Chapter 7

The first day of the rest of their year …

“Mmmph.” Temari whined as she rolled over, trying to get away from the sunlight. “Mehh.”

“If your awake enough to speak, you should get up, it’s good for your body.” Sasuke said as he started to pull on his shorts. “Sakura’s awake, and Naruto’s getting up.”

Temari laid on her side until she recognized the sound of rustling clothes. She sat up despite herself and looked right at him. Sasuke was putting on his shirt. She smiled slightly, ’I wonder who’s more built, you Sasuke; or Naruto.’ The smile that played her lips told Sasuke that her thoughts were roaming.

“You don’t mind me getting changed in the room do you?” he asked, suddenly thinking that the Temari he knew, or thought he knew; might actually be weary or conservative.

“Pssh. Change wherever, and however you like.” she said as she rolled out of bed and stood across from him. “If I’m allowed to do the same.” She smiled as she walked over to the dresser.

“Of course.” Sasuke said as he stood there, amused by this moment. ‘Will she actually go as far as I believe she will?’.

He watched with interest as Temari turned her back to him and started to pull off her sleep top. When he didn’t make a move to turn she seemed to sensed it. For a moment she seemed to be enjoying herself as the fabric was pulled up over her head. But then suddenly it was pulled back down as she hugged herself.

“Sasuke …” she started with a tremble in her voice.

“I’m sorry.” he said as he quickly and quietly left the room.

“What’s wrong?” Gaara asked catching Sasuke‘s look.

“Temari’s …” he really didn’t know the word he was looking for, and felt like a fool for it. “Hurt?” He tried as he covered his heart with a hand. He watched as Gaara scowled at the motion and at him, then looked to the door.

“Hey half pints move it.” Kankuro’s voice said as he came up to them in the hall. “Go talk down-stairs.” he smiled at the look they gave him. He knew that he was getting them out of a serious conversation, but he knew that Temari wouldn’t want them talking about her problems. At least not right outside her bedroom door. “I said move it … man I hate children.”

“This child can kill you.” Gaara and Sasuke said in unison. Their faces of brief shock were enough to make Kankuro laugh as he walked past them with ease.

“Aww, you two are sounding more and more alike. How sweet.” Kankuro said as he walked into the bathroom and shut the door.

“How have you managed to not kill him already?” Sasuke asked, with humour ringing in his voice.

“I don’t know.” Gaara said quietly. But the slight smile that played his lips told that he enjoyed it when his brother teased him like that. It really did make him feel normal.

“Hey.” Naruto said as he joined them in the hall. “What’s up?”

“You …” Gaara started as he looked up at the young man with narrowed eyes.

“Hehe, sorry … I started to snore again didn’t I?” Naruto asked as he scratched the back of his head. “You could have rolled me over.” The look that Naruto received at his words made him wish he could take it back. Gaara looked furious, but then he sighed and started to walk down-stairs.

“Better watch it dobe, he might just kill you.” Sasuke said as he started to turn. “If you could be quiet at least when you slept, you’d have at least one good quality about you.” Sasuke teased lightly as he started to follow Gaara.

“Better watch it … bleh! Stupid Sasuke.” Naruto muttered as he headed down-stairs.

“What’s that smell?” Temari asked as she came down-stairs. “It smells amazing.”

“French Toast.” Sakura offered as she put the ones from the pan, onto a plate. “I think you’ll like it,” a small smile. “I know Gaara does.”

Temari looked over to where her little brother sat with Naruto and Sasuke and smiled. He was scowling at Sakura around a fork full of food.

“Here you go Temari.” Sakura said as she handed the plate to her.

She took the plate and sat, for a moment she just looked at it. The bread looked weird, and syrup was slathered all over it, topped with cinnamon. For a moment a look of hesitation crossed her face.

“Eat Temari.” Gaara told her as he started to gulp down another piece of it.

She took a bite and was amazed, she had never tasted anything like this before. “Wow, this is good.” Temari said as she forced herself to slow down to eat it.

“Here Kankuro,” Sakura started as she handed him a plateful. “I’m glad you like it Temari.”

“Sakura always treats Sasuke, Kakashi, and I with good food.” Naruto smiled as he wolfed down another piece.

“No matter where we are, she can manage to make a home cooked meal.” Sasuke offered as he ate.

“She’s amazing.” Naruto gushed as he shot her a smile.

“I will never know how I refused you when we were younger Naruto.” she teased as she made another batch. “Gaara do you want more?”

“Yes please.” he said quietly as he held out his plate.

“One or two more pieces?” Sakura asked already putting two on.

“Two.” he said quietly as he looked away from his siblings smiling faces.

“Here you go.” Sakura said as she handed him the plate. “Besides Gaara is everybody happy with what they got?”

After a moment of nobody saying something Sasuke spoke. “Yeah I think we’re good Sakura. You can make your breakfast now.”

She favoured the group with a smile and started to make hers.

Just as she was finishing up she heard somebody walk up to her, and knew it had to be Gaara even before she turned around. “Yes Gaara?” she asked sweetly as she placed the third piece of toast she had made, knowingly on his plate.

“Thank you.” he said even quieter and walked back over to the table.

“Wholly cow. How many pieces did you have?” Naruto asked as he looked at Gaara.

“Enough.” Gaara said as he savoured his last piece of French Toast.

