Just Can't Sleep

I don’t own Naruto nor do I profit from my fics.

It was early in the morning. Kakashi hadn’t slept much that night; his mind was in a thousand different places. He rolled over and watched Anko, she looked so peaceful when she was asleep. She looked as if she were some sort of angel; she looked innocent, untouched and unharmed. He didn’t understand why anyone would ever want to harm this woman, why anyone would ever want to see her suffer. He shoved the thought aside and watched her sleep. On a normal day at home, he would wake her up and fuck her senseless, but he didn’t. He let her sleep, besides he had lots on thinking to do, or maybe he had done too much of that.

He carefully got out of bed and searched in the dark for his black pants and gray long sleeved shirt. Pakkun was sound asleep on the bathroom rug so he didn’t disturb him. Kakashi wasn’t certain how cool it would be downstairs in the house so he took a blanket off of one of the chairs in the bedroom and headed downstairs. He took it upon himself to get the fire going in the massive fireplace. He figured it would help to relax him. He looked at the clock: 6:47. It was early. He covered up in the blanket and waited for the fire to heat up. His mind began to race; he remembered when he had first met Anko, how she had so cleverly gotten him in bed with her, and how she had even more cleverly won him over entirely. He thought about everyone he had ever loved in his life and how they were gone. He thought about how he loved Anko…and how life would go back to the hell that was his private prison without her. He continuously tossed the same thoughts around and around.

“Hey, you’re up early.” It was Kurenai’s voice. She was coming down the staircase. She walked over to him and quickly rubbed her hand in white hair, spreading it all over the place.

“Hi, pregnant Kurenai.” Kakashi said to her. “I think I’m going to start calling you that. Hey, I never hugged you the other night after you told us you were pregnant. I mean babies aren’t really my thing, but I’m still happy for you.” Kakashi got up form the couch and hugged his long time friend.

“God, you are in so much better shape than Asuma, there is just nothing but muscle to you.” Kurenai said releasing him. Kakashi returned to the couch.

“Anko keeps me that way.” He told her. Kurenai knew exactly what he meant.

“So…speaking of Anko.” Kurenai didn’t say another word. She wanted to know if Kakashi had asked her yet.

“I haven’t asked her Kurenai. I’m…I’m scared, quite frankly.” He said.

“Scared of what.” Kurenai asked. She had gotten out for bed to get Asuma medicine for nausea. She pulled it out of the cabinet and sat beside Kakashi before returning upstairs.

“She’s all I have….I mean everything. And if I ask her….that and it scares her or if she feels that it’s not for her and I lose her, then life isn’t going to be worth it, Kurenai. I really can’t take losing everyone who is important to me. I can’t stand the pain any longer. And this is hard for me to say, it truly is. Kakashi nervously wound up in the blanket again.

“Kakashi, you go back upstairs and get in that bed with the woman you love. When the dawn breaks you ask her what you need to, she’s not going to fight it. Please, Kakashi she won’t and you have got to do this. You two need each other. Now, go.” Kurenai told him. Kakashi sighed heavily. Although he still seemed uneasy about the situation at hand, he knew that Kurenai was right. He had to do it, before she slipped away from him.

“Very well pregnant Kurenai. My life will be different the next time you see me.” He reassured her getting up from the couch.

“You’re life won’t be different Kakashi, it will finally be complete.” Kurenai said as she had already climbed half of the staircase. “Goodnight.” She said and disappeared up the stairs. It wasn’t long that Kakashi left the fire burning and returned to bed, where Anko still slept peacefully. She hadn’t even moved. Kakashi had never before in his life been this terrified, and there wasn’t much in life that he feared. He passed the time by rehearsing the line over and over in his head…it sounded so distant, as if they were words never meant to be uttered. It was sink or swim…it would only be a matter of time before the purple haired angel awoke.

Okay, sorry this chapter was kinda short. It’s just that this story is about to climax in its grand finale. I reeeeally hope you all like the ending I have prepared!
