A/N: Written for the December 2010 drabble challenge on the lj community, kakanaru. (I think it barely manages to answer the challenge, but I’m offering it anyway.)
It’s sudden, Naruto thinks at the time. Later he’ll ponder, and understand they’ve been dancing around each other for so long without him realizing it that he’s not sure when things really changed between them. But for the moment all he knows is Kakashi’s rough breath against his face as the rain pours down around them; the blood that seeps from the cut Kakashi gained when his mask was sliced; the way his heart pounds and his ears buzz though the danger is no more, as Naruto realizes he’s seeing that reassuring smile for the first and one millionth time.
