All three members of the youngest special ops team were awake and waiting for the always late Master Kakashi. "Yo! I got lost on my way out of bed this morning..." "You stopped to buy the newest make-out manga is more like it. Now what's our mission Master Kakashi?"
" Well, Chi, your next mission is to go to the Village Hidden in the Mist. Once there you are to pick up a very dangerous package for the honorable hokage, bring it back here, and deliver it straight into the Hokage's hands. Is that clear?" "Sir, yes sir." " Good! Here is a map and the address of the place where you should pick up this package. Oh, and here are your rations." "Master Kakashi?" "Yes, Kunai?" "Will you take Minako to Kiba please? He said he would look after her for me." Kakashi nodded before dissappearing in a puff of smoke. "Feh... Why do you keep that worthless mutt?!?" "She was a gift from Master Kakashi, Lady Tsunade, and Master Guy. AND SHE IS NOT WORTHLESS!" "I'm sorry, Kunai..." Taiyo sighed and walked ahead of the others. Taiyo didn't see Naruto until after he had been knocked to the ground. " Get off of me you failure!" " WHO ARE YOU CALLING A FAILURE YOU ONE-EYED FREAK OF NATURE! I HEARD YOU KILLED YOUR LITTLE SISTER BECAUSE SHE WAS IN YOUR WAY!" Kunai and Chi flinched noticibly." Uh...Naruto..." "What?!?" "You just made a huge mistake, that's what stupid!" Sasuke smirked from his newly found vantage point. " Uzumaki Naruto, what would you like on your tombstone? If I really killed my sister then I should have no problem killing you!" Naruto moved to punch Taiyo, however, he didn't figure on how fast Taiyo could move. CRACK! "AHH! Oww!" " Care to try that again? Oh, and if you really want to know what happened to my beloved little sister, ask Rock Lee. That failure was there on that day." Team 7 watched the Special Ops team leave before rushing over to where Rock was training. "Sakura! Naruto! Sasuke! What are you doing here, and what happened to Naruto's hand?" "Taiyo." "Naruto brought up his little sister." "Naruto, Taiyo's little sister was killed by a member of the main branch of the Hyuuga clan. She ran into this member's child. Taiyo tried to save her, however when he went to attack the man, he...he used his little sister as a sheild. Taiyo and Neji share the same loathing of the main branch of the Hyuuga clan. I made the same mistake once, however Kunai stopped him from attacking me." "What happened to his eye?" "Sakura...I don't know..." "His branch is well-known for the optical art known as Osuregan, the fear eye. It can search your mind for your biggest fears and make them a reality in your own eyes. It's really not as well-known as the sharigan and the byakugan, however, it can become more deadly. It depends on the fear, and his opinion of the person." Taiyo was still brooding two hours later, much to the disapproval of his two team-mates. " Loud-mouthed pain in the neck! I did not suffer through advanced training just so I could fufill my promise to deal with the likes of him! The only member of Master Kakashi's team I can remotely stand is Uchiha Sasuke!" Kunai and Chi knew better than to say anything, not that Taiyo was paying them any attention. He never did. "Kunai, how much further until we reach our destination?" "Calculating our speed and the average number of rouge ninjas we usually encounter, providing we don't stop traveling to rest... two more hours minimum." Taiyo nodded his consent and continued walking. "Kunai, why doesn't he trust us?" "Chi, he views us as obstacles to his goal. we will never be acceptable in his eyes, so just drop it." "Taiyo?" "What is it Chi?" "We are being followed." "I know. They aren't our enemy, as of yet." Kunai took a tenative sip of water before returning the water back to his pack.
