The next morning, Sasuke woke up a little earlier than usual. He rolled over to check the clock sitting on top of the TV set. It read 6:30. Sasuke got up and folded his blanket into a neat square. He went to the kitchen and made tea for himself, knowing that Sakura wouldn’t be up for another half hour or so. Sasuke’s tea was brewing when there was a knock on the door. Sasuke opened it just a crack so only his head was shown. It turned out to be a messenger.
“This is for you.” The messenger handed Sasuke a scroll and left. Sasuke closed the door with his heel while he opened the scroll. “COME BACK TO MY OFFICE IN THE MORNING. ~TSUNADE” was what the scroll read.
‘That’s weird,’ he thought. ‘We just went to her office yesterday. Why would she ask us to come back? Is something wrong with Sakura?’
Sasuke decided to wait for Sakura to wake up. In the meantime, he prepared a quick breakfast to go: this weird breakfast sandwich using the toast and peanut butter as the buns, scrambled eggs and sausage and he got a paper cup for the orange juice. Sakura came out of her room in her dress, looking at Sasuke in the oddest way.
“Why are you up so early? What’s going on?” she asked. He explained to her that they’d have to go back to the Hokage because he received a scroll from her. Sakura nodded, breakfast sandwich and juice in hand, slipped into her shoes and out the door they went, gulping down their mediocre breakfast on the way.
Just as they arrived at Tsunade’s office, Tsunade flew out with a load of paperwork, causing Sasuke to run right into her very large breasts. They both fell backwards and fell right on their asses and Tsunade threw her work into the air.
Not only were they embarrassed, Asuma, Shizune, Kurenai, Kakashi and Genma saw the whole thing. They burst out laughing, as well as Sakura. Sasuke helped Tsunade pick up her papers and they both knocked heads. This made the gang laugh even harder.
For the first time since her attack, Sakura got hurt, but not by an attacker, but her sides. She laughed so loud and so heartily that Kakashi stopped the others from laughing to take a look at Sakura. They looked at her in awe, seeing her smile and laugh after that Uchiha bastard tortured her.
Kakashi, being the perverted gentleman he is, helped a flustered Tsunade pick up her papers while Sasuke fought off the pretty pink blush from the whole ordeal. After everyone got back to their usual self, save for Sasuke who’s still fighting off the blush, the gang left Tsunade, Sasuke and Sakura alone to talk.
“S-Sasuke, Sak-Sakura, please step into my office,” she stuttered. ‘Why am I stuttering? I am the Hokage! I shouldn’t be this nervous.’
After they both stepped inside, Sakura was the first to speak. “Hokage, why are we here? We just saw you yesterday. Is something wrong?”
Tsunade immediately remembered why she asked them to come here. Now she had to figure out a way to tell the poor girl, and fast.
‘Okay, here we go. There’s no turning back.’ ‘Well, you could lie and say that the messenger brought it to the wrong place,’ her inner mind battled. ‘No, she must be told, no matter how heartbreaking.’
“Sakura,” she started to say. She remembered Sasuke being in the room too. She thought for a minute. Maybe she should tell Sakura in private.
“Sasuke,” she started again, “could you wait outside for a moment?” Sasuke complied and stood outside. He didn’t hear a single word they said, leaving him to his thoughts.
He sank to the ground, his back against the wall. ‘There has to be something wrong with Sakura. That look in the Hokage’s eyes isn’t there for nothing.’ Sasuke searched his brain for possible answers.
‘She…could be fine actually. Maybe it’s a girl thing, that’s why the Hokage asked me to wait outside. She…might not be able to have sex for awhile. Gah! What am I thinking!? I wouldn’t have sex with her anyway!’ ‘You sure about that? You saw her body in the shower.’ ‘That was just a silhouette.’ ‘So what? You want to and you know it. Plus, you wouldn’t say that you wouldn’t unless you wanted to.’
Sasuke’s minds battled for a while before he focused it on more important matters.
