Uchiha Pride; The Breakfast Massacre!

A/N: Heya! Hero here .^_^.

So welcome to the 6th chapter of the Last Uchiha. Let me just say I laughed my ASS off writing this chapter. I've decided to go about portraying Sasuke in a bit of a different way than I've seen around here. I tend to craft his inner personality traits into something less conventional than the cool, calm and perfect person that he often appears to be on the surface. A person like that could easily be a cluttered mess on the inside,I kind of imagine. It's also kind of easy to do,since I feel like its a clean slate that has been completely untouched so I can piece it all together just by building around my new OC's own personality and the predicament the two are in.

So anyway, the Sasuke that you will see in this story will sort of become stripped bare, where we will see lots of raw flaws and emotions that he will learn to exercise,in the presence of his new housemate. I can't wait to watch it all unravel. I really want to capture a side of Sasuke that I've always wanted to see,and I like to think that its plausible that,if someone like Nagisa ever stepped into his life, such a person would get to see such a side. It makes me giggle, just thinking about it,haha.

Anyway,I hope you enjoy~ Please leave your opinions/suggestions/questions and such in a review so I can get a good idea on how this story is progressing.

______________________________________________________________________________

Sasuke couldn't cook to save his life.

He knew this of course, but he'd be damned if he let a woman try to dent his manly pride in the confines of his own kitchen. Yes,these subtle insecurities still tended to rear their heads at the most inconvenient times in the Uchiha's life. Growing up the remainder of his broke life alone had left him to learn to tend to the day to day on his own,and he had been just find with that. Even if his cooking tasted like shit,it never really mattered; he'd been the only one eating it.

So,in all actuallity, the smarter thing to have done would have been to allow the assistance of his new housemate in making tonight's meal. In a way,he'd really been selfish, when he could have easily spared the both of them. So,here they were now, seated at a table with a bowl of steaming hot death staring them right in the face. The raven picked up his spoon and hesitantly prodded at the vegetables swimming around in the broth, making note that,at least the meal actually smelled edible.

Maybe it even looked edible.

But that was his opinion, and it hardly even mattered. Tonight he had a guest and her reaction would be the weight that determined it all. If she would actually finish the meal without gagging once,or if upon the first bite he would need to seek immediate medical attention for her.

Sasuke watched his guest eyeing her meal with no specific look of concern for the death trap placed before her,and tried his best not to make his staring so noticable.

Nagisa lifted her spoon and brought it into her bowl, giving the contents an experimental stir as to cool it off a bit. She noticed the male Uchiha stealing glances her way and she smirked inwardly. Ladling in a small amount, she did her best not to show that she was in the slightest, concerned for her safety regaurding what she was about to eat.

The ingredients in the broth were a little too rich for her taste, the vegetables were under done and the rest of it tasted blandly like water and spices. How anyone could manage to concoct something so that each ingredient, including water could be tasted individually by itself was completely beyond her. However, the food was not gag-worthy,and so she said nothing to Sasuke and continued to eat.

Sasuke felt a sense of relief as he saw within the first few bites that his house mate had not started convulsing violently or collapsed into a heap over the table to foam mindlessly at the mouth due to his extreme inability to cook. If she had thought anything ill of what he had made, then she was keeping it to herself, and for that he was silently grateful. The male Uchiha glanced down at his own bowl and ate thoughtlessly, not even minding what he was putting into his mouth. Somehow, the two of them had managed to consume their given portions, and Sasuke knew better to ask if she wanted more.

Once the woman had disappeared from the kitchen,Sasuke drained the tasteless broth into the sink and dumped the noodles and undercooked vegetables into the trash. It was a waste of food, really, but at the same time,it was a hazard. He'd even given thought of running the horrid scraps through the garbage disposal, spare a few hungry animals that might happen upon the trash the next day.

