Giving Chase; A Kiss Beneath The Shadows

~F/B~
>INDICATE FLASHBACK/END OF FLASHBACK
~/F/B~
Hooooo sorry this took so long! I haven't been in the right mindset up until like...the last....24 hours lol.

The song that I listened to while writing the flashback part of this chapter is called Silent Moon by Jia Peng Fang. Also,Deep Blue by Jia Peng Fang, when I wrote the Shika/Nagi part...lol Shika/Nagi ^^

Ohhh, don't kill me! I think I took the Shika/Nagi part a little too far, therefore might be dropping the Naru/Nagi part...don't want her to be TOO much of a greedy whoar...she's supposed to be really innocent as far as any level of intimacy goes, for the importance of the entire plot,so errrr....my smut senses keep tingling! Rawr, must resist...for now...heh

Anyway, back to the music. They are really beautiful songs and they were the only thing that allowed me to capture the feeling that I wanted to portray in a rather intimate moment between Itachi and Nagisa, and Shikamaru and Nagisa.

I hope you find it will sufficient for now, because we are still quite a distance away from any "limes",yet. Sorry~

Anyway. Enjoy~

All that I see is pure and white. I cannot see the darkness that haunts you so relentlessly, while you shower me with unconditional kindess. Why...? My clan,my life...what have I traded them for?

Why will you never show me the truth?

The slaughter...The corruption...

~F/B~

"You won't catch me,"

"I wonder about that,"

They gave chase through the silent forest, with only the silvery glow of the moon to guide them through the trees. With their eyes, they could see all that meant to obstruct their paths. Every branch that extended with the intent to snag them like the gnarled claws of a treacherous beast, and every root upturned in the dirt on the ground that meant to hinder their sprint. None of these things could go unseen or unavoided. With her sights set on the thicket ahead of her,a smile curled onto Nagisa Uchiha's lips. Her predator was tailing her closely, with an aura so cold it sent shivers through her back. But they were nearing the end,and she would have to come to a stop at some point.

'But doing that will only admit that I have lost--'

"Tch--ah!"

A hiss fell from the young Uchiha's lips as a sharp pang traveled through the delicate bones of her left ankle, and she tripped forward in mid-sprint to fall into the cold dirt on the forest floor.

"D-damn...I wasn't...paying attention..." she cursed, and turned her body around to see what had hindered her. A root still threaded into the ground wrapped around twisted ankle. Carefully, she untangled herself and brought her foot to cradle in her hands. 'It looks pretty serious,but...' she sighed, and traced her fingers over the flesh that was already beginning to bruise. 'I can't afford to...'

"Nagisa..." said a low voice.

The girl lifted her head at the sound of leaves rustling behind her,and her eyes became flooded with the light from the moon. A shadow loomed over her, making her blood run cold.

"N-no," she meant to cry,but the word came out in a dry whisper. Desperately, she crawled away on her knees, with her wounded foot dragging across the ground behind her. Her fingers bit into the cold dirt, limbs trembling violently as she forced her body to keep moving forward. Tears stung her eyes, but she ignored them even as they began to roll down her face, spilling warmly over the cold skin on her neck and chest. Dark tresses of hair threatened to obstruct her vision, but she didn't dare to stop, even for a second; not a moment,or she was as good as done for.

Her predator's shadow continued to hang over her own as she blindly made her way around in the darkness. From the corner of her eye,she could see him there keeping the same pace, as though he were simply strolling along beside her.

"Nagisa..." the voice called softly, lips descending with a warm body to purr warm, breathy words into the tunnel of her ear. The Uchiha shuddered delicately at the hot air caressing her skin, her mind, and the relentless pain she was forcing herself to endure. No longer could she keep on pushing forward; she had to stop. Had to...

Her head turned away from the shadowed face so close to hers,to suddenly smack into the remnant of a cement wall ahead of her.

This was the end. This was where she would...

