When Darkness Turns to Light

Part 1

Dark clouds moved through the cold night’s air. Loud rumbles of thunder are the only warnings that the storm has almost arrived. The frigid world below seems to ignore their threats as most people are already safe in their homes away from the frosty air. The few people still out on the roads drive a little faster in hopes to out run the storm and make it home.

Though not everyone is driving fast to out run the storm. No, some, like the driver of the black 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo, are trying to out run something else. Something more chilling then the winter’s night air. Something more ominous then the crashing thunder and more startling then the spears of lightening. Unfortunately, one cannot out run the past, but that doesn’t stop him from trying.

Onyx-eyes watched as the world around him turned into more of a blur, as his foot slowly pushed the accelerator to the floor. Things outside the car were no longer distinguishable objects, but instead a blur of dark colours. He knew when he past threw a town because streaks of light would mix with the blurs.

He didn’t care or take notice. It didn’t matter, he had already past through many cities, too many to even count. His focus was only on the road before him and escaping the past that refused to stay buried.

A past that seemed to haunt him no matter where he went or what he did. A person that haunted him for the last 17 years of his life. His brother.

A person that he so foolishly looked up to during his childhood. Itachi. The prefect son, brother, and businessman…or at least that’s how it seemed. Itachi was the next in line to inherit his father’s company. It only made sense, Itachi was a genius and the older of the two sons. Itachi was breed to be prefect. Unlike himself. He was born to be there human son. One that could make mistakes without ridicule. He didn’t have to be perfect. He could cry when he was hurt and his mom would kiss it better. He could get less the 100% on his test and his father would still be proud. He was not perfect and that’s why Itachi hated him. His brother hated everyone that was not perfect, but because he himself was perfect no one knew. Not until it happened. Not until that night. The night of the perfect murders. The night of the perfect suicide. The night he became the last Uchiha.

The blood pooled around the bodies, it’s stench hung in the air. He had seen his parents murder and watched his brother’s suicide. His brother’s last words still haunt him to this day. Words that he can remember as clearly and as the hum of his car.

“Perfect. That is what you have to be. Foolish little brother I have been perfect for all my life. You have made mistakes all your life and yet everyones love was given to you. Because I am perfect I would never receive such love. That’s what perfect is, to be loveless. Now foolish little brother it is your turn to be perfect. You have a company to run, school to finish, the Uchiha name to keep up, and since the only serving member of the Uchiha clan is yourself you need to produce heirs. You will be a successful businessman, an honorable member of society and respected husbanded and father. You all have everything you ever wanted… except love. The people of this world will envy you, follow you, respect you, want to be you, but they will never love you. Not even the wench you choose to produce your heirs will love you. For you, foolish little brother, are now perfect.”

No matter how fast he went the darkness was catching up, the past was catching up.

Looking up ahead the raven saw the horizon start to lighten. The darkness was almost over and his running would stop as the sun rose into the sky. Then he would return home, for he did have a wealthy business to run during the day. The pedal was still pressed to the floor as his drove at the dawn. He waited for the first rays of the sun the peak over the Earth, for then the darkness would be chased away again and he would be safe from his past for another 11 hours. Held his breath waiting for it. His temporary freedom.

Then the sun came. It’s first ray spilling over the frost bitten land. He felt the weight of his past lift slightly.

‘The light has finally come.’

The road was also covered with the frosty ice and as the light hit it was reflected in every direction. Onyx-eyes closed at the sudden blinding light. His foot moved from the accelerator to the brake, but as his touched it the car lost control. The jet-black vehicle started to spin wildly on the ice. The car flew off the Highway. For a few seconds everything was slowed down the raven blinked slowly as a feeling of weightlessness hit him. It felt nice, no pressure. Somewhere in the back on his mind he realized this was because he car was falling into the steep ditch on the side of the road, but right then he didn’t care. The feeling didn’t last long as he soon came to bone crushing stop.

He hung up side down in what use to be a 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo. He wasn’t sure how long he hung there before he saw movement of several pairs of feet to his left. He tried to turn his head but it wouldn’t move. He watched drops of red liquid fell onto the cracked window of his car. He felt no pain, heard no sound, any movement that he saw earlier was being clouded by the darkness that was slowly incasing his vision. Than there was no more light, only darkness.

‘I guess the darkness has finally won.’

When darkness turns to light,
It ends tonight
It ends tonight.

Darkness, nothing but darkness. It was all consuming. Suffocating him, choking his mind, body and soul. How he wanted to leave this darkness. He wanted to see the sun brilliant light, if only for a second. He needed to see the sun, because he wasn’t sure how long he’d last without it.

The raven male was unsure where he was. It was so dark that he couldn’t even see his hand in front of his face. There was no voices, no noise, no sound. Where was he? He couldn’t feel anything either. Come to think of it he couldn’t even feel his fingers, toes or any part of his body at all. He tried touching his hand to his face but he felt nothing.

Fear was starting to tighten its grip. He wasn’t one to be afraid of silly things like spiders or the boogieman. He wasn’t afraid of what was in the dark, he was afraid of the darkness itself.

He tried to remember what happen before this darkness. What caused it? He was driving… trying to out run the darkness…when…the sun started to rise. He had almost escaped the darkness of another night, but… there was a flash of light… then a feeling of weightlessness followed by…darkness.

He had crashed. Was he dead? No… or at least not yet. Then where was he? Was he still hanging upside down in his car? He couldn’t feel anything so it was hard to tell.

It was so dark, not even the darkness of sleep was this dark. No this was the darkness that haunted him. It had won and now it was squeezing what little life he had left out of him.

Was this what it was like to die? Did it always take so long for your soul to be judged? He didn’t care where his soul was sentenced. He could be thrown into the fires of Hell, at least that way there would be some light. Right now…where he is now…was worse then Hell could ever be.

Little by little he could feel himself being lost to the darkness. Little by little he started to welcome it. If it was inevitable then just let it happen. He was tired of waiting, tired of this pain.

‘If this is the end let my existence be snuffed out quickly.’

He could feel it now the darkness was tightening it’s grip. It was swallowing him whole.

The end was so near, but then there was warmth. Just a little warmth that was slowly growing warmer. The it happened, there was light. It started to crack the cocoon of darkness around him. Slowly the light touched him. He could feel it in every fiber of his being, warming him, protecting him from the darkness.

Then he heard it. Music…no not music but a voice. A voice that seemed to flow like music and calm him. Was this an angel speaking to him? Was he finally dieing? No that wasn’t it. It didn’t feel like dieing, no it felt more like being brought back to life. He felt alive. The voice continued to call out to him.

“Stay with me… stay with me.”

He found himself calling out to the voice in return. “I will stay… I will stay.”

A/N: Well this is the new short fic I’ve been working on. It will probably be a three shot. I’m not sure if I did a very good job describing how onyx-eyed character feels. If I didn’t please let me know and I’ll try and fix it. Anyway hope this was okay. I’ll hopefully have time to write some more. I’m also in the middle of writing a Midnight’s Moon chapter.

Please rate and review