Later after the meal,Nagisa wandered aimlessly through the homely little front room. Sasuke had disappeared into the hallway past the kitchen where she presumed his room probably was. Every other part of the house she'd explored was so imple and generic, save for the front room, that it felt as though it could belong to anyone. Nothing she'd seen so far had allowed her to expand her narrow opinion on Sasuke, other than the crude behavior he was showing her. Was there anything about this mysterious man besides his pretty boy good looks and ignorant 'charm'?

'If I have to get close to the guy,I guess I should at least make a point to find out,' Nagisa resolved and then stood up from the couch, contemplating the highlights of her day as she sauntered down the forbidden hall.

Go to Konoha. Inflict chaos upon Konoha. Fight Sasuke. Meet the Hokage. Fight Sasuke again, and that was about it. As her bare feet padded the soft carpet, her thoughts traveled back to her spar with the male Uchiha. He had responded to her very first question with what she believed to be honesty. She had displayed her strange, altered kekkei genkai's abilities without any fear of him finding them to be weird, himself. "Different" he'd called it. And he wasn't just being polite; he didn't seem all that capable. Even her senseei, who she knew was polite but also, for the most part, reserved had at first seemed a little discouraged upon the revelation.

But she'd been relieved when he'd gladly embraced it,almost as if the whole ordeal had simply left him momentarily in awe and then it was all right. As thought it was just how it was supposed to be; like he'd said, she was special.

Nagisa stopped at the end of the hall, passing every closed door to come to the only one that was left open. She knew this had to be Sasuke's room, but something suddenly told her to stray away. The open doorway had at first seemed inviting, but now she got the unsettling feeling that this was the lion's den,and it was better to turn tail now. Taking her mind's advice,Nagisa began to turn away when suddenly a dark shadow fell over the floor. Her heart lept in her chest and a flash of heat ran through her body that traded all her warmth for a vacant coldness.

"What is it?" Sasuke's voice asked from behind her with a slight irritated undertone to it.

"Nothing. I..." the femaled Uchiha pouted and crossed her arms over herself and turned around. "Where am I supposed to sleep tonight?"

Sasuke's eyes narrowed at the question, looking almost reluctant to answer as he promptly avoided her oceanic gaze. Without a word,he grabbed the female Uchiha by the arm,her cries of immediate protest falling on deaf ears as he pulled her inside the room.

"W-what are you--?" Nagisa's body tensed up as Sasuke placed two firm hands on her shoulders and wheeled her in through the open door. Once she was standing in the center of the room,he brushed past her and returned to his bed where he'd apparently been going through some kind of scrolls.

It was just like that, that he'd paid no further attention to her, completely ignoring her existance as if his previous actions had not been what put her in this very spot in the first place.

Nagisa crossed her arms and glared poutingly with red sharingan eyes. "Hello?"

"What," he replied dryly; not even a question. His head remained bent, too engrossed in what he was doing to even look in her direction. For the love of all that is pure,he had to be the most impartial person she'd ever met!

"Where am I supposed to--"

Sasuke's hand slammed down firmly on the bed where he sat, still not meeting her angry gaze. Nagisa's eyes widened at the implication behind the curt gesture.

Oh,hell no.

"Fuck that," the Uchiha woman hissed and dug her painted nails into the sides of her forearms.

There was just no way she would sleep willingly in the same bed as this bastard.

Sasuke gave an impartial, one shouldered shrug and opened a new scroll that layed closed by his. Left leg. "You can sleep on the floor or you can sleep in my bed. This house was designed specifically for me,therefore there are no other bedrooms," he added as an afterthought.

Nagisa groaned outwardly and allowed her arms to drop at her sides. If it'd been anyone else. Anyone she'd even met today for that matter, she wouldn't have complained twice. This guy really was a piece of work, and even if sleeping in the same bed with him was an uncomfortable thought,it was still her mission to get as close to him as possible. Even if it meant something she felt a little reluctant about.

