Broken Glass Syndrome

Disclaimer: Naruto's not mine then I would have him and Sasuke have wild monkey sex. ^^. Eheh.Belongs to Masashi Kishimoto.

Well, I have no one betaing me and I didn't even really plan this story out. It just sorta hit me, like..if you were walking in front of an abandoned railroad track and then all of a sudden a train comes and hits you. It's like that. Ahaha, does that sound scary? It is, I wrote this out on paper and scanned it, posted it up somewhere else and had people read it. But since people liked how it turned out, I decided to just write it out so it's legible. Well enough of my explanation. ^^;; This fic is like a drabble anyway ^^. Anyway R&R or something and have fun and a lotta laughs O_o;;. Is that even possible with angst =.=?

Broken Glass Syndrome *prologue*

The sound of shuffling footsteps on tatami mats in the house. The wary creaking of the door as it opened. She looked out blankly into the empty, rain-coated clearing.

"Who's the-" Her gaze snapped down abruptly as something gripped her ankle through the door's gap. A gasp. The door slammed open. A whimper.

"Na-Naruto...oh god...Naruto-you.." Her gaze flickered from the blood soaked blonde boy to the pale boy draped on his back.

"Sakura-chan...please..take Sasu..ke..to the hospital.." Oh my god. It fucking hurt, he felt that as the rain pounded on his back, his bones would snap. He uttered a silent thank you.

"Naruto?!" Sakura's voice cracked with strain. She started to cry. As if on cue, Naruto heard something snap and numbness took over. As blackness took over.

His mind shut down.

........

Uzumaki Naruto had never felt pain at its best before so it was just a little hard to get accustomed to the feeling of over ten bones broken, over ten deep gashes in his skin.

But surely, that pain, Naruto was sure, did not even fucking compare to the pain in his heart. When his bestfriend promised him, assured him death. When his bestfriend backstabbed him. And oh god--when his bestfriend told him that he was his bestfriend-and that's why he wanted, needed to kill him.

Was it because he thought Naruto a hinderance-good ties are not needed, and cause that stupid, stupid traitor couldn't accept a good thing, a true to the heart present without suspicion arising in him? Did he need to tear that promise, that present apart before he acknowledged the fact that it didn't hold a bomb in it!?

Then again. Sasuke was Sasuke. Naruto guessed that Sasuke reckoned that if he couldn't trust Itachi, his own brother, then he couldn't trust anyone. Not anyone at all. And that fucking hurt.

But no one, Naruto, he knew, would apologize- because he knew that if Uchiha Itachi did not apologize for massacreing his own family, then Sasuke had caught up--and would not apologize for trying to kill his bestfriend.

........

He was surprised that as he opened his eyes, only dim light greeted his vision. He was apalled at the fact that he couldn't hear his team mate's usually hyperactive cheer. That loud, annoying, excited, almost cute cheer for ramen. maybe his ears, as well as his eyes were closed.

Why wasn't Naruto awake? But then it occured to him, that maybe the fool was awake but he was just too lazy to get up. No, Naruto was never lazy-in a sense. he was hyperactive lazy-he would complain, hesitate, and refuse a disagreeable task, but in the end, he would finish the job with unlimited stamina.

Why didn't he have the blonde boy with him, and why did he have a puffy eyed pink haired girl with her whole arm across his torso instead? It was holding him down, keeping him from running away. From the pain. Pain? Yes, now he felt it--shooting across his skull, his spine, his legs felt immobilized. Probably from the pain or shock.

Fuck. Sasuke uttered a quiet curse underneath his breath and he immediately fake a lax retreat as he felt the pink haired Sakura shift abruptly, a ruffling of sheets.

"Sasu-Sasuke? Are you awake?" God, he hate the way his name rolled off her tongue-like a prayer. A prayer he didn't, couldn't, wouldn't answer.

"Please be awake..please.." Was she crying? She sniffled and continued, "Naruto...he's..we think..he's in a coma state.." No, maybe his ears were open at the moment. But then later, he couldnt control his senses as they shut down at the news.