"P-please...I said don't..." Nagisa stammered, palming the cold slab of concrete and pulling herself up on one foot. She pressed her back against the wall, leaning on it for support while she lifted her injured foot so as to not put any weight on it. He drew closer, taking his time with a smirk that showed white and bright, spotlighted by the moon light filtering through the leafless trees.

Nearer.

He was coming nearer like a dark, beautiful ghost as it looked as though he were floating toward her in slow, graceful strides. Her chest began to heave, her breath coming in shallow, rhythmic pants that matched the pace of his every step. He was close now...and just as well, her impending--

"N-no!"

He stood before her now, only leaving a hair's breath left between them. She could feel the heat of his body emanating and warming every exposed part of her flesh. He was too close; so hot that it almost burned. A hand extended to press a slender finger to the middle of her forehead.
One word fell from full, curling lips.

"Tag,"

His head lowered and a warm breath blew against the curve of her neck, rousing every nerve to tingle on the sensitive surface of her skin. The silken pads of fingers traced along the contour of her cheek, traveling down to her chin to gently lift it up,while a freer hand pulled up on the leg that she'd momentarily forgotten about tending to. He wrapped it around his waist and secured it gently there.

"Nagisa..." he whispered, awakening her from her daze. The lids of her blue orbs slid closed, and she lowered her head to bury her face into the man's ebony hair, breathing in his earthy, masculine scent. She knew the words that would come next, but she would allow herself to hear them as he wrapped her second leg around his middle and lifted her from the wall to carry her away,as if she weighed almost nothing.

This was defeat.

"You pushed yourself too far,Nagisa," Itachi said finally,as he shifted her more so in his arms. "How can I train you if you manage to injure yourself during a simple game of tag?"

Nagisa sighed and wrapped her arms around her sensei's neck, watching over his shoulder as the wall where she'd once been became hidden by darkness. "I...I lost..." she mumbled, free to scowl while he couldn't see. Itachi gave a soft chuckle.

"That's alright," he told her. They'd neared the place of the campsite which was set up for the night, and he set her down on the grass where his cloak laid as a blanket.

Of course,it was alright. There was rarely a time when she was ever said 'no' to. This sort of unconventional 'parenting' had fortunately not allowed Nagisa to grow into a person who expected to have her way in every moment, and it was for that reason and more that he continued to treat her so. He would admit to anyone that she was,at the barest of points,no more than a child for whom he'd offered shelter under his broken wings. He wanted things for her, that he could give no longer give anyone else.

And it had to be her...it needed to be her now,because--

...There would be no instant where she would suffer without feat,he promised himself; even if he had to unjustly hand it to her,he would...

"You will have your reward,"

The elder Uchiha settled down beside her and propped her ankle onto his lap, beginning to diagnose the severity of the injury. Nagisa tilted her head to look at the man, half suprised to hear him say this. He was doing it again...

"R-really...but I..."

"It's going to be fine," he said and began to wrap her ankle with bandages. Nagisa fell quiet and watched her sensei tend to patching her up. The glow of the fire washed over his face, lighting hues of orange and red in his coal hair and eyes. Every part of him looked so gentle and benevolent,it was hard for her to believe that he was a man that had killed at least hundreds of people from the earliest years of his life. This man, with such beautiful eyes and a smile that seemed to be only meant for her. He admitted to her that he was the cold-blooded killer his enemies would often accuse him to be,but she just did not see it.

Not her Itachi. Not her sensei.

"Nagisa?"

"Ah? Uh..." the young Uchiha shifted her blue eyes away from the man looking back at her,and sent them to gaze upon the smoldering fire near by them. She could feel him smiling at her, while he propped her foot up on the small bag sitting beside him on the ground.