~

"Quit moving around, already. You're like a restless child," Sasuke grumbled, rolling over to face the wall by his bed. The female Uchiha clinging to the edge of the bed had yet to fall asleep since the time they'd decided they were too tired to stay awake; and that was two hours ago.

Sasuke could barely stand this, and had to struggle to keep from vocalizing his frustration. Never had he slept beside a more restless person in all his life. During their missions when they were kids,Naruto had done his occasional snoring and unintelligent sleep babble, but even that had only caused him to suffer for a few minutes before the blonde would pass out cold. Sakura would move around as well, and even nudge him while he slept, but he had gotten the grating feeling that those little gestures had been completely intentional.

"Fire...Fireball...Fireball..." Sasuke sat up in alarm and looked over at the mumbling girl, half expecting her to be making handseals in her sleep. He sighed to himself and settled back down on his side of the bed when he'd discovered that she was doing no such thing. Nevertheless,if she managed to keep this up, there would be all sorts of instances where he would have to wake up,and ultimately neither of them would get a proper night's rest.

The blue-ish glow coming from the window above the bed casted down on them, especially shining upon his unconcious new house mate. The light poured over her fair skin, illuminating her face as the shadows redefined the countours of places it did not reach. Sasuke rolled over to look at her more so,for whatever reason finding her sleeping form to be somewhat of a spectacle. Perhaps it was because she lay still now, that he could take notice of the way her dark lashes casted soft shadows on her cheeks,or the fullness of her lips when they were not formed into that pout she seemed to wear the entire time he had been with her today. Was she someone who pouted all the time? Or was she just unsatisfied with her current situation?

The other was probably the truth, but she would just have to deal with it. Naruto had been so thoughtful as to place the last surviving memeber of his clan in his hands, and Sasuke meant to gradually come to the understanding behind her sudden appearance; why she existed.

In all of thirteen years,he'd lived with the idea of being the only one to realize his ideals for plotting revenge against the man that had ripped apart his life, with the power and intelligence that Sasuke had always admired him for. He'd lived alone and spited alone, completely unaware or totally dismissed to the fact that there might be just one more survivor out there doing the exact same things. But here was a woman who'd all too conveniently came from nowhere. Sasuke had to wonder; he needed to wonder.

The male Uchiha continued to gaze at his new house mate who slept, oblivious to the fact that someone was so curiously gazing upon her. Everything about her seemed pure and honest; good natured, though a little rough around the edges. It was just too conveniently good that his mind began to revolve around the small voice that urged him to realize that something was wrong.

His eyes narrowedd at the thought as the sleeping woman curled two fingers to her lips and mumbled breathlessly before dropping her hand down to her side. The Uchiha resisted the strange, brief urge to reach out to take her hand, but the moment had come and gone. Why had he thought of such a thing anyway?

Did everything always have to be wrong? He was a shinobi who had a mind and a sharp sense for seeing the pessimist's point of view. Maybe it was just in his distrusting nature to see the fault in every good thing. Nagisa's mouth twisted into a pout and he paused in mid thought to sudy her expectantly.

"Your food...tastes like shit..."

And there it was.

The ghost of admiration on the raven's face melted away into a deep scowl as he turned over soundlessly and closed his eyes.

Maybe it was better to just go with his instincts...

~

Nagisa awoke early the next morning with rays of sunlight beaming down on her from the uncurtained window. How someone could ever sleep with all that light on them, she was uncertain. With a great yawn, the female Uchiha rolled over with her arms outstretched, only to find that her new companion--Sasuke,was it? was not there. She heard the sound of movement from across the room and she turned her head, blue eyes readjusting their sight.

Sasuke stood in the doorway, already dressed with his hands shoved into the pockets of his black pants. An unsettling wave of nostalgia dfited over the female Uchiha at the sight of this, immediately sobering her from any last traces of fatigue.

