Alright everyone, this is my first Naruto yaoi fic, so forgive me if it’s not up to snuff as some of the other great stories I read here everyday. Now, you might be wondering why I decided to do a fanfic centered around Gaara and Rock Lee. Well, to be honest, it’s something different. Usually I see SasuNaru, or SasuSaku, and even Uchihacest whenever I check here. Sadly, there are not many fics out there that feature Lee, who is one of my top favorite characters, and I happen to think that GaaraLee is a cute couple, once you get passed the “I’m pissed off, so I’m gonna make you a gimp, hahaha I’m such an evil bastard,” side of Gaara.
As of now, the story will be told strictly from Gaara’s POV. If you guys would like a chapter in Lee’s POV, let me know and I’ll try to work that in.
OK, as for the timeline, this takes place after Sasuke leaves Konoha to join Orochimaru. So the big fight between Naruto and Sasuke has happened, the Sand Sibs coming to the rescue has happened, and Naruto has left with Jiraiya for training (for those who don’t keep up with the manga or anime, shame on you :P). So this is around the time when Gaara is starting to come around as a nice fellow (he saved Lee after all). Got it? Good.
And now to the warnings: THIS IS A YAOI FANFIC, as in male male love and sex (mostly sex, cause why else would we be at AFF?). If you do not like yaoi, let alone GaaraLee yaoi, then click the back button and go read something else to your liking. Simple as that. I appreciate criticism (seeing as how this is my first story, I know mistakes will run amuck), but flaming because you hate yaoi or the couple is a waste of my reading time and your typing time. Plus I’ll just laugh at how you have nothing else better to do.
And now, without further adou, here’s the story!

Chapter One
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Gaara. A name that means, “A demon that loves only himself.” I’ve been called that since I was a small child. “Love yourself, and fight for yourself.” I was told that years ago as well. I was never popular with the other children, and back then I couldn’t understand why they would run away from me, screaming and crying. Even my own family feared me. My father tried to kill me, and my siblings always kept their distance.
It is a lonely life, but I learned to live with it. And before I knew it, I began following the directions my uncle told me. “Love yourself, and fight for yourself.” I often wondered what was the point of living if I am not wanted, but then I would remind myself that I was brought into this world for a reason—a weapon. I may have been raised as a killing machine, but none of them had the right to command me.
I would kill just to feel alive. To feel someone breathe their last breath at my hands made me feel like I was God. I brought so many people to death, and not one of them succeeded in returning the favor. My father continued to send out assassins to stop the bloodshed, and each one failed. He even tried sending out my own brother and sister once, but they failed as well—only because they stayed cooped up in their rooms the night of the planned attack. They defied our own father’s orders, though I still don’t know if it was out of fear of me or they felt they were brave enough to challenge the Kazekage.
Regardless, it was a lonely but interesting life. I killed when they asked; I killed when I felt like it. No one in this world could match my power. That was how I was acknowledged by the people of my village, and in a strange way, it was very relaxing--perfect.
Until that Naruto brat came into the picture. He fought me claiming that he was protecting people that meant the world to him. I don’t know how he did it, but by the time our battle was over, he was on his feet while I lay crippled on the ground. I thought that was the end. Failures were never tolerated in this world, and sure enough, I was frowned down upon—well, more so than usual.
After that, I wasn’t sent on anymore missions, which resulted in some time to think. Long story short, I began to question my life. Surprise, surprise, I still had a conscience—or maybe it finally surfaced. Either way, I began to ponder if it was better to put all my untamed rage into protecting my home rather than destroying it.
And fortune smiled upon me. We were received an order from the new Hokage to assist the village. That Uchiha Sasuke left and a team was on the search for him. We were to find them and provide support before he crossed the border. We eventually decided to go our separate ways to cover more territory, and we each ran into an opponent. The Uchiha escaped, but we succeeded in eliminating the shinobi protecting him. We walked home proud.
But people can be so damned selfish. They would still recoil in fear, despite my efforts to help them. What is wrong with them?! I try to please them, and they continue to push me away!
One night, I overheard several of the village’s council members. They were speaking of me and my siblings. Apparently, they thought highly of Temari and Kankurou, wishing they will someday attain the Jounin rank. In all honesty, they would be good at it.
But then they spoke of me with venomous disgust. They were saying that I was still unstable, and they had the gall to say that the village would be safer if I were to disappear. I vowed to please this village, and if my disappearance will please them…
So here I am—in Konoha. At least this village appreciates my efforts. Here I will start anew and try to live a normal life just as these people do. Granted, not every person lives in an alley, but it’s the best I could do. The shadows are my home now. If someone saw me walking out in broad daylight, they would wonder why I was here if there was no threat. And who knows what would happen. Worst case scenario, they would send me back to that purgatory, and I would go insane—again.
But it’s not so bad here. Hide in the alley during the day; come out at night like some freak animal. Hell, I am a monster after all. Works out nicely. As a matter of fact, the streets have finally cleared and it was dark enough to emerge. The only ones out now would be people who were too drunk to clearly see people.
