I'm only Human

AN: Hey hey hey! I'm back!! I know i haven't updated in so long, I hope i didn't loose anybody!! And I'll keep this quick, enjoy the update, I should be able to pump out another before next week!!! -dance dance-

Sai landed lightly on a branch, his eyes narrowed in focus as they moved quickly through the forest. Kakashi had been silent for most of their travels, Sai knew he was worried. These were his students sentenced to prison and death. Perhaps worried was an understatement. The raven glanced at Pakkun who was racing up ahead of them; the little dog stopped abruptly his nose in the air,

“They’ve started moving faster.” He growled out. Kakashi’s eye’s widened a fraction,

“They? They’re together?” Sai watched the dog, he knew they had picked up Sasuke’s trail, but the news of another with Sasuke, traveling with the Uchiha, it could be no one else but Naruto. Pakkun scrunched up his face briefly taking a few sniffs,

“…I can’t tell…I know someone’s traveling with the Uchiha, his scent is similar to Uzukami’s...” He trailed off. Kakashi narrowed his eyes,

“I suggest we keep moving if they’ve already felt our presence.” Sai spoke, his voice low. He didn’t like the idea that Naruto was already with the Uchiha. Naruto deserved someone better, someone who wasn’t a traitor. They started moving once more, even faster than they had before.

“Something isn’t right about this.” Kakashi said, letting the worry lace his voice. The artist clenched his jaw. He already knew something wasn’t right.

“What would give off a similar scent, but not be Naruto?” he asked the older man. Kakashi’s eyebrows twitched downward in concentration.

“His chakra levels have become immense the past few years. And I know for certain he’s been practicing forbidden jutsus, jutsus that require a lot of chakra, focus and strength.” The silver haired man said softly. Though that hadn’t answered his question, Sai spoke another,

“If not Naruto, why would Sasuke travel with another? His mission was to retrieve Naruto to begin with.” He barely contained the hint of distaste.

Kakashi continued to think as they moved soundlessly and quickly through the forest,

“He wouldn’t travel with someone unless he suspected something, or knew something. Whoever he is traveling with is important.”

Sai glanced at him, “Do you believe we’re following both then?” He asked slowly measuring his words carefully. Kakashi closed his eyes and shook his head,

“Most definitely not. I can say right now we will not find Naruto in this direction, but if we can catch up with Sasuke perhaps we can help.” Sai’s eyes narrowed slightly,

“Are you disobeying the council’s orders?” He asked, the Jounin raised his eyebrows at the assumption, giving a little look towards Sai,

“You disobeyed yours. I don’t plan on killing Naruto or locking Sasuke up. Do you?”

“No.” Sai responded quickly. The silence settled between them and they moved faster knowing they were closing the gap between them and their prey.

Kiba snarled to himself, no one had spotted or felt or smelled an Akatsuki member within a ten mile radius of Konoha. He heard Akamaru whine in agreement next to him as they moved back around Konoha, their fifth time making the rounds. He would much rather be looking for Naruto. Something was going on, and he didn’t like being out of the loop. He had not expected Naruto to run off, or the fact that the council would send a team to kill him if captured, and only put the Uchiha in prison. He narrowed his eyes in anger, the council resented Naruto beyond reason. He knew why. He’s known for years. However the council always thought that keeping him contained, keeping him so tightly held to the village would placate him. Kiba let out a harsh laugh,

“Good job motherfuckers.” He muttered, “You’ve probably created your worst fear, and it’s your fucking fault.” Akamaru growled softly, his way of agreeing. They both had a close kinship with Naruto and seeing it severed in such away would be unbearable. Kiba landed lightly surveying the trees and land around them. He felt the whisper of someone’s presence behind them and turned slightly to greet the Hyuuga branch clan member.

“There hasn’t been any movement in a ten mile radius; do you want us to push it out further?” Kiba asked softly. Neji shook his head,

“Sakura’s scouting now for any signs, you’re to take your rest before tomorrow afternoon.” Neji responded, Kiba nodded to the captain of their squad and disappeared with his dog-nin. The Hyuuga watched him go, his lips tightening. He knew every one of the shinobi’s who had become close to Naruto were more then angered at the Hokage’s decision, that Naruto’s leaving was to be no more concern to them. However he also knew how important was to keep the village protected. So that Naruto and even Sasuke would have a village to come back to. He just hoped Naruto did come back. His frown deepened at the thought of losing a good friend. He activated his Byakugan taking one last sweep of the area before moving on to meet Sakura.

Sasuke glanced around the area. Their followers hadn’t gotten much closer, but they hadn’t stopped moving either. He looked to Seiko, the young man pushed forward, not showing fatigue or wear as they moved swiftly through the thinning forest. Already they were entering the Wind country. Forest turned to scrub land, scrub lands turned to desert.