“Seven.” Sasuke told as he looked at the smaller man. “I didn’t think you could pack it away like that Gaara.”

Naruto watched as Gaara scraped the drippings of the syrup and cinnamon from across the plate into a single area, and sopped it all up with his last bite of toast. He then looked over at Temari and Kankuro, their faces were calm and held smiles. ’They’ve really gown as a family.’ Naruto thought as he looked back at Gaara. ’As I have grown with mine.’ He looked to Sasuke and Sakura as she sat down, finally being able to eat.

“I love you.” Naruto said as he looked at Sasuke and Sakura. His face covered in a blush as he realized that he had spoken his words out loud.

“Love you too?” Sasuke offered as Sakura nodded, not wanting to speak with food in her mouth.

“I thought talk like that was only spoken in the bedroom.” Kankuro teased as he looked at only Naruto and Sasuke. “I suppose Kohona does things differently … more publicly I guess?”

“Shut up.” Sasuke said as he playfully scowled.

“Yeah!” Naruto said with a harrumph.

“So, what’s there to do here?” Naruto asked as he finished putting away the dishes with Kankuro.

“What do you mean?” The older male asked as he looked at the blond.

“Well … where do you train? Or what do you do for fun?” Naruto asked as he looked over at the sitting area where Sakura, Temari, and Gaara sat. “What do you do for entertainment?”

“Uhh, I would suppose do the same things that you’d do back in Kohona.” Kankuro said as he started to head over to where his sister and brother sat.

“Hmm yeah, I guess.” Naruto said as he began to follow. “Hey, where’s Sasuke.”

“He’s taking a shower.” Sakura said as she watched the two newcomers sit down.

“You look antsy Naruto.” Temari offered as she looked at him. “You want to go shopping with me?”

For a moment Naruto’s eyes dimmed, then brightened back up. “Pardon?” he asked as he looked at her.

“Come shopping with me Naruto.” Temari said as she stood. “You can come too Kankuro.” she said when she noticed her brothers smug smile.

“At least I can show him where all the hot girls hang out.” Kankuro said as he grudgingly followed.

Sakura and Gaara watched as the three of them left. Part of her wanted to go too, but she knew that she would feel awkward getting up and rushing out the door to ask if she could go as well. ’Should have said something when Temari was telling Naruto or Kankuro to go. Oh well.’

“You can go if you want.” Gaara said as he looked at her.

“No, that’s okay.” Sakura said as she sat on the couch. “Soo, what do you wanna talk about?”

“Hmm.”

“Hey wanna go see a movie?” Sakura started as she grabbed up the Sand Village News. “Ohh, there’s a movie playing that I would want to see … but ….”

“But what?” Gaara asked as he looked at her. “What’s the movie.”

“I don’t think you’d like it.” Sakura said as she scanned for other movies.

“Try me.”

“Well …” ’God this is embarrassing, shouldn’t have said anything.’ “The movie I would want to see is titled, Another way, another time.”

Gaara waited to be told as to why he wouldn’t like the movie, but when none came he raised an eyebrow at her. Finally when that didn’t get his desired result he asked. “Why wouldn’t I want to see the movie?”

“Well … it’s a Romance Gaara.” Sakura started. “Most men don’t like them.”

“What’s a … romance?” Gaara asked the word rolling over his tongue.

“It’s a movie where people or persons fall in love.” Sakura answered smoothly. She hoped he would understand.

Gaara sat a moment flabbergasted. “There are movies where people fall in love?” leans forward a bit. “Do you see them fall in love?”

“Well, yes to both Gaara.” Then Sakura understood. She understood that he had never known affection by anybody other than a family member. ’Hell, he would probably like the movie.’

“Lets go.” Gaara said as he stood.

“Have fun.” came Sasuke’s voice.

“Oh Sasuke, you don’t want to come to?” Sakura asked as she noticed him.

“Nah, I think I’ll walk around town and get to know things.” A grin at Sakura. “Also Romance movies are meant to be watched only in couples, I’d just get in the way.”

“Ah!” Sakura blushed as she looked at Gaara. ’Why did he have to say that … does he know something I don’t?’

“You guys had better be going.” Sasuke said as he watched the two of them leave.

With them gone he laid down on the couch. With his eyes closed he listened. He could hear the breeze, and the deep loud sound of what could be a bird. He could feel the dryness in the air, and the smell of sand that was well set into everything. This calm was far different than the calm in Kohona. In Kohona it felt thick and warm like a blanket, yet gentle and light like a breeze though leaves. But this was dry and spicy, it really did feel different.

He placed his hands under his head as he stretched out a bit more straining to hear any other sounds. Any wildlife. Suddenly everything seemed far to quiet and lifeless, the lack of birds, the lack of rushing water, and mainly; the lack of green nature smell. Right then Sasuke experienced home sickness, in a way; he had never experienced it before.

Aoshi4misao - well, some people would feel maybe a little more comfortable sleeping with a totally normal (phfft normal) male than one with something inside, especially if the last time you really saw them, they turned all freaky. I just chalk it up to a personal call.

His beautiful - I am updating!!! I am glad you enjoyed the chapter, and yes … poor poor Sakura. (just to say that happened to me once, god it was horrible, didn’t know what the hell was wrong until I felt like I was about to die, then I went and woke up my friend up who practically screamed at my appearance and yeah … I was allergic to something in the food we had eaten for dinner.)