"I said your ankle should be fine for now,but you won't be able to train for a few days unless we see a medic,"

"Oh,thanks. Uh..." Nagisa blinked, and turned her attention back to Itachi to find his onyx hues glinting with the light of the moon casting down from behind her. He stared at her for a moment longer than she thought he meant to,causing a small amount of heat to tinge red on her cheeks. She hoped that he would mistake the soft flush of color to be from the fire burning before them. 'Those eyes...the kindness behind them has to be real. I just can't believe that...he...'

"Uh...S-sensei...?" Nagisa struggled to sit up right, though her attempt proved to be vain in her current position.

She became still when the man's arm suddenly extended to her, reaching around to press a hand against the small of her back and holding her there not quite up,though not quite down. The weight of her body pulled her down as he lightened his hold gradually, and he lowered her gently to lay on the open cloak on the grass beneath her. She drew in a breath, and with it his familiar scent of the earth and dark spice invaded her senses, as his face came closer, the tip his nose coming to press lightly against her own. The expression in his eyes was clouded and unreadable; they stared so closely, boring into hers,as if looking inside--no,looking right through her,and shying her into close her own.

She wanted to open her mouth,to say his name but she feared that even the smallest sound would destroy or undo whatever spell she had somehow managed to put him under. Was he aware of his actions? Did he know what he was doing to her? Of course,he did. He had to know...

But...

"Itachi-!" the raven's head tilted downward, allowing his lips to brush against her own so gently that a small shiver ran through her body. He was so delicate with everything he did when it came to her,and she realized that even an intimate exchange like this would be no different. A frustrated cry fell from her mouth,as his lips strayed away from her own to leave her with a profound sense of unsatisfactory. She bit the inside of her cheek and dug her nails into the grass as she fought a ravenous urge for something she couldn't understand. Too gentle; too calm, where his movements and his touches to sedate the monster of desire taking form within her. Always like this...always a light touch and a fleeting release.

Why wouldn't he just do what he wanted?

What was he afraid of?

Nagisa's released the blades of cold grass held tight between her fingers,as Itachi's lips traced over the side of her cheek ,coming to rest upon her temple right. With her eyes still closed, she focused on the places where they left small tingles, until finally they stopped at the middle of her forehead. Her eyes flew open when she realized this had been their destination all along.

"W-wait..."

The man's lips curled as he left his student with a soft kiss and quickly stood before she could reach out to pull him back to her, harming herself in the process.

The soft hush of a 'goodnight' and the warm glow of the fire became sufficient enough to lull Nagisa into a dreamy slumber. Turning over to face the flames, all uneasiness dissolved with the release of a breath she'd been unware of holding for so long.

Itachi sat at a distance away from the fire and watched the young Uchiha drift off to sleep.

"I'm sorry," he whispered quietly, folding his hands into his lap,and bending his head to the ground. "I'm still not sure if I can allow myself to lose a battle like that,"

Nagisa leaned against the trunk of a large tree within the forest that surrounded the expansive training field. Just for a moment, she'd allowed herself to dwell on her memories...just one memory was enough to distract her,and it was in that instant...

"You're wide open,"

A small gasp fell from the Uchiha's lips and she leaned away from her place of hiding and turned around. Several snake-like shadows rose around either side of the great oak tree, ready to strike her though only a moment too late.

"Damn it," Shikamaru cursed, and allowed the jutsu to release. Nagisa smirked and crossed her arms over herself.

"Now,that was quite a dirty trick,"

"Nothing about the prohibition of jutsu was mentioned in your rules," the shadow manipulator replied with an equally smug look. "In fact, you didn't metion any rules,at all,"

The Uchiha sighed shortly and adjusted her jacket more so around her shoulders. "Yeah,I guess you're right. I supposed we can play just as dirty as we want. Although, with that sneaky jutsu of yours,I'd say you have the upper hand here,"

"Heh," Shikamaru took a step forward, and threaded his fingers together.
"I've had the upper hand from the beginning..."