"Hi," she mumbled groggily, not even expecting to get an answer. He did not disappoint, and turned away from the doorway to disappear down the hall. Nagisa rolled onto her back again, sprawled out as if she were floating over the calm waves of a black, fabricated sea. She snorted at the truth in her prediction long after the man had left, like a delayed reaction. She'd only spent one day with the guy and she was already picking up on various habits that accompanied his wavering demeanors. Nagisa figured it'd be no time before she'd analyzed him completely. Befriending the bastard would be a whole 'nother challenge.

After rolling around in bed in procrastination, and dread among other things,Nagisa finally got out of bed and zombied her way into the bathroom where she could clean up. She figured that if she wanted a decent breakfast, she would have to wait until they went into the village,or somehow convince the possessive Uchiha to allow her to use the kitchen for a bit.

The smell of something burning alerted Nagisa's nose and she wasted no more time in making her way to the kitchen. Upon her entrance she immediately became aware of the rising black smoke coming from the stove in the corner of the room, followed by the offending smell of burnt eggs.

Oh,ho ho. Things could only get better from there.

Not far from the stove sitting before the toaster, appeared to be two pieces of toast, burnt and crumbled beyond all recognition. As she inched closer to the frying pan on the still-heated stove, she was suddenly attacked by the spitting and popping of hot grease on top of which appeared to be the remnants of several mutilated pieces of bacon. Clapping a hand over her mouth,Nagisa tried not to look in the direction of her flustered male counterpart, who stood grumbling inwardly to himself with a spatula gripped tightly in his hands. Staring down at the pathetic arrangement,Nagisa wasn't sure of whether to laugh or take pity on the poor man.

It really was a wonder how he managed to properly get a decent meal in everyday.

She decided to spare the brooding Uchiha the embarressment and crossed the room to pry the abused utensil from his hand. To her suprised,he let go with ease and no fuss, but refused to even so much as give her a scowl. His head turned to hide his face from view, though she could have sworn that for a fleeting second, she saw the faintest tinge of red in his cheeks.

Aw. So tinman did have a heart.

Without saying a word, the troubled Uchiha sulked out of the room, leaving Nagisa to further inspect the crime scene.

Breakfast was murdered.

The female Uchiha sighed warily and shook her head as she giggled. She entertained the thought of the now glum-looking man, just moments ago attempting to put together a decent breakfast only to become extremely irritated with the whole process of it all, with this becoming the final result. It was probable that he had noticed her attempt to hide the disdain the previous night when trying to consume the dinner he'd made. Had he been trying to make up for it today?

'What a strange guy...' Nagisa sighed again and began to wash all of the dishes thoroughly in the sink after scraping off the burnt food. While breakfast had failed a first time, she attempted to redeem the chore and had it all done before late morning.

Sasuke had come and ate quitely, saying nothing about the recreation of the meal he'd had in mind. Nagisa stole no glances at the man,and went about enjoying her first meal of the day. After doing the dishes, she smiled inwardly to herself at the plate scraped clean on the edge of the counter.

He'd been grateful for her interference; but of course,he'd never tell her that.

"Dude,I'm telling you. Her eyes are blue,"

"No,man. All Uchihas have black eyes,"

"How many Uchihas have you even see? And no one has black eyes, they're dark brown,"

"So,they aren't blue?"

"They are!"

"But you just said--"

Naruto and Kiba quarreled endlessly, early that afternoon as they roamed through the streets of Konoha. It was a rare opportunity for the Seventh Hokage to leave his office, but he'd managed to complete all of his work in time for the occasion; a very special celebration among the four teams of childhood friends to welcome a new member into their circle.

The four teams met at a restaurant with the capacity to hold all thirteen people into a group in one area. Naruto and Kiba had only just arrived, and were promptly greeted by Sai,Ino and for whatever reason,a very elated Sakura. Naruto momentarily mused over their unfathomable relationship,as he still could not fully wrap his mind around it,but once again realized that it didn't necessarily bother him.