The moonlight illuminates the streets enough that I know where to walk. I figured a long walk would keep me occupied for the night. And once dawn breaks, it’ll be back to my hole of an alley without a trace. I step out quietly, quickly glancing around me before I set off on my twilight saunter.
“Gaara?” Oh shit. I’ve been spotted. This is my luck. Just when things are going great, reality comes and bites you square in the ass. I must have bad karma.
Well, it sounds that there’s only one person. Perhaps I can reason with him…let the sand do the talking. So I brought my foot back to spin around to face the one who spotted me. My pale eyes stare up into black ones.
OH SHIT! Of all people, it had to be that freaky guy with the big head! What was his name…? Uh…I never cared much to learn his name, but I clearly recognize his face. That face grinned at me during the Chuunin selection exam as he dashed around me trying to land blows. Granted, he took me by surprise, but I just had to wipe that annoying smirk off his face.
I crushed his left arm and leg. And I almost succeeded in killing him in the hospital, but Naruto, some other guy I saw manipulate shadows, and that damned sensei of his stopped me. This was back when I killed with no reason other than he was born.
That guy was full of surprises. In a matter of months, when I next met him, he was back on his feet as if nothing happened to him at all. And I thought I was the only inhuman one.
He looked down at me with wide eyes. “What are you doing here? Did Godaime send for you?”
Alright, just play along. He’ll go away eventually. “Just a routine inspection.”
I then saw a smile creep across his face. “That’s good to hear. For a minute, I thought we were in trouble again.” I nodded at him and then walked past him, but noticed a second shadow next to me that just won’t seem to go away.
“I don’t need an escort.”
“Sure you don’t want some company?” Clearly he wasn’t going to leave, no matter what I do. Crippling him didn’t stop him before, so why would it now? I shrugged and let him walk next to me. He was rambling on and on about random things, most of them praising his sensei. Doesn’t his vocabulary branch outside of “Gai-sensei?”
Fortunately, several hours passed before he yawned quietly. Thank the gods! “I’ve got to get some sleep. Sorry about this.” I shook my head. Just go away already, please. You’ve got me begging, dammit! And dawn will be approaching soon. I’ll need to get back to my alley soon. He then began to banter on again, and again I tuned him out…at least I tried to, but his loud voice was getting to me. “…would you like to spend the night?”
Okay. I definitely heard that. Don’t tell me he saw through the lie? Impossible. He can’t be that bright. But putting that aside, I am being offered a place to stay. This means free food, a roof over my head, comfortable heating, and best of all, a place to hide. Now let’s zoom in on the one negative—it’s at his house.
Well, what other option do I have? It would be more comfortable than that dirty alley. And I’m sure I can persuade him into keeping his mouth shut about my presence. With that, I nod at him, accepting his hospitality, upon which he smiled and led me through the city once more. We eventually approached a small apartment complex and followed him up three flights of stairs, until we reached a door. He unlocked it and opened the door, flipping the light switch as we entered his home. It was somewhat small—a small living room kitchen, and a hallway which I can only assume leads to the bathroom and his bedroom.
His loud voice broke me out of my trance. “You can stay in my room if you like. I’ll bunk out on the couch.” With that, he showed me to his room. It was…empty. There was a small bed in one corner, a drawer in another corner, and a desk in another. However, the dresser and desk were littered with photos, mostly of some girl with short pink hair. He then reached for one photo of the girl and another of him and his sensei. “If you need anything, please make yourself at home.”
Again, I nodded at him before he walked out the door. “Goodnight, Gaara!” he called down the hall. I continued to stand and stare at the empty room before walking over to his collection of photos. It was safe to assume that this pink haired girl was his girlfriend. Why else would he have so many? Then again, what do I know about love? I then caught a glimpse of a particular one. In this one, he had his arms wrapped around the girl and rested his head on her shoulders, while she appeared to have been giggling. In the corner of the photo, it read: “Lee, my love” in bright pink ink. Lee…so that’s his name. I couldn’t help but stare at this photo. They both look so happy, without a care in the world. I will never know what that’s like, to live your life as if the world around you is innocent.
I heard loud shuffling, and sure enough, curiosity got the better of me once it snapped me out of my trance. I snuck out of the room briefly and peeked around the corner of the hallway to see Lee pulling a small table near the couch, the two photos he took with him resting on it.
Lee then beamed as he stood straight and snapped his right arm in a salute pose. “Goodnight, Gai-sensei!”
…
That’s just disturbing, even for me.
Lee then grabbed the other photo and held it close. “Goodnight, Sakura-san!” he said before kissing it.
…
What the hell did I just get myself into?

Yeah, this is more of a prelude chapter, but stories gotta start somewhere, and I apologize if this chapter feels rushed. I had to get Gaara and Lee somewhere to start with. Don’t worry, I’ll try to get to the fun smut fast, since I know some people have short attention spans with smut stories. But gotta develop the plot and characters first. Anyway, please review and let me know what you think. Arigatou!