Sasuke Uchiha treaded the streets of Konoha under the blue afternoon sky. His thoughts were clouded with a festering anger. It was only the girl's second day in the village, and she was already pulling a disappearing act. She was clever to have escaped him, when he was sure he had been keeping such a close eye on her,he would give her that much credit. He would also give her hell for having him leave to drag her back to her own party. Not that he could blame her, though. He wasn't really one for social gatherings, himself. However, the fact that she had just up and left still remained.

And it angered him.

Sasuke could not find the true source of that anger, though. What was it,really? What had provoked him to get up and leave,to where he was practically stomping down a busy village street with a look so fierce it could kill over any one person within a five mile radius? It was just a woman, for fuck's sake. It wasn't like at least twenty of them didn't attempt to jump on his dick on several occasions per day,and yeah; he was complaining.

Maybe it was because of exactly who she was, that made him feel suddenly possessive. Like she was here for all to see,but she was only meant for--

"Damn that idiot girl..." he grumbled, crossing his arms over himself and scowling ahead of him. "What am I even thinking..."

"Excuse me,sir!" a voice interrupted Sasuke's outward thoughts, followed by the startling collision of one very heavy body and another. One minute Sasuke was wheeling around to shake an angry fist and spout off a few less than unfriendly words, and the next he found himself knocked onto his ass in the middle of the street with a bump the size of a grapefruit on his head. He sat there for a minute on the hot pavement, fists trembling with anger until he realized that the moment to throw a bitch fit had already come and gone.

The Uchiha let out a frustrated huff and stumbled to his feet. Two familiar chakra signatures could be felt from the distance that stood between him and the large training field ahead. 'So that's where you are...' he growled as he dusted himself off. His dark brows knit at the the sound of faint feminine laughter, and soon the Uchiha was stomping off in the direction from where it'd come. "Idiot girl..." he grumbled.

'I'll drag you back for making me come all this way after you...'

"What are you grinning at?" Nagisa's eyes narrowed at the sight of her opponent leering at her. The lazy nin's finger's entangled into a handseal that she had never seen before. He was definitely up to something...but what?

"The one thing I do when I engage my opponent is begin to analyze them from the start of the battle. The same applies to our little game here," Shikamaru explained while widening his stance. He drew his feet apart further, causing the shadow between them to stretch...

'The shadow!' Nagisa gasped. "Oh,no!"

"Oh,yes," Shikamaru fixed her with a triumphant smirk. "It was foolish of you to loiter around here the moment you felt exposed. In truth, the training field would have been your safest bet, with some distance between us. But the shadows are everywhere here..."

"S-so...th-that means...You could have..."

"That's right. Could have had you at any time the moment you stepped in here. I thought I'd let you run around for a bit, though. What kind of feat would it have been if I'd won so easily? It wasn't much of a game, really, huh?" He sighed and scratched the back of his dark hair. "So,uh. Listen. I guess it's useless to come up with some sort of reward..."

Nagisa watched as the shadows retreated and slipped back beneath their corresponding objects. She looked up at him, fixing him with a sharp blue gaze. "So then...what are you saying?"

"I'm saying that winning this game never meant anything important to me. I guess as long as you had your fun, that was really all that mattered,am I right?" a sigh fell from his lips, and he lifted his head to stare up at the afternoon sky. "Heh...at least I got to enjoy the day outdoors, rather than..."

"W-what? So you're just...forfeiting?" the fact that she had not won fair and square irked the female Uchiha, and she crossed her arms, taking on her signature pout. Shikamaru gave a lopsided smirk and brought his arms to rest behind his head as he took a step forward. She didn't move at the start of his approach, but instead eyed him suspicously.
"W-wait...are you...?"

The lazy nin dropped his arms from behind his head and brought his hands to rest lightly on the Uchiha's shoulders. Gone, was the half-certain smirk on his lips, replaced with a countenance completely unreadable, telling her nothing. She stared back at him with a questionable look that reflected in his sharp brown eyes, but beyond that she could not find anything that gave her any sutble hints that could regaurd his next course of action.

