Heat

Shikamaru was sitting in the hall of the hospital beside Naruto waiting for her appointment, she was at twelve weeks now and they were suppose to find out more about the baby. She was really nervous and he was holding her hand his thumb rubbing circles above her thumb, this always seem to calm her down. Tsunade stepped out and smiled, "Well you two come on in." Naruto looked at Shikamaru and he nudged her, "Come on, I'll be with you, troublesome woman." This of course pissed Naruto off, she stood up and turning her back on him she breezed past Tsunade and plopped down on the table. Tsunade watching this thought, 'this is going to be an interesting year... yes it is'. "Well Naruto I heard you haven't fainted since the wedding that's good but I want you to take it easy, don't be alone too much, we don't want you passed out somewhere." Naruto blushed and nodded.

Shikamaru's eyes widened he really hadn't thought about the chances of her fainting again. She could really get hurt, he sat forward and listened intently he was going to make sure he took care of her if she wouldn't, with a sigh he thought 'damn even a guy makes a troublesome woman'. "Well let's not dwell on that right now I have a list of things you should be eating, and also some 'dos and don'ts' . Now let's check this baby out."

Tsunade lifted her hand over Naruto's waist and she moved it in gentle circles, she just nodded and made 'uh-huh' noises. Naruto watched her as she took her time and then Shikamru in complete frustration gruffly demanded, "WELL....?" Naruto smiled and Tsunade chuckled, "It seems like your son is doing fine." Naruto gasped and grabbed her waist, while Shikamaru fell out of the chair he was in, "my.... son?" Tsunade then gave in to the building belly laughs as she looked at the 'stong shinobi' currently sitting on the floor. Naruto however climbed down from the table and then asked, "Shika... are you happy the baby's a boy?"

He looked at the beautiful blond and then jumped up to swing her in circles, "Naruto we're having a boy!" Tsunade who had calmed down to a smile quickly frowned and hissed, "Dumbass call her Naru in public!" Shikamaru blushed but then he kissed Naruto hard on the mouth, "Thank you baby, we're having a boy!" he cried again. She grinned and whispered, "I know... silly Shika." Tsunade spent the rest of the visit going over things to watch for and also, a schedule of regular visits to monitor the baby's growth and Naruto's condition as well. Shikamaru held Naruto in his arms and felt like he held his whole world right there, his wife and his son.

The two enjoyed the walk through town and stopped to look at kimonos for Naruto, who would begin showing soon and then tiny baby clothes, they even found little jounin outfits complete with vests, and laughed. Soon it was almost lunch time and they headed to the Barbecue Restaurant, Naruto wanted to try and start eating a little more healthy, though she missed ramen horribly. She hadn't had any since yesterday, a new record. They saw Ino, Chouji and Kiba sitting at a table and went over to say hi. "Narut... I mean Naru, how are you doing?" Ino asked. Naruto blushed, this was the first time she'd seen any of their friends since the wedding. "Alright I guess the morning sickness really sucks, but otherwise I feel pretty good." Ino nodded she had a friend who was six months pregnant and had seen her symptoms. Chouji asked Shikamaru quietly, "So how's married life, are you two doing okay?" Shikamaru nodded a short nod and replied, "Everything is great, Naru had a check-up today and the baby's doing fine too." Kiba grinned and couldn't stop the words from pouring out, "Hell if I'd known you looked this good I'd have knocked you up!" Naruto's mouth fell open and Shikamaru stood up so fast his chair fell as he reached across the table, Chouji grabbed him quickly having trouble containing the man. Ino slapped Kiba, "You dumbass, that's his wife, no matter who she is you shouldn't say that!"

Kiba still holding his cheek bowed his head, "Man, I'm sorry. But I just meant she looks beautiful, really." Shikamaru sat down and pulled Naruto closer, he knew he was being irrational, completely not his usually calm laid back self, but he just couldn't seem to stop. Any other time he would have laughed and agreed, but for some reason, he felt like the world was going to try and steal his happiness, and he knew then why. When Naruto weaned the baby 'she' would be gone, lost with no way to bring her back short of another pregnancy. He knew she was still Naruto inside but he loved his petite blond wife, her hair, the curve of her cheek, her long lashes. Shaking his head he looked at her, she was sitting there with her tiny hand on his chest, he could see the worry in her eyes. "Shika?" He rubbed her cheek and then whispered, "Sorry, I just... I don't know, it's hard...." Naruto nodded and then turned to their friends, "Sorry everybody but I think we need to go home, it's been a long day." Getting up the couple walked toward the door and saw so many people staring at them, all curious about the scuffle. Shikamaru pulled Naruto close to his side and kissed her head, "Yeah, let's go home."

He knew the time had come, he had to face facts Naruto was not going to be Naru forever... no matter what he wanted.

AN: Well I just wanted to let you know due to flow and content the story will be having tiny timeskips now, I just couldn't write every detail of a pregnancy, so there will be at least one chapter per trimester, sometimes more. I hope you follow it well, I try to hint by size and development on how much has gone by.