‘What if…what if she’s pregnant with Itachi’s child?’ He grimaced at this thought and his heart almost stopped beating. ‘What if she’s carrying that bastard’s baby? What would I do then?’
Sakura was the only girl who’s ever been relatively close to him simply because they were on the same team. He cared for the girl but he’s repressed it since he knew he cared. What would he do if he was carrying is sworn enemy’s child?
‘Would you kill it?’ Sasuke froze. ‘What?’ ‘Would you kill her baby? The first child she’s ever bore? No matter how ‘innocent’ this baby may be, its father is still Itachi. And what if she doesn’t want it killed? What will you do then?’ Sasuke chased it around his mind like a cat preying on a small mouse. His train of thought broke as Sakura stepped outside with the fakest smile he’s ever seen.

Sasuke left the two ladies alone to talk. Sakura felt a little uncomfortable, as if this ominous silence, other than the creaks from the door, meant that what she’d know today would change her life forever. Sakura was worried. Unknown to her, she and the Uchiha outside were having similar thoughts.
‘What if something’s wrong with me? Am I pregnant with…Itachi’s baby?’ Sakura started to breathe a little heavily, not wanting to know what Tsunade wanted to talk about.
Tsunade noticed her breathing and tried to calm her down. “Sakura, take deep breaths. That’s it.” Her reassuring voice told the logical side of her brain that everything would be alright, but a small part of her brain still said that something’s wrong.
“Sakura, you may want to sit down for this.” Sakura sat down in the nearest chair and intently stared at Tsunade. Tsunade was having a tough time telling her the bad news. It was hard to say something so heartbreaking in such a reassuring and a sensitive manner. This situation was delicate. She had no idea of how to say it so she forced it out of her mouth.
“Sakura,” she started. Tsunade was sure that Sasuke could feel the tension outside. “Sakura, when you were taken by Itachi…” Sakura leaned forward in her chair. What made her feel so tense? Is it the news Tsunade was about to tell her?
“Sakura, Itachi took away your future children.” Sakura was confused. ‘My future children? What does-’ Tsunade knew that look. She tried to explain it in the gentlest way possible.
“Sakura…what I meant was that…you can’t have children.” That was it. Sakura fell back into her chair and stared at her hands on her lap. ‘I…can’t have children?’ Sakura felt tears form in her eyes but she held them back. She didn’t even think of this kind of outcome. She thought the worst news Tsunade would give her was that she’s pregnant with that bastard’s baby.
She’s held back many tears in her lifetime, from her big fight with Ino, the way Sasuke would brush her off in the past, watching Sasuke’s back walk away, her parents’ death…this became too much for her, but she held back her tears anyway. Her body became so accustomed to not shedding any tears that when she finally felt that she would, she wouldn’t.
“Sakura, I’m sorry.” Sakura looked up. She smiled a small smile and shook her head. “No, it’s not your fault. It was…” Sakura couldn’t even bring herself to say the bastard’s name. The bastard who Sasuke hated so much, and now she’s come to hate him too.
“Yes, it was my fault Sakura! Dammit, I should’ve been there to protect you! You were my responsibility!” Sakura shook her head again. “No, it wasn’t. And I’m not. I can take care of myself…for the most part.” She added that last part quietly.
Tsunade kneeled down beside her and placed her hand on her shoulder. “I know that you can take care of yourself, it’s just that I don’t want you to live life alone. That burden’s too hard to carry all by yourself. It doesn‘t matter how strong you are Sakura, it’s just too hard.” Sakura nodded and stood up. Tsunade stood up beside her.
“Thank you for this chat Hokage. I’m sorry for wasting your time.” Before Tsunade had a chance to say anything, Sakura was already turning the doorknob.

When Sakura stepped outside, he stood up. He took one look at Sakura’s face. It was the fakest smile he’s seen. He’d seen a lot of fake smiles, especially before he left to find Orochimaru for power. ‘Something must be wrong, but what? Is she…is she really pregnant?’ Sasuke masked his real emotions with his usual bored, stoic face. “Thank you for coming, the both of you. You are dismissed.” They said their goodbyes and left.