Something fluttered within Nagisa's stomach as the dark haired jounin pressed his body gently against hers, guiding her backward a few steps until her back met the tree behind her. He kept his eyes on her, calm but sharp and slightly wandering as if his ministrations were something he was only giving half of his attention to. His grip on her shoulders loosened once they came to a web of branch-like shadows that casting over them, leaving random patches of sunlight to reflect on smaller areas that seemed to make whatever they touched glow.

"Well, you won..." Shikamaru's tone became low and soft, and Nagisa strained her ears through the silence of the forest to hear it. "So I guess it's time for your reward...huh?"

The lazy nin offered a slight smirk. A lock of his dark, ponytailed hair swept the branches hanging above them as he tilted his head, all traces of sunlight abandoning his brown eyes. Nagisa's mouth fell open as his upper body leaned in,an arm extending past her to place a hand on the base of the tree behind her. Unconsciously, her hands found his shoulders, but he leaned into her more before they could settle and her arms slid over instead. The new position left her trapped beneath him,but in no way did she find it uncomforting. He gave a soft chuckle and shrugged his shoulders a bit so her arms fell down to either side of his neck, where she wrapped them around and pulled him even closer.

"Close your eyes," he instructed, his voice coming out in a soft hum as he leaned in next to her ear. Her pulse quickened at his ministrations, and she knew he could feel the thumping of her heart within her chest. "Relax," coaxed the voice of the familiar stranger in front of her. She was trying so hard not to allow her motions seem too mechanical, nor clumsy. Despite the little facade she'd put on before the start of their game,he had to have known by now that she was completely unfamiliar with this sort of thing. Surely, now he would...

A soft laugh fell from Shikamaru's lips and he brought his extended arm to wrap around the shoulders of the Uchiha pinned in front of him. "You're worrying too much. No one's a pro here, okay?"

Nagisa nodded once, eyes still closed as she felt the rise and fall of his chest against hers. A shadow fell over her closed lids, and the she held her breath until she felt the soft press of his lips against hers. He captured her bottom lip,and gave it a gentle graze with his teeth,to which both parted in suprise, and he stole entrance with his tongue into the warm cavern of her mouth. She welcomed it hungrily, ravishing the sweet, melting, unfamiliar sensation that she had so cruely been denied the pleasure of understanding until now. Shikamaru's arm slipped away from her shoulder and pressed her with a gentle force against the tree standing behind them, and with a newly found confidence, she felt her own hands slipping away from his neck, sliding slowly down his back and falling away to where he grabbed them both to pin on either side of the shadowed oak.

The firmer weight of his body now held against her own caused a soft moan to fall between their lips, stirring something warm and exciting from within her lower belly. The shadow jounin pulled his mouth away from hers with one last audible kiss, forcing himself to remember why the situation had called for such alacrity. Time had not stopped for them at all within the last minute or so,though it certainly felt much longer than that. Nagisa's mouth nearly twisted into her childish pout as she felt Shikamaru steal his lips away from hers, leaving her with only phantom traces on the places where his tongue had explored. She wanted more, but she understood his recoil and she knew that this was it.

The lazy nin sighed and allowed the Uchiha beneath him to readjust herself before he took her hand and helped her out from beneath the web of branches hanging above them. Neither of them said anything, which left Nagisa to reflect briefly on what she'd just experienced, until Shikamaru allowed his fingers to slip out of her own. "I should...probably go now," he hummed in his low voice, while scratching thoughtfully at the back of his hair. He turned his back on her and began to make his way out of the woods, when he paused and glanced over his shoulder, though it seemed he couldn't think of what to say.

Without another word, the cloud gazing ninja sauntered out of the forest and onto the field where he soon disappeared from the Uchiha's sight. She stared through the path which he had taken, unseeing all of the greenery before her,her sight far gone into a memory she'd just created only moments ago.

A romantic embrace.

She'd just shared her first most intimate moment with a stranger; a kiss beneath the shadows.