Sai offered one of his fake smiles to the two men, then reminded Naruto that he looked like a transvestite with the disapprovement of his haircut, and then told Kiba he smelled like a mutt. To say the least, this immediately ruffled feathers but the pink haired kunoichi did her best to subside tensity of waves that rolled off of the group that indicated that a vicious scrap was about to ensue.

Others began to arrive, coming in pairs or larger groups. Chouji arrived, who took Ino and they laughed and talked hand in hand. Naruto found that the sight of them actually fit quite well. How he ever came to such a conclusion,he didn't understand; but it worked. Lee and TenTen arrived shortly after, with Neji in tow.

Upon the entrance of Hinata, who was accompanied by Shino,Naruto had to practically hold Kiba down and briefly remind him there was nothing to go on howling about; that she was his, after all and they'd been together for at least two years now.

And that was all,as far as casual party guests went. Now,all that was left was Naruto's best friend, and the Uchiha's new female companion. Naruto settled himself within his conversationally engaged friends, though the kept his eyes searching for the moment of the two Uchiha's arrival. After several minutes had gone by,he began to feel impatient.

Where were they,anyway?

~

"Lunch? You're taking me to lunch?"

Sasuke sighed, having repeated his once syllabled reponse one too many times. "Yes," he said, hopefully for the last time. The female Uchiha gave a frustrated groan.

"Damnit..."

"What are you so worked up about?"

Nagisa looked at him with a reluctant frown. "I...I don't have anything else to wear..."

A sigh fell from the male Uchiha's lips. That was her predicament? The solution couldn't have been easier. "Wait here," he told the woman, pushing away from the doorframe in which he stood and then disappeared down the hall. For whatever reason, which he didn't believe had anything to do with fate,he had held onto some things; some very old things.

He kept them in the back of his closet for safe keeping, assuming that he'd never look at them again, and that there was no one else more deserving around to have them.

Once he'd reached his bedroom,he walked over to the closet and pulled the two doors open. To the very far left in the depths behind the first door,he began to rummage. Everything from the front, backward, was embarressingly too small to fit his slightly more muscular, well defined and masculine frame.

Nagisa, however, was just petite enough that these could easily hug her body in a way that she seemed accustomed to welcoming. Under the jacket, the fishnet and whatever else there was,it would be fine. Though for a brief moment he wondered how her chest was going to manage to fit into...

Uh.

He shook the thought away quickly and grabbed a black tee with the trademark family emblem on the back, and returned to the room to meet Nagisa. " here," he said, tossing her the shirt. "Put it on. Then we're leaving,"

The woman gave him a skeptical look but complied after Sasuke shut the door.

And now the two Uchiha walked the streets of Konoha side by side, neither of them finding anything much to say. Nagisa stole curious glances at the silent man walking next to her. The mention of lunch in Konoha had bee a spurr of the moment with him,but she simply figured his pride had suffered enough from the two failed meals, and another that had been fixed for him. Nagisa was perfectly fine with that thought. She'd already gotten a taste of the food in the village and knew she'd be a fool to pass up the pleasure of enjoying it again.

When they reached what appeared to be their destination,Sasuke opened the restaurant's door and allowed it to begin closing until Nagisa caught it and followed him quickly inside. All sorts of delicious aromas floated in the air,and the navy-eyed Uchiha momentarily had to fight the urge to linger there and relish them, and continue to follow her companion around the tables in the room.

"Uh...hey,Uchiha?" Nagisa asked uncertainly. She'd neglected to actually ask him the reason why they were here now, rather than simply guessing. He gave her a brief glance over his shoulder, but said nothing which hindered her to press on. Sasuke stopped so abruptly that Nagisa came close to bumping right into his slightly taller form. Appologizing habitually, she righted herself and peeked around him to see what had brought him to a halt. "H-hey...Uchiha?" she trailed off,and then blinked in astonishment.

"Suprise!"