“You asked how much he meant to me.” Sasuke spoke as they moved through the desert, taking care so that even the sand wouldn’t shift under their feet. Seiko face inclined towards his slightly,

“Yes I did.” He replied, his mouth was in a little frown, like he had been caught saying something he hadn’t meant to say,

“Were you expecting an answer?” The Uchiha prompted, the winds shifted around them and he gritted his teeth as it the buffeting sand hindered his vision a bit.

“Were you going to give one?” Seiko responded in like. Sasuke slid his eyes over to the young man. There was an irritation to his actions and voice and the Uchiha shook his head once, keeping his silence.

They had to slow down because of the relentless wind and sand had turned into a full-blown sandstorm and finally they had to stop, creating a makeship camp. Sasuke crouched next to Seiko under the tarp and low chakra induced barrier.

“He means more then anything else I’ve ever known.” He said softly after a long silence had spread between them. Seiko’s tilted his head towards him, the frown if anything deepening on his face.

“When we reach Suna. That’s where we will be splitting ways.” He said, his head twitched upward and Sasuke felt it too, their pursuers had not stopped and were moving closer. If they weren’t careful they would have no choice but to keep moving during the sandstorm.

“They’re after us.” Seiko murmured, Sasuke’s fingers twitched at his katana, before he looked to the young blind man,

“After me.” He corrected slowly, Seiko’s head twisted away.

“I’ve been traveling with what one would call a runaway nin, they’re after us both.” He said in response. Sasuke’s eyes narrowed, Caught you. He thought. The wind buffeted harshly against their makeshift camp and Sasuke watched the sands move around them, the improve barrier he had set up would keep the sands at bay for sometime still.

“They know I would not idly travel with someone unless I suspect something.” Sasuke said out loud, he drew a cloak around himself; the desert night could sometimes be unbearably cold.

“And, what do you Uchiha Sasuke suspect of me?” Seiko asked quietly, his face turning towards Sasuke. The Sharingan user glanced at him,

“I don’t suspect, I know. You are not who you say you are. You have ties to the one I seek, and I intend to find out what.” Replied the Uchiha calmly. He saw the mouth tighten, Seiko turned away once more.

“Ties? And what has brought you to this conclusion? I’m a simple man, I seek only a time away in Suna to meet an old friend.” Seiko said in turn, his face had settled and finally, a smile flickered across the mouth. Sasuke’s eyes narrowed into slits.

“You move like no blind man I have ever known. You move like a shinobi, you have precise control, like a shinobi. And there is the connection you have, the master or the puppet, you hide it well.” This time Sasuke’s words caused Seiko to laugh harshly.

“You’re mad. What if following me has brought you only farther from you’re goal? What then Uchiha?” Asked the auburn haired man, his face was pointed straight towards Sasuke’s challenging him,

“Then I would kill you for my trouble.” Sasuke replied through gritted teeth his fingers taking to the katana handle. Seiko shook his head,

“You know in such tight quarters I would best you in quick match,” the Akira whispered, his smile had faded and the hand twitched on his bo staff.

“And we should be more worried about those who have tracked us, do you think they are shinobi’s you know?” He asked. Sasuke eyed him, neither agreeing to his first statement nor disagreeing with it.

“There are few people who would be able to pick up my trail, but I have an idea of who it could be,” The Uchiha said settling down, his eyes watching the harsh sand winds blowing around there camp. It made him more uneasy that their pursuers would be unhindered in their travels while they were sitting ducks.

The glare Sasuke had towards the wind only deepened, his questions were left un-answered and only led to even more questions. The silence spread between them like a tense rarely used blanket, scratchy and uncomfortable. Sasuke brooded in his thoughts and finally in his crouched position he let himself fall into a half asleep. His sharingan fully active but his body took the time to recuperate. He didn’t know how long he had been in this state when he felt a hand on his shoulder and twitched slightly only to relax in the firm familiar grip. Exhaustion set on him suddenly unlike what he was used to holding off,

“Sleep.” A voice whispered in his ear and his body and mind obeyed, the sharingan fading as his eyes slipped closed.

Seiko waited, and listened as the breath evened out, the press of the Uchiha’s head in his lap shifted slightly. Finally he let out a little breath, pushing the wraps up that covered his eyes he revealed the bright cerulean depths, staring down on the Uchiha for the first time since they had started traveling together.

“You’ll know it all sooner then I bargained you to know…” He whispered, brushing the few strands of the black bangs from the face he turned his attention to the situation outside. Things had complicated rapidly, and his attachment to Naruto was fading very quickly, too quickly.

“Just a little longer..” He murmured, his eyes taking in the pale, calm features of the sleeping Uchiha he touched the pale face, tracing the strong jaw, up the cheek bone to the temple before running lightly up the forehead and brushing a few strands of inky blank hair. He would infuse this memory for Naruto.
