though Cloud was thinking the exact opposite. It’s all Naruto’s fault, he killed us. Cloud shouted in his mind screaming out oaths and running around.
Suddenly the alarms went dead along with the flashing lights. Puzzled the pair turned to each other in the dead eerie silence. Not daring to breath for a few seconds. Shrugging Cloud tried the door again to see if it was still stuck, which it was. Naruto huffing, glared at the door like it
had offended him before he started to walk around the room some more. His blonde spiky hair swaying as he moved. Maybe there was another way out. Running a frustrated hand through his hair Naruto came across some more glass tubes and tables littered with books.
“Way to go Cloudy now we’re stuck here for who knows how long.” Naruto snapped not liking the closed in space one bit.
He saw Kyo walking around, occasionally jumping a crate or table.
“Shut up this was your all your fault, if you had not pushed...” Cloud was saying but Naruto opted to ignore the blonde for right now.
He had better things to do like, what the hell was this for instance, it looked interesting. Cloud turned towards the idiot only to see him staring off to the right. Growling he looked at the computer that was the cause of this in the first place, demanding it to fall apart or burn from his eyes.
Sighing, he walked over to Naruto and Kyo to see what was so special that they both had to look at it. After seeing it he did have to admit it was definitely unique. Right in front of all three of them, there was four to five large glass like tubes; each reaching easy six feet. The width also looked pretty large all around.
In the back of the glass like tubes there were large black and gray machines with small thin wires and plastic tubes that went into the glass tubes themselves. At the bottom one could see black grates in the glass tubes. It appeared the glass tubes could be filled with water and then let drain if one so desired. Last but not least they could see latches or something that could possibly open the tubes from the sides.
Not liking this one bit Cloud and Naruto turned as one and started to search harder for a way out. The more they started to look at this place the more it started to become a lab for experimenting. Naruto scowled even deeper when he saw some needles and other books left out for note taking, like the person or persons were not going to be gone very long.
Hearing a thud Naruto turned fast on his heel only to witness Cloud trip and fall over.
Laughing Naruto pointed at the blonde, he just couldn’t help it, “What’s wrong Cloudy...” But he stopped soon after as he realized he was getting light headed.
Stirring Naruto looked over at Cloud only to see him shake his head. They both stared at each other in spoken agreement and raced towards the metal door, ignoring how the room seemed to spin by itself and the little black dots that were blinking in and out of their vision.
“Open up.” They both cried.
Panicking now that they were in real danger, they both jerked the door willing it to open.
“Don’t breath in.” Cloud said weakly.
Naruto would have retorted if not for him having a dizzy spell and falling to the ground. Banging his knees on the unforgiving surface. Blinking as the darkness closed in, he could only wish that he was anywhere but here. Distantly he heard another thud on the cement floor before blacking out. Only hearing the ringing in his ears and a muttered oath.
The first thing that came to his mind was, its quiet. This in itself would not have been worrisome but something kept nagging in the back of his mind, something important. Groaning he opened his eyes a little and blinked around. He saw the same blue walls and the same window, letting in the afternoon light with a warm breeze. He could feel the same comfortable sheets and covers, this was his room.
Cloud sat up slowly, wincing when his muscles protested. God he just wanted to fall back to sleep.
Getting up he walked past bags full to the brim and luggage, to stare at the window. Rubbing his eye absently he just stared in a stupor wondering why he was even up. Distantly he heard the clattering of pots and pans, and high voices talking and laughing. Just as Cloud turned to go downstairs it hit him like lightning.
All the previous memories had come rushing back to him. “SHIT.” He shouted running down the stairs two at a time, almost falling flat on his face towards the bottom.
All the while shouting and raving, “What happened,” and “How did I get”, “Where’s Naruto.”
Cloud kept going until he landed in the kitchen only to stop dead in his tracks. There his mom stood by the stove a spatula in hand looking extremely puzzled. Next to her by the kitchen table sat Naruto with a fork half way up to his mouth and Kyo waiting patiently for a scrap. Naruto just stared into his blue eyes through several stings of hair looking just as puzzled as his mother.
But that wasn’t the worst thing no shouting at the top of his lungs had paled in comparison to the third person in the small room. The third member was currently standing to the left by the stove, leaning on the counter top. He was tall, very tall and lean not to mention he had long raven hair. But that wasn’t the thing that stood out the most from this man. No it was his deep crimson eyes and the red cape like cloak that wrapped around his frame.
“Oh my little Cloudy are you feeling better.” His mother said.
Looking up and down his frame frowning worriedly. “Maybe you shouldn’t leave for Midgar today. The truck will be leaving in ten minutes anyway.” She finished, still staring at the mute boy.
Cloud for his part was gaping like a fish. First at this crimson eyed man that did not belong in this house then at Naruto. What was going on.
“What the hell...” Cloud started getting really confused.
“Yeah I think Cloud’s alright to go, besides we’re already packed and I did promise Vincent he could hitch a ride with us.” Naruto said casually even as his eyes narrowed towards Cloud. Silently telling him to hold of the questions until further notice.
Cloud for his part was all but confused and wanted nothing but to scream but stopped and thought. Wait leaving, the truck was leaving. Leaving to go to Midgar and would not be back for at least another three to five months.
“No I’m fine so lets get moving before the truck leaves.” Cloud said in a hurry already racing up the stairs.
First things first they needed to grab their things and move to the waiting truck before the asshole left. He would not be stuck here doing nothing, he would not let that happen. But he couldn’t help but feel like he had forgotten something. Anyway he was going to drill his blonde friend on what had happened in that house. And why there was a complete stranger in his home, the guy, Vincent, practically looked like a vampire.
Looking into the Idiot
In a dark room surrounded by moving shadows stood a young man. “Hello.” He shouted looking around puzzled for he had thought he heard something upstairs. Scratching his head he shouted again, “Can anyone hear me. I’m lost.” Said the man into the room. But if he cared to actually look beyond the poor carpeting and the peeling wall paper he would have spotted the doorway opening, leading to the outside. Thus the dubbed, "Idiot" wondered around looking for his rescue team.