" Pass out first rations Kunai. We shall eat while traveling." Kunai passed out rations as he was told. "Taiyo?" "What is it now Kunai?" "I noticed that you don't like the whites of your hard boiled eggs and since I don't like the yolk I was wondering if maybe you wanted to trade my yolk for your whites. Do you?" Taiyo shrugged and handed his whites over to Kunai and took his yolk. "Perhaps you aren't as horrible as I've heard, Kunai." "Taiyo, I don't know what you have heard about me, but I can assure you my goals in life have nothing to do with standing in the way of your goals." "My only goal is to become as great as my brother, Cho." "Cho is your brother?" "Yes, so?" Taiyo smirked and allowed the others to walk with him." So,you two, what does teamwork mean to you?" "Teamwork is working together as one with one ideal and one goal." "Very good. Did you practice that from our textbook? Teamwork is friendship without the backstabbing and lying. What is teamwork to you, Taiyo?" "Teamwork is being a member of a set of allies who face every trail and obstacle that comes across their path." Kunai started laughing morbidly. "What?" "I just realized that we aren't truly a team. We aren't allies and we all have our own agendas! I fear we shall never be a true team as long as we hide our true selves from each other." "What do you care? Surely your family is close!?!" "I-I...my...my family..." Kunai looked at his feet to hide his tears. " No more secrets." "I don't know who my father is. My mother died giving birth to me. Sakura is my cousin, but my aunt won't tell her. My aunt despises me because my mother died giving birth to me. I live over Ramen World. Master Kakashi worked it out to where I work there to pay my rent.My aunt buys me two bags of groceries a month.""WHAT! Your aunt...." "Enough. We have arrived.""Two blocks south, 1 block west, and 3 blocks north.Let's get this over with." After following Kunai's directions, and picking up the package, the three headed back to the Village Hidden in Leaves. "Kunai, two bags of groceries a week is no where near enough food for one person and a dog. How..." "I go eat with Kiba on Saturdays and I eat with Master Kakashi and Master Iruka at breakfast time." "Speaking of Master Kakashi..." "Yo! I see you made it back unharmed!" All three rolled their eyes at the sharigan master. "Uh...Master Kakashi?" "What Kunai?" "How's Naruto's hand? Taiyo broke four of his fingers, at least..." "He's fine. He's just angry." "MOVE IT KUNAI!" Kunai did as he was told with an annoyed glare."I see you made it back. Taiyo, you are not to harm anyone else in this village! I don't care who it is or what they say!" "With all due respect my liege, that's not fair in the least! If they attack us what are we supposed to do?!?" "Kunai, you stand there and take it." Taiyo growled in annoyance before handing over the package and leaving."Hey! Kunai!" Kunai glanced up at the orange blur half-heartedly. "What's wrong? Want to talk about it?" Kunai shook his head before sitting down heavily beneath his favorite tree. " Come on! We're friends aren't we?" " Of course we are... Naruto... all of the older people in this village know who my father is and they knew my mother but..." "They won't tell you about either one of them, will they?" Kunai smiled grimly and shook his head. " Don't worry! Ask Master Kakashi! I see him at Lady Mochi's grave every time you go on a mission." Kunai blinked with surprise before playfully punching Naruto on the shoulder. " I'm sorry Taiyo hurt you Naruto... I should have..." "It's not like you could have stopped me, baka. You two want to go for some ramen? My treat." Naruto hugged Taiyo tightly before making a b-line for Ramen World. Taiyo smirked and followed the bundle of energy with Kunai in tow.
After eating, or rather watching Naruto eat, Taiyo drug Kunai off to train. " How come you didn't eat?" "Taiyo, I work there. I'm sick of the sight of ramen." Taiyo smirked before taking his stance. Kunai had first move since he was two months Taiyo's junior. "Nettouyari! Boiling Water Spears!" Taiyo dodged the first one, however he forgot how fast Kunai was at Ninjutsu. Taiyo hissed his displeasure before uncovering his eye. Kunai growled before pulling his headband over his eyes. Taiyo shivered with excitement. He had never faced an opponent who willingly fought blind. "Yo!" Kakashi blinked as he watched the two boys. He let them continue for a few more minutes before he stepped in-between them.
"Master Kakashi!" "You are interrupting important training Master Kakashi."
"I need to talk to Kunai in private for a few hours. He has some questions that deserve answers." "Chi will train with you, won't you Chi?" Chi nodded from her perch in a nearby tree. " Oh, and Naruto said to tell you he accepts your apology, and he's sorry as well."
