Plot: Tema/Shika...they are my fave Naruto pairing...Basically, they get thrown in together whether they like it or not, but they definitely make the most of it!

Chapter One



*Temari POV*


While it was out of character for her to do so, she actually felt bad about the last comments she had made to Shikamaru. While he was a bit of of a slacker and had given in almost easily when his chakra ran low, he wasn’t really a crybaby.

And she did understand the fact that he felt so down about the almost total failure of his mission. Nearly losing your life and the lives of your comrades would take a lot out of a person and rouse piteous feelings.

Now she wished that she had told him that rather than have called him a crybaby. Like it would have mattered anyway, he thought she was troublesome and probably wouldn’t talk to her now if he had to. She didn’t regret much, but something made her want to take it back, but not completely...he was still lazy and all.


*Shika POV*


He thought about the blonde sand-nin again. Why did she always have to be so...so...Troublesome? Not only that, she was damn right annoying.

Why did she even bother to come to his aid, or “save him” as she put it, of all she was going to do was rag on him and get on his case all the time?

He didn’t understand the female species at all. Just when he thought he had them figured out...a blonde pig-tailed chick with an ego bigger than the over-sized fan she carries comes along.
All Sakura an Ino did was pine over Sasuke, who thought it was every bit as ridiculous as Shikamaru did.
But this blonde creature was definitely something else...he just hadn’t decided whether that was a good or bad yet.


*Temari POV*


“Oh well, no time to feel regretful now...too much to do...” Temari said to herself, and added silently

She left the thought unfinished. Shook her head to clear it, just in time as Gaara appeared in the door way.

He cleared his throat and startled her, which was actually hard to do, but seeing as this was Gaara...

“Kuso! Gaara, stop sneaking!” Temari scolded him firmly, but not angrily. He grinned. A rare thing seen if not in the Sand Sibling Household.

“I wasn’t sneaking. I just did as I normally do.” He half assedly defended. She shook her head. “Yep, totally sneaking. Atleast try to make some noise next time.” She countered.

He rolled his eyes and motioned for her to follow him. Rolling her eyes in response, grabbed her fan, and reluctantly followed him. Always something going on now that he was the Kazekage.

“The fan was unnecessary.” Gaara said without even turning around. She clutched it tighter.
“Yea, but it makes me feel better,” she said grinning, “Kinda like your teddy bear.” She added dangerously.

He looked back at her with narrowed eyes, yet a slight curve disturbed his severe mouth, so she didn’t take his look seriously, at least not too seriously.

She followed her Kazekage and younger brother into a room where the oldest of the Sand Siblings was relaxing in a chair, his boots resting on the edge of the table. Had their mother been here she would have slapped his feet down, and the thought made Temari smile. But it faded quickly away.

“So why are we gathering?” Kankurou asked as he wiggled his fingers causing a tiny puppet on the table to dance and make obscene gestures. Temari held back a giggle as the tiny doll shook its little wooden behind at Gaara.

Gaara wiggled his fingers and sand circled around the little doll and into its joints to stiffen its movements and then stop them altogether.

Kankurou pouted and dropped his hands into his lap. Gaara removed the sand and the tiny doll dropped to the table. Temari picked it up and handed it back to Kankurou. He looked to Gaara as she sat on the edge of the table.

“The Leaf’s Hokage talked about us making a stronger pact between our villages. Even though we are allies, our people still criticize the Leaf, and the Leaf still reject us. We want to end this. So she is sending several villagers here with one of the Leaf-nin to accompany them, to use as their ambassador, and we are going to do the same.” Gaara stated.

“Sort of like integrating our villages?” Temari asked. Gaara nodded. “Hopefully this will encourage the cooperation of our people without being given direct orders.”

Kankurou laughed. “Well I wont be the one who takes our villagers to somewhere they don’t like.”

Gaara glared. “The villagers going are volunteers, but as you declined, I’ll have to ask you Temari.” Temari’s mouth dropped open. “But we have plenty-“, “And I trust you. I was going to ask you anyway. I wouldn’t entrust our people to anyone else’s care.” He said.

“Well thanks Gaara, that was nice to know.” Kankurou snorted. “Hey you declined in the first place doll-boy.” Temari playfully spat. He looked partially hurt, the shrugged and nodded at the probably wisdom of the descision.


*Shika’s POV*


‘We’re sending a group of volunteer villagers to the Sand, and one of our ranks to go with them.” Tsunade informed the group of Shinobi gathered in her office.

“Why?” Naruto blurted out. Tsunade stared at him. Sakura thumped him on the back of his head. “Shut up birdbrain!” She hissed.

Ino giggled madly behind Shikamaru until he turned to give her a small glare.

“So, as I was saying...”Tsunade interupted. “One of you will accompany the villagers to the Sand.” Everyone nodded in agreement.

“But why are we sending one of us to go with the villagers if they are volunteers? It’s supposed to be a peace agreement right? It’s like expecting something to go wrong.” Ino protested.

“It isn’t much for protection as it is for comfort, security, and communication. If anything needs to be done of said, they will act like the Ambassador.”
Tsunade informed her. Ino nodded in understanding.

“Well, then obviously someone qualified needs to go along.” Shikamaru said. Tsunade nodded. “I agree, which is why I am sending Shino.” Tsunade stated. Shikamaru’s jaw dropped open, Shino just nodded.

“You will be briefed on everything after the rest leave, Shino.” Tsunade told him. He nodded again.

“Well then, of there are any questions, ask now, if not, leave.” She stated. Shikamaru opened his mouth. “I will get to you I a minute Shikamaru.” She said without looking at him, but at Naruto in front of her.

Naruto was apparently everybit as upset about Shino going as Shikamaru was. She sat there and listened, until it got to be too much, and then she snapped.

“Because I said so Uzamaki!! Now get out of my office!” She shouted. Naruto shut up, nodded and left, but before he did, he poked his head back into her office, “but I could help him-“ ”OUT!!” She shouted. Naruto pouted and reluctantly left.

Shikamaru just stood there. “Alright Shikamaru, you can come here.” She said. He stood in front of her desk. She looked at him and gave a soft smile. Shikamaru just stared. “SoI suppose your wondering why you were not the one chosen for the mission?” She asked. He nodded somewhat hesitantly. “Well for several reasons, none of which I have to give seeing as I’m the Hokage, but I want your help in this...so I am.” She continued.

“For one you still need rest after your last mission-“ ”but its been long enough!” Shikamaru objected. Tsunade raised her hand to stop him. “While this is true, the time will help, and I’ll need you here more. You are the only one who can keep the person that the Sand is sending us in line.” She finished.

He looked at her quizzically. “Who?”
Tsunade grinned. “Temari.”
His jaw dropped. “Your kidding me right?” He asked.
Tsunade jsut kept smiling.