........

Sakura had watched both of her team mates recover. Naruto first, scolding him while he slept, telling him that it was wrong of him to just take off like that, and then come back battered, nearly dead. She had cried, a lot. But she had thanked him through her tears. It seemed he felt at least a bit comforted because his face wasn't contorted into an anguish filled face--the face he didn't realize he used to don while he slept among Team 7. She held his unhandicapped hand.

Sasuke was a different story-Tsunade had needed Sakura to stay at Naruto's bedside until the medical crew was done treating Sasuke. When they had finished though, Sakura began to hesitate about leaving Naruto. In the end, she concluded that Sasuke wouldn't hurt her-Naruto had beated some sense into him. She still refused to call him a traitor after three years of his absence.

At some point, Sasuke began to speak again, just a little a bit, but it seemed he was still walking on the thin line that seperated Unconcious and Concious realm. When she had told him through her tears that Naruto in a coma state, Sasuke stopped responding.

Tsunade entered the premises.

"Naruto's physical seems to be doing better than Sasuke's." A worried crease had settled between Tsunade's eyebrows and she looked a little older.

"How about mental..?" Sakura caressed Sasuke's midnight black hair between her fingers. Tsunade stayed silent behind her then responded softly.

"He seems to be feeling a lot of things-he might be traumatized..It seems that his pain doesn't even register. No signs of him being able to feel pain; it's like, he's sleeping but not waking up. Naruto's mind is in turmoil...You know what they say..Emotional scars are harder to heal.." Tsunade sighed as she heard Sakura stifle a silent cry.

"As for Sasuke, we're still wondering why he was found making his way back to Konoha. But we're guessing that made a move to turn back when he spotted Naruto. He didn't want to deal with him. When did Sasuke slip back into unconciousness?"

Sakura fiddled with her hands before finally setting them down on the bed.

"When he woke up...I told him what we thought of Naruto's condition. He just sort of...closed up." Tsunade looked thoughtful. "...Withdrawal from Naruto...?" Sakura heard Tsunade whisper before she heard the door click close.

........

"You have to wake up, Naruto. Are you still afraid of Sasuke killing you?" Kyuubi spoke.

"I wasn't...I'm not scared. It was a shock, that's all. Sasuke, he's back, you bastard, he's back." Naruto whispered softly. It's been nearly 4 years--Sasuke was sixteen now while Naruto was still fifteen, right?

The first thing he noticed about Sasuke was that he was a head taller than Naruto now. His features were sharper but his hair still maintaned the rooster tail shape though longer. The way his obsidian eyes had widened was almost comical but it was nothing next to Naruto's big blue orbs. The shock was doubled in his eyes.

All the memories Team 7, all the memories that Sasuke and naruto had ever had together, suddenly flashed before his eyes. It made Naruto ache. Why had Sasuke exhanged happiness, his friends, for power? Why did he leave?! Sasuke began to turn back after recovering from shock.

The next thing he knew, Naruto charged after Sasuke. Vicious blows and even more vicious words were yelled, all of them from Naruto, all of them coming out from Naruto's mouth, pouring over each insult so easily like they'd been piled up for so long.. It made Naruto's heart ache even more.

"You still have to wake. I don't want a vesell who wants to disappear forever. Little brat, wake up. Now."

"Fine, fine..Gosh, aren't you happy that you don't have to serve me as much? I'm not asking to be healed." Naruto grumbled.

"You serve me, Naruto." He heard the demon drawl out. He opened his eyes half mast and let the dim light hit his eyes.

........

Sasuke had sensed the Dobe even before the door clicked open. Because that stupid ass never bothered to hide his chakra, because spirit was Naruto in human form. Sasuke could feel Sakura's form shift around quickly, and she uttered and audible gasp.

"Naru-Naruto! You're well?! I...I'll get Tsunade-same!" Sakura's voice quivered with relief for her team mate before Sasuke heard her rush out of the room. He heard the door close. Sometime after he sensed Naruto going down the hallway, he realized that all his senses had been rekindled.