Kunai was queitly wondering where Master Kakashi was taking him seeing as Master Kakashi had told him not to lift his headband until he told him to."Okay. You can lift your headband. Now what do you want to know about Mochi?" "What did she look like? Why does my aunt blame me for her death? Who did she love? Who..." Kakashi chuckled. "One question at a time, Kunai, one question at a time. Well, she had a pale complection, like you, beautiful rosy pink hair, the same color as Sakura's, she was as tall as Tsunade, and she had emerald green eyes that seemed to brighten the darkest of moods. Your aunt thought she should have never got involved with your father so when Mochi got pregnant with you she wanted Mochi to get rid of you because of your father. Mochi fought for you admirably. I took care of Mochi while she was pregnant with you,Kunai. We were going to get married, and raise you together. I'm the one who named you Kunai. Mochi had been bitten by a snake, and sadly she died the day after you were born." Kunai sat dumbstruck for a few minutes while he processed this information."Master Kakashi...Just who is my father?" "I can't tell you that, Kunai....I'm sorry but I promised Mochi that I would never tell you..." "Master Kakashi...why does the whole village look down on Taiyo?"Kakashi sighed. " Because of that scar on his back." "What scar?" " The circle with the symbol of the village hidden in the mist in it. It's a more permanent form of a demon seal. The Hokage tried to stop Saki from taking him to her birth village but she snuck out of the village the night he was born. He resented her for a long time because of it. His father gave his life against the demon sealed inside of him. His father's name was Sakana." "Oh, I see! He's afraid that if he gets to know us and the demon gets free that he will hurt us or that we will resent him...Oww!" "What is it?!? What's wrong?!?" "Don't worry...It's just something that appeared when I became a certified shinobi...It hurts once in a while but it always passes." "Let me see it." Kunai removed the top of his uniform so Kakashi could look at the mark. "I thought as much..." Kunai looked comical with his head tilted to the side with obvious confusion written on his face. "What?" "It's a curse mark. It looks like your father's handiwork. I don't think you would survive the sealing of this curse mark." "What kind of curse is it?""It ties you to your father. He can view your every move through your eyes with this curse mark." Kunai growled in annoyance. "Why wouldn't I survive the sealing? If I did survive it, what would happen?" "Kunai...If you did survive the sealing...you could go blind..." "So!?! I can fight just a well blind as I can with sight!" Kakashi chuckled and shook his head. "You are your mother's child through and through. Go pick up some clothes, tell your team where you'll be, and meet me at you mother's monument." Kunai nodded before running toward his apartment.
Sakura watched her mother stealthfully from her vantage point. She had noticed her mother carrying two bags of groceries so she had followed her. She saw Kunai walking up to her mother and bowing with forced respect. "Hello Auntie, dear... I trust you are well?" "Feh...Out of my way you stupid boy..." Kunai allowed his aunt to shove him out of her path."Kunai!" Kunai looked over from his now sitting position thanks to his *ahem* beloved aunt to see Sakura running toward him with a kunai drawn. "Why didn't you tell me we were family?!?""Sakura...you wouldn't have believed me if I had." Sakura stabbed and cut Kunai's chest and arms until she could no longer see from her tears. "Sakura, I'm sorry...I'm so sorry I didn't tell you...you can stab me all you like Sakura...I'm dispensable..." Sakura shook her head. "N-no your not! You are MY family regardless of what my mother says! Come on. Let's get you cleaned up." Kunai blinked before standing and following Sakura inside his apartment. "Thank you, cousin." Sakura smiled before filling a bowl with warm water and grabbing a rag. Kunai grabbed his first aid kit from his bag.
After his wounds were cleaned and dressed Kunai ran to where he had last seen Chi and Taiyo."Kunai!I beat Taiyo!" "Feh..." "Great! Master Kakashi is going to help with something tonight so I'm going to go stay with him for the evening, okay?" Taiyo arched his eyebrows sceptically. "Help with what, exactly?" "I'll tell you when I come back, I promise." Kunai apparated behind his mother's tombstone and quietly moved around to the side.
Kakashi jumped when he was awakened by a sharp wrap on top of his head. "Lazy-bones,Lazy-bones! sleeping in the sun. How do you expect to get your days work done?"
"Quietly and as quickly as possible.Where have you been, and why are you so happy?" "Sakura found out she was my cousin, and after relieving her frustrations on me, she said I was her family no matter what her mother said." Kakashi looked at the teen in front of him quizzically before making his next statement. "How did she relieve her frustrations?" "Guess,'Dad'." Kakashi smirked before tackling Kunai to the ground. "Gack!" Kakashi blinked Before looking at Kunai's face. "Wha..." "Please...." Kakashi got off of Kunai and picked him up slowly."I'm ready to guess,'son'. She used a kunai." Kunai nodded and grinned. "You can put me down now 'dad'. I am very capable of walking." Kakashi sat him down before removing his shirt and the now bloodied bandages. Kunai pouted as he was scrutinized by Kakashi. "Hmm... some of these are pretty deep and will need time to heal." " I am not allowed time to heal. That is a luxury that I can not afford! I vowed on the honor of my clan that I would turn down no missions no matter the danger, or the cost.You know that!" Kakashi shook his head in aggrivation. "You are Mochi's child. Stubborn, proud, and willing to give her life for a community of people who could care less if she lived or died." "Such is the life of a true ninja."
Kakashi shook his head mutely as he redressed the wounds. " I care for you as well Kunai. You are like the son I never had. Please be careful...I don't think I could take losing you too..." Kunai stood before following the now walking Sharigan Master through the streets of Konoha. " I have a mission tommorrow judging by Cho's eyes. A very dangerous one at that...." "Should I still try to seal away the curse mark?" Kunai shook his head sadly, but followed Kakashi anyway. " What's troubling you, Kunai?"
