'Gai Sensei ...' his students voice echoed hollowly in his head. He sighed again as he looked down to the street. He cast a sidelong glance towards the apartments enterance. He didn't see anybody. What he did see though was a few of the leaves of Kakashi's plant Mr. Ukki poking out of the open window that was just a few feet away.

Gai walked around his apartment, fixing slightly crinkled sheets on the bed, and making sure that everything was perfect.

"Knock, knock." His blood ran cold as he found himself already at the door and opening it slowly. "Kakashi." Gai said as he let the door open fully. 'I have to hurry and get rid of him. He wont understand why Lee is here to come in my room ... I hardly understand myself ...'

"Gai?" Kakashi asked as he raised his visable eyebrow. "Did I interupt something?" He leaned forward slightly, one to see Gai's responce to his doing so, and two, just to see if indeed somebody was there that would cause a situation which could be interupted.

"Of course not my rival." Gai tried to beam as he opened the door so Kakashi could see. Not wanting to drag on the ninja's curiosity any more than it had to be.

"Hmm." Kakashi sounded as he stood back into his slight slouch."But you do look flustered Gai." He studied the slightly taller man with a critical eye. This was not the Gai that he was used to dealing with. His was loud and exuberant, this one ... this one, was quiet, curt in his answers, and had yet to show a sparkeling smile. Something was definately wrong, and Kakashi wanted to get down to the bottom of it.

"I'm fine Kakashi." Gai said, not even convincing himself with his tone. 'Damnit Kakashi, go, go NOW. I'm not good at lying!!' a slight mental pause. 'Don't force me to ... to what?' His mind asked. 'He's already out in the hall ... I could invite him in, then throw him ... out? ... God this isn't working!' Gai thought as he smiled unsucsessfully at Kakashi. "Just need to take a shower." 'Why did I just say that?'

Kakashi raised an eyebrow at Gai. 'A shower eh?' "What's the matter Gai? Get stood up now your all hot and botherd?" He watched as Gai looked over his shoulder into the apartment and looked, at what Kakashi could only guess was a clock. He didn't know how right he was.
'Feels like I have.' Gai thought. It was already 8:05, Lee was suppost to have arrived at 8:00. 'Lee's never late.' Gai thought as his eyes narrowed slightly in thought as he turned back to Kakashi.

"You set your clock five minutes fast so your never late Gai." Kakashi said, as if reading his mind. He knew Gai well enough, especially after all the years that they'd known each other. He knew that five minutes would be the correct one, since ten just seemed like overkill. He knew he was right with his assumption when Gai's eyes snapped back to reality, and they held for a brief second shock and fear. 'What are you doing Gai?' Kakashi wondered. But before he could say anything the door to the stairs opened.

Lee walked passed the open door and looked right. He saw Kakashi and Gai looking at him. 'Sensei looks strained.' Lee thought as he strode forward, but stopped just short of intruding on the conversation the two might have been sharing. Lee nodded to Gai, just to quietly acknowlage the older man.

Kakashi watched with a careful eye, the interaction between the two. He looked up at Gai as he looked at him and their eyes locked. There were too many emotions to be able to discern one from another as they passed, behind Gai's eyes.

"Lee!" Gai managed to choke out. "Come in, Kakashi was just leaving." Gai moved aside to allow his student entery. Quickly he started to shut the door, but not without looking up once more, he saw the sad look in Kakashi's eye.

Lee walked around the apartment just alittle. Enough where he wasn't hovering around the door, but not too much to be intrusive. Which was very hard to do in such a small space. He looked at his Sensei and smiled. He always made Lee feel better. And he knew what he had to do to make him proud. 'I must live my dream. I must become a ninja by hard work.' a small smile. 'That is my way of the ninja.'

Gai regarded his student as he went to the small fridge and poured some orange juice with extra pulp into two tall glasses. "You can sit Lee." Gai said motioning to the couch. He watched as Lee, almost delicately sat on the soft deep forest green sofa. Gai sat in the chair just across from the couch as he gently placed the full glasses onto the leaf etched glass book tabletop.

Lee was thirsty, he had just been training right until he had opened the stairwell door on the thrid floor. He felt a little sticky and and his hair was damp with sweat. He was happy that the window was open letting in the cool evening air tickle at his sligtly wet but overly warm body. Lee looked over at Gai and really looked at him. 'He's being unusually quiet.' Lee thought not knowing the reason why, as he picked up the glass closest to him and took a deep drink. "Why did you want to see me Gai Sensei?" Lee finaly asked, needing to fill the void with sound.

'So he has asked.' Gai thought as he shifted in his chair a little. "Lee." he started. For a moment he allowed himself the luxury to just look at the younger male. His hair was damp but drying. It was making parts of it slightly puffy, destroying all the uniformness it had. A young healthy body lay under the green training suit, which right now was still trying to find it's proper pace for breathing now that it wasn't working out. Lee looked up at him. "We ... I need to talk to you."

Lee felt fear suddenly. His Sensei was being so serious. Maybe he was going to go on a dangerous mission, one that he might not come back from. And he wanted to tell him what he had to, just incase. He shifted into his most attentive sitting position, as if to silently say, 'you can tell me anything'.

Gai looked at Lee, his feelings for the young man running their course through him. His mind telling him truths about both sides of the situation. How good it could feel, about how right, it could feel. But also about how wrong it was, and how he would be punished if somebody found out. '... you mean once somebody finds out that'll act upon what they know.' His thoughts going back to Kakashi. He didn't know if he had figured it out or not, didn't know if he would go tell the fifth Hokage or not. But when his eyes met with Lee's the thoughts of doubt quieted, and any and all anxiety dissipeared from his body.

Gai took a deep breath. He knew what he was going to say, and he wouldn't do anyhthing to force Lee to stay if he decided to leave. He would just talk, and hope that Lee would hear it all. "Lee." Gai started again. "I have to tell you something." he let the silence hang in the air between them. By his tone, he knew that Lee gathered that he didn't have to say anything to acknowledge what he had just said. 'This could ruin everything.' a dark part of his mind began. 'Or it could birth something beautiful.' Gai's heart grabbed onto the latter and ran with it.

"You mean alot to me, and I don't know what I'd ever do if I lost you." Looking directly at him. "I am one of your important people, you are in turn one of mine." a smile spreading across Lee's face as Gai's words. "But you are ... more important to me than the others in my life. I want to ..." trying in a vain attempt to grab onto the words that were there in the morning but were now leaving him. "I don't have the words to express this. Please Lee, come here."

Lee's heart was pounding at Gai's strange words. Slowly and almost unsteadily he stood from the couch, and approached his teacher. As he came to a stop directly infront of his Sensei he stood. Gai hadn't even really realized untill right now, how much Lee had grown over the years. Once barely reaching his collar bone, now being practically eye level. Gai placed his left hand on Lee's shoulder, feeling the texture of the vest he wore. When Lee looked up at him questioningly, Gai's right hand cupped his face.

Slowly and gently, Gai leened into Lee and kissed him gently on the lips. At first the kiss was tentive and hardly there, but quickly it turned intense.