He could feel Naruto's warmth radiating off him like fireworks, like the sun. He refused to open his eyes all the way. He refused to open his eyes all the way. He refused to see the mop of blonde hair and sky blue eyes. He'd rather stay in the dark than see the sun. That meant he would have to fight the sun before he could see clearly. That was like asking for forgiveness from Naruto. Something soft ghosted along his chest. Hands. Naruto's hands.

"I was told to wake up after seeing Team7's good memories again. I wondered why I had to. This just meant I was alive and...does this mean that you've come back?" The hand rested on his chest, his fingers splayed out. Naruto's voice was soft and next to his ear. He didn't notice it until now but his heart was running a marathon.

"To tell you the truth, Sasuke-" Sasuke listened to Naruto say his name, and found that he like if coming out of the blonde Dobe, "I was scared to find you so close to Konoha. I wanted to know why you're back and I wanted to hit you so hard...I wanted to hurt you like you had hurt Sakura-chan and me." Naruto paused and Sasuke could feel Naruto's warmth linger above his neck like he was considering just choking Sasuke now.

"I'm sad, Sasuke. I'm still not satistfied that I've brought you back. What does it mean? If you didn't come willingly-then...then that means that you still want to kill me...right?" No. No, shut up, don't say that, Naruto. I don't want to kill you. Naruto.. Sasuke couldn't speak as Naruto's fingers traced Sasuke's lips. He had the sudden urge to lick the fingers.

If I couldn't finish you off then...Naruto's hand lingered above Sasuke's neck again. "It hurt, Sasuke. It fucking hurt when I was forced to wake up. Because I just...wished that you had..." Naruto's voice cracked and something wet hit Sasuke's cheeks. Tears. Naruto was crying.

"Stayed..." Fingers entwined with his own. Obsidian eyes opened halfwar, his sight blurred from sleep. Naruto's stoic face hovered a few inches away, his eyes closed, honest tears pouring down his face and onto Sasuke's cheeks. It was then he realized that Naruto was still partly unconcious. He was sleeptalking.

"Is it still there, Sasuke? Does it still hurt when it takes over?" Sasuke watched Naruto's lips move with each word, as if bound by a spell, felt his hand move over to Sasuke's right shoulder, where the curse seal stuck. It was like a trance. He could've simply slapped Naruto awake but he didn't. He wanted to hear him speak with painstaking honesty-the good and the bad.

All of the sudden, Naruto's voice turned playful--"Will you buy me ramen when you get better, Sasuke? I want to spar with you, and no cheating, jerk!" It was like Naruto was reverting back to age twelve all over again. While his eyes still poured tears, his lips were pulled into a big grin. It reminded Sasuke of a forced smile. Laughing through the tears-with Naruto, it was almost disturbing. A fake smile didn't fit Naruto.

The door clicked open and he immediately let fo of the hand he had held tightly. Naruto's hands dropped to his side limply and the tears continued to pour- the smile was now gone. Sasuke watched Sakura, Tsunade, and a few from the medic crew pulled a hospital bed into the room. Sakura whispered something to Tsunade, who nodded.

"Naruto, we're putting you in the same room, okay?" She put her arms around Naruto in a mother like fashion. He was placed on the mattress when he leaned over to Sakura and whispered something. Sakura's eyes widened, her gaze snapping to Sasuke. He watched Naruto through half lidded eyes. Naruto fell back into his pillows and his grey blue eyes opened to stare back at Sasuke from across the room. He smiled sadly, his hands outstretched as if reaching out to hold Sasuke's hand before they fell limply to his side again-the smile fading away as he closed his eyes.

Sasuke closed his eyes as well, corners of his lips twitching into a contemplatative smirk.

"I think Naruto is delusional, Tsunade-sama..." He heard Sakura say with disdain painted in her voice.

No, Sasuke thought. Because he knew the difference between a delusional person and a person who was drunk in his troubles.
